uc/ I fucking hate how every techbro on Instagram needs to constantly try to reinvent bike frame geometry
Edit: his fucking ANKLES god damnit. his tailor should be hanged in the town square for that crime against fashion
But maybe this time it's faster and better and stiffer and more comfortable and lighter and more durable and recyclable and affordable and it's çüstøm made by a virgin under moonlight.
I wouldn't miss this.
Almost certainly an industrial design student competition of some sort.
All of the emphasis in many of these programs is on the marketing aspects of the product design. Rendering/form/presentation, etc.
It can be super frustrating when the entire concept is contrary to basic principles of mechanical engineering. Nobody is asking product designers to get engineering degrees--but just LOOK at the attachment of the rear "suspension"! What is that even? Bolted on rigid component in order to better concentrate material stress?
/uc Industrial design students are always redesigning the bicycle, but they are often very similar to other designs. And the standard double diamond bicycle is one of the most efficient designs in existence of all industrial designs. Industrial designers really love spokeless wheels. Spoked wheels are amazing. It's always funny when one of them actually makes a spokeless wheel and figures out why spokes are so great. I have a certain amount of respect for industrial designers, but if engineers could draw nobody would need one.
The rear suspension looks like it was designed by someone who saw other rear suspensions and just didn’t understand how they work but wanted to design something that looked like them, but more modern and innovative.
LOL-- I studied industrial design after mechanical engineering. Then ended up doing visual effects instead.
edit: -- yes-- I have witnessed ID students realize just how brilliant an existing age-old design is after trying to "rethink" it. Spokeless wheels are a great example.
> just LOOK at the attachment of the rear "suspension"! What is that even? Bolted on rigid component in order to better concentrate material stress?
I assumed the idea was to make it modular, so that the same frame could be fitted differently for various rear wheels or a different geometry.
They have it attached on the inside of the curve. It's not even distributing the stress. I don't understand how that won't buckle the second you sit on it.
Then you don’t understand structural integrity of composite materials . Aside from the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a derailer hanger , that chain stay can have a chain put on without breaking the chain .
/uc It looks like student project to me. Students have to learn somehow and this looks actually pretty rad. His pants are probably cheap, because he has no income, I guess.
Definatly the most sexy part of the human body...
We all cant wait to see a fully dressed man with exposed snkles.
Its also "cool" to wear pants under the ass and look like a retard while walking.
Its also cool to remove chest air and looking like a badly shaved beard in the days after.
Or wear a white helmet like most fkd up fashion victims.
Get with it young man 🤩
I think in the sketch I can see a shaft drive. But the shaft is just hanging there and there’s nothing to keep the bevel gears in position. Because mounting the shaft to the frame wouldn’t be innovative.
Commenting on Has gravel finally gone too far?...hes flexing his design skills at convincing us of things we don’t need while designing out what we do. he will go far in the bike industry.
Yea one ride and you'll see how good those screws hold up... I'd like to see it get lifted off the ground will it just droop down loosely? There are too many questions to be answered here.
I was wondering that too like who tf completely redesigns the entire frame of the bike and makes a detachable custom rear stay but just use whatever fork
He managed to make a frame that’s not only uglier, but also heavier, wow! That frame has to weigh a ton. Makes me wonder if that award is for like a high school or junior college design competition, because I’m struggling to see how that would be an improvement in any way? Good for him tho, I’ve never designed and built a frame myself.
/uc this bike is just that guy’s bachelor’s degree project. It’s a hybrid bike that doesn’t have a chain (idk how that would work as it isn’t explained in the article)
/c ew that bike is so ugly
Jesus F Christ! What kind of ungodly creation is this??!?
Aside from the atrocious geometry, bluetooth drive train and fake rear suspension, you have this custom carbon monstrosity costing around 3000€ at least and then you slap on one of Rock Shox cheapest and worst forks...
Reminds me of half finished Bro Truck builds at SEMA with no driveshaft. This looks like shit. This makes Cipollini frames look good. The amount of times this kid must have recieved praise like, “It looks like it’s moving fast while standing still…”
I just looked this thing up and its supposed to be a "Hybrid-Elektro-Cruiser-Bike" with a chainless design and its 3d printed aswell. And they won a goldmedall for this hybridcruisser. Also what up with the fender in the render, that works well with the fork. And why does it have gears then?
Such a drastic design change that there are bound to be shit you really love and shit you really hate. I’d rather not pay a shit ton of money to beta test whatever this is. If it’s a worthwhile design then it will be around in a few years, likely with improvements.

