Sobel actually took out an MG nest in Normandy during D-Day.
EDIT:
>Immediately after landing, Sobel assembled four men and destroyed a German machine gun nest with grenades before joining the rest of the division near [Carentan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Carentan).[^(\[23\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Sobel#cite_note-23)
I bet he cut someone’s fence to get that MG!
All jokes aside anyone jumping into Normandy had guts and I almost feel bad for everyone the series made look bad lol
I was thinking on multiple fire teams. But mostly because shifty is an excellent shot. Comes from good stock. His daddy could should the wings of a fly.
I think in the show he’s mostly present during Crossroads in terms of combat. He’s kind of underrepresented in the show, unfortunately. You’re not even aware that he’s the company first sergeant after Lipton’s promotion until he resigns in the last episode.
I think some of that may have to do with how wrong Ambrose had Talbert in his book. He wrote about him as a drunken drifter; in reality, Tab had a pretty successful life and just disappeared off the grid to a farm because that’s what he wanted. That was sort of exacerbated by the fact that he only showed up at one reunion shortly before he died in the early 80s, so the other men had little information about him. His daughter issued some corrections after the book came out. And he was deceased by the time of the show. So maybe it was hard to really work him in appropriately.
My problem with that explanation is that none of what happened after the show takes place in the show. The vets may not have know what he did post war, but they knew what did in the war. If winters said he would have sent him in a mission, that should.have been reflected if youre including him in the story.
Webster called Guarnere the bravest man in the (I believe Company, but it was some compliment), so I’m taking him with me!
Speirs, we all know about and Winters as both smart and brave!
Shit, why the hell am I charging - I’ll just sit back and let them do it!
Pre or post Crazy Joe McClusky Compton? I can see advantages of either, but post would probably unnerve the Germans and you would never forget to not take any chances.

He was also the lead prosecutor in the Sirhan Sirhan trial for the assassin of Robert Kennedy, and later became a judge on the California Court of Appeal.
Shifty and McClung because they’re the best shots in Easy, as well as Compton because he can really throw grenades. With these three, I might be charging an empty machine gun nest.
Audie Murphy, Garlin Conner, Bull Randleman and my father. My pops fought in WW2, Korea and Vietnam and made it through them all. Need that kind of luck on your team.
Winters, Linton and Randleman. Possibly switch Randleman for Compton depending on our grenade stocks.
Spiers and ol' Gonorrhea can manage the stragglers/survivors.
great question here... where would John Basilone & Lt "Iceman" Colbert from Generation Kill fit into the bad asses from Band of Brothers in relation to combat?
I think Basilone goes up there to the very top, TBH.
Nixon is composed under fire, can think rationally, coldheaded, and better tactictian. You need someone to lead and Nixon is more than capable for that job.
Only real answer. Dike, Sobel, whoever Jimmy Fallon played.
THATS LT GEORGE RICE, 10TH ARMORED TO YOU

Dude was excited communicated by his wife and kids. I have a feeling he wasn't really a stand up guy.
Idk if I’m too stoned or having a stroke but idk what that means
Excommunicated * my bad
Better word would probably be disowned, excommunicated implies being kicked out of a church
So you get to look like a real hero. Or you get dead, most likely dead, but yeah, hero.
RIP my friend
Shifty, Spears and Gaurnere
I choose Shifty's dad.
Ha, I understand that reference.
why Shifty over Bull?
Pew pew
bull also go pew pew
Shifty go pew pew before anyone in the machine gun crew crew see you you
I was thinking on multiple fire teams. But mostly because shifty is an excellent shot. Comes from good stock. His daddy could should the wings of a fly.
lol fair point
Better shot is my guess.
Shifty could probably pop the crew from cover and negate needing to charge it.
I think Winters himself said if he was picking one man for a mission, he’d pick Talbert.
Interesting. Do they ever show Talbert doing much in combat?
I think in the show he’s mostly present during Crossroads in terms of combat. He’s kind of underrepresented in the show, unfortunately. wonder why Bull was the only one at the end that got the “he was one of the best soldiers I ever knew” statement
Not sure why they only did that for the show epilogue, but Winters referred to Tab as his “guardian angel”. He thought very highly of Floyd.
In his book Winters described Guarnere as a "born killer," but I'm not sure that was supposed to be a compliment.
Bull was one of the best They probably didn't reference Talbert in the same way because we had seen so little of him in the show.
wonder why Bull was the only one at the end that got the “he was one of the best soldiers I ever knew” statement
Welsh, Luz, and that's it. No idea where the third guy went.
“Where the fuck is everybody!”
I HAVE NO IDEA!!
That's like my favourite line in the show. For some reason the facial expressions and the way he says it make me laugh every time
Luz never fails to bring levity or humour to any situation
The third guy’s weekend pass wasn’t revoked.
lmao RIP
Bull, Spiers, Winters IMO
I like this one too, just feels wrong to leave out Guarnere…
Yeah, he was known as "Wild Bill" for a reason.
facts
Webster called Guarnere the bravest man in the (I believe Company, but it was some compliment), so I’m taking him with me! Speirs, we all know about and Winters as both smart and brave! Shit, why the hell am I charging - I’ll just sit back and let them do it!
