We always look for 1776 on the 4th. Heck, whenever my wife thinks I'm taking something too far, she always tells me, "For God's sake, John, sit down". And my name's not John.

Maryland_Bear

In the last episode of the HBO *John Adams* series from years ago, there’s a scene where Abigail and John are worried about a family matter. She’s seated; he paces until she says, “Oh, for God’s sake, John, sit down.”

Craig_in_PA

I do not, but I do sing "Pennsylvania! Pennsylvania!" whenever I cross the Commonwealth's border.

captainwondyful

EVERY YEAR ITS TCM TIME!!!! Yankee Doodle Dandy, 1776, and Music Man 🎉🎉🎉

soupfeminazi

My go-to movie musical (well, sort of a musical) for July 4th is Nashville. Just the right level of American and bleak.

Captain_JohnBrown

No, but I do watch Presidential movies every President's Day from 9am to Midnight, (mostly) different ones every time and 1776 is the only one that has gotten repeat viewings.

ZenPirate23

I always watch 1776 and sometimes Gettysburg

Maryland_Bear

I watched Gettysburg this past weekend. My husband has zero interest in it, so I watch while he works on Saturday. I do warn him that sometime during the day, he can expect me to yell out, “***BAYONETS!!!!***”

VeilstoneMyth

I watch 1776 on the Fourth, Heathers on the 11th (cuz JD and his 7/11 lol), and Hamilton on the 12th actually — the day he died. Normally throw In The Heights in somewhere too, and of course I start off every summer with Mamma Mia.

dreadpiraterose

Every year we're singing *It's hot as hell in Philadephia!* from our home just outside Philadelphia! Gotta watch it! It's tradition.

StuffonBookshelfs

ARE YOU ME????

Maryland_Bear

Unless you’re eating French fries and watching *Jeopardy!* right now, no. 😀

StuffonBookshelfs

…so close lol. I do love French Fries and Jeopardy.

GayBlayde

…I am, actually.

CKM5253

💯 Yankee Doodle Dandy, too.

cookiecat4

It’s always funny to see James Cagney dancing when you’re used to his gangster roles (Made it Ma! Top of the World!). I watch it every year on 7/4.

CKM5253

Agreed! I just love this film.

Providence451

Every year as long as I remember.

dblk35

My sister and her youngest daughter did for years. My sister died in 2017, but I think my niece still watches it!

34TE

My wife and I have a yearly tradition of watching the National Treasure movies on the 4th of July, which, let me tell you, is one of my favorite times of the year.

dobbydisneyfan

No but I may watch Hamilton this year.

MarekKulak

I watch Gettysburg (the movie), but I appreciate your inclination

Kane76

I have for years and my kids would always groan when I played it. Sometimes, I'll add Yankee Doodle Dandy as a bonus feature.

franklinshepardinc

I watch it every year, and have bought it on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and now 4k Blu-ray. And sometimes I watch it twice!!

Jersette55

I watch it every time it’s on. Because, it’s William Daniels at his best. I also watch The Music Man, which is also usually on the Fourth. See above, sub Robert Preston.

CrystalizedinCali

🎶You have many friends and you’re a diplomat / oh that word🎶 Indeed, I do.

Maryland_Bear

🎶You’re obnoxious and disliked/I know that sir🎶

EljayDude

Yep, every year.

GayBlayde

Me!

xbrooksie

I have to ask. Are you a hairy gay man who lives in Maryland?

Maryland_Bear

Not as hairy as I’d like but yes.

xbrooksie

As a Maryland lesbian, I very much appreciate the user name

Sarahndipity44

Hello from this 1776-loving Maryland bisexual!

Ignoring_the_kids

I was explaining what Memorial Day is to my 8 yr old and she insisted we needed to watch Hamilton that day since he fought in a war.

Hastur13

Look, there are parts that are so charming about 1776 and I'm glad we have it but that show is too fucking long with two few songs. Whenever I watch it forget I'm watching a musical, and then it smacks me in the face.

Accomplished-Dog3715

Typically yes but I'm feeling very disgruntled so I'm going to care for the foster kittens in my charge (5 week old orange boys and their lovely mom and two week old all black little ones with their twin mommy) and try to finish two quilt tops while listening to a long musicals playlist instead. But I do enjoy the show, mom took me to a local production and thought I'd not like it because it was so "traditional". I was hurt when she told me that I love traditional old musicals!

rawrali

Yep! I can’t always get it in right on the 4th but I 100% watch it sometime over the holiday weekend. I also always watch [this](https://youtu.be/uZfRaWAtBVg?si=lDuK4b0PkNXOU7pw) for some reason.

BookkeeperPlastic773

I don't know why but I never cared for this show.

SOuTHINKurA-ble

I have tried. Have my parents been able to sit through it? Not exactly.

hannahmel

Not annually, but I am watching it now because it’s hot as hell in Philadelphia and that’s where I live.

PotentialShallot

Yes! No one else I know does this.

fia413

Yep!!! And for the last few years it's been as part of a double feature with *Hamilton*.

TavieP

Yes

ChristineDaaeSnape07

Yes. Ever since I was in it in High School.

Maggie1066

Right now! It’s on!

Maryland_Bear

Same here — I’m in the middle of “Mama Look Sharp”.

bain5511

I do! I will watch Hamilton as well around the 4th.

Sarahndipity44

Not always watch, but I always listen. This year I'm introducign it to my husband! I've loved it sicne by sixth grade history teacher showed us in class and honestly, for being over half a century old, was pretty forward thinking and progressive in many ways! We also watched the excellent "John Adams" (w/ Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney) series earlier this year so today we're pairing 1776 at night w/ rwatching the "Indepencence (1775-6-)" ep of John Adams in the morning :--) When I watched the episode, I was so surprised with the consistency of the history between the two! I thought a lot had been fictionalized/surmised that may have been more carefully researched. Also forever an Abigail Adams stan. Learned this year she was an abolitionist!

DelapsusResurgam95

Gettysburg on the 3rd and 1776 on the fourth. TCM has it on right now.

Ok_Moose1615

I don’t; but I do watch Come From Away every year on 9/11.
