I am sure that even now very few people 'love' the Banglebutt 7 series, and the only good thing about that weird 3 series coupe is that it gave birth to the 1 series.
The banglebutt is even the good angle in my opinion. The front with its bags under its eyes is what really makes it hard to look at. The facelift made it a lot better. The 3 series coupe? I totally agree with you, the 1 series, especially with its 1 M coupé iteration is really the best thing about it
Yeah that model always looked awkward to me and time has not improved with time.
The E60 5 series on the other hand is something that I think looks pretty good these days (provided it isn't the base spec, it's one of those cars where wheels make or break the design)
Agreed. The convertible doors on the 3-door version and the side details are peak tho. Coolest hatch there is in my eyes.
Still trying to find a good non XDrive M140i with a manual..
What do you mean? The new designs are easily the worst in the car industry I didn't know there was even a person alive that could stand their new designs. If you drive a newer bmw, everybody is making fun of you.
You should talk to that guy in my hometown. He has two and they both are golden.

They literally rotate departments each quarter I heard. Like in elementary school when you’d have stations and then you’d rotate? Remember? So on the M2 for example, latest M2 redesign, it was the designers “turn” in the design phase, had it about finished, then quarter switched (bell rang in class, Bing!) and the engineers switched in, made the car great to drive sure! But they took any amount of beauty the last Gen M2 had and squashed it.
Idk if you remember, when was that 2015? When they did the 3.0L CSL Homage Concept? I and a lot of others were like oooo this is gonna come out and set the tone for the entire next generation of design, and vibe for BMWs to come. “The Ultimate Driving Machine” mantra would continue. “
*Bing!* - switch stations class!
And the next team switched to the “Joy” mantra. Tried to be Mercedes and go after the fashion crowd well… fashion crowd people are not car enthusiasts… so they lost us all with that XM, 7 series, and the odd Neue Klasse thing… Geared towards sustainability to a point, and fashion materials design rather than performance…
Long story short they have a massive identity crisis on their hands. Because despite alll that doom and gloom, they came out last year at Pebble and dropped that gorgeous new clown shoe Z4 coupe! And this new Skytop model the other month today so, SOMEONE is there doing good but, that bell keeps ringing to switch and the guy gets buried in accounting for a quarter haha.
Year 2019: Oh is that a sketch for a modern day M1? *bing! Spin the wheel of departments oooo tech support. See ya! Nope nope, the sketch stays. 9 months pass.. Introducing the i8! 😆.
He’s showcasing a bunch of past controversial designs that “grew” on the BMW community in a satirical effort to highlight the tendency of BMW fanboys to negatively overreact to design evolution and change.
You missed the pre LCI e90 rear but there was no meed when e65 was the low hanging fruit 😄
As much as we try to stay away from circlejerk topics, I feel this was well executed and original.
Unfortunately there isn't even artificial intelligence involved in some (not all but some) of the actual new designs. Gaudy has been confused with dignified. When you need to stamp the roundel 4 ft off the ground on each C-pillar of an SUV to remind everyone it's actually a BMW, or replace the kidneys on the traditional grill with buck teeth, you're no longer designing a classic car. You're just making something tacky.
I wish I could use that one gif with "joke" flying over someones head.
Sadly I can't, so take this instead

Well tbf, crossovers and SUVs are just ugly on its own. Funny how they never fucked around with the 3 series, probably cause it’s the best selling one and it’s needs to look good.
Please circlejerk about listed topics in the circlejerk topic. [Circlejerk list](https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/wiki/circlejerk-list/)
This joke went over a lot of heads. I applaud you, OP! Good one!
Proof, if it was needed, that we don't just 'hate all new designs but learn to love them in time'.
I am sure that even now very few people 'love' the Banglebutt 7 series, and the only good thing about that weird 3 series coupe is that it gave birth to the 1 series.

