GOOF OFF

benfranklyblog

My car got stolen when I was in college. They rattle canned the whole car black. I bought a few bottles of goof-off, sprayed it down, let it sit for about 25 minutes, and then drove to a car wash bay and sprayed it all off. Looked like it never happened.

FriendsWithGeese

goof off... this is literally made to remove goof THIS is what he needs LMAO

SteamedBambooShoots

I was a doubter at first when I saw the packaging, but damn... good off is actually really good. Used it to remove stubborn adhesive. I find it worked better when I sprayed it onto the towel instead of the surface when using it

ChipotleEmloye

You think I can do that? https://preview.redd.it/8yfiypz9906d1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86a5b0165194ad8c499917608bfffb9ef41bcc38

benfranklyblog

I don’t think there’s a way to make it worse so might as well try! https://preview.redd.it/fu5p5w4he06d1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bb56b42e0f36be396b4249c7594bb4af390a681 Before

Lol

Likey_Mikey

This whole time I’m sitting here laughing thinking this comment is satire, and then I see the amazon link LOL

laborvspacu

Goop off

benfranklyblog

Goof-Off: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=goof+off+spray

laborvspacu

Thank you! I had it wrong.

meezethadabber

An exterior detail could fix that. And probably cost around the same as your deductible without going through insurance and making it go up.

Athena5000

While this is more on the repair end of the spectrum, I approved it as our community might have some input on how to fix this without needing a body shop/repaint.

Full_Stall_Indicator

We try to be flexible where we can.

an_actual_lawyer

For real, though. As u/natural_trust259 wrote, the mods on this sub do a great job of balancing the purpose of the sub and posts that may not be technically on point, but are worth the discussion anyway. I'm merely a hobbyist, but this is one of my favorite subs because it is properly moderated.

Full_Stall_Indicator

Hey, that's awesome! Thanks for taking the time to share! We all appreciate knowing that our efforts are appreciated. 😁

TheOnlyCraz

They do a good job of limiting repeating questions too, and weeding out ones that won't warrant bigger discussion than just "does this product suck?"

Full_Stall_Indicator

We put **a lot** of work into that. I’m glad it’s noticed. 🎉 We see hundreds and hundreds of “will this buff out” posts a week (not to mention a dozen other common topics). No joke. We leak a few through to keep things fresh, but them vast majority of them can be answered via the wiki or search.

BBQQA

I also want to say thank you. Sometimes it is best for the community and user when stuff that isn't strictly in the subs rules is allowed. Not every mod gets that, so thank you.

Full_Stall_Indicator

🥳

Dangerous_Audience_2

I would take it to a good detailer and they can get it off no problem

No-Exchange8035

Probably just wipe off with some paint thinner/acetone.

NoGrape104

I'd go straight to xylene.

Boundish91

Acetone will ruin the clear coat.

No-Exchange8035

Maybe if you're holding it against the paint for a while. A quick wipe will be just fine. I've done alot of these claims. Insurance usually gives time to run the polisher over the area also.

Trianglehero

No it won't. Itd have to sit on the clearcoat for awhile to do any damage. A quick wipe followed by a rinse is perfectly fine.

glk3278

No it won’t.

pwned_like_im_9

Don't to that. Just compound the paint. You'll be ok, I promise. You could do it in 30 minutes even by hand.

xX7thXx

You could do it yourself for nothing and possibly achieve good results. ChrisFix on youtube has a whole video on different methods of removing spray paint from car paint.

jayfornight

of all the words to use, s/he writes goof? tell me youre canadian without telling me youre canadian.

No-Lawfulness-8870

Specifically involved in the criminal world in Canada.

Penner272

It’s Canadian jail slang for pedo. Never heard anyone use it or take offense to it unless they’ve done time

jayfornight

Well that's a plot twist.

petitepedestrian

Oh 🇨🇦

Andwen_The_Peevish

I had a 97 Mustang and used Meguiar's Ultra-Cut compound to remove some light oxidation and various defects. The paint turned out amazing afterwards and it looked about the same as yours does before the compound (minus the spray paint).

