Well good news for you since the site the E38 in OPs post also have B12 for sale: [https://www.hkperformance.co.uk/details/used-car-in-manchester/bmw/alpina/b12-5.7l-ekat/1050360/](https://www.hkperformance.co.uk/details/used-car-in-manchester/bmw/alpina/b12-5.7l-ekat/1050360/)
And it looks lovely!
I had an RX7 3rd gen back in the late 2000’s. It was actually pretty reliable, but maintenance heavy.
I used to do a full oil change every 3 months and it would eat rear tyres.
The biggest fear people have with these cars is the rotor rips cracking/ breaking/ exploding and taking out the engine + turbos.
This is caused by oil starvation due to blocked oil hoses to the rotor housing. Simplest solution used to be to change the hoses, and add Castrol TT two stroke oil into the fuel tank at every fill up.
Also expect sub 15mpg on a good day..
Bit of wierd one but a mitsubishi Evo X, used to obsess over them when i was a kid and could realistically afford one now but not sure it be appropriate haha.
Problems with the SST landed me some huge bills and still didn't get to the bottom of the problem. The Yaw control pump also showed early signs of issues.
Got rid and ended up with an M135i, comparable in a straight line but without the cornering fun the evo had. The S-AWC was really something else.
For me the evo 9. I just love how the 7, 8, 9 looks. I remember racing with it in nfs most wanted (05) and top gear racing it against a gallardo which made the car something of an obsession for 10 year old me
I’d probably go for an Aston Martin DBS, like the one in Casino Royale. I’ve always fantasised about absolutely nailing one round tight bends on country roads, dressed in a nice suit on the way to a wedding or something, just hearing that V12 screaming at me, whilst playing the James Bond theme on repeat.
I think about it a lot.
If anyone wants to dump £100k into my bank account so I can live out this dream, please DM me.
Bentley flying Spur. Such a handsome car in saloon form. You can pick them up for less than 20k which is very tempting but when it comes to service and parts they are still very much a 100k+ car
Man I'd love to own the 750iL a stunning car, I'm a huge hip-hop fan and that is the car Tupac Shakur was rolling in on the day of his unfortunate death.
In fact the car he passed away in is up for sale, for a whopping $1.7 million after being restored.

Don't forget the MMT (Mercedes Maintenance Tax). At least you've been able to enjoy that V8 symphony. I wonder if this is the last opportunity for an "affordable" V8
I had a e38 730i I paid £200 for. Lasted a year with absolutely nothing done to it.
3 different coloured panels, fake alpina wheels, gearbox that held limiter for AGEEES till it kicked up, no exhaust from before center box, fuel tank that leaked above half a tank, 8mpg average.
FUCKING LOVED that car as a 20 year old student for no fucks given fun times.
Rear end sideways constantly, exhaust setting off alarms, cruise control for the longer trips, left at an airport for 3 months and started right up, jumped on hump back bridges.
General fucking around as a student while it refused to die at all.
A de-restricted C216 CL65 Bi-Turbo. 1,000 N⋅m of torque and a properly wafty and relatively under-the-radar way of hitting 200mph. No way I’d ever have the stones to keep one on the road myself though.
A Ford Cougar. I had to miss on one that was 2000 euros because it costed too much to insure, repairings were extremely expensive and spare parts were basically non existing in my country so you'd have to import from the USA. If you had a body part problem, the cheapest thing to do would be to buy another Cougar and scrap the body parts from it.
When I get older and have money I'll probably buy one just to make the 22 year old me happy who wanted it so much
A second one would be an RX-8. I love Wankels as a concept but they're stupidly expensive to maintain. And they have tons of problems as well
A man of true taste! I was looking at this exact car earlier today! I would personally have an HDJ80 series Toyota Land Cruiser 4.2 diesel manual triple locked.
No running costs, you say? I assume servicing/belts/maintenance/scary big engine repairs included in that…
Something Aston Martin with a big V12 up front please :)
The McMerc SLR. I've always found it strikingly beautiful.
I'd love to own one for a while so I can experience how wildly impractical it would be for nipping the kids to nursery in.
An old 70s B Body Mopar.
If I had the money to buy it, then a 71 Hemi ‘Cuda, but considering they’re north of 7 figures, I think I could settle for any other classic muscle from the same generation.
My dream car!!!! But I have never version because of the insurance price, fuel economy, technology and safety. For £17k you can have a 2017 BMW 5 - that will be superb in any way compared to the old 7. I wouldn't go backwards.
Old rolls Royce hearse.
Comfortable, and you'll get let out of most junctions, as well as it being really funny to go shopping/on holiday/ drive fast in
I would have to expend every penny I had and sell off some stuff to make up for it, but a Manual S1 944. Loved them since I was a kid, and being able to drive one everyday without worrying about any costs would be the ultimate dream.
My father in law had a 96 750Li V12 first owner was BMW as its showcase, had every option on it, being a passenger was quiet and didn't feel a bump, like floating on a magic carpet, nice place to be on a long journey!

