As I’ve heard the teenage Mal years can be challenging. I honestly was looking forward to the “teenage” years.. we just lost our 12 week old Mal to heart problems. The poor baby’s heart was beating 3 times faster than it should have. And the vet and cardiac emergency vet couldn’t give us any shred of hope in a fix. Still heartbroken. Sorry just needed to vent.

i lost my five year old pup to the very same thing two months ago. nothing prepares you for it and it completely broke me losing my girl. it sucks even worse when you have the money and ability to pay for treatments but the vet basically tells you no amount of money can save or fix your dog. i’m so sorry you’re having to go through this too. your pup was very beautiful and i’m sure you gave them a lovely life.

X-Crockett-X

I’m sorry you went through this as well. With some idea or hint of promise we would’ve made every effort but with no hope of some semblance of a fix or quality of life. It just sucks.

sorry for your loss ❤️

digitalpunk30

Im so sorry. Its very hard to lose a dog.

jlhinthecountry

She was gorgeous. I’m so sorry for your loss. Find comfort in the fact that she lived her remaining weeks with you. You obviously cared for her very much.

cstingel

So sorry for your loss. 🌈🐾🐾

I am so so sorry. We lost our girl on 7/20/2022. 💔hugs

EvergreenTeal

🥺 That hit me in the gut to read. So sorry 😞. Beautiful pic of your Mal. What kind of issue was this? Is it a genetic inherited issue that can be prevented if parents are screened via genetic testing or through cardiac tests?

X-Crockett-X

The rest of the litter were ok so he said. We took her in immediately after getting her for a puppy check up. The vet said she had a heart murmurs and asked for s to bring her back in two weeks to see the guy who is more specialized but said most dogs grow out of heart murmurs. When the specialist saw her he immediately put her on ekg and saw her little heart was beating 3 times faster than normal. She was in vtac She was active and puppy like.

EvergreenTeal

Ahhh! I hope you are okay. This couldn't have been expected. Poor pup. I really need to do way more research on this breed. I'm wondering if what happened to her is congenital/inherited, and if testing of parents really can reduce the occurrence. Any experts on Mals wish to chime in here? Unless the breeder knows all siblings in the litter were cleared of cardiac issues by thorough testing (a canine cardiac test at vet), how would he know? Well I still hope he is right. I hope the other pups are okay. Breeder should fully refund you. If you like the breeder, despite this misfortunate event, maybe see about asking if/when they will have a future litter. Beautiful pup! Got her angel wings.

X-Crockett-X

He had taken them to a real vet for check ups and shots before we took her home. All others were sent for training. Mine was the only family pet. I believe this was the first litter. Parents were akc registered. Met them both. We shall see what he does, we were supposed to meet last week but he never reached out. I’m trying to be positive that he just got busy.

Vet check on pups is excellent 👍 I was about to ask if this breeder has OFA evaluations on his dogs. Typically hips and elbows are done. You would see the OFA numbers as verification on both parents pedigrees. You can, and should, verify the numbers through this site https://ofa.org/ There are a number of genetic tests done to rule out known inherited disorders. Its a simple DNA test. All breeders should do it. I would want to see a CHIC# on the parents. This is CHIC --> https://ofa.org/chic-programs/ This shows you a few standard health screenings for Mals. These listed here are a given! Any reputable breeder will do these at the least. https://ofa.org/chic-programs/browse-by-breed/?breed=BM Cardiac evaluations on the parents after age two really ought to be done. These are athletes. Set them up for success. Having said that, it may have been completely zero fault of the breeder with what happened to your pup. If you get on board with this breeder again, now you are much more informed 🙂. If you don't go with this breeder again, you can look for one through ABMC https://www.malinoisclub.com to find one. Not sure of your location. I really like this one... https://www.stahlrosenhof.com/ If you just look at the details this breeder has on their dogs, its very helpful. DNA profile is there, various genetic disorders are cleared, their dogs are temperament tested, and they do work that suits the breed and interests of the breeder. This page shows several genetic tests breeders of Mals can have done: https://www.genomia.cz/en/breed/Malinois/ I've used this testing lab before (for field labs). Seems their test panel for Mals is slightly more limited than the one offered by Genomia. https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/products/breeds/116/ Aha! I love this video discussion here by Robert Cabral on Mals if you want to listen... Belgian Malinois Genetics - Health, Looks, Drives with Tasha Mesina EP 97 https://youtu.be/Dx01M4fXf-Y Good luck! 🍀🍀🍀

