I was going to say ice cream to the rescue.

FinnDool

Lots of things can be rescued with ice cream!

zzzap

I just made the same Krusteaz mix two weeks ago and the same thing happened! Pretty sure it sunk because it didn't finish baking, I followed the box directions for 45 minutes. I've made the Ina Garten lemon pound cake before and didn't have sinking so I checked her recipe as my sunken loaf was cooling. She suggests for 45-60 minutes at 350, and test the middle before removing. So seems like a few extra minutes in the oven is the way to go.

FinnDool

I feel badly that this also happened to you, but now I don’t feel so bad about my flop! After initially doing the toothpick test, I decided to keep it in the oven for a little longer just to be “safe”. I poked quite a number of holes, many in the middle, to ensure the toothpick came out clean everywhere, and it did, plus it looked done.

zzzap

Solidarity 🥲✊ light colored cakes can be so fickle! My dad loved the slightly underbaked part of it so much he requested another "just like it" for his birthday this year so I guess that's a success lol

FinnDool

I also prefer lighter over darker, but I also prefer not collapsed to collapsed! 😂

beachgirlDE

Me too!!

FinnDool

Sorry to hear that it happened to you, too, but that makes me feel less badly about mine. 🙂

beachgirlDE

I was making it for friends, oh well, couldn't believe it fell!! When properly baked that box mix is really good.

AccomplishedAd7992

true. i saved my marriage with ice cream

FinnDool

Wow!!! Any particular brand and flavor? 😂

AccomplishedAd7992

carvel, soft serve vanilla with heath bar topping did the trick

FinnDool

OK, I can understand it. Believe it or not, Carvel vanilla soft serve is my absolute favorite. We were going to go there today, but ended up with a change of plans. Whenever we go I get a quart of vanilla soft serve layered with chocolate crunchies “to go”, along with an extra container of chocolate crunchies. Carvel is the best!

AccomplishedAd7992

honestly that’s such a good order. i love chocolate crunchies. i’ve never considered getting more than a medium (cause in my house it’d be gone lmao) but this made me consider it deeply. now i want carvel lmao

Agent_Scully9114

It looks like this cake is eating itself

GirlThatEatsCheese

I’d eat myself if I was a cake !

alligatorprincess007

Can you blame it though

Agent_Scully9114

Classic case of "being a cake and eating it too". Smh

lazylittlelady

You could fill it with lemon curd and have a lemon party!

weedcakes

Ain’t no party like a Liz Lemon party because a Liz Lemon party is mandatory!

tumka

It isn't a lemon party without old Dick!

weedcakes

I was too scared to post that in a baking subreddit. Thank you for your service.

quickestsperm6754387

This is Reddit. There’s at least one pervert with his dick out, reading this thread.

quickestsperm6754387

Ask me how I know…

Lemonpartychairman

You rang?

FinnDool

Yes - lemon curd!!! Why didn’t I think of that?

bleu_waffl3s

Sounds good! I’ll google that for a recipe.

stolenfires

Everyone should know the ingredients for a good lemon party.

FinnDool

Ran out and got a jar of lemon curd (which is soooooo good all by itself)!

DisastrousStep998

I had a failed caked that I cut into squares and made cake cereal with. My daughter thought I was a genius.

AncientReverb

I also repurpose my banking flops. It's a weirdly fun creative thing. What do you mean by cake cereal, though? My brain isn't matching squares and cereal. I've made it into something like a bread pudding and others into a bake. If banana or pumpkin (or similar) bread deflate like this or aren't fully baked, cutting them into smaller rectangles of varying sizes, tossing them into a glass casserole type dish, adding spices and a mix of egg, milk, and syrup, and baking results in a delicious French toast stick like bake. (I'm missing something in that but cannot think of what.)

DisastrousStep998

I cubed it and dried it out a bit, then put it in a bowl and poured some milk over it. Essentially a very lazy bread pudding lol. It sounds unappealing, but it was whimsical and not terrible. The 5 year old approved.

msfranknbeans

It's genius, really.

FinnDool

I’m going to purposely make a pumpkin bread flop just so I can do this!

Ok_War8492

Lemussy

Generation_ABXY

"Well, we'll just tell your mother that... uh, we ate it all."

dllmonL79

My first thought after seeing the photo! Should American Pie it.

Ok_War8492

🍋🍋

vinniethestripeycat

I'd eat it with homemade whipped cream & fresh strawberries! 💛

pokedabadger

Omg this sounds so good.

FinnDool

Agreed!

snail_on_the_trail

You’re not supposed to pound it! Haha. I bet it’s still tasty!

jcnlb

All cake fails in my home become cake pops 🤷🏻‍♀️

DeepUser-5242

Cake pops?

jcnlb

Yes you crumble the cake up and mix with cream cheese and/or frosting and dip in white or dark chocolate. Put on a stick if you want. Yummy!

FinnDool

OK - I’m totally sold on trying this (no sticks needed)!!!

jcnlb

Cake pops/cake balls are yummy! Lemon dipped in white chocolate is fabulous! There are tons of recipes and it isn’t hard and looks high end when really it’s a cover up for a fail lol.

Remarkable-Bowl-3821

was it yummy?

FinnDool

Unfortunately it wasn’t lemmony enough (at least for me). Fortunately there have been many yummy-sounding suggestions here so I can salvage it!

