Good Lord, I've never heard it described this way but I agree. When I lived with my parents in Mill Basin I distinctly remember a homeowner who was very angry that nobody wanted to pay 7.5 million dollars to buy the house he renovated to look like the Guggenheim. It was wild by the water, architecturally speaking.
Manhattan Beach at least pretends to be reasonable.
I know that one!
[This](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarters_A,_Brooklyn_Navy_Yard) is one of my favorite Brooklyn mansions. Not necessarily bizarre, but very cool, very old, and very out of place relative to the rest of vinegar hill
Is that one sort of up a bit above its surroundings? I think I've been in it - it was being used as a shoot for Boardwalk Empire several years ago. If it's the place I'm thinking of, he owners were partway through renovating it and it had gotten into rough shape prior to that. A very fine house to be sure and certainly quite an unusual home for any of the southwestern part of Brooklyn.
So, if it's the one I'm thinking of (it must be) about ten years ago some of the upstairs rooms were empty, the downstairs was pretty well sorted out, and obviously the plan was to generate some location-fee income to help fund the reno. A great plan, and it was clearly going to be amazing someday. The renovated parts were already pretty spiffy.
When I was a kid, two of my schoolmates were the children of an admiral and he was quartered in another pretty fancy house in the Navy Yard, quite near the one we're talking about.
Hidden Brooklyn. Full of surprises.
I was looking at Mill Basin when I was in the process of buying a house a year earlier (the cheap ones, not the crazy looking ones you’re referring to), the quietness/remoteness turned me off.

Some of the Manhattan Beach homes are more like gaudy compounds. I sort of love them.
Yeah, sounds right
[This](https://observer.com/2014/11/nazdarovye-tomb-like-manhattan-beach-mansion-sells-for-7-75-m/amp/) is in my top 5 bizarre Brooklyn houses

Quite literally- mill basin resident
Grew up in Mill Basin and loved it. The biggest drawback is the distance to any subway.
And dyker heights is somewhere in between
McMansions built on top of garages. Wild! When do you think they take the xmas lights down? I wanted to take my family this week.
Probably not until new years

Also there's a good chance of someone being buried under your basement.
Time to go investigate houses.
