Considering how much more productive DeBrusk is in the playoffs than Pasta, no telling what could have happened had Jake gotten those minutes.

Of course I'm happy with the GWG, and that he finally showed up, but it's clear as a bell that his production the last 3 playoffs have been lacking. You've cited 3 games (4 now with this one) where he's showed up. He's played 4 these last 2 years.
That's 72% of games he's not showing up. And don't give me "coverage," he gets $11m because he's supposed to be better than those players covering him. Instead they knock him down very easily.

1) I just shared his last 3 years of PPG. That 1ppg career figure is heavily biased towards the beginning of this career when, he, the "elite" player, was being elevated by his linemates.

You say it’s a fact he has shown up in 6 straight elimination games. Well I just provided facts that he actually scored big goals in the very same games you reference. So what exactly are you on about here ?
It appears when everyone is scoring, and the game is ending up with 12 goals total, Pasta has 1 or 2 of them.
2-3 goal games, where is he?
His playoff PPG is down in the last 3 years vs years prior when he was playing with Bergeron and Marchand, and we keep getting bounced early.
Why does an $11m player need elite linemates to stand out and alter games. He's a top 10 contract in the league, why can't he elevate the PPG performance of his linemates, and instead needs them to elevate his?

A reminder that his only 2 goals scored this series were only possible because of great plays by his teammates. Zacha with an incredible no look behind the back backhand and Marchand with an incredible solo effort and pass that your grandfather could tap in.
Isn't that basically always the case in hockey? It's a team sport and basically all goals ever scored are when the team has worked together to get 1 man in front of the net with no defender in front of him.
It would be different if Pasta was setting up his teammates on the ice for success, but he turns the puck over any time he's the guy carrying it on the rush.
Stammer had 1.02 points per a game this season compared to his career average of 1.05. Completely washed is a bad statement. Out of his prime for sure but he has another 2-3 good seasons.
Who cares if they're in the playoffs with him if they keep choking in the first two rounds every year?

Of course I agree with everyone else that Pasta hasn’t been good this series and he needs to step up otherwise our chances look grim, with that being said to pretend he’s constantly a no show and a choke artist in the playoffs is ridiculous to me, he was actually one of the few to show up when the ship was sinking last year (I know most of y’all decided to forget what happened during those games except that Bertuzzi was good, I get it, I did it too for a time as a defense mechanism)
I understand that we are all upset and it’s painful to see the team in a similar situation as last year but the roads leading to this point have certainly been different.
I think the problem is that Pastrnak isn’t as good as they need him to be. There are about 15 or 20 guys you would be better off with in the playoffs and that’s really frustrating from such a great goalscorer.
He shouldn’t need a center to make his line good if he’s as good as he’s portrayed to be. He’s paid like he should be carrying a line. Think prime Patrick Kane. That’s what he’s paid to do and he doesn’t
The Blackhawks were always at their best when Kane and Toews played separately so they could play them together situationally.
Having a legit #1 center would absolutely help but I don’t think he needs to be on Pasta’s line.

100% the lack of support around him makes his flaws more obvious. His play style is similar to Ovechkin’s who also had trouble in the postseason for years. Fantastic players but don’t drive play the same way Crosby and McDavid do.
Bruins fans have never been used to having a high end offensive player before. They think the big bad bruin player is the only way when in reality that way of thinking has delivered one single cup in 52 years. They also can't see that his teammates aren't opening up any ice for him. Every team knows he's the only scoring threat so they double team at every chance

