Open matte version available now in 4K has even better aspect ratio than imax and every scene in digital world has this ratio. Official Bluray release is a mix of imax and cropped scenes in digital world so it's not that good as the unofficial version.
Yeah im sure they look awesome. My thought process was I'd always watch the blu of CF and then it would look "bad" in comparison. Hoping for a fixed release for the new one!
It’s not an article, it’s a podcast that the director did. He talks about finishing the remasters recently, but doesn’t mention physical media at all

Edit: The quote
“I just did a remaster, uh, a couple months ago, so again, to watch it again, now see it you know Ultra HD, Atmos, I, uhm… it’s great, I can’t wait for that to come out”

No word on physical media
That "complete" edition they released a couple years ago was so disappointing lol. Hopefully they release an actual complete version eventually. At least the sessions are out there for it
It’s a decent movie, but the special effects and soundtrack are what makes it great. For me, there’s also some nostalgia attached to it. 2010/2011 was a pretty special time in my life.
Maybe is because I watched it many years later until 2015 in one of my classes so I didn't enjoy it lol. BUT I remember in early 2011 I went to the movies with some friends to watch Jack Black's Gulliver's travels in 3d and when the TRON trailer came on IT WAS AMAZING DUDE. It was the first time I watched anything in 3d but seeing things fly out of the screen was definitely something else. I remember by the end of the trailer they threw one of those light rings to the audience and it flew out of the screen above my head. I wanted to watch it for that alone, while I never got to see it in theaters I will never forget that moment.
I literally just watched it again this morning. It's wild how bad it its. Almost as bad as the Patrick Stewart de-aging cgi in X-Men 3 and that had the excuse of being one of the first test cases for the tech.
Yes, though the opening scene shows the same de-aged Bridges playing a younger Kevin Flynn in the real world. That's also what people are referring to and the first time you see the effect in the movie.
I still hold that the whole movie is such a trippy fantasy that it works. No, it's not "realistic," but none of that movie is, and that's ok to me. Unlike pretty much all other movies with de-aging, especially on now-dead actors, this one gets a pass from me. ;-)
It'd be so nice if they took that little extra effort. I feel like it's expecting too much, but I'll keep on hoping 🤷
Edit: just seeing that guy works at LucasFilms now..
Depends, if the original software used, and files kept, are able to be upgraded with a 4K version of the software (re-rendered) it could look good, but, in any case I’m happy with the 3D disc. Any 2D version is too flat for this film.
Only thing I want is Atmos, but, really, this is best in 3D, and the audio is excellent for not being atmos, in fact, it was a reference disc for audio for home theater enthusiasts for years (2D or 3D blu-ray, same audio). Anyway, I’ll keep my 3D disc.
It would be nice to see both the original and Legacy get 4k discs to coincide with Tron: Ares. That might he the only reason for me to get excited for Ares.
Went to the theater to see this during the original release and loved it. Perfect movie theater experience, seeing at home with Atmos and 4k could be awesome. Too bad it won’t have the rad as fuck 3d. Normal world was 2d and when Flynn’s son arrived in Tron everything switched to 3d. Really fun detail.
There may or may not be an amazing 4K upscale already out there that i hope disney can get close to.
The upscale has a normal aspect ratio for the real world scenes, but for any scene inside the grid he used an IMAX aspect ratio. It's awesome, i just hope disney does the same because it is amazing!
Day 1 for sure
Will definitely get if it has expanded aspect ratio for the imax scenes.

Is this like a bootleg?
It almost certainly will, seeing as to how every HD home media release has had them, including streaming.
I just hope they don't screw us over like Disney plus. Also the catching fire 4k release haunts me.
I wish there was a CF fan edit with the IMAX scenes upscaled to 4K and inserted back into the film.
I just don't understand how they screwed that up. I'd have bought every one in 4k but instead I'm just fine with my blurays.
I bought them all on 4K. The HDR + Atmos on all four is nice. The lack of IMAX will forever taint part II though.
Yeah im sure they look awesome. My thought process was I'd always watch the blu of CF and then it would look "bad" in comparison. Hoping for a fixed release for the new one!
There's no proof that this is getting a physical release. Soz.
Yea I heard as of rn it will be released on Disney Plus but no word on physical
Is this sarcasm? Why would an account called Dawn of the Discs post about a digital release?
Because assumption is the mother of all fuck ups?
Yea I’ve been trying to hunt for an actual article, but to no avail yet

Yes, confirmed in the podcast

The original too please!
About freakin’ time!
Do people genuinely like this movie or they like the special effects?
the real star is the Daft Punk score

Getting sucked into your favorite video game definitely has an appeal to some people.
Both
I watch it probably once a month. There's dozens of us over in r/Tron
Thought that since it was shot in 2k it would be difficult to do a 4k
It wasn’t even shot in 2K. It was shot in standard 1920x1080 HD on the Sony F35. So it’s without a doubt just an upscale
It also used the Phantom HD which is up to 2K.
Yes!!! Ok, one more off my checklist. Speed Racer (2008) next please
Good! Let's hope they fix Jeff Bridges awful de-aged face in the opening scenes.
I literally just watched it again this morning. It's wild how bad it its. Almost as bad as the Patrick Stewart de-aging cgi in X-Men 3 and that had the excuse of being one of the first test cases for the tech.
It's the only thing I hate about the movie. Everything else is amazing!
Oh I agree. I love Tron: Legacy.
Bro it was 2010 💀💀💀
And the uncanny aspects worked IMO with it being in a fantasy computer world and such... lol

God yes. If this dude could do it, they could. https://youtu.be/vW6PKX5KD-U?si=itjxEgQJ-RhpNSD2

Disney is really coming through lately.
Why on earth would we get the sequel before the original?? Makes no sense.
Because the way they did the CGI back in the day. A 4k version of tron 1 might show off some of the corners that were cut.
Hope this is true.
Definitely getting that
I don’t buy much anymore but this will be a purchase for sure.
Ok DEFINITELY getting that.
Oh hell yes!
Mmm, I had heard there was a 1440p 3D version shown years ago but never released, I wonder if this is an upscale or a complete ground up redo.
Kinda don’t want to see the CGi in higher resolution

Finally, just watched my bluray again last week
Oh nice. I haven't seen this movie since it's original release and remember it being pretty awesome. Can't wait.
Will this just be updated to 4k on Apple TV so I don’t have to rebuy it?
People are saying it’s a digital only

I’ll still always choose to watch this in 3D given the choice!
[It was shot in 1080p](https://shotonwhat.com/tron-2-2010) but 4K Blu-ray will enable HDR.

I bought the regular blu-ray for $6 back in August, you're all welcome.
I bet Disney is remastering this for Apple Vision Pro, as Disney+ will offer 3D movies in 4K HDR and HFR (for select titles) on the device.