Stiffer and more compliant
that's how I got by in college

I think the rear suspension was designed by someone who saw rear suspension and decided he wanted to build an inherent failure point into his design.

/UC I'm an industrial designer. All student work is hot garbage. Including mine.

Shouldn't award stupidity though 😄
His ankles are 𝒜𝑒𝓇𝑜
/uc It looks like student project to me. Students have to learn somehow and this looks actually pretty rad. His pants are probably cheap, because he has no income, I guess.
Has he considered not being poor?
He’s probably still early in his career and hasn’t expanded beyond a single-location practice yet.
Is he stupid?
Should've gone to dental school instead of design school.
Obviously not if that’s what he’s studying.
students have to learn... how to design a retarded bike? i'm not sure that's a mandatory park of the curriculum lol
In what way is this considered rad?
Thank you for your stupid question, I will note it down among other stupid questions.
Rad as in 1990s concept bike. It looks terrible
Lmao Showing your ankles is cool now Get with it old man

he probably bought it in second hand store
Second-hand store for sure. Red tags were 50% off that day.
Raspberry tags.
Floods a lot where he lives.
he didn't get his ankles from his tailor. He got 'em from his mom-ma 👏
His tailor gave it to his mom-ma and out popped baby Fred
plot twist 😱
Bro it's a crim on fashion but that 38mm gap makes the pant leg more aero across the top of the shoe.
Better yet wear longer socks
I love how he used the shittiest components possible except for the enve wheels.
Looks like the enve wheels were just temp loaners for the photo shoot. The one he's holding up is missing logos.
Those new invisible chains are pretty high tech
No chain, no brakes, no derailleur. Why?
Why would you want a chain when you could get the shaft?
Bluetooth chain
More Aero, bro. Saves at least 2 watts in the wind, not to mention ZERO loss to friction in the drivetrain.
I guess a chain would break the visual flow of the bike. Which would actually be really dumb.
They took Fred’s shitty tattoo and made it real
I bet that shit weighs 35 lbs. Getting Superstrata vibes (and we know how that turned out)
It's so bad. That looks like a hard-tail too so what is going on with the chainstay? No derailleur either? I feel pain on the inside.
Yea one ride and you'll see how good those screws hold up... I'd like to see it get lifted off the ground will it just droop down loosely? There are too many questions to be answered here.
Did he just give up when it came to the fork?
I was wondering that too like who tf completely redesigns the entire frame of the bike and makes a detachable custom rear stay but just use whatever fork
At the very least, use a wavy pinarello fork.
Get a steel fork and wavy it yourself
That would work. Just paint it.
To be fair, would you trust a fork designed by this guy? He obviously doesn’t trust himself, either, so there’s that.
Needs one of those hideous and awful Trust forks
He managed to make a frame that’s not only uglier, but also heavier, wow! That frame has to weigh a ton. This one of the ugliest bikes I've ever seen. What the actual fuck?!
its italian design, you wouldnt understand
My thoughts exactly😂😂😂
Chainless bike?
A chain and derailer would spoil the ascetics. Get rid of them.
Bluetooth drivetrain
That looks like Fred was REALLY trying to build a bike that looks like the old Santa Cruz logo
How do I get my hands on those wireless brakes
You don't. They're Neuralink-controlled.
Is there ANY benefit to this redesign?
It’s good for a quick circlejerk. Plus it’ll give me something to complain about when it gets reposted 12 times. What else could you want?
oh no Ybiking again
have they banned men from xbicing yet because it's **X**biking not **Y**biking
Di2 chain is pretty sweet
Nice speed sniffer
He’s from my country, a student at Timisoara University of Arts & Design, he won gold at a competition with this hybrid electrical shite of a bice.
No chain ?
Fuck this
Wtf is even that . /uc gotta give the guy credit for coming up with a design and actually made it happen.
Jokes aside, his name is David Borovic and he won a medal with his hybrid bike Synthesis. Kudos to him.
Maybe next he’ll learn how to tuck in his shirt
He could get a medal for that too.
gravel went too far the day it took the name of something that already existed and called itself gravel just to be more expensive and uglier
Just lean it against a tree and let the scrap man take it away in his van.
All that design work and he throws a cheap rock shocks fork on it.
That's fucking nasty never catch me on that pile of dog shit
Uc/ somebody from xbiking with art degree was given money lmao.
hey guys Fred on Mars need bice too
Saved weight on the chain, that's thinking.
ha can design the frame but not a better looking stem and handlebar to go with it???
holy shit they made a cybertruck bike
Let them go further just so we can see the fuckery
Kombucha personified.
This is the velocipedic equivalent of a Robert Maplethorpe photo.
It looks like 90’s Batman would have ridden if his Batmotorcycle was in the shop.
Did they just use the start trek badge and rotate it 90ccw, and the turned it into a frame?
Just the Italians
Id kom on that
They say people look like their dogs. This guy somehow looks like his bike.