Don't really have much for you lol they have Pavel zacha and charilie coyle as their top two centers...our offense has been up and down this year because of low skill overall. The one guy who has produced consistently has been pasta. The team is not very good guys, they over achieved this year. If they get bounced in the first? Ya thats about where they should be. I saw this all year playing 20 ot games, blowing leads or whatever. It just sucks they went up 3-1 😄
You’re missing the issue. Pastranak is supposed to be one of a very small handful of players that is NOT the problem. He’s been one of many problems in these last two losses. The offense isn’t particularly good, but neither is the Toronto defense. I also saw this all year, they aren’t cup contenders, but they also shouldn’t be bad enough to blow this 3-1 lead against Toronto.
Oh ya, he has for sure not played well the past two games...I don't get calling out pasta in the media. Like this is his problem. Maybe we could a win face off or puck battle. Zacha and Coyle are showing you exactly what they are. Nice second and third line centers. They have overperformed this year. And that’s not a knock on them, that’s just what it is. You cannot lose 60% of faceoffs and then hope your wingers can produce points.
Some of the faceoff losses can be handed to the wingers they haven’t been doing a good job battling on the draw. But they’re still ass at faceoffs last two games
Doesn't seem fair to lump Coyle in with Zacha in the context of these playoffs. Coyle has been working his ass off, and is one of the few guys out there who's managing any puck possession or shots on goal.
Zacha, on the other hand, had an excellent regular season but has been invisible in the playoffs. 0 shots on goal last night, 0 goals in 18 career playoff games. He and Pasta need to get their shit together.
I’m sorry man, but when you’re the 1C you’re going to get exposed like this. It comes with the territory. Coyle has had flashes but he’s been largely a nothing in this series. He hasn’t won any matchups and he hasn’t facilitated any offense. He’s only just started shooting. Even had a chance to put the game away in Game 5 but didn’t.
Debrusk was playing his ass off last night too. No results on the score sheet, but he was getting the puck towards the net. He looked better than the rest of them.
JDB is another player that can turn it on and shut it off almost like it’s just a job to him. Frustrating because he has the talent, if he played for Edmonton they would get him switched on probably 90% of the time.
I always feel so conflicted about Pasta. Yes he puts pucks in nets and is a top player in the league, but my god, go watch him in person or whenever he has the puck, and he basically averages a turnover per shift. He plays too casually sometimes and it doesn’t work.
I love him so much but he needs to actually look like he’s trying. He glides 90% of his shift, pulls off a fancy move to beat a defender, then turns it over. That’s his average shift
He lead the league in turnovers this year, but that is usually indicative of players who have the puck on their stick a lot. If you look at the other league leaders they all have either been or are currently the best players in the league. The issue with pasta is that he doesn't try and change his game at all in the playoffs where time and space are more limited and single man possession plays are fewer and more difficult. It's been the same story for the last 5 years since he fully came into his own as a star player
I think it's more of Don Sweeny not building correctly around him. You need guys creating space for players like pasta. He may be a robin and just needs his batman like mcdavid and draisaitl. Every team knows pasta is their only true goal scoring threat and they just swarm him.
The issue with that is they have put a ton of players to play with him and the only player that has really consistently gelled with him is krejci. He needs players that cover his weaknesses more than he needs players that help his strengths. Krejci just happened to be awesome at both those things. One of the most underrated players away from the puck which is immense when it comes to a puck dominant player like pasta
I'm not saying Pasta doesn't need to step up, he does. But when he's really your only offensive threat it's real fucking easy for other teams to just shut him down. The PP? The puck is going to pasta, every single time. Teams know it. Teams block the shot.
You don't blow a 3-1 series lead because of one player, even a goalie would be taken out the lineup if they had two bad games.

That is correct. And offensively. We are not. It's real easy for teams in a 7 game series to figure us out and shut us down. And the leafs have done that.
A lot of this I think comes down to the Bruins’ horrible transition play, inability to win face offs and lack of physicality. How many times have we seen Pasta try to enter the zone and immediately get bodied? He needs better support around him and the team needs serious changes in both personnel and coaching strategy. I’m not ready to put it all on Pasta.
It’s a little of everything, honestly. Bruins have been horrible in transition, horrible on the forecheck, and horrible at maintaining possession in the O zone. On top of that, the defense has been absolutely atrocious at getting pucks out of their own end. Mcavoy is really the only one that’s played “okay”.
I would agree pasta needs to come through and play like himself, but also can’t really do that as long as the rest of the team plays like they’re ready for golf season.
I would say that this is both accurate, and unfair. Yes you absolutely need more from the highest paid player on your team. But at the end of the day he signed the contract he was offered, and that’s not his fault.
Pasta has the 6th highest cap hit in the league, so by proxy you should expect him to be the 6th most impactful player in the league. That simply hasn’t been the case this series.
In the past he has had a greater impact, and I’d say that the supporting cast this year being lesser, affects him more. When we had the ability to roll Coyle and Hall out on the 3rd line, it forces other teams to constantly defend and Pasta could take advantage.
Simply put, whatever we deploy right now isn’t going to be able to do that on a consistent basis. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Pasta produces better on the nights that we also get secondary scoring.
Ultimately, this was always going to be a bridge year, and some regression was likely across the board, so we shouldn’t be letting our expectations change solely with the situation. Yes the lack of “clutch” in this group is concerning. That’s what we need to address with all the cap this off-season if finding guys who
A. Always Have a little more to give in the playoffs
B. Guys who force teams to defend the bottom 6.
So yes Pasta needs to be better, but so does everyone.