Shifty on overwatch!
there we go, I like this one haha
If you don't have Shifty on overwatch you're missing out (literally).
Winters, Spiers, Shifty. It just doesn't pay to be shooting at Shifty when he has a rifle.
fair take!
Toye, Guarnere, and Compton.
We’ll soon find out
best watch your legs…
Pre or post Crazy Joe McClusky Compton? I can see advantages of either, but post would probably unnerve the Germans and you would never forget to not take any chances.
Send Sobel in first
HI HO SILVER!
>Immediately after landing, Sobel assembled four men and destroyed a German machine gun nest with grenades before joining the rest of the division near [Carentan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Carentan).[^(\[23\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Sobel#cite_note-23)
need a guy to draw the fire
Speirs, Lipton, and Wild Bill
also a solid ass squad
Spiers and Bull Randleman are locks. You can go a few different ways with the 3rd choice
totally agree, that was my way of looking at it
Welsh, Martin, Spiers.
Why Welsh & Martin?
Martin never seemed to hesitate and was always focused
Martin swallowed his tongue to volunteer to check out the farmhouse when blithe caught one in the neck
The guy with the baseball pitcher arm for throwing grenades.
Its Compton, and he was a catcher.
What was college like Buck?
Well catchers also have to make fast accurate throws.... especially to second base when people try to steal a base. So the point stands.
No argument. Just saying for clarity that Lynn "Buck" Compton was an All-American catcher at UCLA. Was teammates with Jackie Robinson.
He was also the lead prosecutor in the Sirhan Sirhan trial for the assassin of Robert Kennedy, and later became a judge on the California Court of Appeal.
Worthy accomplishments, but those litigation skills didnt help him with that fastball grenade throw
So true!
Shifty and McClung because they’re the best shots in Easy, as well as Compton because he can really throw grenades. With these three, I might be charging an empty machine gun nest.
compton, randleman, guarnere
I’m okay with this one
Vest, Lorraine, Hall
Pfft. I just call for mortar fire myself and call it a day.
Toye, Guarnere, and Tab
love seeing Toye get some love
Audie Murphy, Garlin Conner, Bull Randleman and my father. My pops fought in WW2, Korea and Vietnam and made it through them all. Need that kind of luck on your team.
Wow. You were destined to be born!
Nixon and two bottles of the Vat 69
truly unstoppable - nothing can hurt Mrs. Nixon’s baby boy!
lol probably the funniest post here, well done
Three of the Sherman’s from second armored.
Dukeman. He’ll be the only casualty.
Spires, Powers, Toye
Spiers, Bull, Compton. That is, as long as Winters is planning the whole thing.
Winters is definitely planning the whole thing ;)
Guarnere, Winters, Speirs
Speirs, Randleman and Shifty
solid 3
My thinking is Shifty and Randleman will provide cover while me and Speirs charge in, like the mad men we are.
winters, guarnere, spiers
Powers for the cover fire, Spiers to draw most of the fire, and Compton to throw the gernades.
Muck and Penkala and their mortar and Bull. Smoke the nest with mortar shells then bull and i run up with grenades
Research Earl McClung. He may have been the best combat soldier in the unit. A beast.
Spiers, Talbert, Toye.
Shifty, Spiers and Bull.
Group of killers
Speirs, Lipton, and Moose. Justice for Moose.
Winters, Linton and Randleman. Possibly switch Randleman for Compton depending on our grenade stocks. Spiers and ol' Gonorrhea can manage the stragglers/survivors.
The 3 closest Privates.
"I need three volunteers. You, you and you."
If you are charging against machine gun nest I would use mortar.
I'm taking Malarkey, Luz and maybe Grant whom I know is a bit more in the background but I kind of like him.
Spiers. Oh, you said I get a _team_? Never mind.
Eisenhower, Nimitz, and Roosevelt. That means I probably have friendlies nearby. And artillery. And battleships.
Spiers, Compton and Bull. Honorable mention from The Pacific: John Basilone
great question here... where would John Basilone & Lt "Iceman" Colbert from Generation Kill fit into the bad asses from Band of Brothers in relation to combat? I think Basilone goes up there to the very top, TBH.
Sobel... really?
Jones, the Jeep jockey, and the coffee clerk
All of em. Then you have those three guys pick three guys and you can get after it. 4 guys aren’t enough. 10 maybe.
Van klinken, Miller, Melet 👀
who?!
Lipton,Welsh,Nixon
Mr never fired a gun?
Nixon is composed under fire, can think rationally, coldheaded, and better tactictian. You need someone to lead and Nixon is more than capable for that job.
Winters, Spiers, and Shifty
solid 3
