My favorite musical of all time. I used to walk around my neighborhood with my dog for hours and play the album over and over again when I was an angsty lonely child lol.
I wish I could afford the tickets to see it now, I’m glad you enjoyed!!
Ooh i def should! I have never entered a lottery weirdly enough, even though I live in CT and am an hour drive plus a 2ish hour train ride from NYC so nothing crazy. My mom is the only one willing to see shows with me so I’m def gonna talk about it with her tmrw loll
Literally the most brilliant musical comedy of the modern age. No one but Trey and Matt could create something so utterly incredibly yet simultaneously crazy vulgar and offensive.
I saw it in its first year and watched so many audience members get up and leave. I’m so glad it has lasted so long!
What makes the sow so beloved is how it sends up its main characters without ever really ridiculing them. Elder Price and Elder Cunningham are the butt of a lot of jokes, but the musical never actually ridicules them for their religious belief - the belief may be ridiculous, but the people are trying the best they can.
Even in a musical where Jeffrey Dahmer humps a coffee cup, people respond to that sort of thing.
I live a five-minute walk from the Crown Burger in the background of “Two by Two”—it’s a Salt Lake institution. Seeing the musical in Salt Lake is glorious—I think it’s cathartic for a lot of people. When the dancing Starbucks cups come out during Spooky Mormon Hell Dream the theater here completely lost it. I’ve seen a lot of shows over the years in a lot of places, and I have never heard anything quite like that; riotous, screaming laughter that felt like it was going to take the roof off of the place.
Can we talk about the people with the awful seats in the box next to the show proscenium? Like what can they see? 1/2 the stage and behind the scenes Stage Left.
I’ve seen it from the box and was pleasantly surprised that I could see virtually everything except stuff on the very far edges of stage left. I didn’t feel like I missed anything - I’ve seen it probably 10 times.
I saw it in February 2012 with the original cast. The show was sold out and we didn’t have tickets and were waiting outside the theater for standing room only tickets. Some man approached me and asked if I needed tickets. I thought he was a scalper and asked him “How much”. He said “They are free. We just can’t attend the show tonight”. Bottom line is he gave me 3 tickets for the show. I went with my daughter and a friend. We got to meet the cast at the stage door and had our programs signed. I even got a photo of me with Andrew Rannells.
Saw it in Boston and was sitting on an aisle up front. There were quite a few older and appeared to be very proper Back Bay or Beacon Hill type ladies. It was very entertaining to see their reactions and their trying not too laugh too hard or laugh at all.
I had seen this for rhe first time in over 10 years back in January (Ben Platt was fucking Elder Cunningham thats how long it had been) and I forgot how funny it was so totally glad I saw it again (The spooky mormon hell dream gets me every time).
I was also shocked going in that the theather was all filled but its also like you know what good for them for them trucking on during the chaos of chaos of broadway.
I saw this with the original cast in the summer of 2011. It was the best Broadway experience I’ve ever had. They had just won the Tony and the cast was just 🔥! I’ll never forget it!
Oh I just saw it last night! (lottery win) I have been slack about entering the BoM lottery (i guess bc it's just been around forever I don't even register any more) but I'm on vacation and entered for everything. Super fun!

It’s funny, the songs are good, it appeals to the ‘dragged along doesn’t like musicals’ crowd.

Turn. It. OFF
No, Elder McKinley, I'm not having gay thoughts! Alright! It worked!

BoM is absolutely the funniest show I've ever seen

Exact same situation, Boston up front. So many older folks. I don’t think they had ANY idea what they were getting into 🤪😂

How was platt as Cunningham??
He was actually quite HILARIOUS. Considering how he managed to do a serious role like Leo Frank later in his Career it definitely showed his range!
I saw the first national tour in Houston and loved it. Haven’t seen it since though.

Kim Exum is incredible in Book of Mormon
SHE WAS SUCH A STANDOUT! I loved her and the guy currently playing Elder Cunningham.
Love that show!

Just never wanted to see the Book of Mormon. It doesn’t even interest me. I’m sure it’s very good but it’s just not for me.