The article is specifically about a specific players poor play. There’s not a lot of beat guys that are turning that into their editor anymore. That’s what I appreciate. The media holding the team/individuals to the fire is part of what makes Boston the best sports town in the country and the most recent crop of beat guys across all four major sports or more and more afraid to do that.

I watched Tkachuk run rampant on us last year with Sam Bennett and Nick Cousins as his linemates. Two third-liners at best. Still noticed him every god damn time he was out on the ice. Pasta will score on an odd man rush and then disappear for 30 minutes. But hey, still a point a game!!!

Pasta was at his best during the years of the “perfection line”. That line, obviously was ferocious. Their forecheck and their cycle was dangerous and almost unbeatable. Now I’m saying that with a clear mind that those three together were magic. And that’s hard to replicate. But he doesn’t quite stand on his own anymore. He gets his ass whooped, especially in the playoffs.
And a lot of us have said this over the past few years, and it gets this subreddits panties all in a bunch, but his inability to carry the puck, and his constant turnovers are absolutely brutal and costly. I’ve said it before, and I stand by it, pasta should not be allowed to carry in neutral zone, and ESPECIALLY not anywhere near a blue line.
He needs to evolve and earn his $12 million a year.

Marner is a good player but is soft and overpaid for what he is. As an outsider, Pasta is very much worth what he's getting paid even if he's had a rough couple games. He's going to the hard areas and trying to make things happen.

He's a winger, not a center, he never deserbed the contract they gave him, and this is where it hurts. Pasta and Bergy merged equates to that "elite" status like McDavid, Matthews, and Tkachuk. Why? Because those guys win fuckin faceoffs and have the speed and puck handling to get the job done. Pasta has fumblefucked around 30% of the time he has had the puck this post season.
He was paid for the "future of the team" not for his track record of a great playoff presence, he always does this in the post and I'm sick of being told he doesn't.

Do you not have critical thinking skills? Look at every elite team there is. They all have multiple players on huge money contracts. Toronto is a perfect example. The problem is that elite players are rarely available and the best way to get them is to draft them. This past offseason we had zero cap room to do anything. This upcoming offseason there will be ample cap room to improve the team. There won’t be any #1 centers but there will be chances to improve the squad.
They just looks slow in comparison to most teams. Anytime another team decides to play tight/in your face defense then the team struggles. The only time they look dominant is when teams decide to give them space and play more zone style defense.

You've cited 3 games (4 now with this one) where he's showed up. He's played 4 these last 2 years. That's 72% of games he's not showing up. And don't give me "coverage," he gets $11m because he's supposed to be better than those players covering him. Instead they knock him down very easily.

Why does an $11m player need elite linemates to stand out and alter games. He's a top 10 contract in the league, why can't he elevate the PPG performance of his linemates, and instead needs them to elevate his? There. stats.

A reminder that his only 2 goals scored this series were only possible because of great plays by his teammates. Zacha with an incredible no look behind the back backhand and Marchand with an incredible solo effort and pass that your grandfather could tap in.
Isn't that basically always the case in hockey? It's a team sport and basically all goals ever scored are when the team has worked together to get 1 man in front of the net with no defender in front of him.
It would be different if Pasta was setting up his teammates on the ice for success, but he turns the puck over any time he's the guy carrying it on the rush.

Of course I agree with everyone else that Pasta hasn’t been good this series and he needs to step up otherwise our chances look grim, with that being said to pretend he’s constantly a no show and a choke artist in the playoffs is ridiculous to me, he was actually one of the few to show up when the ship was sinking last year (I know most of y’all decided to forget what happened during those games except that Bertuzzi was good, I get it, I did it too for a time as a defense mechanism) I understand that we are all upset and it’s painful to see the team in a similar situation as last year but the roads leading to this point have certainly been different.

I think the problem is that Pastrnak isn’t as good as they need him to be. There are about 15 or 20 guys you would be better off with in the playoffs and that’s really frustrating from such a great goalscorer.

The Blackhawks were always at their best when Kane and Toews played separately so they could play them together situationally. Having a legit #1 center would absolutely help but I don’t think he needs to be on Pasta’s line.

Fair enough, the center position is a much bigger issue than Pastrnak. Ultimately, I think the team is too reliant on Pastrnak, but that’s due to other roster issues that are far worse than his performance.

