Lol Boca Raton is not that place.
If you want to discuss whose lips are fake, whose bags are fake, whose tits are fake, and where to get the best fake lips, bags, and tits, you will feel very comfortable.
If you like sports cars, strip malls, $22 martinis, traffic, golf, and Publix, Boca is paradise.
You *might* find some like… healing crystal anti-vax “crunchy” moms in the private school parking lot?
The closest you’ll find to homesteading in Boca is private country clubs with $30+K/yr membership fees and nosey overbearing HOAs.
The only “medicine ceremonies” I’ve ever heard of are Botox parties.
It sounds like you might enjoy somewhere near the California/Arizona/Nevada border better.
Or Christiania in Copenhagen.
Or perhaps India…
(I’m being a little facetious here, there are areas of Boca that aren’t entirely like this. Heading south towards Miami you’ll find more diversity and more art-centred things, north-west towards like Wellington is a little less cosmopolitan, more focus on farms and horse stables, but it’s still known as quite a wealthy area. If it’s important to you that there’s a ~~conscientious~~ conscious community like this though, South Florida isn’t *really* the ideal place for it. Unless you have a particular reason for considering Boca, I would specifically avoid it if that’s a lifestyle that you’re interested in living. You might have more luck on the other coast of Florida where people are a little more laid back, or farther north, like St. Augustine.)
Conscious community is definitely larger around Tampa Bay, but there definitely Is a conscious community in South Florida. Delray, WPB, ft Lauderdale would be some better choices. There's a decent overlap into the kava scene too, which is just absolutely booming
For sure, I’m not local, my parents have had a place down there for almost 20 years, and as a young(er) and far more liberal (than my parents) person who spends a decent amount of time in Boca every year but doesn’t have many connections, I’m always looking for interesting things to do, places to check out, new restaurants to try, etc. so I joined this sub.
I’m a visual artist who works very closely with musicians myself, so that community is where I feel most at home. I’m less familiar with the more spiritual side of things that OP is looking for, even in my hometown, but I’ve been around enough to know where conscious communities thrive, and where they’re the fringe.
It’s not to say that these kinds of communities don’t exist at all in South Florida, but Boca itself is kind of the antithesis of everything conscious community stands for.
I suppose it depends on what OP’s motivation is for potentially moving to Boca, how important it is that they be surrounded, in some sense by conscious community, and I guess inversely, how much it might affect them to be surrounded by the opposite.
I struggle, personally. I don’t think I could live there full time.
Oh yeah I'm not trying to suggest that Boca is the focal point for such a community, just that it exists in SoFlo.
> I suppose it depends on what OP’s motivation is for potentially moving to Boca, how important it is that they be surrounded, in some sense by conscious community, and I guess inversely, how much it might affect them to be surrounded by the opposite.
And this is a good point. Whether OP wants to be surrounded by conscious community. I guess my experience so far has been that it's something I travel to experience elements of rather than being totally immersed.
To add to the downtown Lake Worth comment: we also have a million kava bars/lounges all over the place now. Some are filled with halfway house kids that want to get a buzz without failing drug tests. Others are filled with exactly the crowd you’re looking for.
Pop in to a few kava bars to hang out. I bet you find what you’re looking for. I also know there’s some drum circles on the beach but I don’t know the when or where.
If you’re considering moving to Florida from out of state I would really recommend you reconsider or at a minimum be aware of what is happening in the state.
It’s not because “we are full” or any of that nonsense but mainly the political atmosphere.
The conservatives have taken over politically and it does not look like that will change any time soon. It used to be somewhat balanced but during Covid Florida had an influx of conservatives seeking a “free” state and many liberals took the opportunity to sell their homes at a premium and move out of state. This moved the balance firmly into republican hands.
South Florida, Tampa and Orlando are still “blue”areas but democrats have zero control on the state level and the state legislature has taken more and more control away from local governments.
They have forcibly replaced the board of the only true liberal arts college in the state and replaced it with right wingers, they have instituted book bans in public schools, continue to go after any “liberal” academics, they even tried to go after Disney just for publicity stating they don’t agree with desantis “don’t say gay” bill.
Sorry this got a little long but bottom line is the state is changing and many “liberals” are leaving. Finding conscience communities in any meaningful way is going to be difficult and I can only see it getting harder. They still exist and if your looking for a temporary move you will be fine but if you’re looking for a place to settle and raise a family you may find that Florida is not ideal.
I have some friends who are artists and have large circles of people you're describing and stay more on the east coast, like Tampa, Naples. Central Florida, too. South Florida is known for fake people, inside and out.
Get you some fuckin wolf cola. The creeps and weirdos will see you guzzling it and know what’s up. Also, get a duster, rock that mother fucker with no shirt. All Jesus on the cross like. You’re welcome.
Boca is Plastic - Fantastic
Great now I have that fucking song in my head

That's not really a thing in Boca. Boca ain't Portland. WTF is kirtan anyway?
If you’re wanting to focus near Boca, Delray Beach - East Atlantic Avenue specifically - would be a good choice
Don't waste your time in Boca, if you're looking for artsy I'd recommend Lake worth and West Palm.
Thank you so much! Will begin exploring these two recs right now.

I live in Boca, but all my Love Burn )*( and Hippie friends all live in either Lakeworth or loxahatchee (WPB)..

I know, it's awesome.
All of south Florida is fake, pretentious and expensive. The community you seek is not here.
In Delray Beach: [https://cocomarket.org/](https://cocomarket.org/)
Thank you for this! Super helpful.
Go further south to Fort Lauderdale. You can find plenty there!
The oakland park / Wilton manors section of Fort Lauderdale I think is the closest you’ll find to what you are looking for.
Thank you!
I don’t think you’ll find as much of that in boca as you would other places. Boca is for lack of better terms, lame
You’re getting downvoted but I agree
We’re super full. Too many NJers lately. Try another state!
I have some friends who are artists and have large circles of people you're describing and stay more on the east coast, like Tampa, Naples. Central Florida, too. South Florida is known for fake people, inside and out.
You mean west coast, yes?
Yes, sorry, was high lol
As one should be!
There’s a cute aromatherapy store in downtown near mizner. Maybe you can ask there and get some contacts?
Thank you so much!
Just stay in NYC dude. We’re full here
Preach!
Get you some fuckin wolf cola. The creeps and weirdos will see you guzzling it and know what’s up. Also, get a duster, rock that mother fucker with no shirt. All Jesus on the cross like. You’re welcome.
There used to be a huge gathering of hippies in ocala... they called themselves the rainbow kids... not sure if still there or if it was a cult
The kind of community you are looking for is in Delray Beach, right next to Boca up North.
South Florida is the least homesteading friendly area of the country, the soil is awful for farming.
