If it works, it works. I found if you can burst him down in round 1 the rest is an easy cleanup. Just getting the damage to blow him up can come from barrelmancy or bonk

My favourite way of dealing with the MFer is the same one another comment suggests. When you're supposed to be fighting the Dark Justiciars whilst he hides in his room, cast Knock on/lockpick on the door. MFer and his entourage will charge out of the room to fight the Dark Justiciars. This is when you and your party move INTO his room. From then on, only kill anybody coming into that room and let them deal with eachother. For bonus XP, once you're pretty safely inside, fire a single arrow at one of MFer's dumb undead, turning them hostile... So you get XP every time they kill a Dark Justiciar AND every time a Dark Justiciar kills one of them.
MFer and his allies are too dumb to target the portals, so a LOT of Dark Justiciars will spawn. Meaning a lot of XP for you. It's a pretty even fight, so mopping up the survivors from either side after they're done or nearly done should be easy.
Only problem with this strategy is that you'll be sitting at your computer skipping turns occasionally for about half an hour. Good time to watch something on another screen, or be on a phone call with your mom or something, whilst keeping half an eye on it.
Best way is to open the door while all the Justiciars are spawning and they'll all kill each other. Eventually Balthazar dies and you'll be left with against like 5 or 6 goobers.
Nice, I personally flooded the entire room with the water pump in the nearby kitchen. Just spam it like crazy and u wind up flooding everywhere. It even went down the hallway to the gauntlet of Shar. Then u pick either ice or lightning and it spreads to ALL of it. Just stand on something and keep firing ice arrows or lightning, it was hilarious to me.
I usually use it against >!Viconia!<, using every barrel and explosive item I can find to set off the power of thr sun in the room. It's a hilarious strat for sure. There is no overkill, only enough barrels or not enough barrels.
You can also sneak around and lockpick the door before fighting the shadow dark justiciers. Then he will be put in combat with them. Pop an invis potion or hide in the room he is in and watch the show.
I put barrels together and closer to Balthazar and his "stepbrother" and alchemist fire atop hehe
Sent invisible Astarion to fire em and skiddadled , then sneaked back with whole party Astarion first to check whos alive and ambush em
If "stepbrother" is alive down skeletons first cause they cure him

yeah the barrels ended up killing him instantly but 100% overkill

The last time I did this Balthazaar actually won. Just barely. But Shar vs Balthazaar is hilarious, 10/10 would recommend.

Not enough grease or fire wine barrels to really make it go boom. But he’s definitely gonna be dead.
