Mamma Mia. Younger gens really like/seem to know Abba more now I think compared to when the show was on Broadway.

CorgiMonsoon

Most people in the industry are assuming that at some point the current 25th Anniversary tour will do at least a limited engagement on Broadway

mtpleasantine

This surprises me. You're saying they capitalized a new musical about ABBA in the 90's when interest was \*low\* compared to now? I feel like it would have been seen as a total money pit. I always assumed ABBA Gold caused a revitalization in interest, one that hasn't been matched yet.

Seymourkrelbrn

Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Legally Blonde, American Idiot, Bridges of Madison County, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Women on the Verge…, The Full Monty, Seussical, The Sweet Smell of Success, and The Scottsboro Boys all seem primed for Broadway redemption in the next ten years. Lippa’s Wild Party would be on this list if it weren’t for the horrible rewrite they did of it at Encores Off Center a few years back. 🤷‍♂️ La Chiusa deserves a thorough celebration and appraisal in the next ten years. Giant, Queen of the Mist, Hello Again, Little Fish, First Daughter Suite, First Lady Suite, MARIE CHRISTINE?! I’d pay top dollar for tickets to see a high quality revival of some of his work, and I’m really looking forward to the Encores production of HIS Wild Party. Ragtime is 26 years old I believe but should also be included in this conversation. I hope I see a high quality revival of it again before I die 👴(I loved the 2009 revival and saw it twice).

astronaught002

Comet is coming to the west end soon, which is real exciting that we’re getting a proper production again! I think it will be a while till broadway sees it again but I think it’s a show that will always be opening somewhere

LittleLotte29

Not the West End. It's coming to Donmar Warehouse. Hopefully we'll get a transfer though.

mulleargian

Donmar shows occasionally transfer to St Anne’s… maybe a long shot but here’s hoping!

SarahMcClaneThompson

I saw a production in Toronto earlier this year and it was magnificent!

thismustbethursday

I drove to Toronto from Massachusetts to see it, it was a great time!

mtpleasantine

It's going back next year due to demand. Makes you wonder...

SarahMcClaneThompson

Yeah I heard, although I do have some doubts about how it’s going to translate from this very intimate space to the larger and more standard Royal Alexandra

Confident-Range2777

i’ve been thinking this exact thing, it was so popular! hopefully it does well in the bigger space, i’m so curious how they’ll make it work since i seriously doubt they’d be renovating

_ihavefriends

Encores is doing a version of Ragtime this fall with Joshua Henry as Coalhouse, Caissie Levy as Mother, and Brandon Uranowitz as Tateh - could see that totally getting a Broadway transfer!

mtpleasantine

Signature (VA) had a bodacious production last season that some wanted to go to Broadway. If Encores doesn't move with THIS cast, then I believe it's never happening lol

groudhogday

I would be so happy if Dirty Rotten Scoundrels came back. Always been a random fave of mine.

BenYankee

Give Them What They Want and Norbert Leo Butz's just absolutely owning Great Big Stuff are classic moments. It's a silly enjoyable thing overall but with production costs so high these days, I doubt we get a revival sadly.

JackfruitSingles

Would be fab to see The Scottsboro Boys with a Black creative team. The original production was good but a minimalist (borderline semi-staged) approach, there's a lot of opportunity for a fuller staging.

JackfruitSingles

Would also love to see Women on the Verge that understands the queer zest of Almodovar (sorry Bart).

intenselyseasoned

My hope is that Flloyd Collins does at least relatively well. I feel it would pave the way for some of the lesser known, but critically loved, musicals to make their way to a Broadway run. My dream is that Giant makes it to Broadway.

intenselyseasoned

I take it you’re a David Yazbek fan haha

Seymourkrelbrn

Meh. I like some of his work. Tbh I built this list by flipping through Spotify and wasn’t really thinking about composer repeats. I think a lot of his work is commercial and fun and would do well if you plug a big star into it. I’m kinda surprised The Full Monty has never had a revival.

reptilesocks

Bridges and Sweet Smell are never coming back

Seymourkrelbrn

I think both could use an encores “revisal”. Bridges needs to be cut down to a 90-minute one act (cut the kids, please god). You might be right about Sweet Smell but shhhhhhh let me have my delusions and dreams 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹.

