bigboxes1

Oh really?!?

Ok-Spinach69

How do you take your crow cooked? Rare? Medium? Well done?

PuckleNuckTime

Al Dente

Ok-Spinach69

Mangia! Victory tastes good, but save room for round 2!

GxldenBxys

hahahahahahahahaha get fucked

F3L1XTH3C47

just one of many who looked soft in that game

soundcloud-twnsnd

brother , i would imagine he’s hurt , but as bad as he’s been, the entire team is not showing up the first 20 minutes these last two games. goaltending/defense has been the only thing so far that has been consistent

Big-Experience1818

Lmao literally the best player on the team. Toronto can entirely focus on shutting him down (>!If you watched the games and understand the sport this is obvious!<)and then our depth isn't good enough to carry the team on its own Yes, he can be better. No, he's not the main blame for this series if we lose it

1maco

I guess the *checks notes* coach of the Boston Bruins has no understanding of the game of hockey

Big-Experience1818

Alright go ahead and provide the quote of Monty saying the Leafs aren't focusing on Pastrnak and shutting him down

PuckleNuckTime

But he is an issue. Why does he disappear in the playoffs every season now, why can't he carry the puck, why is he a one trick pony?

Big-Experience1818

*An issue* *this* year >Why does he disappear in the playoffs every season now You're literally admitting you haven't watched the playoffs the last few years

PuckleNuckTime

Last 3 years his playoff PPG have dropped by .25 pts per game vs the previous years. I'm watching them fail every season.

mindless900

A drop like that could be partially accounted for by the higher quality opponents you are more likely to play in the post season.

Domkizzle

Pasta had 5 goal in the Florida series including a highlight reel between the legs goal. You’re just simply wrong.

PuckleNuckTime

The stats don't lie.

Big-Experience1818

And yet here you are trying to diminish 5 goals in a 7 game series with 3 goals between games 6 and 7. Super duper excited to hear you explain why we should put the most blame on the guy who scored 2 goals in game 6 rather than anyone else on the team that let in 7 goals (which includes a top 5 player in franchise history that had 0 points in both game 6 and 7) It's okay though I know you got this

PuckleNuckTime

Sure, showed up for 2 games. When something lays outside of a trend, that's what we call an ANOMALY. Let's pay JDB $11m. He outscored Pasta in the playoffs last year, and he's doing it again this year. Pasta got Jake by 2 points in '22, but he was also getting 3 more minutes per game. Considering how much more productive DeBrusk is in the playoffs than Pasta, no telling what could have happened had Jake gotten those minutes. But Debrusk is a streaky player we don't get enough of, right? He seems to be a better playoff performer to me...

Big-Experience1818

I noticed you were not capable of explaining why Pastrnak should get the most blame for last year and that you don't understand why DeBrusk doesn't get the same coverage as Pasta by the opponents Sorry Pastrnak got the GWG tonight, sending you thoughts and prayers <3

PuckleNuckTime

Of course I'm happy with the GWG, and that he finally showed up, but it's clear as a bell that his production the last 3 playoffs have been lacking. You've cited 3 games (4 now with this one) where he's showed up. He's played 4 these last 2 years. That's 72% of games he's not showing up. And don't give me "coverage," he gets $11m because he's supposed to be better than those players covering him. Instead they knock him down very easily.

Tybackwoods00

That was my favorite pasta goal he also did that against the leafs at one point too

radman888

Lol, will trade you Marner straight up

PuckleNuckTime

I'll take Nylander. No thank you on Mitch

radman888

I'd do that as well

Big-Experience1818

Imagine actually thinking Marner or Nylander are better than Pasta lmfao

PuckleNuckTime

Nylander carried an entire team last night. Pasta can't. He just lets ignorant fans make excuses for him.

vile_hog_42069

Nylander is not as good as Pasta. That’s not just somebody’s opinion, it’s an objective fact. I know you’re probably just a as frustrated as the rest of us are but pump the brakes, bud.

PuckleNuckTime

He's showing up in the playoffs, Pasta ain't.

vile_hog_42069

Well he fucking did it dude! Pasta showed the fuck up! I hope you’re feeling better. Let’s fucking go!