NoGrape104

Goof off.... It's acetone and xylene. You can also just buy pure xylene from a paint/hardware store. Use gloves, dampen a rag with the solvent, and lightly rub. Keep it wet, without applying pressure, and let the solvent work.

therealvulrath

Word of caution when using acetone. Use natural rubber latex gloves (obviously if you're not allergic); nitrile is **highly** soluble in acetone. It takes as little as a minute to break through depending on glove thickness. PVC is better, but the best I found were PVC coated latex. Sincerely, Some goof who used to work with 55gallon drums of acetone every day in a guitar factory ETA: The average MBTT (mean breakthrough time) of nitrile gloves is 1 minute. They will get uncomfortable and start melting to your hands long before this. Latex is better, at about 10 minutes or so. PVC/neoprene works best, but vinyl gloves aren't the most durable nor are they the most comfortable. The best compromise (in my learned opinion) is [neoprene coated latex gloves](https://www.cordovasafety.com/product/unsupported-neoprene-latex-premium-4307/). I wore these exact gloves and dunked them in acetone on the daily for 8 months and was fine. We switched to nitrile and I had multiple issues with contact dermatitis.

d14_x

I’ve removed spray paint quite easily using butter wet wax and a red pad (da). It was just like the lines on yours, but those letters look thick idk about them

Alswiggity

Write "TROOP" on the other side in the same paint and you're good.

FeistyAd8869

Bro clay bar should get it off just clay it and then polish and wax I’ve seen this before I’ve taken spray off with claybar and a pressure washer. Pressure washer got most of it off…. Might be different in this situation but it’s worth a try

D-Smitty

I see a lot of recommendations for solvent. This should be fine on the paint and glass. Be careful with the plastics and rubbers though.

greyfixer

This happened to me once and I took it off with carb cleaner. I don't know if that's the best option but it's what I used and it worked. Super quick and easy.

ajw_sp

Did you get some new boots or something?

airoctave

This is just clever viral marketing for Goof Off right?

Getbackinyourhole

DA polisher and butter wet wax -chemical guys

octobertwins

Lighter fluid also takes it right off.

No_East_5024

Chemical guys has a polish that will take that right off.

N0085K1LL5

A graffiti style paint job would look nice, I like how the words run down like that.

Alarmed_Interview_84

Surprised the didn’t write poopy head wtf lol

GadgetMan333

Somewhere in your neighborhood there's a giant dick wearing sneakers walking around without adult supervision

The_truth_hammock

Acetone. Use it. Get a litre off Amazon. Microfibre. Do not let it stir for ages. Dab it on. Count to ten. Wipe it off. See what you remove then get a clay bar and lots of water with a touch of soap and warm water. The only step then depending how good you want it is a two stage polish. If not a the paint isn’t perfect will be fine. Take your time and don’t let any chemical sit too long or dry.

roundabout432

Just go buy a gallon of gas. Not as hot as acetone and it will take it off just as easily.

GringoPapi305

Try 3M adhesive cleaner

Open_Concept_2079

Laquer thinner will take that right off

bluedaddy664

Goof off or acetone.

thunderslugging

Wait. Does it say goof? Lol

ClearProposal9524

Carnuba wax will get that out. Very easy to do and nit costly and your paint will be fine.

joeymonreddit

$20-30 fix: Spray paint comes off with carnauba wax and elbow grease (Costco microfibers are great for stuff like this). I did this last summer for a friend who had a black spray paint can explode next to their new white SUV.

sufficiently7777

Very easy to remove. MEK

Sly-Jeeper

Definitely the riddler did this

Informal-Ad-3867

Any ideas why your a goof?

Proof_Philosophy7739

Is that a bright atlantic blue SN95????

MrNoMotion

Have you tried acetone?

abscissa081

Paint thinner. Easy work.

Artistic_Average_151

Thinner will take it off then maybe a quick buff

AnusTickler4life

Anytime I see something like this I think “who did you piss off, or what terrible things have you done to receive such karma.” Because I don’t know a single person who’s had this happen . Sorry bro.

VenomRek

Looks like u pissed someone off n they followed u home or sumn

wolfpack_718

Clay bar or 2000 grit wet/dry followed by polishing compound if it has grabbed the paint underneath.
