This nation-wide support for the Cubs is a direct result of the years when WGN was a Super Station being seen on cable systems all over the nation. A lot of folks became Cub fans during that era.

Ok_Lawfulness_3952

That's how I became a cubs fan. I'm from West Virginia but came home from school everyday to a cubs game on!!

Marmaduke57

Responsible for my Cubs fandom.

kbergstr

Was born in Chicago, but moved around a lot-- I was able to follow the cubs from TX, to PA, to SC and back to PA during my childhood-- always a good way to connect with family back in Illinois.

DrewDAMNIT

Can confirm.

GoBlueAndOrange

They weren't on cable. They were ota.

fedman16

What the Hell are you talking about? WGN was over the air in Chicago, but the Cubs were certainly on Cable when WGN became a Super Station. Cable systems all over the country had WGN. How do you think comedian Will Ferrell, living in Los Angeles, came up with the idea to impersonate Harry Caray - he used to watch Cub games on Cable.

Blue_Osiris1

Shame those days are over in favor of the almighty dollar. I hope the Cubs don't become one of those small market teams in 20 years because only 5-10 games a year were available for free.

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

I don't think any baseball team in the country is available over the air nationwide anymore, which is a damn shame

EBtwopoint3

The Cubs are never going to be a small market team lol. Chicago is huge.

Melodic_Ad596

Chicago is the Second or Third biggest baseball market in the country and we only have to share with the White Sox as opposed to a team with a robust fanbase like the Mets. What in the world are you talking about.

archy319

I saw the Cubs hadn't played in Seattle since 2019. That's kinda crazy. I wasn't originally a huge fan of the new schedule structure originally, but every other year being in every stadium is kinda cool.

mnpeanut

Could be crazier: We took the kid to Target Field so he could see his Giants in 2022. This was their first trip to Target Field and thus the last team to make their first appearance there. Target Field opened in 2010.

Exatraz

I live in Seattle and jumped for tickets the moment I realized they were in town this last weekend. It was an amazing time and my 1yr old's first baseball game. Love the new schedule but miss wgn still. At least they are never blacked out on MLB.tv here in Seattle.

RedGreenPepper2599

I’m like you, wasnt a fan of playing less division and inter national league games. I love the balanced schedule though I wish we played teams like the Dodgers more

kbergstr

I like being around the country, but the lack of division games is weird. Not playing a single division game until May doesn't rest well with me-- hell, we don't see the Reds until almost June!

archy319

Sure. I didn't go from 'not a big fan' to 'this is the best schedule ever' because we played our first series in Seattle in five years.

-Hey_Blinkin-

My wife and I were there last night and today. Almost felt like Milwaukee with how well represented our fans were. Also, their fan base and city have been super chill. We had a great time.

oliyoung

Saw a crowd shot, genuinely thought it was Wrigley for a second

ZXD-318

The Cubs do travel well.

trulyminetoo

We went up Friday night - it was awesome to see so many Cubs fans. Way more than I expected to see.

funkoramma

I was there Saturday and Sunday. The “Let’s Go Cubbies” chants were just as loud as the Mariners’s chants. So much fun! I love that we get the Cubs in the PNW every other year now.

fajita43

i wanna criticize people for holding the W flag upside down... but then again, i've been pretty blasted at end of games in the past and i know i would have had trouble spelling "cubs" let alone trying to figure out which side is up/down/where'smysouvenircup/barryiloveyou!!!! haha

Exatraz

I took my son on Saturday. It was a blast. Cubs fans everywhere and you could hear us drowning out mariner chants