CarpeDiemMaybe

Why not Bridges in your opinion

reptilesocks

Because even the people who loved it (like me) thought that a solid half of the show was really, really boring. But also, I think Bridges has a fundamental flaw, in that the audience it can be marketed to and the audience that it resonates with are two different audiences. Bridges is a show that has tremendous insight into *the straight male experience of romance, and love, and loss, and relationships*. Almost everyone I know in the industry who loves that show is a straight man. And who’s the audience who will actually buy tickets? Not them. Never. The property is pre-marketed to middle aged women. Who, sure, have a fine enough time at the show, but it doesn’t hit them in the gut the way it hits guys.

crimson777

Bridges seems primed for concert revival type stuff. The music is absolutely gorgeous, but yeah, the actual show is fine, but I don't think it's nearly as great as the music itself.

CarpeDiemMaybe

I think you’re right about that, I’d love a concert version

Ok_Moose1615

As a middle aged mom… I think you’re missing the insight Bridges has into what it’s like to be a woman who married young, built a good life, but has spent her life putting other people’s needs first and isn’t sure who she is anymore.

reptilesocks

I think Bridges the book and Bridges the film depicted that very well. Bridges the musical did that okay, but, well, didn’t have much new to say about it. On the other hand, The Husband and Robert are both extremely relatable characters for men, written with a lot of insight, and most importantly *I can’t think of many musicals that depict those types of male experiences with that amount of realism*.

Sarahndipity44

DRS is GREAT but sadly I don't think loveable conmen hold up re: Trump . Feel the same about Music Man without a new concept (the ASL English production in MD starring James Caverly was exceptional and breathed new life into it). Scottsboro Boys is getting good play regionally, curious if they'll try it on Bway again

Seymourkrelbrn

Oh I actually think DRS would work super well BECAUSE of Trump- he’s even mentioned in the score. The two central characters are supposed to look like childish jerks, and in the end they lose. Greed never wins. Follow your heart not your insatiable appetite for wealth. I also think you’re sadly underestimating how many top price ticket buyers for Broadway shows are republicans who wouldn’t be bothered.

Sarahndipity44

You're not wrong about your second paragraph, which I am aware of, but I hadn't thought of the first point!

Musigamist

Ragtime, Mamma Mia, The Producers, Hairspray, Elf (this fall actually), and Groundhog Day will probably all get their turn.

Accomplished-Dog3715

I'd love to see The Producers tour and come near my Midwest city (I'd settle for Indianapolis only an hour away). Elf is my favorite Christmas movie, from someone who really, really dislikes Christmas movies so I went to see a local professional production of the show maybe 2 years ago now and just really bloody enjoyed myself. I guess going in having little expectation helped.

LisaSaurusRex83

I would love to see Aida again!

lem2017

I have such a soft spot for that musical lol. Those songs are still on my go-to rotation

LisaSaurusRex83

Heather Headley’s voice will forever be one of my faves. And Strongest Suit is my go to traffic jam karaoke choice haha

Real-Leadership3976

Yes!!!

Pajamas7891

legally Blonde I hope

dobbydisneyfan

I could see Matilda making a comeback.

Muffina925

I really hope Next to Normal gets revived 🤞 I think Come From Away will be revived at some point. That show is so healing, and the effects of 9/11 are still felt in the greater NYC area, especially if you lost somebody that day.  Eta: Y'all are making me soooo happy with news of how well NTN is doing on West End. To this day I'm bummed that I was too young to afford tickets when the original production was on Broadway, and now I have hope that I'll get to see it, perhaps someday soon. 🖤

mtpleasantine

N2N is certifiably getting revived thanks to the West End production. It's ripe. I can't believe CFA ever closed. The city should have personally paid to keep it open as a memorial to the resilience of the attacks tbh

But_Im_A_Gilmore

Lots of Next to Normal rumours about the incredible current West End production...

niicofrank

NtN is playing on the West End right now and having just seen it I’d be really surprised if they don’t at least consider a Broadway transfer because it’s a great production

bonobolife

I bet Disney might be interested in reviving some of its shows at some point. Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, etc. (My actual dream would be a Hunchback Broadway run)

grimsb

I think I heard that Beauty and the Beast is coming back edit: [It’s a tour](https://beautyandthebeastthemusical.com/), not sure if it will be on Broadway

barrie2k

Hunchback would do SO WELL if they tried it on Broadway again, yes please!!

