the random background music when something bad/dramatic happens or when its a change of scene
edit: the show just feels so quiet now which is fine but i miss the old style
I also loved the ‘interruption bit’ they did, with Gene interrupting Hugo several times in a row. The same bit was repeated by Jocelyn refilling the sodastream when the kids at school had their own production line.
My favorite example of that is Tina's birthday episode. Her sitting under the table dramatically telling everyone she won't go to her party if Jimmy Jr isn't there is always hilarious!
I do miss how chaotic and joke fulled the first few seasons are. But then if they’d kept the same style you’d never get episodes like The Amazing Rudy in the latest seasons which has to be one of my favourite things put to animation.
And him not being so pathetic sometimes! I feel like Bob went from a guy who is dry and unrattled by his kids, but a passionate guy who would hilariously go off the rails sometimes (the Christmas with his dad, the renovation of the restaurant, the drone guy…) to a really wishy-washy guy who is just kinda a pushover and says “uhhh I don’t know uhhhh” a lot
He went from a guy who was passionate about various things while also trying to keep his kids from destroying the place to a guy who never has emotion aside from worrying about something when stuff goes wrong. No anger, no happiness, just a blank look.
It's like the Simpsons but in reverse - early seasons featured Bob as the main character but switched to the kids. The Simpsons started with Bart but switched to Homer.
I would say as a 38 year old new dad that current Bob is far closer to my level of energy. I'm knackered with a very vacant expression.
I think the loss of his antagonist Jimmy Pesto for a few seasons really affected what they could do with him. He's also pals with Enid and Jairo now.
I do miss the characters as they were in season 3. I think that was the sweet spot.
I miss the Bob who thinks he might have tried crack… he liked it…. A lot 😂
Seriously though “loopy dad” as Gene called him in that one episode, is my favorite unhinged form of Bob, and I feel like we don’t see him anymore
The interruptions. Gene interrupted Hugo attempting to speak several times in the first episode.
The same joke was repeated when Jocelyn kept messing with the sodastream when the kids were talking in their ‘office’ when they were making that wooden plank toy.
I lose it every time I watch Art Crawl and they do the jumpcuts to Aunt Gayle with the shrimp dress and her eating the lipstick. Like the sound effects are timelessly funny for me, especially the horn when it cuts to the shaved cat
Not a bit really, but I think the Bob/Fishoeder buddy episodes work best, more focus on “star” of the show.
IMO, Kevin Kline & H. Jon talent & characters work well together.
Louise : *calmly* “Andy. Ollie, come here. Listen, I’m pushing you because you’ve got talent babies. And I’m gonna take care of you. Oh, you better believe it. But first you’ve got to make some money for Mommy. Okay Babies? *looks at Devin McJim* You too Red. What’s your name Sweetheart?”
Devin Mcjim : *softly* “Devin Mc J-”
Louise : *screaming* “SHUT UP! IT DOESN’T MATTER! STOP TALKING! START WORKING! WORK! SHELLS GO IN THE MIDDLE! *graps a painting and turns to a customer* Here you go. A One Of a Kind Original. Help support these poor deformed orphans. 20 Bucks.”
😂😂😂
The ones in New York do and the ones in California do, but it's all at the same time so they hear and interact with each other. The few years during covid they all recorded at their own houses but still live with everyone. That's why it started to sound different during that time. I believe they're back to the old way.
When the screen goes red as Bob is about to loose his mind when the restaurant is closed to green mold. The scene is when they’re at jimmy pesto’s towards the end of the episode.
Episode where Bob had an arcade machine in his restaurant but couldn't stop playing because Jimmy Pesto typed in "Bob Sux" as the high score. Can't give you the name of the episode sadly. But I think it's also the first appearance of Darrel?
The moments where they were clearly riffing. I know H. Jon Benjamin used to purposely not read the script until they were literally recording his lines and the results were hilarious. I miss the edgy, organic, improvisational stuff so much.
And I miss when they let Louise be a worldly, mildly psychopathic, money-hungry mastermind. I mean they still sprinkle it in there sometimes, like she's still inexplicably astute and streetwise, which were always my favorite traits. But I miss seeing her unhinged. Art Crawl and Bed & Breakfast Louise perfect and flawless. And I 1000% felt seen by Ambergris Louise.
I miss the smiley personality Bob had in the beginning. The way he would smile and laugh alot. They slowly turned him into more grumpy and tired and dull. Which I get lol. But I liked smiley Bob. He was interesting.
Random zoom ins and jokes that would go on way to long
You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee.
I loved how much Bob adored the musical “CAKE” and how he made everyone “cake” with him and slightly traumatized Teddy when he aggressively patty-caked him lmao - also Frond asking him if he’s a “Patty Daddy”.
