there’s a newer SpongeBob episode that has a cute moment of them playing a video game

not really related to the post that much but you said video games so I just wanted to share 😭
They would have to buy the video game rights to do that. You can get in trouble for copyright infringement. They only get the opportunity to do that some times. Thats why they always make up fake names. I have the perfect clip poking fun at that. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdTQ6ulgQ0o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdTQ6ulgQ0o)
That whole scene is so fucking funny and kinda illustrates OP's point.
Tony holding the controller one handed and clearly just mashing one button.
"I'MA WARIO! I'MA GONNA WIN" playing 5 times for no reason.
AJ just sucks ass despite him apparently playing all the time.
Even if they don't show the game onscreen? I'd say the easiest thing to do is just have the actors play Mario Kart or something but don't actually show the screen. Or at the very least, just find some random shovelware knockoff of Mario Kart that you don't need rights for
The difference between someone actually playing a game versus someone pressing random buttons on a controller to *look like* they're playing a game is pretty severe
Tv shows have reshoots so the actor might have to do the same thing over and over again to get the shot continuity right. Imagine the tv screen being different every time they cut the scene together in adobe premiere. I think they use green screens on the tv screens so that they can edit in footage of what is on the television screen later. I suppose they could record someone playing the game then put that footage on the green screen later.
I've heard it was common for people to get that into Pac Man in it's prime but it's hard to understand from my modern perspective. I feel like even if I had no other options, pac man only has so much play time before I get burnt out, although I do think it's a fun game though.
IDK, but, I've heard that as time has gone on peoples attention spans have decreased on average, that added with the fact that you just had fewer options for entertainment in the past, I can see how you could spend a night playing Pac-Man if you were living back then.
I quite like the frogger episode in Seinfeld, mainly for the ending having a really creative shot where George is frogger himself.
It was a real breath of fresh air because the shows cinematography is usually pretty flat bar a few jokes.
Its really not that hard. They just need to A) Ask their relatives who are into video games for input b) Look up a lets play on youtube of the exact game they want and change the names, c) Go on the video game wiki.
>Look up a lets play on youtube of the exact game they want and change the names
Family Guy did that once and...lets just say Fox thought it'd be a good idea to send a strike to the creator of the original video
I meant look up a lets play and watch it for research and maybe take notes. I never meant put the lets play in the episode. And by change the names I meant when the characters talk they can say Legend of Yelda instead of Legend of Zelda to avoid copyright.
TV show gamers:
Female: Nerdy, you'll know 'cause she wears glasses and baggy clothes and knows a lot of trivia/info about "the game" they're gaming 😅, BUTTTTTT, once they remove the glasses and baggy clothes, they're super hot.
Male: If sidekick, nerdy with glasses, sometimes fat, but the protagonist, also nerdy with glasses, NEVER FAT, but sometimes muscular or something 😅.

I found this movie fun when i was younger but even i knew the tech in it for how the game worked was completely bs
I remember in Percy Jackson Lightning Thief there was a scene where one of the characters was actually playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 with "real" gameplay
Do you know what would be funny? If it shows a character absolutely abusing a controller with how much buttons mashing they’re doing but then it shows it’s an Animal Crossing type game
Jesse Pinkman playing Rage in Breaking Bad was an interesting one. It was this weird bespoke version made specifically for the episode which was on-rails and used a light gun. Nothing like the actual game.
Its not just that. Sometimes they have a 40 year old who never played video games just making stuff up because he hasn't played one in years. You can always tell when that happens. Research can help writing be better.
I can’t remember the movie but I distinctly recall a movie where it showed two kids playing Final Fantasy eight as a two player game. It always drove me crazy
There’s that one State Farm (I think) commercial airing now where the guy is playing video games with a controller in his right hand and a phone in his left texting. Every time I see it and hear button clicking I’m like…wtf kind of game is this? He’s just using his thumbstick. Dumb.
Reminds me in Lost when Walt was playing a game boy SP and he told his dad he needed new batteries, when the game boy SP has a rechargeable battery that you cannot swap out.