Interesting_Phone157

I also want to add that spring awakening is timeless and I could totally see it being revived in about 10-20 years!

lem2017

Spring Awakening already had a revival in 2015!

ghoul_power

We want another one!

lem2017

frankly i want a DWSA revival 😝

picklesupreme

Seconding! I think DWSA added a whole new layer to the show.

tmobilekid

I haven’t seen the musical, but can a plot addressing “adolescent sexuality” really hold up under gen-z scrutiny? Legitimately asking, since I love the OBC recording.

Interesting_Phone157

I think adolescence sexuality is kind of an evergreen topic and can resonate with any generation - it’s about general growing pains that that age group has always felt and will always feel. I also think because it takes place so far in the past it would hold up in the future!

tmobilekid

Makes sense! I was just thinking about DEH. Gen-z kinda tore the plot apart (among other things) when the film came out

Lethifold26

I see what you mean; gen z tends to be very resistant to fiction portraying anything “problematic” and Spring Awakening has plenty of that (I love the show and think it’s a good thing that it features heavy topics)

wteverlolawants26232

If anything, it's even *more* relevant to Gen Z, given that America's becoming increasingly like 1890s Germany.

Own-Importance5459

I see Beetlejuice having a shot at a revival because I feel the musical itself is a cult fav. I am also hoping Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet comes back as well!

But_Im_A_Gilmore

Beetlejuice London first please! We are screaming out for it over here 😀

Own-Importance5459

I hope you guys get as well. ITS HILARIOUS!

D_o_H

Hopefully we get a proshot with Alex if they mount a London production 🤞🏻🤞🏻

depressedpr0phet

They’ve mentioned a City of Angels Encores production several times, so I’d imagine that will be in the works sometime soon

julianfri

I feel like this is a lot of people’s CC white whale

crimson777

The Band's Visit deserves a revival, though it might be hard to beat the OBC. It's such a beautiful little show and I'd love to see it staged at Circle in the Square.

ApprehensiveUsual449

When I watched the Tony’s I didn’t understand the hype around it and why it one so much. Safe to say I completely understood when I saw it!

ApprehensiveUsual449

If/Then, saw it 4 times and it’s very underrated!

RegionConsistent4729

Whoa, blast from the past. I’d forgotten about it, I saw it twice before it close to make room for Hamilton 😅 would definitely like this one making a come back too

theatreghostlight

Loved that musical!

crywolfer

Last week’s reunion… i was genuinely hoping Idina would make a surprise appearance

Wild_Bill1226

It’s probably too early for broadway, but I could see an off broadway production of come from away for the 25th anniversary in 2026. So glad they got s pro shoot.

ouyangjie

I would love to see Come From Away live a long life Off-Broadway. Beautiful show

latestnightowl

No one's mentioned Lempicka yet? At least a City Center Encores.

mtpleasantine

Needs better direction for sure, Chavkin missed the mark there. Could have been so great.

ouyangjie

I'm not sure that score can ever be revitalized 😬

LoganDeLuca2004

Great Comet, Bonnie and Clyde (west end transfer maybe), Legally Blonde, Come from Away, Kinky Boots.

zamarie

Didn't they just do a West End Bonnie & Clyde? Or was that not on the West End? I know there was some production of it in England with Jeremy Jordan...

kingofcoywolves

Great Comet!!

DEClarke85

Fun Home.

Wudaokau

Honestly a Urinetown revival could be topical and downright scary.

aproclivity

I would be extremely surprised if someone’s not working on it right now.

granite133

Urinetown is getting an Encores next season

VoidAndBone

I'd like to say Lempicka for sure but truly I don't know. It had a fierce fanbase. It gripped you. The music was excellent. There was enough in the source material to let your brain chew on it for days to weeks. I don't think I've seen a show talked about more on here. But outside of the theater world it really was an unknown, so I don't know if we will just move on at some point.