I love that they bring “CAKE” up again several seasons later in season 9 when the musical is back in town and there is radio show selling tickets at a discount and Bob, Linda, and Teddy all call in to get 2 tickets to go see the show. When Teddy gets through, his phone dies and Bob loses his shit on Teddy - the man does not play when it comes to his musical.

I miss the whole pace, tone, and energy.. basically everything about what Bob's Burgers was in Season 1. Since they've made it far too flat/zombie-like animation wise, and contrarily they are shoe-horning drama and musical numbers into places it doesn't belong. Some of the story lines are okay.. but I miss when Louise didn't act so much like an intelligent 40 year old, and more like an intelligent, mischievous child. The show is ruined for me I don't really go past Season 7 or so but stick to earlier the better.
Agreed, it's just not as fun of a watch anymore. First the kids were the main character, now it's kind of just Louise. People will always say how it's more wholesome now etc, but was so striking about he early seasons was you could tell how much they all loved and supported each other despite all the craziness. Now it just feels forced, and it's actually lost some nuance.
The doctor said the *last* thing he should do is stop playing the game.
I miss all the weird camera edits, same for the background sounds and music. The music in general was better when it was in the background instead of the characters singing.
The weird little horn that plays when each family member goes out to talk to the Moody Foodie always makes me laugh.
How we...*buurp* doin' today?
I don’t know for sure but I think he lies to Linda later in this episode but doesn’t cross his eyes, I could be wrong but when he lies to her about the sailing lessons him and the kids are supposedly taking when they are actually going to the arcade
I feel like recently they’ve been making the characters branch off more for episodes but i really miss just an episode of the family having one big adventure or issue together and, then maybe Gayle or Linda’s parents come in or Teddy.

the random background music when something bad/dramatic happens or when its a change of scene edit: the show just feels so quiet now which is fine but i miss the old style
Like Louise’s mischief music - I wish they had kept that
I miss the dramatic music with the zoom-ins.
The one where it zooms in on the hole in Bobs comfy pants lol
Same
I kinda miss the "quick zoom ins" they did in the first season.
With the dramatic orchestral hits, yes.
Cows can’t go down stairs.
WHAT!?
yea i heard that, its like a fun fact
That better not be true!!
“We know that you’ll push on a cow’s butt all day.”
Also known as a fact.
They were great. I miss them.
I also loved the ‘interruption bit’ they did, with Gene interrupting Hugo several times in a row. The same bit was repeated by Jocelyn refilling the sodastream when the kids at school had their own production line.
I can’t believe *fshhhhht* I can’t *fshhhhht* I *fssssssht* I can’t believe you left me for *him*!
You left someone for me?
He doesn’t even know?!?!
LITERALLY THE BEST REPEAT BIT
My favorite example of that is Tina's birthday episode. Her sitting under the table dramatically telling everyone she won't go to her party if Jimmy Jr isn't there is always hilarious!
This!! Ep 1 S1 was a masterpiece
Lol it's my favorite episode. Followed by Art Crawl and when Mickey robs the bank.
Mickey robing the bank is one of my favorite episodes and I didn’t realize it until just now.
That’s my DADDY!!!
THATS MY DADDY IN THERE!
Please Bobby, don't leave me alone with these freaking kids.
I liked the scene where they did quick montage of Gayle shaving her cat, eats red lipstick, and walk down the aisle in a shrimp dress.
Art Crawl was amazing
You smell like ointment and pee!
You smell like ointment and pee!
You are in direct violation of MY WIFE!
Smells like strawberries… it’s spoils Milk you dummy!! Lol
I do miss how chaotic and joke fulled the first few seasons are. But then if they’d kept the same style you’d never get episodes like The Amazing Rudy in the latest seasons which has to be one of my favourite things put to animation.
And the random all red screens
The rage for Hugo and Jimmy Pesto with that loud buzzing/screeching sound
\*mumbles\* New York, New York...
I liked them because they were dramatic, but made me brainy hurt when they did the whole family in that one zoom in zoom out part.
That one was my favorite. It’s maybe 3 seconds but it’s absolute chaos
Didn't they bring it back recently in the Upper Butt episode?
And there have been prime moments in later seasons
Fr they were so funny
This is the only answer
Bob being unhinged. "OVERDONE AND DRY!"
Him having a personality at all, honestly.
And fights like he and Teddy are an old married couple!
Don’t feed a guy a sponge Bobby.
In pretty sure his family broke him
Would you say he's... overdone and dry? (I love Bob still but I, too, miss his passion from the early seasons).
I think the loss of his antagonist Jimmy Pesto for a few seasons really affected what they could do with him. He's also pals with Enid and Jairo now. I do miss the characters as they were in season 3. I think that was the sweet spot.