100% the lack of support around him makes his flaws more obvious. His play style is similar to Ovechkin’s who also had trouble in the postseason for years. Fantastic players but don’t drive play the same way Crosby and McDavid do.
Bruins fans have never been used to having a high end offensive player before. They think the big bad bruin player is the only way when in reality that way of thinking has delivered one single cup in 52 years. They also can't see that his teammates aren't opening up any ice for him. Every team knows he's the only scoring threat so they double team at every chance

Don't really have much for you lol they have Pavel zacha and charilie coyle as their top two centers...our offense has been up and down this year because of low skill overall. The one guy who has produced consistently has been pasta. The team is not very good guys, they over achieved this year. If they get bounced in the first? Ya thats about where they should be. I saw this all year playing 20 ot games, blowing leads or whatever. It just sucks they went up 3-1 😄
You’re missing the issue. Pastranak is supposed to be one of a very small handful of players that is NOT the problem. He’s been one of many problems in these last two losses. The offense isn’t particularly good, but neither is the Toronto defense. I also saw this all year, they aren’t cup contenders, but they also shouldn’t be bad enough to blow this 3-1 lead against Toronto.

Coyle has been working his ass off, and is one of the few guys out there who's managing any puck possession or shots on goal. Zacha, on the other hand, had an excellent regular season but has been invisible in the playoffs. 0 shots on goal last night, 0 goals in 18 career playoff games. He and Pasta need to get their shit together.
I’m sorry man, but when you’re the 1C you’re going to get exposed like this. It comes with the territory. Coyle has had flashes but he’s been largely a nothing in this series. He hasn’t won any matchups and he hasn’t facilitated any offense. He’s only just started shooting. Even had a chance to put the game away in Game 5 but didn’t.

JDB is another player that can turn it on and shut it off almost like it’s just a job to him. Frustrating because he has the talent, if he played for Edmonton they would get him switched on probably 90% of the time.

I always feel so conflicted about Pasta. Yes he puts pucks in nets and is a top player in the league, but my god, go watch him in person or whenever he has the puck, and he basically averages a turnover per shift. He plays too casually sometimes and it doesn’t work. I love him so much but he needs to actually look like he’s trying. He glides 90% of his shift, pulls off a fancy move to beat a defender, then turns it over. That’s his average shift
He lead the league in turnovers this year, but that is usually indicative of players who have the puck on their stick a lot. If you look at the other league leaders they all have either been or are currently the best players in the league. The issue with pasta is that he doesn't try and change his game at all in the playoffs where time and space are more limited and single man possession plays are fewer and more difficult. It's been the same story for the last 5 years since he fully came into his own as a star player

The issue with that is they have put a ton of players to play with him and the only player that has really consistently gelled with him is krejci. A lot of this I think comes down to the Bruins’ horrible transition play, inability to win face offs and lack of physicality. How many times have we seen Pasta try to enter the zone and immediately get bodied? He needs better support around him and the team needs serious changes in both personnel and coaching strategy. I’m not ready to put it all on Pasta.
It’s a little of everything, honestly. Bruins have been horrible in transition, horrible on the forecheck, and horrible at maintaining possession in the O zone. On top of that, the defense has been absolutely atrocious at getting pucks out of their own end. Mcavoy is really the only one that’s played “okay”. I would agree pasta needs to come through and play like himself, but also can’t really do that as long as the rest of the team plays like they’re ready for golf season.
Yeah Mcavoy has been awesome. He’s been aggressive and physical and that’s when he’s at his best. Only guy I don’t want to cast into the sun rn lol
I would say that this is both accurate, and unfair. Yes you absolutely need more from the highest paid player on your team. But at the end of the day he signed the contract he was offered, and that’s not his fault. Pasta has the 6th highest cap hit in the league, so by proxy you should expect him to be the 6th most impactful player in the league. That simply hasn’t been the case this series. In the past he has had a greater impact, and I’d say that the supporting cast this year being lesser, affects him more. When we had the ability to roll Coyle and Hall out on the 3rd line, it forces other teams to constantly defend and Pasta could take advantage. Simply put, whatever we deploy right now isn’t going to be able to do that on a consistent basis. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Pasta produces better on the nights that we also get secondary scoring. Ultimately, this was always going to be a bridge year, and some regression was likely across the board, so we shouldn’t be letting our expectations change solely with the situation. Yes the lack of “clutch” in this group is concerning. That’s what we need to address with all the cap this off-season if finding guys who A. Always Have a little more to give in the playoffs B. Guys who force teams to defend the bottom 6. So yes Pasta needs to be better, but so does everyone.

