This year you hope he can come in and get some sacks and pressures on 3rd down.
Still has a way to go before he's built like an NFL DE and can be reliable as a run defender, but his "unorthodox" style might give folks some trouble as a rusher.
Yeah he’s listed at 240 pounds, meaning he was probably playing around 230 for Kansas last year, and he’ll probably end the season around that while he goes through NFL level conditioning this year.
Best case scenario this season might be something similar to rookie year Mark Anderson way back. Get him in wide splits on passing downs and tell him to just go.
I was thinking about Mark Anderson, but he also had AB, Ogunleye, and of course Tommie Harris. Along with Israel Idonije and Tank Johnson and 4 HOFers in the back 7.
That is to say - I don't think 12 sacks and 4 FF are in the cards for our boy.
90% chance we add a vet on the DL before the season.
DRob is also still on this roster - I don't think he makes the 53, but if he earns a spot I think that's a good sign.
I feel like that's the opposite of good sign given his body of work and general expectations for the season (fair or not) if he contributes positively this year that would be massive!
Ah yea, I feel that. It would be dope if he did have a breakout even if it ends up with him getting paid by someone else. Just seeing talent develop from players like him would genuinely help paint the picture of flus being much better at his job than I think he is lol
His college tape is awesome. Seriously, imagine if we came out of this draft with the best quarterback we've ever had, one of the top 3 receivers in franchise history and the 2024 version Maxx Crosby. High hopes but that would be unreal
I truly believe the first two have a high chance, especially Odunze, since he's easier to predict than a QB. And Booker looks the part. To me he looks to size up comparably to Latu.
I watched a decent amount of film on him. He holds his point of attack really well. He can set the edge for the run and is very good in small spaces using a variety of moves and twitchy traits to win. His motor never stops.
No, and he never did in Tennessee either leading to Vrabel literally despising him. Idk why we signed him when the whole motto of this team is based on HITS and currently, he seems like a lazy fuck.
This sub was really kind about Eddie Goldman, giving him all the benefit of the doubt when he struggled to make practices
Then he quit football. I see a similar fate for Davis.
He said so, then he came back on the Falcons post COVID and pulled the same shit
He didn’t like playing football but wanted to keep making millions. I really can’t judge him, it’s not like the NFL isn’t worth robbing. Just sucks he was a Bear
Low-key I’m still super concerned about our interior line, Tevin is often injured and a little more inconsistent than we would like to admit, Bates was almost exclusively a back up last year, Davis was very inconsistent when he played, fairly injured, and as you noted never practices, Sheldon was a decent starter last year, but nothing more. No talented young players behind them either.
All in all good news. 2 min drill is going to take longer to get installed, it’s fast paced and on a shrinking field if you’re doing it right.
13 of 15 is great for Caleb, and also good news that the defense remains opportunistic and capitalizes on mistakes.
Rookie DE showing stuff is solid, it’s obviously early and they’re non contact practices so DL had an advantage (and defensive coaches have a tendency to whistle plays dead a little quicker and count more sacks) but still. Showing out within his opportunities is nothing but good.
Based on everything coming in from reporters:
* Caleb Williams in 11 on 11 looked good
* Caleb Williams with 7 on 7's good for most part but INT from Kevin Byard. Edit: Courtney Cronin saying he went 13 of 15 completed here and the INT was likely a miscommunication on route, flus clarified saying it was an extra hitch and Caleb was late over the middle and its one of those things he has to experience.
* 2 Minute Drill most of the struggles for today on 1st team offense. Punted on both 3 and outs with OL Pens.

The fact we’re talking about an extra hitch with Caleb being a problem is music to my ears
With Trubisky and Fields they weren’t ever at the point where we can talk about extra hitches being one of their biggest problems
His problem that he never really overcame is that he had a long delivery so what initially showed open on the short/mid passes ended up not being open or missing the break. The extra hitch just exacerbated the problem rather than being the sole problem.
Fields made multiple reads all the time. It didn't matter because he didn't throw the ball on time. That was because (a) he lacked anticipation and (b) **he had extra hitches**. It was absolutely a big part of his problems.
You’re 1000% right. I’ve been ringing this bell for years to the tune of downvotes back when everyone was smelling Fields’ shit and calling it perfume.
It’s not talking about his throwing motion. It’s talking about the route. That’s why Flus says “it’s something he has to experience.” I imagine it’s some sort of route design he wasn’t used to or had done in a live drill before.
This is the full quote. Do you usually just make things up?
“Those are the experiences that Williams has to go through. He has to go through his progressions, which he did. He was right on his progressions,” Eberflus said. “Then he took a hitch, and the ball should have come out, and he took two hitches, and it was late over the middle. That’s always dangerous when you do that.”
Fields running was literally not at all the problem lol just holding the ball too long and a loopy throwing motion. Also seem like he had some pocket awareness issues, though it seemed that got a bit better last year
1: its almost like these beat reporters think minicamp is just for offense. Why does defense even show up? It also seems if the defense is doing good = bad day?
2: the QB that hasn’t taken snaps in an actual NFL game yet is struggling against an arguably top 5 defense in the league? So when he goes against worst defenses, he’s bound to flourish.
There’s no such thing as easy teams; they’re all professional, so I’ll treat them all as such. Going off that, we beat the Lions once, should’ve been twice, same with the Vikings; was 1 Mooney catch from beating the Browns, the pack, stomped the Falcons…7 of the 13 games were from teams with 7+ wins. And in that span we had by far the most takeaways, #1 in QBR, rush, points allowed…we were top 5 in literally every metric, many top 3.
And even if it was true that they were top 5 due to the lack of good competition, then by default that rule will also carry into this year. Our schedule is favorable, especially early on. Tough stretch of divisional games at the end but I think that helps us, I’d much rather play Detroit or GB late in the year to give all the new guys time to settle in.
What I would give for Booker to be the steal of the draft.
This year you hope he can come in and get some sacks and pressures on 3rd down. Still has a way to go before he's built like an NFL DE and can be reliable as a run defender, but his "unorthodox" style might give folks some trouble as a rusher.