The console gives me N64 vibes
SpongeBob's controller is unplugged.
little brother
It’s straight up a N64
With NES controllers to boot
NES controllers with joysticks... Whatever game they're playing has to be a twin stick game I guess
Haven't seen you in a while. Also, r/foundQQ_gabe
Spongbob is the little bro who's controller ain't plugged in
Momagedon is one of my favorate episodes ever.
LMFAOO SPONGEBOBS CONTROLLER IS UNPLUGGED, this so cute actually
i'm loving the new art style. spongebob looks adorable
Poor Spongebob, he's getting the little brother treatment
yeah but he looks so happy too 😭😭😭
This frame is oddly wholesome, look at them, just 2 bros and their boss havin’ a good time :)
N64 had sex with the NES and this is what happened
Wow the show looks like ass now.
Maybe (just a thought) you actually (now hear me out for a second) watch the episode (keep on listening) before judging it 🤯🤯🤯
It’s common knowledge the show is dogshit compared to earlier seasons. Unless you’re <14 or something.
Eh age isn’t really a factor, you can enjoy, or dislike any era of the show regardless of your age.
Age is definitely a factor
are you fr gatekeeping a show based off age 😭
You don’t even know what gatekeeping means bud lmao can’t believe I was prolly this braindead at your age.
Ratio’d
its a common opinion, not common knowledge. common knowledge means a fact most people know
I know this sounds crazy, but just TAPE THEM PLAYING THE ACTUAL GAME
They would have to buy the video game rights to do that. You can get in trouble for copyright infringement. They only get the opportunity to do that some times. Then how come Tony Soprano is playing Mario Kart 64?
They must have paid for the rights. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.
Or how Jesse Pinkman is playing Sonic 06 in Breaking Bad?
They must have paid for the rights. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.
I was more thinking they may be tie-ins or discreet advertisements but that also may be the case.
A sponsorship of Sonic 06 years after the game came out (and bombed) would be funny af
If the game bombed, might be the rights are cheaper.

He never had the makings of a speedrunner.

On sitcoms they use 4 cameras to get 4 angles at any time. They might still record the tv. I guess if its a single camera show they can do that.
They can just not cut the filmed screen into episode?
True
you need to buy rights, to sell a video, of someone playing a game, without actually showing said game?
they can just use abandonware, can't they?

Get meta with it and have them playing the literal episode you are watching right now like it’s a video game
I hate when they constantly flail the controller around.
And they just mash every single button on them, the only excuse for those are if theyre playing fighting games.

it's always some game called bunny blast 2 or something that looks like it was made 20 years ago and they always stay up all night playing it.
Like Spencer on icarly playing pac rat. I can see someone getting addicted to pac man though.
I've heard it was common for people to get that into Pac Man in it's prime but it's hard to understand from my modern perspective. I feel like even if I had no other options, pac man only has so much play time before I get burnt out, although I do think it's a fun game though.

Its a fun easy to play game.
He did clearly say it was an older game in the episode, though.
Yeah. Its a great episode and it's relatable.
Controller is off
This pisses me off so much

Wait what? That actually happened?
Yep. But at least it worked out.
Don’t forget the frantic button mashing and thumb stick spinning
The only excuse for that if it shows theyre playing a fighting game
Must be the Dragonball Budokai Tenkaichi beam clashes

How they filmed the Big Bang Theory gang playing Halo on the Xbox will never not amuse me and make me cringe at the same time
I was just watching a video talking about the simpsons playing videogames 💀
was it bart playing lol
Yes 😭. Other characters too tho
Atari pac-man / donkey kong sound effects
Jesse Pinkman playing Rage in Breaking Bad was an interesting one. It was this weird bespoke version made specifically for the episode which was on-rails and used a light gun. Nothing like the actual game.
The gamer is obsessed with beating his high score
They don't have the rights.
I was gonna come here and post this with the same complaint lol. The movie was Charlie's Angels.

Steven Universe does this well in a lot of ways. He’s always playing a different console with appropriate controller.
The scene in The Breakup with Vince Vaugn playing video games is cinema. Also Michael Cera in Superbad when he gets upset
Writers when it comes time to write science jargon
Real
Mash all the buttons to move forwards
Reminds me in Lost when Walt was playing a game boy SP and he told his dad he needed new batteries, when the game boy SP has a rechargeable battery that you cannot swap out.
It has to the same video game characters in various cartoon plays. All they do is mash buttons.
or playing an instrument