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

The Notebook. The title has shown real staying power now for about 30 years, from the book to the film and now the musical. The score is solid. I think it’s the sort of cast album that will get listened to by people who did not see the show who will assume that the show must have been misunderstood. And although I don’t think it’s the greatest musical, I do think the material is better than the production that it was put into (although the cast is good).

Captain_JohnBrown

It's weird because my takeaway was exactly the opposite: A fantastic production kneecapped by some of the worst lyrics I have ever heard.

VoidAndBone

"Is it time for dinner or is it time for forever" albeit sung beautifully just completely pulled me out of the moment

jshamwow

What was wrong with the production, from your pov? I kind of liked the set, the rain, etc.

Seymourkrelbrn

I totally agree. A poor production got in the way of what in 20 years will be considered one of the best scores of the mid 2020s.

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

Yeah, and what started out in the 90s as a pretty schlocky novel dismissed by every literary critic has turned into a story that genuinely resonates with people on an emotional level. Give it another 25 years to further solidify as a beloved classic title and I would be surprised if it does not get a revival that sells a lot more tickets. If nothing else, I would love to see an encores-style concert of it with a lush orchestra, because the tinny small orchestrations in the current production do not do the score justice.

Great-Union2928

Next to Normal, The Producers, Fun Home, and then I think all 4 shows from the 2017 Tony season all have a shot at being revived at some point. Great Comet and Groundhog Day would likely come sooner since they closed in 2017 (hoping for a Donmar Great Comet transfer if it’s good), but I see CFA and DEH being revived 15-20 years from now since they were successful in their initial runs

jnt003

Waitress!

chidongwook

Definitely Mamma Mia! It's a fun show and very enjoyable, abba songs are also becoming increasingly popular these days. People should check out Mazz Murray as Donna Sheridan, she's amazing in it! I personally love when she sings The Winner Takes it All, she even got a standing ovation for it.

Xandra_87

The movie version of tick… tick… boom!

Blazethefirefly13

This might not happen but I think they should revive Pippin again soon. The 2013 show was absolutely amazing

[deleted]

A tasteful Hairspray would hit so hard

jshamwow

Life of Pi. Popular novel and film, good story, the opportunity to do some really cool production stuff with the animals. Could probably be done on a budget because of the small cast depending on how they handle the animals. I thought it was one of the most beautiful plays i’d seen in years. I think it might just need another run to find its audience

Seth_765

I really hope Avenue Q opens up Off Broadway again. That is one of my favorite musicals!

qualitativevacuum

I desperately want a Head Over Heels revival or even just Encores run

After-Analysis-8708

Really wanna watch Avenue Q

Rightsureokay

Seems like every regional theatre is doing *Beautiful* in 24/25 so maybe it will go back to Broadway someday. I’d definitely see it again.

granite133

As someone who knows very little about Carole King and not super enthused @ the idea of a jukebox musical, I saw Beautiful in a regional production here in Philly and actually really loved it. The music was great but I found the book to be the real star. It was daring and full of life. Not to mention the great cast

Rightsureokay

I was also hesitant to see it but my boss convinced me to see it when it was still on Broadway and I also ended up loving it. Not at all what I expected though I didn’t know much about her life in the first place but wow, what a show.

Capitalist_Nook

Considering the workshop, I wouldn’t be opposed to a return of Almost Famous

Whatevafloatsuboat

Billy Elliot or Aida or Beauty and the Beast.

zamarie

Not a Broadway revival, strictly speaking, but I'd love to see Dogfight make it to Broadway. I think it's Pasek & Paul's best work and MILES better than DEH.

Real-Leadership3976

Yes please

dopamineparty

I really hope Prayers for the French Republic is revived!

ErinVukelic

I’n really hoping Next To Normal comes back to Broadway next year, considering it seems to be doing well in the West End! And Aaron Tveit can be Dan!(don’t get mad at me, I love a full circle moment lol!)

Physical_Hornet7006

Bad Cinderella

sydneyella

i hope for alice by heart, spring awakening, bare: a pop opera, & next to normal

Bibliophibian364

I'd love to see a return of Peter and the Starcatcher!