I miss that team 😢
crazy him and Hester were rookies on that Super Bowl team.
I’ve got Urlacher Briggs and Tillman. Who’s the fourth HoFer in the back seven? We talking about Brown?
Career cut short by injuries, but ya Mike Brown was on that trajectory, so I give him the nod.
That’s my hope. I’m not going to stress the result, but getting someone good within the rotation would help the glaring hole on the team.
My point being if Poles and Co don't think they'll get production from DRob this year his roster spot will be given to a vet on a short term deal.
Ah yea, I feel that. It would be dope if he did have a breakout even if it ends up with him getting paid by someone else. Just seeing talent develop from players like him would genuinely help paint the picture of flus being much better at his job than I think he is lol

I appreciate your optimism sir
Don’t forget a franchise punter

Even if he were to become 75% of Crosby that'd be such a smash home run.
No real data behind this but I feel like he's going to be really good for the Bears.
Has Nate Davis ever practiced lmao
Nate Davis Dinners w/ Flus: 1 Nate Davis Practices w/ Flus: 0
No, and he never did in Tennessee either leading to Vrabel literally despising him. Idk why we signed him when the whole motto of this team is based on HITS and currently, he seems like a lazy fuck.

He quit cuz of covid I thought, no?
He said so, then he came back on the Falcons post COVID and pulled the same shit He didn’t like playing football but wanted to keep making millions. I really can’t judge him, it’s not like the NFL isn’t worth robbing. Just sucks he was a Bear
I ummm did not know that, and that kinda changed my opinion on him. Was a big fan. Glad it was the falcons and not us, though lol.
No. He’s done the bare minimum his entire career.
How was the punting? Gotta keep tabs on our 4th Rd steal.
https://x.com/PatTheDesigner/status/1798072803306205495 A nice casual 70 yards here almost
Going to have to get a bigger practice field
OP delivers! Wow that's an amazing punt.
He booted that mf
🤯 That looks fake lol
Shiiiieeeeeyyyy
The fact we’re talking about an extra hitch with Caleb being a problem is music to my ears With Trubisky and Fields they weren’t ever at the point where we can talk about extra hitches being one of their biggest problems

His problem that he never really overcame is that he had a long delivery so what initially showed open on the short/mid passes ended up not being open or missing the break. The extra hitch just exacerbated the problem rather than being the sole problem.
In terms of Field’s biggest problems with playing QB His extra steps were not one of them
Do you know what a hitch is?
Do you know what multiple reads are? Or anticipation?
Fields made multiple reads all the time. It didn't matter because he didn't throw the ball on time. That was because (a) he lacked anticipation and (b) **he had extra hitches**. It was absolutely a big part of his problems.
You’re 1000% right. I’ve been ringing this bell for years to the tune of downvotes back when everyone was smelling Fields’ shit and calling it perfume.
Anticipation is literally throwing without the extra hitch. Routes are timed with the footwork to throw on the first hitch.
It’s not talking about his throwing motion. It’s talking about the route. That’s why Flus says “it’s something he has to experience.” I imagine it’s some sort of route design he wasn’t used to or had done in a live drill before.

With Trubisky the problem was an extra mile 😂

This is great, thanks for collecting all of this info and summarizing it also!
Completion percentage in OTAs..... Stop this
Hey now, it’s mandatory veteran minicamp. /s
So what you are saying is, 18 is exactly where he should be. If not a little ahead of where he should be?
Adam Jahns said it was a good day with one interception. Now it’s mixed results? I guess results are in the eye of the beholder!
Zack said it was mostly good in regular drills but the 2 minute drill was what was bad
Yeah, I just saw the collection of tweets OP posted. I should read before commenting! Oh well lol
Hey man, we Bears fans. We supposed to react first and read later.
Well good thing we’ll always be up by 50 so the 2 minute drill won’t be a problem 😅
Always has been
Seems to be a good practice overall. Both offense and defense going back and forth. No one side dominating
This is what you want in the grand scheme of things
1: its almost like these beat reporters think minicamp is just for offense. Why does defense even show up? It also seems if the defense is doing good = bad day? 2: the QB that hasn’t taken snaps in an actual NFL game yet is struggling against an arguably top 5 defense in the league? Simmer down on top 5 brotha they feasted on easy teams last year. They're good but NOT top 5
There’s no such thing as easy teams; they’re all professional, so I’ll treat them all as such. We really talkin’ ‘bout practice 🤦♂️

Rock Chalk.
It is minicamp.
Ah here come the excuses lmao
Just go away. You've been nothing but negative. So annoying. ![gif](giphy|QqostCXAat440)
Good to see you're still trolling. I thought you'd given up
Oh god this guy is back
He’s been busy over on r/nfl trying to find anyone to read his comments
Your commitment to the hate is impressive. Stupid. But still impressive.
Sorry Justin fields turned out to be so bad. You will recover one of these days
