Personally, I like the movie more, but I'm not a moody book gal. I wish I had more recs for you! The Wrinkle in Time series is pretty weird and I guess it's liminal in the sense that they're always in different universes or time periods trying to stop something, lol.
Tuck Everlasting is good for melancholy end of summer into fall vibes.
