If it’s got no issues and a full MOT then by the current consensus opinion you have made a terrible mistake and the cheap tires will inevitably kill you
Thank you, for what it is I don't think it's *that* bad, especially for the mileage, I got it for my GF mainly due to pregnancy so we need a 4 door, so I do plan on taking care of it.
It seems pretty good, its just an awful lot of money for such an old car. I know the market is shite right now but yeah, guess you gotta take the hit a bit 🤷
all the way, because you ask before you buy it. that car might need a lot rubbers and belts changing, as its done under 3200 miles a year. it also depends on the service history.
Cars don’t like sitting around.. rubber belts and bushes dry out etc.
Low miles, particularly very low miles for an age, does not equal guaranteed reliability.
Also use wears them out before they get a chance to age out, a car with more miles will likely have received replacements in its history meaning they're all newer.
It’s not just the miles, it’s the age too, if a car isn’t used much you’re less likely to look after it and change the perishable items. It’s why every maintenance item on a car has a distance and time interval.
Also cars don’t like being sat doing nothing they want to drive, as keeping the engine, trans, and bearings moving keeps them supple and greased or oiled.
Rubber materials tend to contain compounds that keep them supple and elastic. Regular use keeps them in-phase (think dissolved) and the opposite can occur if they are not used i.e. you get phase separation and degradation of the rubber.
Not answering OP's question because I'm too dumb to know whether that's a good deal or not but I've never seen a brand turn around its image the way Skoda managed to do.
When I was in school, Skoda and Lada were punchlines. They were bywords for shitty. The ultimate putdown was 'your dad drives a Skoda'. Even if said dad didn't drive a Skoda. And now? Perfectly respectable and fine brand. Like I say, I can't think of any other brand, car or otherwise, that has managed to turn around its image so comprehensively.
Gives me confidence in being able to sell my 60-reg Fabia for £1k privately (mine has 120k miles)
I’ve seen plenty worse out there for more money. Just budget for the odd niggle here and there..
Nowt wrong with a fabia, as long as it's had regular maintenance. Nothing's 100% reliable though so keep a pot of money to one side for anything that crops up.
Had one of these a few years ago and still recommend them. Really no-frills transport and the 1.4 16v means it's decent on the motorway and keeps up with modern traffic.
I found the gearshift painfully long and slow for such a willing little engine and there's not much fun to be had. But as a A-B thing it's hard to fault if it's in good nick.
Yeah the gear throws are really long I've noticed haha, but once it gets up there it seems to hold it's own. I've gotta get used to the damn reverse gear, it's one of those ones you push down and move to the left then up... After years of right and back it's messing with me 😅
I have one and it’s a great little car. It’s had a few issues sure but what cars this age haven’t? Repairs have always been reasonably priced, but I’ve found that’s as much garage dependent as anything else. Mines a 55 plate, 1.4 Elegance too and I love it. It was 10 yrs old when we bought it, with 39K miles on the clock, it’s at 120K now so it’s done us well. I will say, I ended up taking the parcel shelf off for a while, so we could get the big pram in while the kids were young.
Paid a bit over the odds for it but I guess not too much from a dealer. MOT history suggests a lot of bushes, and the exhaust (usual low mileage car issues) have been done.
Does it come with warranty or "sold as spares/repairs"?
The warranty is in addition to not instead of your statutory Consumer Rights. The warranty only really benefits the dealer as if there is an issue within the first 6 months it would be covered by your legal rights. But with the warranty they can claim any repair cost back from that, if it isn't covered they will try to use the warranty rejection to confuse the customer into paying up or going away.
Nope. Under the consumer rights act 2015, a dealership must sell a car of satisfactory quality. Saying it's for spares or repairs doesn't cut the mustard.
This is why dealership owners tend to do this privately from their homes or via personal accounts on online selling platforms like eBay.
Everything helps. It's not exactly a rip off, but it's also far from a bargain. 6 months warranty for £1395 Vs maybe £800 privately with no recourse. Dealer's gotta eat. Good luck with it!