The irony is that so many fans wouldn't have blinked an eye if the B's missed the playoffs because that's what we all were expecting. The article is specifically about a specific players poor play. There’s not a lot of beat guys that are turning that into their editor anymore. That’s what I appreciate. The media holding the team/individuals to the fire is part of what makes Boston the best sports town in the country and the most recent crop of beat guys across all four major sports or more and more afraid to do that.

I watched Tkachuk run rampant on us last year with Sam Bennett and Nick Cousins as his linemates. Two third-liners at best. Still noticed him every god damn time he was out on the ice. Pasta will score on an odd man rush and then disappear for 30 minutes. But hey, still a point a game!!!

I'd argue Seguin had the same ceiling. Injuries derailed him a bit. Plus, he was a center, so he gets a +1 over Pasta there. And it's not incorrect. Look at the influx of talent over the last decade.
Pasta was at his best during the years of the “perfection line”. That line, obviously was ferocious. Their forecheck and their cycle was dangerous and almost unbeatable. Now I’m saying that with a clear mind that those three together were magic. And that’s hard to replicate. But he doesn’t quite stand on his own anymore. He gets his ass whooped, especially in the playoffs. And a lot of us have said this over the past few years, and it gets this subreddits panties all in a bunch, but his inability to carry the puck, and his constant turnovers are absolutely brutal and costly. I’ve said it before, and I stand by it, pasta should not be allowed to carry in neutral zone, and ESPECIALLY not anywhere near a blue line. He needs to evolve and earn his $12 million a year.

It’s because the Reddit official app sucks ass. On the real though, I think it must be due to some algorithm like IG or YouTube. You click on one thing that mentions the Bruins, they assume you want MORE! It’s really strange.
If you’re on the official app it’s because you’ve clicked on a post in this sub or a similar sub recently. I’m in the same boat, actually clicked this thinking it would be on r/hockey. I’ve been frequenting the leafs / hockey subs for the past 2 weeks and now a quarter of my home feed is from other teams’ subs “because I’ve recently visited a similar community” or whatever. Really dumb “feature” – I want my home feed to be **my** home feed, not a concoction of 75% my feed + 25% posts Reddit thinks I’ll like (which recently are mostly other teams dunking on the Leafs in their own subs, which is actually kinda funny). I miss Apollo, the official app blows *edit:* me commenting here probably signed me up for another week of Bruins posts haha

You're right, you don't want that for 11mil. Marner is a good player but is soft and overpaid for what he is. As an outsider, Pasta is very much worth what he's getting paid even if he's had a rough couple games. He's going to the hard areas and trying to make things happen.

I get shit all the time when I say anything bad about our Lord and Savior "Pasta" He's a winger, not a center, he never deserbed the contract they gave him, and this is where it hurts. Pasta and Bergy merged equates to that "elite" status like McDavid, Matthews, and Tkachuk. Why? Because those guys win fuckin faceoffs and have the speed and puck handling to get the job done. Pasta has fumblefucked around 30% of the time he has had the puck this post season. He was paid for the "future of the team" not for his track record of a great playoff presence, he always does this in the post and I'm sick of being told he doesn't.

Hear, let me spell this out for you. Tkachuk is paid the amount he deserves. Pasta is overpaid. Tkachuk is outperforming Pasta in the postseason, and it's ridiculous because of the amount of money Pasta is paid. Does that make sense?

Everyone heralds Florida last season as if they won the cup. They made it to the finals and got their teeth kicked in. Tkachuk has the reputation of a bigger winner and they lost their SCF elimination game by like 7 goals lmao

Do you not have critical thinking skills? Look at every elite team there is. They all have multiple players on huge money contracts. Toronto is a perfect example. The problem is that elite players are rarely available and the best way to get them is to draft them. This past offseason we had zero cap room to do anything. This upcoming offseason there will be ample cap room to improve the team. There won’t be any #1 centers but there will be chances to improve the squad.

They just looks slow in comparison to most teams. Anytime another team decides to play tight/in your face defense then the team struggles. The only time they look dominant is when teams decide to give them space and play more zone style defense.
Yep. Happened with Tampa, Carolina, Islanders, Florida, and now Toronto. If there’s any kind of congestion up the middle they can’t seem to generate anything.

Are we sure Pasta is fully healthy? Since he took that shot to the knee he looks off, a little slower than usual, and sloppy on the puck. Not excusing it, but I do wonder if there's something physical going on.

I’ve said this in a few threads now, HE DOES THIS EVERY YEAR! He has had two good playoff years, 2018 and 2019. He is not built for the playoffs.
