kitt_mitt

Wet food in gravy - something they can lick, rather than have to scoop.

PooPawStinky

Seconding this: there are some Patê foods or mousses that are essentially lickable and might be easier to eat. Tiki cat has mousse food that my cat LOVES

jazberry715386428

Or just mix some water with regular pate to make it basically yogurt

LuxSerafina

I did this with my elderly gal, also gerber baby food mixed with a little warm water.

jazberry715386428

I do it for all my babies because more water = better

LeeLooPeePoo

Same!

Opening_Possession43

Me too a little water added twice per day

oldfashioncunt

i was worried about watering it down but that doesn’t seem to be a problem eh?

jazberry715386428

I only add a teaspoon or two, but it doesn’t seem to bother my boys.

Logical_Holiday_2457

Please make sure the baby food does not have onion or garlic paste. Sometimes they sneak it in there and it makes kitties sick

MillenniumNextDoor

My cats absolutely love tiki brand. I recommend the Aloha friends pouches, they go nuts for the chicken/pumpkin/lamb recipe.

Ok_Bird_7581

My cat did too until he got a little sister. My wallet said no.

Radatadadd

Yes my girlie likes “Weruva OMG cutie patootie” (yes, that’s the name!) it’s good gravy food

Wargurl831

Came here to say exactly this. Former vet tech

RatherBeDeadRN

Highly recommend fancy feast gravy lovers. My cat is a lazy brat and this is her favorite because she can practically slurp it up. Chewing is too much effort unless we're talking treats, then suddenly she wants cronch city

SuspectLarge

I have an elderly cat without teeth. He will only eat Fancy Feast pate or gravy lovers. If he can manage it, hopefully this boy will too.

stretchandspoon

Second or third or fourth this, wet fet food, mash it up if in chunks and see if that helps having it almost as a liquid.

IamaSnort

Do you feed him wet or dry food? My dog had to have the lower portion of her jaw removed, leaving a severe overbite. We mixed wet food with water to make a soup for her and she was able to lap it up. Maybe something he can lick up could be an option? He is super adorable by the way :)

thenerdygrl

It’s also good to have wet food for cats since they usually don’t drink much water and often have kidney issues because of it

4lt3r3dR341ity

“HughHughHughHugh” Do you primarily use dry or wet food? I’d imagine “over filling” bowl would be your best bet? Maybe put a bowl on a plate to catch the spillage or something. 🙂

Lux600-223

Is this new or has he always had it? Jaw muscles will deteriorate from certain diseases. Had to have one of my best cat buddies ever put down due to it. Started slow, at first it pulled to one side and I had to move his little jaw over after each bite. But eventually got to the point eating was a choke hazzard. Sad way to go.

HangryHangryHedgie

My boy Kirk has mandibular Micrognathia as well! He ended up needing all his teeth pulled due to them causing pain from the miss match of his bite. Well he still has his upper canines and all his incisors. We tried to unlock his jaw with removing the lower canines as a kitten, but it didnt work. He just has a tiny lower jaw! He eats pretty darn normally now. Do get your kiddo checked to see if any teeth are digging into his gums or palate. Or have become diseased and need out. I feed him wet pate, but he gobbles down dry food if offered. He also really loves to gum my fingers. Carries around his stuffed toys like babies. So there is not a pain issue. Get that ruled out. https://preview.redd.it/hmitfupdcd0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70525fe6cbaa807e12b36e3667da9684250f04d8

chicmango

He's such a cutie!

HangryHangryHedgie

He is a very special dude for sure. Here's a shot of his small mandible. I like to touch the roof of his mouth. https://preview.redd.it/qgrhnkvhbi0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20f18c341b0d7bed1637775ed57d0c9467b3efb6

DragonfruitCalm676

Awww such a sweetie. I feed my cat with a big mound of kibble on a paper plate. He doesn’t really overeat though and stops when the mound is gone. Have you tried this? I wonder if you could DIY something similar to those churu treats so he could lick wet food from a tube.

neurofly

What a cute little overbite.

Ok_Zookeepergame7755

Have you tried a flat bowl that is raised off the ground so he doesn't need to tilt his head down at an angle to eat?

firewater40

My cats love a bowl like this: https://www.amazon.com/LIONWEI-LIONWELI-Prevention-Dishwasher-Microwave/dp/B08BL36WPC?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

Vtech73

I would have my vet check him out. For my seniors I use the inversion blender. 1 can Friskies w 1/2 can no salt plain chicken broth. Comes out very smooth n easy to lick.

900penguins

I heard mewing helps. Sorry, I had to 😂

SolidFelidae

azbinnie

I had to check the comments to see if someone made this joke!