Most of those same people love the new m2 now.
I think we just need a nemisis. 1 at a time. I hated the m2, 3 and 4 but now I kinda like em. I've turned my hate to the 5.
I put a 2 Series Gran Tourer in there what more can I do
There was nothing more that could have been done.
Bmw e60. Jeremy Clarkson said that it was ugly when it was brand new. Imo one of the best looking BMWs.
Thought it was only me. Love the look of that car. Always have. It's aged very well also.
How dare you cherry picking specific models while ignoring all the rest and making the company look better than it is? /s
Ayy don’t talk shit about the F21!
Eh pre lci's rear kinda sucked imo lci is where its at
The front with the droopy eyes was pretty shit aswell tbh... They really fixed that design with the LCI.
Agreed. The convertible doors on the 3-door version and the side details are peak tho. Coolest hatch there is in my eyes. Still trying to find a good non XDrive M140i with a manual..
The uk never got xdrive for the m1xx so you could export one
Thanks for the tip, but I think I prefer XDrive over right hand drive!
The lci was such a dramatic improvement I wondered why they couldn't do that the first time around
The 4-cylinder is way better, though. I actually like the pre-LCI rear better, but thinking about doing a front swap, LCI is so much better, I agree!
Dude this isn’t r/carscirclejerk
SOOOUUUPPBRAAAA >> BM TRASH 🤮🤮
Renault Modus moment:
Aktualy the new supra are bmw 🤓
This post is a very good ironic take on the constant blabbering about new designs. Thank you.
To be fair, I’ve been talking shit on new designs since 2004, deservedly
You’re nothing if not consistent.
What do you mean? The new designs are easily the worst in the car industry I didn't know there was even a person alive that could stand their new designs. If you drive a newer bmw, everybody is making fun of you.
I'll have to remember that as People literally scream "wow nice car" at me.
Oh that’s great news I buy my cars specifically to have strangers make fun of me
I want that compact now
You should talk to that guy in my hometown. He has two and they both are golden. https://preview.redd.it/a75swwtfi49d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e871e01e10a2ff6cf7397203ca7eec79f6ec4e3
That’s a lot of kills, any idea how many he needs for diamond camo?
I'm afraid you'll have to buy the season pass for the diamond camo.
Unlock the season pass by purchasing the battle pass and a skin pack
Eww.. Why tho??
I wanted one like this when I was a kid, even with those "clear" tail lights. I still have a soft spot for them
They’re good fun to be honest, the e36 compact is better imo but the e46 compact particularly in sport trim unlike the pic is a pretty fun decent car.
A BMW minivan! What on earth
The 2 series Active Tourer is an…interesting vehicle
That’s what that is?! I was dying of laughter when I saw that.
HOW DARE MAKE NEW CAR. MAKE SAME CAR. NO CHANGE CAR. and then a ton of crying memes. /s
Last one is wrong
The only ones I agree with are e46 compact and the 1 series
Not the 2 series Active something either?
Active tourer? I mean, its not ugly, just not traditional BMW
It isn't a traditional BMW in the same way the XM isn't.
Honestly, the newest models with the 'regular' kidney grills, like the M8 or M5 Comp look really great
🤣🤣🤣 good one op

Welp cleaning the bathrooms this quarter.

That last one that’s purple or maroon looks really good
So far the 8 series and the 3 series are the only good looking BMWs. Open to further suggestions.
I would add the X5 and Z4 to the list, but yeah, the list of beautiful BMWs is getting thinner
Oh thank God I was just considering selling my G05... /s
I think the e9x were the most attractive cars produced
They vastly improved. Until the EV’s hit the market.
Evolution and quite good. I have a 2024 M4, and I like the front grill
Cannabis got legal in Germany you know...
The designers fell off basically
Although i know it is a bait I will still say I prefer the older models in here.
leave my precious pre- lci f21 out of this 😔
I had that exact compact as my first bmw years and years ago. I had a bmw and that was all that mattered 😆
It continued to evolve and change like any brand.
Well done OP. Well done.
This is perfect
I like the last picture the most
They can’t all be winners heh
Are these showing good and bad designs? Cuz half the cars here are always being glazed by peeps here.
He’s showcasing a bunch of past controversial designs that “grew” on the BMW community in a satirical effort to highlight the tendency of BMW fanboys to negatively overreact to design evolution and change.
You can't say controversial when about half those cars were praised from the start. Everybody loved the 8 series and the 3 wagon iirc.
The 1 series is nice other than that I agree
what bmw is the 5th slide
2 series active tourer. M sport one.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug...
OP’s username checks out
THX OP !
I think the original 1-series looked fine.
Their old designers work at Hyundai /kia now
What’s wrong with the 8GC?
The wheels on the E65 look insane good in real life
But didnt put any of the new bad ones up lol
I get the impression the compact was intentionally ugly, so as to not outsell 3 series. Got no other explanation for those headlights.
well played, asshole
You missed the pre LCI e90 rear but there was no meed when e65 was the low hanging fruit 😄 As much as we try to stay away from circlejerk topics, I feel this was well executed and original.
Sometimes I feel like the only one here who likes both classic and modern BMW…
Sorry guys, but damn I love this 2series GranTourer. Best van out there.
So basically every few other year they release absolute garbage then do the opposite and the cycle goes on
It evolved
You’re so right! I always remember reading old forums where people called the then new E60 models ugly.
Unfortunately there isn't even artificial intelligence involved in some (not all but some) of the actual new designs. Gaudy has been confused with dignified. The 8 series is perfection
8 series is actually pretty good, imo.
Bro dissed the F93 and thought we wouldn't notice.
I don’t know what you’re on about the 8 series. That car looks so beautiful
They moved on. Unlike you. Stop spamming.
I wish I could use that one gif with "joke" flying over someones head. Sadly I can't, so take this instead https://preview.redd.it/p21qrxelv39d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70856d98eb75dde96177283a6d4df7b595a7ee47

Hot take: 3er Compact is very chinese looking
Why m8 is here ? I can understand your POV but damn mate .. not M8
Can we please NOT make posts about designs every day???
They evolved even if you are not prepared
Old designs were trash except for a few favorites.
