One is under warranty, one needed an ofhg and new rotors recently around 54k, the other at 170k didnt need anything but a new clutch recently, although it did just get a complete cooling system and subframe/diff bushing refresh just cuz I felt like it
Then you have no worries with a BMW. Had a ‘06 3 series up until 2019. Had 240k on it and all original parts. Sold to upgrade to something with more space. Bought a 2017 X5 and it now has 130k on it and never seen a light on the dash. If you keep up with proper routine maintenance, you’ll never have an issue
If you want your car after 80k get a Lexus. Most people lease German cars or trade them in for newer they do not ride them out for 10 years plus like a badge of honor.
It’s a very common misunderstanding that bimmer’s are constantly needing repairs. They need repairs/maintenance just like any other vehicle. It’s just gonna cost 2-3x the price as any other vehicle
If that worries you go with the lexus, my dad drives a 380k 4runner and even tho toyota recommends timing belt every 60k miles hes done it once at 135k 9 years ago lol
I mean if you are driving that 4 runner for Walmart every day. Sure it will last much longer. As opposed to off roading every weekend. Then it would require that 60k window of maintenance
Which engine in yours? My '12 X3 35i was perfect for the longest time, now at 130k I'm dealing with quite a few problems popping up. Hoping to push through it and get back to normal operation
How about the rest of the car though? Lol
My ‘09 35d has been great especially ever since I deleted it, now at 243k km (151k miles). I have had to deal with a few issues due to extreme cold and water intrusion though.
As someone who was born in Europe and been in America for 7 years i still dont understand why Americans will type something like " runs like new" if the car has had 150, 100 or 50k miles, you go to most poorer countries and theyre driving and maintaining 250+k mile cars that are 15 years old. Only in America i hear " my car just hit 100k miles time to sell it, will probably brake down soon."
very true, americans are typically wasteful, although a lot of that it people trying to just not deal with the problems in general, rather than keep a car going forever. i typically get new cars because i want to, you can get bored and it can be fun to have something new.
2007 e64 M6, bought it in 2016 for my 50th birthday with 29k miles on it. Currently has 44k, runs great, as long as I don't take it to the redline. It goes into limp mode and needs to have the codes cleared if I do. The convertible top is a little finicky, sometimes says it's open when it's closed. Still, I love this car.
I have 103k miles on my 2017 340i 6MT and it’s been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, including a Honda Fit. I’m shocked that it’s been so trouble free
when you want a new car, or when you find something you like. i typically try and wait 1-3 years before i start test driving again, once i do its a lost cause.
E38 740i 160k miles. Original guides. Only issue was the BC Coilovers could have been prevented but the mechanic didn’t install correctly and one failed. Installing Lowering springs and new Sachs struts next week.
110k and I’m expecting to at least triple it in my 2011 335D that I just did CBU cleaning, full deletes, and a (stock) tune on. Runs like new again, actually much better.
2011 328i. Base with no sunroof, no special wheels or power seats or heated seats. Surprised it even has power windows honestly.
107k miles and just a dream to drive still.