The red filter that would randomly appear for a split second when Bob was enraged.
With the sound effect!
They had SUCK an opportunity to do it somewhere in the most recent season where they zoomed in dramatically. I was so man they missed it
They've done it recently when Bob is in Mr. Fish's play so they can expand into the space next door. Season 13 in think
Yes! When i first saw it I was freaking out thinking my tv was broken or something 🤣
What episode does this happen in? I don’t remember it at all.
Weekend at Mort's when Bob is drunk at Jimmy Pesto's
Yes
My boyfriend and I lose it every time Bob crosses eyes
Yes! I definitely want more cross-eyed Bob. I also wish we could see more of Teddy not knowing where to sign on a form.
So, anywhere?
No - on the line…
And Teddy not knowing their last name
lol! His name is Bob Burger
He goes by both
Did the cross eye thing happen more than once?
No - just the one episode. It was so funny though - I would love to see it again.
The more edgy comedy at times. Like when Mort uses real humans organs to help Linda put on her dinner theatre
I miss Mort in general! Where has he been :(
I think the VA is basically retired
The VA?
Virginia
voice actor
I thought it was because his actor was hard to work with
i once saw a thread on this sub that said that that’s been proven to be a rumor but idk
When was he last in an episode?
14-9. Mentioned in 14-11
I miss the Bob who thinks he might have tried crack… he liked it…. A lot 😂 Seriously though “loopy dad” as Gene called him in that one episode, is my favorite unhinged form of Bob, and I feel like we don’t see him anymore
aaaAAAAHHHHHH!!! I feel like an animal! I feel like KING KONG!!!!
Get off me. Sick idiot
I love how Bob admits to trying crack and Linda totally lets it go😂
She did say they were going to try Coke together when Bob is tied under the pier and they’re trying to decipher the text 😂
Omg you’re right😂It’s so real lol
Get away from me, stupid! Go get me special pillow.
Haha yes I love him so much in "Housetrap"
These pain killers are great, should I take more? I always take more
Hey look, a mud box.
That's one of my favorite episodes lol
The interruptions. Gene interrupted Hugo attempting to speak several times in the first episode. The same joke was repeated when Jocelyn kept messing with the sodastream when the kids were talking in their ‘office’ when they were making that wooden plank toy.
WHY IS THAT WOODCHUCK YELLING AT ME!!
That bob is like Louise. He can go completely manic.
When is the last time Bob went full Louise-level crazy? I feel like it’s been quite some time tbh!
The great helicopter war
I know! He’s way too level now, nothing makes him go off anymore. I miss the anuses energy from season 1. He’s just unhinged and it’s great.
He meditates now...
I'm not freaking out! You're totally freaking out. SHUT UP!
"DON'T SAY 'FISH!'"
I lose it every time I watch Art Crawl and they do the jumpcuts to Aunt Gayle with the shrimp dress and her eating the lipstick. Like the sound effects are timelessly funny for me, especially the horn when it cuts to the shaved cat
The jump cut to the cat wearing goggles in the one where Mr Business almost gets famous is my favorite
The sexy time music lol
Omg i forgot about that and it was great
Not a bit really, but I think the Bob/Fishoeder buddy episodes work best, more focus on “star” of the show. IMO, Kevin Kline & H. Jon talent & characters work well together.
Their dynamic is just great, I always love their best friends episodes
my wonder dog is out!
Their interactions in Torpedo are my favorite
The random sexy-time music 🎶 oooh yeahhhh🎶
Louise being absolutely unhinged. After szn 3, her whole character arch softened her up
Louise : *calmly* “Andy. Ollie, come here. Listen, I’m pushing you because you’ve got talent babies. And I’m gonna take care of you. Oh, you better believe it. But first you’ve got to make some money for Mommy. Okay Babies? *looks at Devin McJim* You too Red. What’s your name Sweetheart?” Devin Mcjim : *softly* “Devin Mc J-” Louise : *screaming* “SHUT UP! IT DOESN’T MATTER! STOP TALKING! START WORKING! WORK! SHELLS GO IN THE MIDDLE! *graps a painting and turns to a customer* Here you go. A One Of a Kind Original. Help support these poor deformed orphans. 20 Bucks.” 😂😂😂
Shh. Shh! Shut your mouth. It’s art crawl!
Mamas coming back, AND SHE BETTER SEE SOME PAINTINGS!
Shells go in THE MIDDLE
Signs of a budding psycho who has watched too many late night 1970s exploitation films,…
The stewie griffin effect
I feel like the actors don’t record in the same room anymore (I think they used to) so the dialogue feels less “real” now.
I loved the inconsistent, ad-libbed, messy banter.