MOT till April next year, 57k mileage. Drove it for like 15 mins seemed ok. I can get tyres if need be.
Looks alright to me mate.
Thank you, for what it is I don't think it's *that* bad, especially for the mileage, I got it for my GF mainly due to pregnancy so we need a 4 door, so I do plan on taking care of it.
Yeah I think it's alright. If I'd have seen that when I bought my Astra, I'd have gone for the Fabia instead.
Unfortunately there is next to no room in the front passenger seat when you adjust it to put a baby seat in the back. I know, I tried!
It seems pretty good, its just an awful lot of money for such an old car. I know the market is shite right now but yeah, guess you gotta take the hit a bit 🤷
I managed to get a hundred quid off. So 1395 in the end. For a 57k mileage car with a full years MOT I don't think it's that bad tbh.
That’s about as cheap as you can get for a car with a year MOT now. Market is crazy..would’ve been half this price a couple of years ago
Bargain
Can you fit a pram and baby gear in the back of a Fabia?
Nope. Safest place for babies/toddlers is rear facing behind the driver, too. No chance of fitting them behind the driver.
I meant a pram in the boot. I had to get rid of my 2001 polo when we had our first baby as the pram wouldn't fit in the boot
That's what I meant. A pram will not fit in the boot. Also, neither will the car seat fit in the safest position recommended.
Depends how tall the driver is
all the way, because you ask before you buy it. that car might need a lot rubbers and belts changing, as its done under 3200 miles a year. it also depends on the service history.

Because these of cause get lubed when you drive…
No but use causes it to flex, keeping it flexible and prevents the effects of oxidation and becoming brittle.
Also use wears them out before they get a chance to age out, a car with more miles will likely have received replacements in its history meaning they're all newer.

Often times at the VAG meetings we'd be told the most prestigious manufacturers of the group was surprisingly skoda. Unreal
I believe the two most profitable (I believe profitable is the correct word?) brands in Volkswagen’s lineup are Porsche and Skoda.
“Your dad drives a Skoda” is still a thing people say in school
For £1500 even if it lasts just a year, you’ve done well.

IDK you tell me cause I got the same model car (but the Ambiente) back in September.
I have one and it’s a great little car. It’s had a few issues sure but what cars this age haven’t? Good to see that it's got that many miles on it after all this time. This one is on 57k so hopefully there's a good chunk of life left in it then.
Know someone that has one. Million miles on it with no issues.
1. Good car, good engine. Solid
As the market currently stands for run around car you've done very well there I'd say
Paid a bit over the odds for it but I guess not too much from a dealer. MOT history suggests a lot of bushes, and the exhaust (usual low mileage car issues) have been done. Does it come with warranty or "sold as spares/repairs"?
Well it's from a dealership so by law they have 6 months
I got a 6 month warranty with it.

More than likely gonna be sold as seen simply due to the age of the car
A used car dealership can't do 'sold as seen'
They can - "Selling as spares or repairs" is the same as sold as seen
Nope. Under the consumer rights act 2015, a dealership must sell a car of satisfactory quality. Saying it's for spares or repairs doesn't cut the mustard. This is why dealership owners tend to do this privately from their homes or via personal accounts on online selling platforms like eBay.
Think you can sell as spares and repairs but the customer isn't able to drive the car away, that way it counts as scrap rather than a vehicle.
If it's with a warranty, kinda justifies the price. NOT that the average dealer warranty counts for a whole lot anyway lol.
I managed to knock him down a bit, I got it for 1395 instead of 14. Not much but still 😅😅
Everything helps. It's not exactly a rip off, but it's also far from a bargain. 6 months warranty for £1395 Vs maybe £800 privately with no recourse. Dealer's gotta eat. Good luck with it!
No, but your consumer rights do.
Nothing wrong with it at all. isn't it just a rebadged VW
Cheap insurance? What planet is this guy on?
It is cheap, £65 a month for me. Cheaper than my 1.1 Colt that died, that was £76.
I’m paying £134 a month on my 540i 😭
Hasn't that got like 300 summat horsepower though? Not surprised 😅
The posh man’s golf , should see you well to be honest