RedditAndWeepBoii

Please tell me your cat is named Mr.Burns. I'd even settle for Montgomery, if you insist on being lowkey about it. https://preview.redd.it/tsjhq9j5lb0d1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5dfd51f702a46c155bbe465d454d2cdd7d8117fe

morris0000007

Ask a real professional ie a vet

tenkensmile

Vet visit, please! They can look to see if he has any dental problems.

neutrondamage

Are the gums red or inflamed? I would take the little darling to the vet and get some dental x rays to make sure their teeth are not causing pain or needing cleaning or extraction. Like others, I also think something softer like a pate or gravy food could be helpful!  Best of luck, take care!

jbdany123

First off, I love him. He’s adorable. Secondly, try wet food in an elevated bowl. Think of the angle and how leaning downwards puts his mouth at a vertical angle more than a horizontal angle if the food is elevated to his liking. My cat has a slight overbite and it helps him!

whaleykaley

You should see the vet, he may have dental issues associated with this. If he has pain with eating, changing up his food may not be the answer.

final_capybara

https://preview.redd.it/i1nr1mchbe0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a41d2b64207d12ac763ed2f78ddc5436c932eb5c From experience: wet food. But try wet food like mince flavour that is like a paté consistency, no chunks.

copenhagen622

Just feed it wet food. Wet food actually has meat and also keeps them better hydrated. The dry food tends to be bulky and have filler crap in it. Every cat is different though. Some can be fine with dry food, but personally I acknowledge that the wet food they seem to enjoy more and think it's better for them so I'll give them a small amount of dry food and a good amount of wet food. I'm sure the wet food would be easier for your cat to eat with that problem

beonik

Your cat looks like mr. Bean

loooonglongman

Try placing the bowl up higher, so the cats head is more level with the bowl

Squirrelinthemeadow

Maybe if you put his bowl or plate on some kind of pedestal? It would change the angle of him approaching the food. Good luck!

Bashful_Ray7

You've already gotten good advice so I'm just here to say he's ADORABLE

[deleted]

Oh my God his overbite face is adorable.

imagrandmaatheart

I have no help but he looks so silly I love him so much pls tell him he is loved

lalaxoxo__

Lil Soups from Friskies!

anatomy-slut

My boy has a kinda sideways jaw and a jacked up bite too (friend tax attached for a visual)- wet food helps. He may have an issue eating kibble if his teeth aren't aligned, wet food makes it easier on multiple fronts for him to get it into his mouth and chew https://preview.redd.it/c070y77wkf0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=583d81afb4c470f9b51f4a2f92c6be06800d27b0

XanaxWarriorPrincess

I second making a slurry so he can just slurp up his food. He's adorable!

JETandCrew

Switch to all wet food? That way he can lick it up instead of having to chomp on dry food

[deleted]

Wet food and supplement it with a high calorie paste with vitamins and minerals, if he has trouble maintaining weight.

Calgary_Calico

I'd switch to all wet food so he can lick it instead of having to chew. Only thing with that is you'll have to brush his teeth because he won't have anything to clean his teeth, but it'll allow him to eat a lot easier. Go with something like shredded wet food rather than pate, if you go with pate add some water and mush it up

anonymouslyfamous_

This can happen when they’re inbred, which happens a lot with cats.

pettyplanet

My old man struggles to eat dry food so I add bottled water to all his wet food to make it more soupy and he licks the entire plate clean

Hardlyasubstitute

Fancy feast pate comes in chicken, beef, and all kinds of fishy flavors

VictoryGreen

He looks like my late baby boy. Get him some wet food like someone mentioned that he can lap up

MaterialInitial7935

I water down wet food so mine can lick it up, it helps and he eats better! He wasn’t getting nutrition before I did this.

LadyInCrimson

Maybe try gravy/pate foods for him to easily lap up. Off topic he looks like Mr Smithers and he's so cute.

Fast-Context-3852

Get him a retainer

Ginny3742

Soft food, small flat plate

SleepAromatic5803

I have an overbite cat too and she really prefers wet food and being hand fed treats :)

No_Swan_9834

He’s so cute 😭😭

Admirable_Kiwi8001

Tell him to start mewing

[deleted]

awww he’s so cute!!

RessQ

he's so cute, i'm dying

futongbo

Have your kitty assessed by a vet

the-first-victory

Not the same species in the slightest, but I have a gecko with an overbite and he also struggled to eat. He kinda slams his head into the ground to pick up food. The solution for him ended up being larger insects that were easier to pick up. So maybe a pate type wet food you can cut into chunks so he can pick them up easier? He’s a handsome boy!!

