Start it on the wall, not in mid air

Puzzleheaded_Sea3463

This, you can't press the button until the finder is against the wall.

Zealousideal-Win797

Yea the first time you used it you activated it before it was on the wall. The second time you did it right and looked to be working fine.

mmitchener

Operator error.

hammerhitnail

Must be, I’m over here.

Grand_Entrance_2738

I think you have to place it on yourself first and say to your wife/significant other, “looks like it works”.

No_Albatross1975

Correct. This is known as a field calibration.

FlekZebel

Don't press the button until it's on the wall. It calibrates once you push the button but for that it needs to be on the wall.

Ok-Drama-3769

Get a stud buddy and throw that garbage out

mattmag21

Never had luck with zircon. Even the higher priced ones. Franklin m150 is cheap and reliable

passthedutch69

There's one way to find out. Grab a hammer.

schmoupe

I have tossed all my electronic stud finders out and been using a magnetic one. It’s one of those inventions that makes no sense. My CH Hanson never runs out of battery and stays on the wall while I get my pencil to mark the spot. Best 10 dollars

Sgam00

Plaster and lath walls?

guntheretherethere

Go slower

Ok-Interest-7220

Do yourself a favor and buy a Franklin. They’re worth the money.

JoeDirtRules13

Franklin sensors by far the best stud finder. Don’t have to calibrate it against the wall, and gives clear indication where the edges of the stud are.

Ok-Interest-7220

Yeah, I love mine.

RandomNumberHere

As someone who has owned several electronic stud finders: Buy a magnetic stud finder. I have the CH Hanson Stud 4 Sure magnetic stud finder and it has been SO MUCH BETTER than the electronic ones. Use the magnet to find your studs (actually to find nails and/or drywall screws going into the studs) and then drill CAREFULLY paying attention to any resistance. It’s easy to drill into studs. If the bit hesitates at all then STOP because you likely hit metal covering electrical or plumbing.

That very cleaver a stud finder!

HeroShitInc

Nah, it’s fine. Thats just a solid stud wall, studs every 2 inches.

shabidoh

https://youtu.be/zLiAUFUenHk?feature=shared Watch this video. It explains it very simply with an exposed stud. Mark each edge and that's your stud. Measure over 16" and perform the task again.

Tthelaundryman

Firstly, those only work if you wave them over your junk first. Gotta zero in the stud finder to know what to look for. Secondly get good and don’t use a stud finder