PuckleNuckTime

Much better. Thank you for checking :)

radman888

He showed up for part of one game. One lucky goal but at least he finally shot, and one pretty one set up by knies. Every other game he stick handles until he turns over the puck 15 times a night and acts as though checking is someone else's job

Big-Experience1818

Damn so this is your first year watching. Must really piss you off to find out he's over a point per game in the playoffs in his career (that's a fact/stat btw) If you were a fan last year you would've seen him taking over games and still losing similar to how Swayman is taking over these games this year and still losing

PuckleNuckTime

1) I just shared his last 3 years of PPG. That 1ppg career figure is heavily biased towards the beginning of this career when, he, the "elite" player, was being elevated by his linemates. Now his linemates need that in return, and it's not in his bag of tricks to achieve. 2) if you're taking over games, you're winning. So, sorry, wrong again

Remote_Breadfruit_62

Let Beecher cook

skatesofla

Shut up

saigonk

I love how people put the fact that we are near elimination on one player. The entire team is playing shitty, yes he’s not in the spotlight as usual, but he isn’t the reason why we face such an uphill battle. Let’s get rid of swayman too, he gave up an extra goal and if he hadn’t we would have tied it with .3 seconds left. /s No one is going to trade you another 10mil player for pasta who isn’t a cornerstone for their team already, let’s get out of fantasy land. Pasta has a full NMC, so we can’t just say let’s we what we can do here.

PuckleNuckTime

Call Edmonton, ask em if they want Pasta for Drasaitl. Throw in Ulmark if needed.

saigonk

Do you think Draisaital will somehow be a better result? The team overall is the issue, they all aren’t playing well. Lindholm clearing the puck was horrid, Toronto is creating a barrier around Woll. We got outplayed.

PuckleNuckTime

Yes. Elite Center that actually plays like one of the top 5 players in the league is >>>>> player just paid like he is.

saigonk

You’re being really short sighted, Pasta is a top 5 player the last two years. Trading him for anyone else isn’t going to fix that the team can’t score

RickolisH

That's not how trades work

PuckleNuckTime

Sure it is. Tell Edmonton what you want, go tell Pasta wnough's enough, we have a deal to send you to McDavid.

parkcity1998

Go home

PatheticLion

Yeah I mean he scored go ahead goals in games 6 and 7 last year but that does not fit the narrative

nope7878

Oh do those goals count for this year? Wow cool!

PuckleNuckTime

Ok, yay, do it again. I'm not sharing an "opinion" or "narrative," these be facts.

Big-Experience1818

Try understanding the sport and then get back to us

PatheticLion

This entire post is your opinion, and when presented with facts you say your opinion is facts. Hm. You say it’s a fact he has shown up in 6 straight elimination games. Well I just provided facts that he actually scored big goals in the very same games you reference. So what exactly are you on about here ?

PuckleNuckTime

It appears when everyone is scoring, and the game is ending up with 12 goals total, Pasta has 1 or 2 of them. 2-3 goal games, where is he? His playoff PPG is down in the last 3 years vs years prior when he was playing with Bergeron and Marchand, and we keep getting bounced early. Why does an $11m player need elite linemates to stand out and alter games. He's a top 10 contract in the league, why can't he elevate the PPG performance of his linemates, and instead needs them to elevate his? There. stats.

Big-Experience1818

How many more points did Pasta have than the next best player on the team this year? >!43!< What exactly would happen then when the playoffs come around and the opponents focus entirely on shutting down a player like him? Let me know if you need an ELI5 for that (or a definition of the word "stats")

PuckleNuckTime

I don't, I see your point. It's a bad one, because, again... $11m to disappear and not elevate teammates, but it is a point.

Rod-Par

Why did he have to shave :(

HugeSuccess

We need Punished “Venom” Pasta

Hootshire

Elite shot when everything is set up for him. Big liability everywhere else on the ice.

WhoNoseMarchand

A reminder that his only 2 goals scored this series were only possible because of great plays by his teammates. Zacha with an incredible no look behind the back backhand and Marchand with an incredible solo effort and pass that your grandfather could tap in.

bjb406

Isn't that basically always the case in hockey? It's a team sport and basically all goals ever scored are when the team has worked together to get 1 man in front of the net with no defender in front of him.