Remarkable-Bowl-3821

How many lemons and how much peel did you use? Also poppy seed is great in this sort of dish. Really brings out the citrus flavor

FinnDool

This was from a boxed mix and made exactly as instructed with nothing extra added. I agree that a recipe using real lemons, lemon peel and poppy seeds would taste much better, and hopefully turn out better for the effort.

Remarkable-Bowl-3821

Haven’t tried a box mix but adding an extra lemon to it might help :)

FinnDool

Adding an extra lemon might *have* helped. Too late now!

Remarkable-Bowl-3821

Next time :)

FinnDool

🙂

MudJumpy1063

'Fail' is a bit strong. Maybe C+? Or... B-. ;)

FinnDool

Well, if we’re grading it, I’d go with F+, or maybe D- if it gets points for the minimal effort and amount of butter it took!

Dependent_Top_4425

Cake ballzz!!!

LRD4000

It’s as disappointed as you…fill it with jelly, ect to save the day.

FinnDool

I thought lemon curd was an excellent suggestion. Never enough lemon!

LRD4000

Not a fan of lemon personally. But you do you.

podsnerd

Your cake looks like it has a belly button lol I like the sound of your plan for rescuing it!

thinkreate

Fill with lemon curd and dust with powdered sugar?

FinnDool

Yes, yes, yes!!! Maybe even break it into chunks and mix it up a bit!

FinnDool

Went out and bought a jar of delicious lemon curd!!!

thinkreate

Cool, I hope you enjoy!

FinnDool

We did enjoy. Now we’re “suffering” from sugar shock!

peachy-grey

Cream cheese and blueberry jam in the middle

FinnDool

Oooooo - excellent, yummy sounding idea!!!

NoeyCannoli

What a delicious tissue box

FinnDool

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

StaticCloud

Somebody pounded your pound cake 🤜

SuspiciousCranberry6

Aww, the lemon was so sour the cake puckered.

Pippin_the_parrot

Happens to the best of us and the rest of us.

Lilly_1337

You can always turn it into cakepops.

nejnonein

Make cake pops

ThisNonsense

Oh, did you buy the black hole lemon pound cake mix? Easy mistake.

Globewanderer1001

Hahaha! I've been there too. Still yummy tho. Fill it with some lemon curd and add some whipped cream on top.

FinnDool

Yes! This would definitely “fix” it!!!

FinnDool

Just bought a jar of lemon curd!

Cuttewfish_Asparagus

You're not supposed to actually pound it

lechatsage

Well, it amuses, and I'm applauding your resourceful save. It looks a little pale and underdone, in spite of the clean toothpick test, which is usually pretty helpful. Maybe a master baker will be able to explain. (Too cool an oven, maybe?)

FinnDool

Yes, it is pale, but I baked it for the suggested time, plus a couple of extra minutes, and the toothpick did come out clean in every area (many in the center). I don’t think it’s the oven, because I’ve not had problems with anything else. Whatever went wrong will remain a mystery.

lechatsage

Well, I saw another person who said they had the exact same result from the same stuff. Sounds like a batch of Krusteaze had a little flaw in it. In any case, you did your best to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat. 😊

FinnDool

Yes, could be a bad batch, since it is strange that someone else had the same problem. I got a jar of lemon curd to help salvage the disaster.

lechatsage

Yes. Good move.

Rich-Appearance-7145

If it tastes good it's no fail, practice makes perfect

FinnDool

I agree! I’ve found that the baked goods that don’t look good usually taste the best!

MyNutsin1080p

“…we’ll just tell your mother that we ate it all.”

pumpkimm

Mhm the edges are everything though 🤭

FinnDool

Though not as super duper moist as the middle!

Adventurous-List-969

It still looks good

FinnDool

Actually, once I split it and added a generous layer of lemon curd and coconut flakes, then topped the whole think with lemon glaze and let it sit overnight, it was really quite tasty.

-SpaceThing

Lookin like it got its ass beat 🤧

lemonssi

Lemon poundcakeballs?

12345NoNamesLeft

fill the crater with lemon glaze

10lb_adventurer

Lemon Bundt Loaf! Stick a flower in it?

CreepyReputation4958

Every oven temperature differs. Maybe it’s not hot enough to raise ?

Relative_Reading_903

I immediately remembered the American pie movie.

Kat-a-strophy

I would eat the sides and see how far inside it's eadable.

NovelAncient6500

Omg, this looks very yummy!!

FinnDool

I’ve found that many times baked goods that are not “attractive” can sometimes taste the best. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case with this. I love lemon, and (in my opinion) didn’t think it had much lemon flavor. I’ve gotten many good suggestions in the comments here on how to “fix” it.

Get_off_critter

Thought it was sitting in the microwave

FinnDool

No, this is out of the oven and sitting on a platter looking very, very sad.

[deleted]

Instant karma for choosing cake-powder-mix

mookster1338

I use that mix regularly, I bet it will still taste great.

FinnDool

Did this ever happen to you? As for taste, it wasn’t lemmony enough for me. So now I have a jar of lemon curd to slather all over it!

NewCodingLine

Hole in one! ⛳

Alt_hidden

Would still eat

FinnDool

It won’t go to waste. I already got a jar of lemon curd to help rectify the problem.

IHaveNoEgrets

Just because you're going for authentic lemon flavor doesn't mean you have to include pits! 😁

nockchaa

r/dontputyour ...nvm

camrex_13

i’d fuck this shit up idc