The ones in New York do and the ones in California do, but it's all at the same time so they hear and interact with each other. The few years during covid they all recorded at their own houses but still live with everyone. That's why it started to sound different during that time. I believe they're back to the old way.
We also need more jump scares like the kuchi kobi they threw-in in the intro for 1 episode, dont remember which 1 but i wanna say it was a halloween 1
im pretty sure it was fort nite!
That sounds about right, where they got stuck in the dumpster fort right?! Edit: It definitely was that episode, good memory!
When the screen goes red as Bob is about to loose his mind when the restaurant is closed to green mold. The scene is when they’re at jimmy pesto’s towards the end of the episode.
Omg I forgot about Bob going cross eyed when he lies. I love how Linda supports him when he decides to close his eyes so the crossing isn’t visible 😂
I watched burger boss last night and it just cracked me up, he just closes his eyes and continues with conviction 😂😂
“Look they’re crossing!” “I’ll just close them” I love them so much. It’s why I named my cats Gene and Louise ❤️
The inspectors hassling bob.
I really miss Hugo and Ron
I love the show, and I understand why they did it to an extent, but I think they took the taming down of the darker humor too far.
AGREE! I miss the dark inappropriate shit
On one hand I agree but on the other hand it’s been fun to be able to watch it with my kid in the room so I’m torn
Random lines being sung in the background. "🎶Bus from Speeeeeeeed!🎶"
The dramatic zoom
I loved that one too
Hard pass
What episodes show this? I need to know
Burger Boss, I'm p sure
The worst thing to do would be stop playing
BOBSUX
Episode where Bob had an arcade machine in his restaurant but couldn't stop playing because Jimmy Pesto typed in "Bob Sux" as the high score. Can't give you the name of the episode sadly. But I think it's also the first appearance of Darrel?
Are you DRL!? It’s pronounced Darrel.
NGL, I Sometimes have to remember that scene so I can remember if it's Darrel or Randall lol
The episode is called Burger Boss. It's one of my favorites.
gene's keyboard effects. every time I rewatch season 1 I just love the laser and fart sounds. Gene has been tamed a lot
Don't forget about Earsy Rider!
“With the crossin’!”
I miss the smiley personality Bob had in the beginning. The way he would smile and laugh alot. They slowly turned him into more grumpy and tired and dull. Which I get lol. But I liked smiley Bob. He was interesting.
Random zoom ins and jokes that would go on way to long You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee. You smell like ointment and pee.
Same! Wish they kept going with it.
I miss the "Ohhhh Yeaahhhhh" when things happened like bob with the broken spindle or Tina with.. pretty much anything.
More tina booty popping! I would say the uggghhhs but she still does it thankfully
No one can capture that uggggghhhhh like Tina. It’s just so great!
Still angry that they took "lifting up the skirt of the night" off of hulu.
Last I checked it's still there?
Yeah they wouldn’t be making that episode now days 😂😂
Not really a bit, but I wish they kept Dennis around. "A guinea pig, what is it? anyway I'm Dennis"
Louise was more unhinged before "YOU SMELL LIKE OINTMENT AND PEE!"
Lol, he really made an effort to lie. His doctor did say that him not playing burger boss was the worst thing he could do.
I miss when Louise was crazy without coming to a moment of realization and apologizing at the end.
Cut? But I clearly recall seeing this?
I guess op means one time jokes that aren't repeated but should be?
Took me most of this thread to figure that out too. Definitely is phrased like cut or removed scenes.
Right? They say Bob crosses his eyes when he lies, but I cant think of another episode where he tells lies, so idk why this joke would come back?
I don’t know for sure but I think he lies to Linda later in this episode but doesn’t cross his eyes, I could be wrong but when he lies to her about the sailing lessons him and the kids are supposedly taking when they are actually going to the arcade
Now i need to do another rewatch!!
I looked at the scene there Bob doesn’t cross his eyes but they are shifting and he is avoiding eye contact which I think is a cool detail
Always love the bobs burgers rewatch 🍔❤️
How would I know?
what do you mean "cut"?
I guess my wording was unclear, just bits they set up for one episode then didn’t continue.
OP that's perfect! That is my favorite little bit from my favorite episode! Also drugged up Bob is good stuff.
tina’s dancing
I miss the sexy music they used to play lol whenever they were getting raunchy
I miss the weird romantic music that would play randomly sometimes
Also I think it was in a few earlier episodes but especially in the episode full bars when they're scene transitions were pretty cool
I feel like recently they’ve been making the characters branch off more for episodes but i really miss just an episode of the family having one big adventure or issue together and, then maybe Gayle or Linda’s parents come in or Teddy.
When Louise use to scream like an unhinged chimpanzee
The bed and breakfast one is my favorite!!!!
Do they still have musical number episodes?