WhoNoseMarchand

It would be different if Pasta was setting up his teammates on the ice for success, but he turns the puck over any time he's the guy carrying it on the rush.

snaapshot

I want Stamkos

snaapshot

lol downvoted because I like a player that would fill a specific need. Not saying it’s realistic, I like stamkos as a player.

ZakkCat

Cannot have him

pilatesfarter

Draisaitl is interested in being 1C on the bruins

mariehelena

😍

KingGoldar

You know stamkos is completely washed right?

snaapshot

You didn't watch the Florida series eh?

Vo0d0oT4c0

Stammer had 1.02 points per a game this season compared to his career average of 1.05. Completely washed is a bad statement. Out of his prime for sure but he has another 2-3 good seasons.

PuckleNuckTime

I'm not in Summer GM mode yet. Hopefully over a week away.

Dank_Cthulhu

I think I'd trade him regardless of what happens in G7. He's a very limited player and damn near a liability whenever he's not taking a one shot.

KingGoldar

They aren't in the playoffs without him they have 28 mil in cap space next year. Surround him with real centers and run it back

nope7878

Who cares if they're in the playoffs with him if they keep choking in the first two rounds every year? These early collapses make the regular season feel meaningless

Dank_Cthulhu

And we'll continue the same result I'm afraid. At this point after the futility of the last few years I'd prefer to tear it down to the studs and rebuild it completely. Ship out Pastrnak, McAvoy, Ullmark and basically everyone else who isn't one of the kids like Poitras or Lorei. The only major piece besides Swayman that I'd retain is Marchand simply to let him retire a Bruin.

KingGoldar

Such a dramatic overreaction. Get Pasta some real wingers and shore up the defense with some studs.

Dank_Cthulhu

I guess we just want different things. I don't want playoff failure year after year. For all of the talent this franchise has had over the past 30ish years I've watched they'rve grossly underachieved. I for one, would like another cup.

KingGoldar

Jacobs family curse my friend. 2011 was but a mirage

Aggressive-Panic-719

He looks bewildered on the ice at times it’s bizarre. I’m not sure if he is injured or has something personal going on, but he looks off a little bit. Maybe they can pair him with Zacha for a few shifts to see if they can get each other going. It’s game 7 these players need to bring their A game because if not all their hard work on and off the ice will have no pay off

KingGoldar

I think he injured his knee on that shot block

WhoNoseMarchand

The one that he blocked because of his own turnover at his own blue line? Only half way trying to be snarky because I did give him credit for righting his own wrong after the play. Genuinely curious though.

KingGoldar

Yes that play. It didn't look like the shot itself did but the weird twist.

mythoughtson-this

Why was he so garbage before that then? He’s borderline useless in the playoffs unless he’s taking one timers from the left circle

KingGoldar

Hmmm maybe because very team knows he's the only offensive threat so they swarm him out and the rest of the bruins still can't do anything despite Pasta drawing a double team every time he draws the puck. You don't play hockey

mythoughtson-this

Then maybe he should make a play. I’ve played hockey for more than 25 years. The best players make plays in the playoffs regardless of being swarmed or not. Pastrnak is a weak skater who is weak on the puck. If he’s as good as you’re making him out to be he would find the open guy.

KingGoldar

You wouldn't be able to knock him off the puck tough guy. Imagine calling an NHL player a weak skater and weak on the puck. Stick to the D league

mythoughtson-this

Jesus Christ man, for NHL standards he is a weak skater and weak on the puck. Because I don’t play in the NHL doesn’t mean I can’t criticize the fact that he turns the puck over and falls down far too often

GianForni22

Of course I agree with everyone else that Pasta hasn’t been good this series and he needs to step up otherwise our chances look grim, with that being said to pretend he’s constantly a no show and a choke artist in the playoffs is ridiculous to me, he was actually one of the few to show up when the ship was sinking last year (I know most of y’all decided to forget what happened during those games except that Bertuzzi was good, I get it, I did it too for a time as a defense mechanism) I understand that we are all upset and it’s painful to see the team in a similar situation as last year but the roads leading to this point have certainly been different.

BeckettMariner

I know this is not constructive but man the “Pasta is the problem” narrative is so fucking stupid.

mythoughtson-this

I think the problem is that Pastrnak isn’t as good as they need him to be. There are about 15 or 20 guys you would be better off with in the playoffs and that’s really frustrating from such a great goalscorer.