I lost my mom after prolonged cancer when I was young. She never ever acted as if she had cancer in front of me. Not one time. I have memories of her from good and hard times. What I focus on is thinking of good times when I feel sad. It isn’t to stop my grief because nothing can stop the pain of your loss. But you do NOT want to downward spiral. So I look at that sweet baby who is now a power angel on the other side I think of how much joy that puppy brought you. I believe that you grow the emotion that you give the most energy. So I am encouraging you to focus on your amazing memories when you are grieving. Feel your feelings but give energy to the memories that brought you joy and not the ones that bring you sadness. I 100% know with 100% certainty that your puppy wants you to think of the joy you shared together while waiting for you on the other side.

liveandletthrive

This is a beautiful comment, thank you so much for sharing. Such amazing advice and I admire your optimism and outlook on even the worst situations ❤️

aaracer666

>I believe that you grow the emotion that you give the most energy. Jesus...ive never read or heard that before, and I needed to hear it now more than ever. Thank you for saying that. OP, I am so sorry for your loss. We dont have a belgian, but I love them, and I love your girl pictured here. I'm heartbroken for you. My first dog was killed by my ex when he was 2 years, 2 months and 3 days old. Our elderly dog is near the end at 12 years and nearly 7 months. It's all terribly painful, and there isn't a dog that a pawrent will ever be happy to say goodbye to. You love her, and she loves you. You can see it. She wouldn't want you to hurt for long, and she would want you to have that love again when you're ready.

Efran12

I'm sorry, she looks sweet. ❤

ghammer-head

Yeah ! I agree, so sorry for you all ! We all know how it feels to be broken-hearted

I’m so sincerely sorry for loss. I can’t even imagine how difficult that is. Thinking of you and the sweet memories and moments you were able to share with your sweet pup.

I’m so sorry. I lost my 2 year old 07/12/2022 due to sudden acute liver failure. I have been drowning in grief. I am really keeping you in my thoughts.

Heartbreaking. She was a beautiful pup. 🌈

AlltheBADluck

Wow! Such a young puppers for ❤️ issues. So sorry! I feel like they come back to you though. My girls(a Dutch shepherd and the other a Catahoula) , although different breeds from 2 of my previous paired females (one was a boxer and the other a pitbull/bull terrier mix).... I swear my two now are the other 2 reincarnated. Ironically my mom said the same when she got to know them. It is so darn weird! I am truly sorry for your loss though....😔

I am so very sorry; you never ever expect to lose a dog when they’re this young. She is beautiful. She knew she was adored. :)

I’m so sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful puppy ❤️

MikeYagoobian

I'm sorry for your loss... I'm just wondering, if you got her from a breeder, if they're going to give you a refund or another puppy when they're ready? It would be kind of cruddy of them to lose a pup to such an unexpected issue, then say you're S.O.L...

X-Crockett-X

Not a puppy mil. He said this was the first litter. I was actually at his house. We were supposed to meet last week but that hasn’t happened. I’m trying to be positive but everyday that positivity drops a little more.

RangerMedic-83

I’m sorry for your loss. Hope you try again, they are a majestic creation & wonderful breed for CERTAIN people.

knowsaboutit

very sorry to hear this. I hope you can treasure the time you had in time. I had the same thing happen a long time ago- we had a very spunky Chesapeake, and his body grew fine, but he started getting very tired, sometimes for no reason. The vet couldn't find what was wrong, and referred him to a state university vet school. It turned out that due to a genetic defect his heart wasn't growing and couldn't keep up with the demands of the rest of the body. He was around 12 weeks, too, when he passed on. This was many years ago, but I still have good memories with a tinge of sadness thinking about him.
