I would let him believe he has the ability as long as he remains drunk/poisoned, even though he doesn't have the ability. If the drunking/poisoning stops, you won't be able to visit the philo because he doesn't have a waking ability

As long as he's poisoned you pretend. If he's ever healthy/sober, you can't pretend anymore: he never truly gained the ability. It's why poisoner goes after philo in the night order, it makes it simpler if this step can't be poisoned. But they could be poisoned by a No Dashii that moves somehow.

If you don't wake up a living Philo who thinks they should wake up they know they must be droisoned.

If they are poisoned when they select a character, then they do not gain the character's ability, so you can't legally continue waking them up and lying to them once they are sober. You can only wake them up for as long as they remain poisoned or drunk.

sturmeh

If you run it this way, you have to gaslight the player when they ask why they are not waking up in a consult, because you shouldn't be telling them that they were poisoned. I prefer to just keep waking them up, so they don't learn that they were poisoned in the past.

I would tell the player that I had not made a mistake and leave it at that. The player can figure it out on their own – that's how the game works. Continuing to wake them up is against the rules. The ST is only allowed to lie to a player when there's a mechanical reason to do so.