KingGoldar

He needs a real center to set him up and he doesn't have that. The team isn't built well around him because Sweeny never drafted him

mythoughtson-this

He shouldn’t need a center to make his line good if he’s as good as he’s portrayed to be. He’s paid like he should be carrying a line. Think prime Patrick Kane. That’s what he’s paid to do and he doesn’t

KingGoldar

Prime Patrick Kane had Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp the whole time he was prime. Try again

mythoughtson-this

The Blackhawks were always at their best when Kane and Toews played separately so they could play them together situationally. Having a legit #1 center would absolutely help but I don’t think he needs to be on Pasta’s line.

KingGoldar

It would be nice if they even had a #2 center which they don't. Zacha has 0 goals in 18 playoff games

mythoughtson-this

Fair enough, the center position is a much bigger issue than Pastrnak. Ultimately, I think the team is too reliant on Pastrnak, but that’s due to other roster issues that are far worse than his performance.

KingGoldar

I agree. I think they didn't put the right pieces around him so that he can be effective as he can be. He may be a robin and a needs a batman like mcdavid and draisaitl. He is no one man show player

mythoughtson-this

100% the lack of support around him makes his flaws more obvious. His play style is similar to Ovechkin’s who also had trouble in the postseason for years. Fantastic players but don’t drive play the same way Crosby and McDavid do.

KingGoldar

Bruins fans have never been used to having a high end offensive player before. They think the big bad bruin player is the only way when in reality that way of thinking has delivered one single cup in 52 years. They also can't see that his teammates aren't opening up any ice for him. Every team knows he's the only scoring threat so they double team at every chance

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

This is the best comment on this thread.

KingGoldar

A winger without a good center is like a QB without an Offensive Line

treemister1

As is tradition without playoff pasta

leafer89

Taveras OP , you said it no takesies backsies. Fine we will be nice Mitch. But no more!

Puzzleheaded-Bat4777

If you guys think pasta is the problem with this team... Don't really have much for you lol they have Pavel zacha and charilie coyle as their top two centers...our offense has been up and down this year because of low skill overall. The one guy who has produced consistently has been pasta. The team is not very good guys, they over achieved this year. If they get bounced in the first? Ya thats about where they should be. I saw this all year playing 20 ot games, blowing leads or whatever. It just sucks they went up 3-1 😄

maxefontes2

You’re missing the issue. Pastranak is supposed to be one of a very small handful of players that is NOT the problem. He’s been one of many problems in these last two losses. The offense isn’t particularly good, but neither is the Toronto defense. I also saw this all year, they aren’t cup contenders, but they also shouldn’t be bad enough to blow this 3-1 lead against Toronto.

Puzzleheaded-Bat4777

Oh ya, he has for sure not played well the past two games...I don't get calling out pasta in the media. Like this is his problem. Maybe we could a win face off or puck battle. Nah our centers don't want to do that. Its a desperate move by a coach who fucked with the line up after winning...guy started a hurt ullmark against Florida last year too. I can't believe david and bergy ran bruce out of town for being an asshole or not being a players coach.

Suspicious_Bend9419

This is what you get when u draft like shit and do nothing to help the team at the trade deadline Pat M was useless honestly lucic can skate past that guy haha this team is in real trouble have 1 decent line some real holes in the D only strong part of this team is the goalies thank God for them Sweeny and Neely time to move on!! Maybe I am just pissed that another year and another year they are going to blow a 3-1 lead wtf

madmariner7

I think I get what you’re saying, but punctuation is your friend.

Suspicious_Bend9419

Touché haha

lego6971

Zacha and Coyle as well they all disappear in playoffs it's fucking ridiculous

treemister1

Also Marchand is incredibly disappointing this series

BasedTelvanni

8 points in 6 games my friend. He's 100% not the problem.

KingGoldar

Marchand was brilliant dare I say genius at the start of the series. The last two games he's been awful and no one will admit it because of how good he was earlier in the series

JTx78

Swayman is definitely the issue.... How could he let a 5 hole goal in!!!

maxefontes2

Series? No. Games 5 and 6? Definitely.

lightninvolz

Idk how you can say that. Marchand has felt like the only real leader on the ice. Since Keefe bitched & moaned the league/refs have obliged. The penalties in the last two games against him were bullocks. You need to be the loudest sore loser to compete in the modern game, it's pathetic

LEAF_-4

He's lucky he's not suspended for pushing the ref tbh

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Zacha and Coyle are showing you exactly what they are. Nice second and third line centers. They have overperformed this year. And that’s not a knock on them, that’s just what it is. You cannot lose 60% of faceoffs and then hope your wingers can produce points.

