Things That trigger me 1. Glorification of Women's pain and sufferings and somehow made to be a source of pride? 2. Voyeurism- whats up with women/men behind transparent "parda" 3. Opulence in places known for rampant, backbreaking generational vicious poverty

Itchy-Corgi

This!!

hot_baker21

Also tawaifs like geisha were into entertaining guests, sexual intercourse was not the part of transaction. If she decided to take a partner, the relationship would be monogamous usually and until the days partner dies or they breakup mutually. That Richa Chaddha Character was shown in such a pathetic way,..puhleaseee..

hot_baker21

I really think there must be some messed up shit waiting to be discovered in his life. The way he portrays women is absolutely garbage.

Rue_when_was_dis

>!That rape scene!< in Heeramandi was also unnecessary and added nothing to the plot.

BarelyHuman_1010

It's the lowest form of art when someone uses these scenes for shock value.

Sendmememesplij

Worst thing about it, it didn’t even add any shock value. Neither did I empathise with the character

autummbeely

Even more outrageous was the scene after that when Bibbojaan says >!how courtesans only do things when they want to, as if we didn't see Saima being sold out forcibly by Mallikajaan and had to sell herself to two guys even though she didn't want to. She wanted to force her own daughter to become a Taiwaf against her will. Where is the free will here?!< That line felt outrageous.

ThingMaleficent1131

Right? Even Sonakshi’s ‘hriday parivartan’ after that was unnecessary.

DharmicCosmosO

True there was absolutely no need for it.

Cosmos_Redshift7

+1

Ok_nerdiness

I’m still at ep 3, when is this scene, just so I can stay prepared

Sensitivegirly123

I believe its episode 7

Overall-Ad-2159

In which episode

[deleted]

Massive waste of money. Gareebon mein baant dete paisa. Netflix India shit the bed with this one.

arju_n555

I think SLB shouldn't make series or movies about historical figures, as he only takes inspiration from their stories based solely on his personal understanding. Instead, he should create period dramas of his own, in my opinion. This way, he could focus more on the storyline, script, and realism. His themes and storyline have become repetitive of the same old North Western traditional drama, Romeo Juliet, dance sets this that. It's my pov, enlighten if I'm wrong

Draw_with_Charm

I think so too. We really need something like fantasy historical drama in Indian cinema yk they have it a lot in South korea, China even in Anime. Where they can stick to the tradition historical aesthetic while keeping it all fiction instead of ruining the actual history

arju_n555

Exactly! But that would need a heavy research and storyline. However, as a student of history, there are very spicy stories in our Indian history too, which would perfectly fit in SLB's drama and even in action.

Draw_with_Charm

Yea the only problem is, SLB just uses history for asthetic without any actual intent to show it the way it was. Which is problem of many historical movies/dramas in india. While trying to make it msasaledar, they all modify too much & for history lovers its just a huge let down. As most of the public will take that stuff for face value & run with it, without ever reading actual history & thats how you spread false info around.

arju_n555

Facts!!! Moreover, he injects his personal trauma & showcases as it's the real history.

Draw_with_Charm

Exactly, he is a great story teller but thats what he needs to do now - Come up with his own story that has nothing to do with history. So we get to see his creative work without dying a little inside for how far off it is from actual history TwT

Important-Brilliant8

And there is always physical violence on women in his movies. Either self harm or abuse. HDDCS Aish cuts herself. Devdas SRK smacks Aish’s face and bruises it. Ram Leela DPs finger is cut off. Gangubai she’s brutally assaulted. I find this extremely disturbing. Especially since all the violence is shown on women. Whether it’s glorified or not, it’s there in his movies. Hate it!

knightwrath

Not just slb but even Bollywood likes to show women as a bechaari who is a victim of circumstances.. Saheb biwi aur Ghulam se start hua and is still relevant today. Although, sita ma did give agni pariksha, it doesn't mean ki sirf a woman is supposed to subject herself to torture to prove her strength.

Old-Database-4717

HDDCS was another level. Aish saying the cut was "pyar ka pehla shagun" and kiss karne se bachche ho jaaenge😂 what in the actual fuck!!

blairsmacaroon

i think devdas hitting paro was from the book itself though it's been a while since i read it 🤔

[deleted]

Devdas hitting paro was in the actual novel tbh!!! It's an important thing showing the dynamic and emotions. At least that's what I felt reading the novel. So that scene is justified

Responsible-Bat-2699

Imagine SLB making Gangs of Wasseypur lmao. Or Vastav. If he made Vastav, he would call it "Kalpanik".

bellakayyra

SLB’s Gangs of Wasseypur. Women in jewellery sir se paun tak. Men sophisticatedly dressed even while going to a koyla khadaan. Gaaliyan nhi denge, bass tehzeeb wale lafz se replace honge. Richa Chadhha’s character will softly and elegantly say that “bhadwa saala randibaaz” dialogue to Manoj Bajpayi hooking up with a prosti - ye bhi romanticize ho jaayega. Nawaz ka “sabka badla lega tera Faizal” will have a soft, senti bckgrnd playing at the back.

Responsible-Bat-2699

Lmao

Disastrous_Affect959

DharmicCosmosO

The cinematography, Visuals, Costumes and Songs in Heeramandi were absolutely gorgeous other than that it was quite disappointing tbh.

pmphx5

I completely agree.

Prestigious-Coach-81

He literally didn't research about any of the aspects and tried to remould history

BeerAndNachosAreLife

I've been talking about this with friends recently. Also his fetishisation of prostitution as a profession is weird af.

Itchy-Corgi

So true, it’s like he is living some fetish through his movies. Irks me so much

tylerlockwoood

After watching heeramandi i am still confused of the plot bc. Ku bnai bhansali bhai ye series. 7 episodes freedan vs mallika jaan krty rahy or 8th mein bhaagi bna dia sb ko azaadi ke lia mean wtf.

garysingh91

I’m with you on Alamzeb being miscast, but what does historical accuracy have to do with the show? It’s historical _fiction_, not a documentary. Besides, I don’t watch SLB’s content for a nuanced, historically accurate portrayal. I watch it for the drama, opulent costumes and gorgeous sets.

Itchy-Corgi

It’s simple, when you are referring to a particular period of time, you show things that are relevant to it. Imagine watching a movie that is set in the 90s but they show the characters using facebook.

Ashamed_Ad7674

This!!

Labeq

Same , idc about if its true or not , romanticise or not i just love his music , cinematography ,colour pallet etc ,and i'll still watch it wether its sawaariya or heeramandi

loudechoes

I think SLB needs to retire and not make movies anymoer. Heeramandi was a waste of money, please netflix, give that money into charity or atleast movies that make a difference to the masses. heeramandi is extremely flawed, its so poorly done that every scene don't add properly to the whole story, story is a mess, choice characters make are a mess, its only all shine and glitter which is not a mess.

yeahthatweirdo

He has put alot of unnecessary stuff. If I want to watch a good movie around Tawaifs I'd anyday choose Pakeeza cause class story class acting no bullshiting about anything!
