It’s often touted as a “stingray killer” or attempt at one.
They are kinda their own thing but with their onboard eq and the 300s with their triple coil pickup could be moulded to sound like a P/J/SRay or something different. Originals are really pretty heavy.
If you can find one try it out, not for everyone and very over shadowed sadly.
Speaking as someone who is a J guy, the Stingray is pretty much the perfect live bass. And the Ps track record (literally) in the studio is irrefutable.
So... Yes I know, super helpful.
Does a PJ count? It's P with the bridge pickup off. It's never a Jazz however but the bridge pickup can add some of that.
Mine has Aguilar pickups and Audere preamp. Very versatile and thunderous with a little added mid boost, she cuts like a knife.
Using a preamp? Mine was the "Special" MIM. The Fender preamp was horrible. For a short time I wired it as passive, then went with the Audere which is excellent. Had an Audere in a Jazz also with noiseless DiMarzio p'ups, but that one is passive with single coil Fender 'CS '60's. Jazz basses need single coil pickups to sound correct.
J - most versatile for sound, fast playing instrument
P - love the bottom end, but slower to play, less versatile sound
Ray - nice instruments, but I can’t stand their tone
Started with a J, switched to a P for ages, then back to a J (still use the P for certain projects).
Never owned a Ray, but would like to.
Shop I frequent just got in a Dimension, I sat and played it for awhile, really liked it. As I've never owned a Music Man, can't really compare the two tho, can anyone say if they're comparable?
If I could only have one it would be a Jazz Bass. I feel most comfortable on J basses, and have always felt like they are as close to the sound I hear in my head as possible. That being said, I really like P basses and Stingrays, and have owned both in the past. Someday I would like a real Music Man ray, because I have only ever owned instruments from the "Sub" series.
P. I buy all types of basses and always go back to p. Although right now it’s a vintage Yamaha bb800 so, super p?
I’m going to be that person and say PJ. But if I had to pick it’s gonna be a P, followed by a Ray. I’ve never really gotten along with jazz basses
Having owned all 3 at somepoint... ray.
With those being the only options, I'm on team Stingray 🤘🏻
HH stingray will get you every sound you need, Jazz will make you melt, P bass will make you rich.
J
J.
J
P-bass for me (even though my go to bass is a Fender Jazz with p-pickups)
If you can only have one, you buy a P. Not a hard question.
Ibanez ATK? That or a straight up P bass.
Those ibanez ATKs look pretty cool. Never heard or played one.

Not kidding about really heavy My 310 and 315 feel like having an old 32" CRT TV around your neck
Well I just bought a J, so… J?
I personally love Fender Jazz basses. Precisions are ok, but I prefer the sound and feel of a Jazz bass.
I think a J is the most versatile but it also depends on what genre you play.
Stingray
Ray… for sure.

From all Leo's creations... the L2000e is my favorite. For me, it replaces the other 3 mentioned basses while having a voice of its own.
If I could keep only one it would be a P-bass.

Hey fellow PJ player. I’ve also got Aguilars in mine and I’ll second everything ya said.

Jazz, or J with a PJ
I have all 3. I use all 3. If I had to pick 1, the J is the most versatile and the logical choice. However, the ray is the coolest.

Are you even a bassist if you don’t have all 3?
Jazz 100%. Never understood the hype of the stingray
In descending order: * J. * Ray. * P.
The person slaps.
I have used a j the last 14 years no problem

Depends.
P
My first love was the StingRay, then the P bass, but never dallied with a Jizz bass.
Ray J P In that order
Yes. All of the above
The Ricky
I reject your premise completely. I will have all of them, and a Bongo.
EHB.
yes
P
Yes. All are great. But if you want what Leo settled on for this argument, the answer is L2000

Jazz with blend. I need two pickups.
Jazz bass but with a precision neck because I despise that thin neck on j basses
there’s a reason it’s old you don’t need the same 3 basses by leo
Ray all the way.

P MM combo