No_Mas2001

Some of the faceoff losses can be handed to the wingers they haven’t been doing a good job battling on the draw. But they’re still ass at faceoffs last two games

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

Yeah that’s where coaching comes in too. Abandon your faceoff plays because you’re not winning them. Just crash the dot

efox

Doesn't seem fair to lump Coyle in with Zacha in the context of these playoffs. Coyle has been working his ass off, and is one of the few guys out there who's managing any puck possession or shots on goal. Zacha, on the other hand, had an excellent regular season but has been invisible in the playoffs. 0 shots on goal last night, 0 goals in 18 career playoff games. He and Pasta need to get their shit together.

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

I’m sorry man, but when you’re the 1C you’re going to get exposed like this. It comes with the territory. Coyle has had flashes but he’s been largely a nothing in this series. He hasn’t won any matchups and he hasn’t facilitated any offense. He’s only just started shooting. Even had a chance to put the game away in Game 5 but didn’t.

08wasGreat

It feels like all of our production has been Marchand and the bottom 6.

treemister1

And even marchy is fucking up way too often at critical moments

Whworm

Debrusk was playing his ass off last night too. No results on the score sheet, but he was getting the puck towards the net. He looked better than the rest of them.

KingBuck_413

JDB is another player that can turn it on and shut it off almost like it’s just a job to him. Frustrating because he has the talent, if he played for Edmonton they would get him switched on probably 90% of the time.

No_Mas2001

It’s almost like playing hockey is their job 🤯

The--Marf

He seemed like he was everywhere man. Great effort from him.

08wasGreat

Yeah, he’s been flying and had those two big goals early in the series.

shawnglade

I always feel so conflicted about Pasta. Yes he puts pucks in nets and is a top player in the league, but my god, go watch him in person or whenever he has the puck, and he basically averages a turnover per shift. He plays too casually sometimes and it doesn’t work. I love him so much but he needs to actually look like he’s trying. He glides 90% of his shift, pulls off a fancy move to beat a defender, then turns it over. That’s his average shift

dahl777

He lead the league in turnovers this year, but that is usually indicative of players who have the puck on their stick a lot. If you look at the other league leaders they all have either been or are currently the best players in the league. The issue with pasta is that he doesn't try and change his game at all in the playoffs where time and space are more limited and single man possession plays are fewer and more difficult. It's been the same story for the last 5 years since he fully came into his own as a star player

KingGoldar

I think it's more of Don Sweeny not building correctly around him. You need guys creating space for players like pasta. He may be a robin and just needs his batman like mcdavid and draisaitl. Every team knows pasta is their only true goal scoring threat and they just swarm him.

dahl777

The issue with that is they have put a ton of players to play with him and the only player that has really consistently gelled with him is krejci. He needs players that cover his weaknesses more than he needs players that help his strengths. Krejci just happened to be awesome at both those things. One of the most underrated players away from the puck which is immense when it comes to a puck dominant player like pasta

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

Name a star with a worse supporting cast. Pastrnak plays with Heinen and Geekie over half of the time. It’s absurd.

whoisbill

I'm not saying Pasta doesn't need to step up, he does. But when he's really your only offensive threat it's real fucking easy for other teams to just shut him down. The PP? The puck is going to pasta, every single time. Teams know it. Teams block the shot.

Traditional-Maize937

You don't blow a 3-1 series lead because of one player, even a goalie would be taken out the lineup if they had two bad games. If you need one player specifically to score goals or you can't win guess what? Your team is not good.

whoisbill

That is correct. And offensively. We are not. It's real easy for teams in a 7 game series to figure us out and shut us down. And the leafs have done that.

Ok-Spinach69

Failure to play 100% for 60 mins.

Future-Turtle

For 59 min 59.9 sec.

magnificentmucus

Even though it didn’t matter I was happy that last shot counted

Ok-Spinach69

Full 60 baby!

kingcaptainclutch

A lot of this I think comes down to the Bruins’ horrible transition play, inability to win face offs and lack of physicality. How many times have we seen Pasta try to enter the zone and immediately get bodied? He needs better support around him and the team needs serious changes in both personnel and coaching strategy. I’m not ready to put it all on Pasta.