Just turned 17k miles on my M2c. I’ve had it for just over a year, 14k of those are mine. No mechanical issues-just the expected maintenance and warranty replacement of tail lamps. Car has been as good as I’d hoped.
105K on my 550i and running like a champ. I’ve heard the horror stories of the N63 but really happy with the N63TU. Seems much more reliable than the previous engine iteration
Driving a 2019 X3 M40i. Have 54k on it. Best Compact SUV ever made. I’m definitely going to take it to atleast 150k. On-time maintenance and also quite a bit of preventive maintenance as well.
‘98 528i 5-speed MT w/ 225k. Needs some heavy TLC on cosmetics and a new evap canister.
‘18 540i M-Sport w/ 64k. This one gives me TLC every morning to work.
F10 M5. Just hit 70k and she runs amazing. Put on a CarBahn stage 1 tune and I’ve Never had any problems aside from replacing the spark plug. Installing a cold air intake whenever the part come in.
my ‘05 X5 is at 113k with a clean bill of health (i swear, “no safety or mechanical issues” is the best phrase you can hear as a bmw owner, lol). before that, my ‘15 X1 was at 47k miles before i got into a crash and it was totaled 😵💫
200k on an engine everyone loves to hate on. 2000 740iL m62TU. Everything needs repais and maintenance. Over a million miles on all my vehicles combined, a powerstroke, a 454 big block, a volvo, and a Honda.
2016 M235i 41k miles. Bought her at 35k miles in January. Don’t have much to say other than she’s practically brand new to me and is the first car I’ve had with low miles. I’m hoping she has a long life ahead of her, I love this fun little car.
2016 335i GT with just under 54K miles.
Can't decide to keep it or sell it while the mileage is still reasonable? Meticulously maintained + I've wrapped it (Xpel wrap), rims, exhaust & a few other things.
Here's some photos; [2016 335i GT](https://photos.app.goo.gl/VNuX3uFAjK5soNmM8)
1993 318i with 231k, runs like a champ for a daily.
some of the older gen engines are bulletproof, glad yours is going strong!
Thank you! Original engine and transmission too!
M43 engine and auto?
M42B18 5-speed.
M42 is a fantastic and strong little motor!
I always called it the little engine that could. It never once gave up on me
like mine thats misfiring like a bitch but going stronk
My E63 M6 (RIP) would like a word.
Wildly different generation and thus engineering process. The bigger you go on the E63 the more painful it gets, like most E gen cars.
rest in pieces
1993 740i. Glad to see another '93 enjoyer
I sold my 330i E46, back in December, at 230k miles.
About 245k if I add them up who says bimmers werent reliable 😤
but how well do the electronics work?
Like they should
what about any major replacements/repairs?
One is under warranty, one needed an ofhg and new rotors recently around 54k, the other at 170k didnt need anything but a new clutch recently, although it did just get a complete cooling system and subframe/diff bushing refresh just cuz I felt like it
I'm deciding between a Lexus and a BMW
If you are worried about maintenance you are going to pick Lexus. People usually decide between BMW and Benz or Audi..
I'm not worried about maintenance I'm worried about having a car that I can actually drive and isn't in the shop 24/7 after reaching 80k miles
I do. 😂
Speak for yourself sir, respectfully
Thats called being worried about maintenance
there's a difference between maintenance and reliability. every car requires maintenance but not every car is reliable
Then it would require that 60k window of maintenance
but how well do the electronics work?
but what about the electronics? Work well?
Yup, the newer one is under warranty, the older ones are basic and dont have much goin on tech wise
Spread across 20 cars
06 325i 6MT Sport 307,000 miles.
Talk about asserting dominance in this thread, that’s powerful
Had a 320D 2006 with 400k miles. Well, the engine started to make weird noises then.
2014 X3, 122k and still purrs.
Just picked up an 06 x3 the other day! just under 100k miles, although i believe it has a different engine than the 2012+ (?)
Which engine in yours? My '12 X3 35i was perfect for the longest time, now at 130k I'm dealing with quite a few problems popping up. Hoping to push through it and get back to normal operation
'11 X3 had rod knock at 120k. I'm now at 130k with brand new N55 and loving it!
[удалено]
About $7k
[удалено]
That was a brand new N55. I bought a lemon with a rod knock, so we settled on a new engine at cost.

Love my G30 but my F10 is still my fave. My 2011 535i got to 186k miles before engine went bad.
Had an X5 M with 200k on it and it ran like new, bought it at 70k

2016 340i. 95,000 km, working from home I basically just drive for fun.
I have 103k miles on my 2017 340i 6MT and it’s been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, including a Honda Fit. I’m shocked that it’s been so trouble free

2003 73k
2022 X3. I cant believe I’ve put 20K miles on it since buying new last December. When should i sell? I didn’t buy any warranties past 30K
when you want a new car, or when you find something you like. i typically try and wait 1-3 years before i start test driving again, once i do its a lost cause.
Well Id like to sell before it gets into problem territory
haha, id say around 60k mileage so you get good money back out of it to reinvest.
I am waiting on a 2022 X3, planning to keep it for 140k+ miles like I did my 08 X3.
E38 740i 160k miles. Original guides. Only issue was the BC Coilovers could have been prevented but the mechanic didn’t install correctly and one failed. Installing Lowering springs and new Sachs struts next week.

have you had any major issues?
No but i’m maintaning it above standard and have 90°C termostat
90°C is equivalent to 194°F, which is 363K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)
Does the 90c thermostat have any drawbacks?
No becauce oil will have around 100°C but will not go much higher

Just embarked on this journey at 36k on an 2019 X5. Taking it across the country several times. Keeping it for many many years.
