With enough heat, if the tobacco or paper layer can combust and keep embers, it can be lit. So you could use an iron to light a cigarette.
I don't smoke, but in layman's terms, if there's enough heat to combust, it could be used, though of course, using matches or a lighter works better.
Yeah, the paper part is there to help induce heat into the tobacco, where the combustion breakdown of tobacco into its compounds takes place.
As for the Iron thing, you might be able to get it hot enough eventually, but with a large surface area, it will take a lot of heat and electrical power before you can raise the temperatures enough to combust the tobacco-exposed end of the cigarette. With a material like what's used in a common cigarette wrap, like hemp fibers, their combustion temps are 300C, and irons can burn cotton and polyesters. For tobacco to combust requires a temperature of ~700-900C, which would then be burnt by the paper envelope and allow the tobacco to essentially go through a control self-combustion due to the amount of heat in the cigarette end in such a small volume. It's also why it's a horrible idea to not have an ashtray, because those things burn extremely hot.

Though funny you said that, I was at one point going to go into Chemistry as my major from the University. However, after taking a semester of classes, I realized it really just wasn't for me. It is strict for a reason, but I noticed I just felt like crap after those classes, so I jumped ship to the Media Arts program.
For the mechanics of an atomic bomb? One I was more familiar with uses a conventional explosion to force two pieces of Uranium together, similarly to the infamous Demon Core Incident. However, I think the Implosion Method is what you're talking about.

When the bomb was detonated, the bright light caused by the mushroom explosion concentrated into the mirror and onto the tip of the cigarette lighting it for use to smoke, which he so did by accident due to him forget that it wasn’t any ordinary cigarette.

I think the Implosion model uses Plutonium, but hey, you learn stuff when you do weird stuff like looking up the combustion temperatures for cigarettes lol