Poohstrnak

It’s a little of everything, honestly. Bruins have been horrible in transition, horrible on the forecheck, and horrible at maintaining possession in the O zone. On top of that, the defense has been absolutely atrocious at getting pucks out of their own end. Mcavoy is really the only one that’s played “okay”. I would agree pasta needs to come through and play like himself, but also can’t really do that as long as the rest of the team plays like they’re ready for golf season.

kingcaptainclutch

Yeah Mcavoy has been awesome. He’s been aggressive and physical and that’s when he’s at his best. Only guy I don’t want to cast into the sun rn lol

Sliney89

I would say that this is both accurate, and unfair. Yes you absolutely need more from the highest paid player on your team. But at the end of the day he signed the contract he was offered, and that’s not his fault. Pasta has the 6th highest cap hit in the league, so by proxy you should expect him to be the 6th most impactful player in the league. That simply hasn’t been the case this series. In the past he has had a greater impact, and I’d say that the supporting cast this year being lesser, affects him more. When we had the ability to roll Coyle and Hall out on the 3rd line, it forces other teams to constantly defend and Pasta could take advantage. Simply put, whatever we deploy right now isn’t going to be able to do that on a consistent basis. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Pasta produces better on the nights that we also get secondary scoring. Ultimately, this was always going to be a bridge year, and some regression was likely across the board, so we shouldn’t be letting our expectations change solely with the situation. Yes the lack of “clutch” in this group is concerning. That’s what we need to address with all the cap this off-season if finding guys who A. Always Have a little more to give in the playoffs B. Guys who force teams to defend the bottom 6. So yes Pasta needs to be better, but so does everyone.

snowyphotographer

Well said. Roster composition was always going to be the issue this season. And now here we are. The irony is that so many fans wouldn't have blinked an eye if the B's missed the playoffs because that's what we all were expecting. But because they made it, and are now threatening to blow it, we're at full panic, fire everyone mode. Make it make sense.

xlf77

Actually reading the article and Jesus Christ Fluto is such an awful writer. Not even disagreeing with his main points or anything, but just his writing has gotten so amateurish. Half his articles are just memes now. “Their golf clubs are one loss away from coming out”. He literally said “Marchand has a penthouse apartment in the leafs heads” a couple days ago, like Jesus Christ grow the fuck up and write like a professional and not some reddit jerk off i.e. me

VastFondant2657

He’s basically the only beat guy who has the balls to write that article. For that reason alone he’s better than most.

xlf77

I mean can you find me a single article that doesn’t have Pastrnak in the crosshairs right now? And can you tell me if those also read like they were written by a 16 year old?

VastFondant2657

Are they mentioning Pasta has been shut down the last few games or are they writing articles specifically focused on his shortcomings? Fairly big difference.

xlf77

I mean there’s a lot of overlap there but Fluto is pretty much only doing the former here

VastFondant2657

The article is specifically about a specific players poor play. There’s not a lot of beat guys that are turning that into their editor anymore. That’s what I appreciate. The media holding the team/individuals to the fire is part of what makes Boston the best sports town in the country and the most recent crop of beat guys across all four major sports or more and more afraid to do that.

xlf77

Okay you can think that but I’m telling you I can find several other articles and snippets criticizing Pastrnak this series. It just feels less biting because those guys don’t pack their articles full of simply epic awesomesauce meme-pilled catchphrases

VastFondant2657

Yes, they do. They all write like cringy Reddit dipshits now. And, as I said, no one else is dedicating an article to it. They are too afraid to piss people off and lose their “access”.

xlf77

Crazy how I’ve already read several articles today that do exactly that without sounding like a child but yup whatever you say

PuckleNuckTime

That's kind of the way sports writing has trended in recent years. Pandering to the lower class, shorter attention span fans. Have to compete with the Podcast Bros and McAfee wanna be's now. But I agree, I pay up for the Athletic, I should get a better brand of writing; which he is absolutely capable of.

xlf77

Idk I read a fairly wide variety of hockey writers and none of them are half as bad as Fluto. Again I’m not taking exception with his takes or analysis of the game, I think he knows the game well. But just from a technical standpoint half his articles make me want to puke