My dentist has this as an art piece hanging on his wall
/uc this bike is just that guy’s bachelor’s degree project. It’s a hybrid bike that doesn’t have a chain (idk how that would work as it isn’t explained in the article) /c ew that bike is so ugly
The $50 suspension fork doing all the heavy lifting.
What in the chicken fuck bike reincarnation tarnation am I looking at?!?
Jesus F Christ! What kind of ungodly creation is this??!? Aside from the atrocious geometry, bluetooth drive train and fake rear suspension, you have this custom carbon monstrosity costing around 3000€ at least and then you slap on one of Rock Shox cheapest and worst forks...
Why do I hate this man?
Not going very far without bidon cages Frederiqo. /uc qr Judy's? Wtf
lol not even a chain lol not even aero stem lol not even aero fork
Does this have any other benefits other than being so ugly that even a meth addict wouldn’t want to steal it?
Plenty of room for a race winning battery!
Bluetooth chain
In my view it hasn't gone far enough
It's like someone asked AI to design a bike frame but 95% of the training data was images of the Gymshark logo
Ugly! And if anything breaks, you can throw the whole frame away.
Brilliant; make a bicycle that worse than all the other bikes, and get a diploma.
I just don’t understand gravel bikes. Why not just use a trail MTB instead?!?
Retro-futuristic Hipster ain’t gravel
Reminds me of half finished Bro Truck builds at SEMA with no driveshaft. This looks like shit. This makes Cipollini frames look good. The amount of times this kid must have recieved praise like, “It looks like it’s moving fast while standing still…”
It's fugly and will shatter when it hits rough terrain. On the other hand it's a fine example of what Industrial Design has to offer.
How cute. They are still giving out participation medals. Edit: Also, didn't your mom tell you to put on an undershirt?
I really hate the situation going on with the bottom of his pants and his shoes
And his shirt 😬
Gravel bikes are ducks, neither road, neither MTB, just kind of in between... a gimmick to have folks buy a third bike...
The chain has nowhere to go and the swingarm can’t swing. A bike with square wheels would make more sense.
Hasn't gone far enough. Get that thing away from me. Go on, KEEP GOIN' COCKSUCKA! 😡 GET. THAT. THING #OUTTA HERE!
Look he drew this as a kid and now made it tangible that is fn impressive however it’s fn awful
Best bike for a dentist that likes invi-line for their patients. A bike with an invi-chain.
He has no chain so he unable to velo… is he stupid?
It’s gotta be a Cannondale
Idk why, his face looks like the bike
🤮🤢😷💩☠️
It's kinda giving off [Bowden Spacelander](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Bowden#/media/File:Benjamin_G_Bowden_-_Spacelander_Bicycle.jpg) vibes
It's kinda giving off [Bowden Spacelander](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Bowden#/media/File:Benjamin_G_Bowden_-_Spacelander_Bicycle.jpg) vibes
Whaddya mean finally? Gravel went too far a long time ago…
I say gravel hasn’t got too far enough!
I would rather kill myself that ride that
Oh, are we back in 1998?
I love the Dollar General medal and copy paper award.
Mudguard missing, …on the built bike vs Infograph. #Fail No socks #DoubleFail
Such a drastic design change that there are bound to be shit you really love and shit you really hate. I’d rather not pay a shit ton of money to beta test whatever this is. If it’s a worthwhile design then it will be around in a few years, likely with improvements.
/uc okay am I the only one giving this young person some kudos for getting a design and real life mock up done?
/uc Yeah, you are.
It is somewhat admirable that he was able to overcome fetal alcohol syndrome and childhood malnutrition to assemble these parts.
No. I am still angry at using a Rock Shox.
🤣
NGL. Love me a weird bike. I Approve.
