I don't kill bandits or imprison them. I just let them go. Not worth my time :D. Lords surrender only when you have about 10k troops vs 100? Which is ridiculous, but I kinda understand it since you don't keep anything after surrendering. So that option is super useless.

WasabiLassabe

It would be nice if accepting a surrender had options. Maybe you let them keep their army if they don’t attack for a few days, possibly for more relations or to advocate for a truce between kingdoms

Warden_of_rivia

Like a total war point based diplomacy system? The direness of the AI's situation will give you a certain number of points which can be exchanged for diplo options of a set cost. For example, having the enemy outnumbered 2-1 gives you 60 points in surrender negotiation, you can spend 30 to have them stay out of the war for a one week period. Ask too much of them though and they'll reject your proposal and then just decide to fight on the field. Could also factor in several other things, like a point modifier based on how well the war is going for/against your favor, a modifier for how many wounded troops the enemy has in their party.

chronberries

This sounds perfect. Doesn’t need to be too complex, but something would be nice.

Helerek

Yeah, I hope they expand on surrender option in some way. Right now it's literally useless button.

squl98

Your life? Isn't something you keep when you surrender?

Helerek

No, because they can still execute you =D. Ofc happens rarely, but still. I think you should keep more goods and half or 3/4 of your troops depending on your relation with enemy army leader. Or they should get transported to your fief with no gear. So you need to pay X amount of gold at Y fief to retake them. Since they surrendered and are still alive. Some can just run away (based on leadership etc.). I think that would be a nice idea.

squl98

So everyone is brave and fight with massive disadvantages, no one try to weasel his way out?

Nametagg01

that is the coding result of it since in their eyes being routed with 5 guys and their inventory is more effective than surrendering and loosing everything they have.

squl98

So it is a developer's mistake, since the AI could just try to pay for safe passage.

Nametagg01

sortof its not really a mistake in the code as much as its a flaw with how the game plays in its current state where surrendering or being taken hostage is a harsh result to the point where AI will do whatever they can to avoid that outcome even if it means a suicidal charge because theres more of a chance to recover when routing than there is in reaching an agreement with a superior fighting force.

Helerek

More like, they fight for their life. As Sun Tzu said. Never fully corner an enemy as he will fight for his life like a wild beast. Which I believe is the case. Basically devs didn't code any other viable option. :(

squl98

So we are back to the point where this is a developer's mistake, and unrealistic set of options.

heewonh97

Maybe they just have some code of honor as nobles, but yeah, I wish there were surrender option and better diplomacy in general

spodoptera

Let them go? My notables need some slave

[deleted]

When there are prisoners left over after a battle and you decide to let them go, they don’t respawn anywhere on the map. Realistically, if you were to release soldiers of the enemy side with the war ongoing, they would rejoin forces in other parties. Thing is, they don’t. I don’t think you really ”let go” prisoners, rather, you’re ”discarding” them.

Helerek

Maybe executing them or leting them life (if they never again pick up arms against my forces) or something like that.

Boulder-the-Bolder

Depending on my manpower situation, I conscript them. Lol

NotSoStallionItalian

Yeah its kind of annoying that attacking a lord while outnumbering them ten to one doesn't even allow them to surrender. Like I get it, some people will die fighting. But every lord would? At least someone out there has to be a coward or extremely pragmatic.

Electronic-Salt-8427

I know I'm way late just looked this up because new update. But for real you would think at least a few lords would have common sense and not sacrifice their men when they have like 10 troops against 900 shits retartid

hitthatyeet1738

Im really glad there’s not nukes in this game because with how reluctant the AI is to accept that they aren’t gonna win, Calradia would be the location for the next fallout game. Now that I think about it a fallout mod for bannerlord would go so fucking hard.

Ralkan28

I always kill lords. I love to hire on bandits and looters. Death to the nobility! Power to the plebs!

Friskiergrunt1

*Sips espresso* ahhh France

Villezki

Do the lords traits effect their chances of surrendering? For example brave lords being less likely to surrender.

Warden_of_rivia

Interesting question, I'm not sure but I know you as a player can gain/lose traits for various actions like running from a fight vs fighting so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a trait based behavior mechanic in the AI.

Boring_Preference158

Yeah I got the generous trait because I let the nobles go so I can recruit them later. It took me alot of nobles tho. Also Idk why I have this name I never picked it.

HazirBot

its not the lords that die when they don't surrender

EducationalRice6540

I remember in warband the moral system would account for this. I never remember a lord surrendering but their troops being over matched and having suffered previous defeats at my hand would break and run almost at first contact making field battles a slaughter for an already defeated foe. I wish we had a system like that. If my party has been stacking up bodies like cord wood the enemy should crap their pants when they see my banners. Unless they have a absolute superiority it numbers or tiers of troops.