GeraltOfMastodon

This fanbase will drive Pastrnak away and he'll win a cup elsewhere because he'll get to play with an actual first line center

CoffinFlop

Yeah this is one thing that’s driving me nuts. I fully agree pasta needs to step it up, but like idk maybe one reason his production is down is because zacha is literally losing every single fucking faceoff? What is pasta going to do when his center can’t win an offensive zone faceoff even once? lol And I say this as probably the biggest zacha fan ever, I love the dude. But goddamn man

PuckleNuckTime

I might be ok with that. There's obvious flaws in his game, and it's clear he's not making his teammates better. He's worth a King's ransom. Do we cash in on that and start again, or risk going into every season hoping we "did enough to support Pasta." Sounds like what the Capitals did for Ovi. Only took, what, 15 years to get him his cup?

GeraltOfMastodon

We'll never get a player as talented as him ever again (likely). And what more could he have done in games 6 and 7 last year? It's not his fault he has either Zacha (0 goals in 18 playoff games) or Geekie (4th liner) as his centers. It seems like Marner, Nylander, Drai, McDavid, Mackinnon, Tkachuk, etc. all get elite level support. Why doesn't Pasta?

moof2

I watched Tkachuk run rampant on us last year with Sam Bennett and Nick Cousins as his linemates. Two third-liners at best. Still noticed him every god damn time he was out on the ice. Pasta will score on an odd man rush and then disappear for 30 minutes. But hey, still a point a game!!!

PuckleNuckTime

We will. Players are far more skilled today than they were of yesteryear. It's all about crazy skill and speed at the lower levels now. There will be more McDavids and Bedards coming. They're not getting blasted consistently anymore.

GeraltOfMastodon

Lmao this isn't even factually correct. Look at recent drafts, top picks have been more likely to be flops than not. Pastrnak is their best pure offensively player since....Neely?

PuckleNuckTime

I'd argue Seguin had the same ceiling. Injuries derailed him a bit. Plus, he was a center, so he gets a +1 over Pasta there. And it's not incorrect. Look at the influx of talent over the last decade.

gjc0703

Pasta was at his best during the years of the “perfection line”. That line, obviously was ferocious. Their forecheck and their cycle was dangerous and almost unbeatable. Now I’m saying that with a clear mind that those three together were magic. And that’s hard to replicate. But he doesn’t quite stand on his own anymore. He gets his ass whooped, especially in the playoffs. And a lot of us have said this over the past few years, and it gets this subreddits panties all in a bunch, but his inability to carry the puck, and his constant turnovers are absolutely brutal and costly. I’ve said it before, and I stand by it, pasta should not be allowed to carry in neutral zone, and ESPECIALLY not anywhere near a blue line. He needs to evolve and earn his $12 million a year.

JesterXO

I love pasta, but he only does 2 things really well, putting pucks in the net, and putting pucks on other players sticks. He does one of these way more consistently than the other and any time i see him attempt to ever the zone carrying the puck my sphincter could crack a marble...

BlueberryBarbell

He is so overdue for a statement game. He’s getting knocked down pretty easily and the shots he’s taking are not exactly threatening.

leafie4321

As a leafs (peaceful) fan, idk why I keep getting Bruins posts on my home feed...but it's fascinating the parallels between our fan bases. We're both broken and frustrated fan bases. After game 5, leafs nation had Marner on a rocket ship aimed at the sun. Wanna trade Marner for Pasta lol? In all seriousness though, yeah he's getting pushed around and doesn't seem as dangerous as he normally is. I would've never expected to see that. Whenever he or DeBrusk have the puck I get very uncomfortable - they always look dangerous.

Touche_Amore

It’s because the Reddit official app sucks ass. On the real though, I think it must be due to some algorithm like IG or YouTube. You click on one thing that mentions the Bruins, they assume you want MORE! It’s really strange.