Big Aston Martin fan via my father, and if I had the cash, I'd snap one up in a heartbeat...but I'm probably a rare case as an Aston fanboy and a Bond fan, where my preferred Aston is the 1987 V8 Vantage from *The Living Daylights* over the 1964 DB5 or any of the 21st century ones from *Die Another Day* or any of the Craig films before *No Time to Die*.

850i or an old V12 merc.
850i , you beat me to it 🫡
Going up in price as we speak.
AMG 600 SEC 🤤
850i yes 100% or 500 SEC coupe

The B12 version of the E38, or a Alpina B10S. mid '90s German land barge with big engine is just 👌
Well good news for you since the site the E38 in OPs post also have B12 for sale: [https://www.hkperformance.co.uk/details/used-car-in-manchester/bmw/alpina/b12-5.7l-ekat/1050360/](https://www.hkperformance.co.uk/details/used-car-in-manchester/bmw/alpina/b12-5.7l-ekat/1050360/) And it looks lovely!
It's not black, thank god. what's the going rate for kidney's?
There's a photo floating round of an e38 cabrio and it just 🤌. That's my 'fuck you money' car.

3 rotor rx7. May as well go all out.
Same, the perfect toy Whens it works
I think the buying cost is more of an issue
Idk I’ve heard the rx7 is one of those cars that basically lives on a lift. Would still love to own one one day though. Deffo one of my dream cars.
People say that about Germans cars all the time too

Bit of wierd one but a mitsubishi Evo X, used to obsess over them when i was a kid and could realistically afford one now but not sure it be appropriate haha.
Exact same situation but bought one. Loved driving it. Hated owning it.
Why did you hate owning it? I enjoyed mine, well aside from the bills
Problems with the SST landed me some huge bills and still didn't get to the bottom of the problem. The Yaw control pump also showed early signs of issues. I’m with you on all your points there, my messages are also open to anyone feeling generous🙏
Jag XJS. 5.3 v12 one.
Daily drove a 6.0 later v12 for 2 years a while back. Can confirm will be retiring later than originally planned.
White manual 6 for me.
My former boss had one. Can confirm astronomical running costs and single figure MPG
Always wanted a 760li just to straight pipe it. Would be hilarious
Colin McRae era Impreza
Reading your comment, I instantly felt a sharp pang of nostalgia, right in the jugular.
The ones with 555 sponsor down the side just hit me with a wave of nostalgia.
A lady I worked with and her husband had a genuine Tommi Makinen Evo 6. The noise that thing made. Ooft.
I'd buy another TVR Tuscan, I imagine. I miss mine. So very much.

Excuse my ignorance (that's a beautiful BMW) but why is it so expensive? Is it rare?
It's an alpina.
That one isn't (B12s were LHD) but it is a good replica
Damn haha, fair enough :)
I have odd tastes, but it would be one of four. Either an Aston Martin Lagonda, Marcos Mantula, Citroën SM, or Citroen BX 4TC.
C63 Merc, the one with the 6.2 litre engine.
I daily the estate version of that and I can tell you first hand, I'd love someone to pay my fuel and road tax for me 😂

Umm... Land Rover Defender (the old one) 😬
Nah... but almost: NEW Land Rover Defender, short wheelbase, V8. In blue or maybe green with a white roof.
Oooh, yeah, that'd be noice 👌
That's lovely that is. From about this point onwards, it's been downhill all the way for BMW.