Infamous-Tax7794

He looks like a Simpson character, very cute though

amesydragon

Kitty braces

adzilc8

bro should start mewing

qixip

Pate mixed with a little water til smooth. Elevate a shallow bowl or plate. Or find a way to angle a lick mat. I got some kids plastic plates from ikea (kalas) that are a little bit textured/ grippy so the food doesn't slide around so much when they eat. Super cheap came in a pack of 6. Not the bowls tho- too deep (note if using plastic for cats it's important to change or clean dishes super frequently)

BaconNinja__

See a vet. Please see a vet. Please see a vet. Do I need to say it again? Dental problems can be serious.

jukesbin

https://preview.redd.it/kdyqobitag0d1.jpeg?width=3997&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c554f4c7e26910ad51ae6f40a0fb765be341b8be Wow, I had to do a double take because he looks like my cat! I agree with wet food in gravy and softening it up enough to make it easier for him to eat. Any signs of issues with his teeth or gums? There may be pain or discomfort which is preventing him from eating properly. If he is still unable to eat and losing weight, a veterinary visit may be necessary.

LSP577

Tiki cat wet food is great, also you could try mixing in goats milk with their dry food. Goat milk is great for cats!

Queenssoup

How about you give it to him in a mug?

confabulatrix

My cat has trouble getting a bite too. I stick to shreds in gravy or filets in gravy in canned food.

rcanum

I love him 🥹

DarlasServant

Cat soup is a great product!

LaCharognarde

Put the little guy on wet food (preferably pâté or mince). That way, he can lap it up instead of trying to bite it.

MoodyGenXer

Braces.

ShinyFrappe

The only logical answer is to feed him with a spoon

[deleted]

Mewing

all3ycat_

Cat braces!

Left_Tea_2083

Tell him to start mewing

shimmerisle

My cat has an overbite and had to have his lower canines removed. They were digging into the roof of his mouth. Now he looks much more comfortable eating.

MyCatSaidNotTo

I’m going to need about 50 more pictures of this cat because he is adorable!!

New_Breakfast127

Oh, my lord! Do you have a little platform or holder for his bowls so they're a few inches off the ground? Better for their digestion, not sure it would help with this

lizsthoughts

You should also try to raise his bowl up so he doesn't have to bend over so much, it made it alot easier for my cat. You can still use low rimmed or flat plates this way. I used to go to op shops and check out their plate sections as they are cheaper and usually ceramic and good quality.

NytronX

You need to switch to wet cat food. Either pate (add extra water) or gravy. I recommend Fancy Feast Classic or Weruva BFF

ABraveNewFupa

Not gonna be popular but: is he a healthy weight? Seems happy? If so don’t lose too much sleep over it, his whole life has been and will continue to be like this. Life adapts and if his biggest problem is small bites and long meals he’s a lucky kitty.

Indomir

Mewing 😅

Omgods1

Are you sure it's not his food? Make a mountain or shape his food into peaks, you know, like use paté as playdough. Easier bite

Asher_Applewhyte

My cat has an overbite but refuses soft food and struggles with bowls. I started laying a small amount at a type on a soft surface such as my bed and she's been doing well with it. It may be worth a try

calidownunder

Omg but he is so cute though just saying

_calmer_than_you_r_

Braces and head-gear.

candyclow83

Hmm, I have a fella with an overbite and he’s able to eat fine, maybe try wet food

Cats-n-Chaos

Make sure it’s soft food, or soak dry food in water or chicken broth before so it’s more like a mush

Curious_Problem1631

Make him a soup. Mix pate with water

sutrabob

He is so damn cute BTW.

Despises_the_dishes

Fellow cat with an overbite! Kibble size is critical as well as wet food texture and size. My little guy does well with small chunks since he scoops. He also does well with whipped food. Like a mouse texture. But he loves him some kibbles!! We feed in small shallow bowls. I buy sauce bowls from Daiso. These are easy for him to scoop out of. https://preview.redd.it/ofm7uebykp0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a73f50d16867c229fc90bbee520fd35e85a07a5

Visible_Field_68

More food. Fill the bowl so he can stuff his face in it. Yup, it’s messy. Does HE care. Nope.

Big_Chugus_Funny

He should mew

LisaMarie739

For my boy with a overbite (malocclusion) the wet lickable textures are great. But for Anakin I also have to help move the chunks/shreds (he loves chicken) that he has a hard time with into "a pile" that he can get easier. I'll do it multiple times when he walks away and tries to "bury" his food... As soon as I hear that, I know I have to go in and check the bowl. If it's all flat and pushed around he can't get it easily. I either refill or I push everything into a pile that he can come back and get. I noticed that helps him get to eat more substantial food that he loves. That's something that has really helped us. Also I moved away from dry crunchy food and I got some of the freeze-dried raw food and mixed it. That has been amazing! He can pick those pieces up and he loves the texture. It's easy for him to grab & eat. I've even started to get freeze-dried treats like minnows and chicken breast, chicken hearts, gizzards, etc. And for me it's been a lifesaver and Anakin definitely loves it! Hopefully someone's advice here helps you find what works best for you guys.

truffulatreeson

Wet food to lick up my cats don’t know how to bite food

thewitch2222

I use a salad plate to feed my cat. I'm too lazy to clean a bowl after every meal.