Mirkrid

If you’re on the official app it’s because you’ve clicked on a post in this sub or a similar sub recently. I’m in the same boat, actually clicked this thinking it would be on r/hockey. I’ve been frequenting the leafs / hockey subs for the past 2 weeks and now a quarter of my home feed is from other teams’ subs “because I’ve recently visited a similar community” or whatever. Really dumb “feature” – I want my home feed to be **my** home feed, not a concoction of 75% my feed + 25% posts Reddit thinks I’ll like (which recently are mostly other teams dunking on the Leafs in their own subs, which is actually kinda funny). I miss Apollo, the official app blows *edit:* me commenting here probably signed me up for another week of Bruins posts haha

PuckleNuckTime

Idk about Marner, I don't know if he has the constitution I want. Nylander I'll take though. 1:1 with Pasta, I'm down.

leafie4321

You're right, you don't want that for 11mil. Marner is a good player but is soft and overpaid for what he is. As an outsider, Pasta is very much worth what he's getting paid even if he's had a rough couple games. He's going to the hard areas and trying to make things happen.

PuckleNuckTime

You're just being nice because he keeps handing the puck over to your boys :)

iKrazie

I get shit all the time when I say anything bad about our Lord and Savior "Pasta" He's a winger, not a center, he never deserbed the contract they gave him, and this is where it hurts. Pasta and Bergy merged equates to that "elite" status like McDavid, Matthews, and Tkachuk. Why? Because those guys win fuckin faceoffs and have the speed and puck handling to get the job done. Pasta has fumblefucked around 30% of the time he has had the puck this post season. He was paid for the "future of the team" not for his track record of a great playoff presence, he always does this in the post and I'm sick of being told he doesn't.

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

Lol putting Tkachuk alongside Matthews and McDavid is hilarious and proved you have no idea what you’re talking about.

iKrazie

Did.....you watch last year's post season? Tkafuck was easily one of our biggest issues, I'm not commending him, I'm recognizing that he provides a core element that the bruins are missing. Good try though kid

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

Tkachuk isn’t a center lmao

iKrazie

Hear, let me spell this out for you. Tkachuk is paid the amount he deserves. Pasta is overpaid. Tkachuk is outperforming Pasta in the postseason, and it's ridiculous because of the amount of money Pasta is paid. Does that make sense?

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

Tkachuk lost in the finals. Got demolished actually

iKrazie

You think the bruins wouldn't have had the same outcome? What does your point have to do with Pasta being overpaid?

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

Everyone heralds Florida last season as if they won the cup. They made it to the finals and got their teeth kicked in. Tkachuk has the reputation of a bigger winner and they lost their SCF elimination game by like 7 goals lmao

YungLo97

Tkachuk plays with significantly better players than Pastrnak.

iKrazie

Does nobody have critical thinking skills? Or I have to spell everything out? This is impossible. How do we surround Pasta with the "better players" if we're paying too much to him? Your point disproves your argument.

YungLo97

Do you not have critical thinking skills? Look at every elite team there is. They all have multiple players on huge money contracts. Toronto is a perfect example. The problem is that elite players are rarely available and the best way to get them is to draft them. This past offseason we had zero cap room to do anything. This upcoming offseason there will be ample cap room to improve the team. There won’t be any #1 centers but there will be chances to improve the squad.

Rakastaakissa

Sounds like you’re saying he needs a top line center and the team doesn’t have one

iKrazie

I'm saying he's getting paid the same or more as league wide top centers and it's ridiculous

Confident-Condition2

Pasta not Al dente!!

BornInABathtub

Some overcooked, moist noodles 😩

BL_RogueExplorer

They just looks slow in comparison to most teams. Anytime another team decides to play tight/in your face defense then the team struggles. The only time they look dominant is when teams decide to give them space and play more zone style defense.

flowersoflight

Yep. Happened with Tampa, Carolina, Islanders, Florida, and now Toronto. If there’s any kind of congestion up the middle they can’t seem to generate anything.

Andtom33

This x1000

theitgrunt

The boys need to be able to string two good passes together in any 3 zones to get that going... I'm amazed how Toronto is out-forechecking the B's.

jcal9

Are we sure Pasta is fully healthy? Since he took that shot to the knee he looks off, a little slower than usual, and sloppy on the puck. Not excusing it, but I do wonder if there's something physical going on.

springboard-diver

If Pasta's playing hurt, I'm not sure Monty would be calling him out the way he did

addictedtothatass

I’ve said this in a few threads now, HE DOES THIS EVERY YEAR! He has had two good playoff years, 2018 and 2019. He is not built for the playoffs.
