Bear0114

I'm 36, and one of my earliest TV memories was watching the Bambi episode of The Young Ones, the University Challenge. Still has me in fits of giggles to this day.

FaceMace87

I have that episode to thank for teaching me that Crop Rotation in the 14th century was *considerably* more widespread after John. That tidbit has been invaluable to me.

Bear0114

I'd like to think it was integral to the career path you chose, solely because of this episode's trivia inspiration.

Migeman

I saw this episode before I ever saw University Challenge, I was so confused when the teams weren't above each other. Up Scumbag!

Bear0114

This, so much this! I always thought for the longest time that they were above each other, and there was a staircase to get to the higher one!

daddyrchu

So here goes with the starter for 10. What is the record number of marshmallows stuffed up one nostril?

PatsySweetieDarling

I can’t hear Ace of Spades without going…. “To the station!!” “Music!”

Bear0114

"Are you dancing?" "Are you asking?" "No." "Well piss off then!"

Georgeisthecoolest

You hum it… I’ll smash your face in

Cuclean

Vyvyan kicking his own head down a railway track will always be one of the funniest things from my childhood.

pastiesmash123

41 here and its one of my youngest memories too, my sisters used to watch it. Loved it so much I went as Vivian for one Halloween. Spiked hair and wearing a bin bag with milk bottle tops stuck to it

tropicnights

I still have the Vyvyan jacket I made for Halloween probably 15 years or so ago now. Never worn it since but so much love was put into that jacket. Perhaps I should find an orange wig and take it out for another spin.

Bear0114

Top tier fancy dress there!

Cussec

Scumbag college: Neil , is the name of the WhatsApp group my 4 daughters use to communicate to each other. Ages 11, 15, 20, 23

Bear0114

I have to admit, that's the best thing I've heard so far.

gollopini

Me and my mates did this episode for an end of school play. Went down an absolute charm!

Dogstar23

Rik, Britain!

UpDownCharmed

... is it true, Bambi, you did a video nasty?

woolyweasel

P-rik

ukpunjabivixen

Yep! I remember this episode too! I’m 43

matt89015

Still can't believe bambi did a Disney-nasty

LaComtesseGonflable

I'm your age, and I really owe a colleague for lending me the DVDs ages ago.

KevinPhillips-Bong

When _The Young Ones_ was first aired in 1982, it came on past my bedtime, and I was not allowed to watch it. I soon found out more about it from kids at school, which made me all the more determined to see it. I remember finally getting to watch an episode at my aunt's house. My grandmother was also there, and she was quite shocked by the "strong" words the characters were using! Some of the phrases on that show have become a permanent part of my vocabulary. _Bottom_ is an all-time favourite. I think the "gas man" episode was the first one I saw, and I found it hilarious.

pip_goes_pop

Would you like a nice cup of steaming cold tea?

Y-Bob

My mate had a VCR and his dad used to record it every week. 'Somehow or other' he always managed to leave the video tape on the side when he went out on a Saturday afternoon so we got to watch it.

[deleted]

Oh. Have we got a video??

Y-Bob

Yes. We've. Got. A. Video.

zetecvan

Vyvian, this is for a toaster.

Unlikely-Ad3659

I could sometimes watch it if my dad was at work. The whole school re-enacted and repeated the jokes the following day, so by the time I went home I knew the whole episode by heart anyway.

MsAndrea

I hate tk break this to you, but I don't think this post is addressed to you or me.

KevinPhillips-Bong

Re-reading the thread title, I think you may be correct. Oh well, it's too late now!

MrTomDawson

I was going to say yes, then I remembered I'm not young by any definition anymore. Pain.

[deleted]

GAS MAN! GAS MAN! GAS MAN!

Scrudge1

DOES SOMEBODY LOOK AFTER YOU??

El-Deano

I NEED TO READ YOUR METER.

hellsfoxes

We make love! Not together…. on our own!

Askduds

I always find it surprising those 2 shows keep coming up and I'm apparently the only person in the universe that actually remembers Filthy Rich and Catflap.

[deleted]

I remember too, do you remember Bad News? I think it was called that, they had a band, good entertainment.

ouch-n3wsho3s

Saw Bad news twice at Reading Festival and Bristol (don't remember if it was hippodrome or Colston hall) where Vim od'd on vim

angry2alpaca

Check YouTube for Ade Edmondson's band The Bad Shepherds: punky songs, played in a folky style, on medieval instruments 😆 I discovered them accidentally at a festival when it started to rain and we bunked into the nearest tent. The Bad Shepherds came on, everybody stood up and the whole tent was bouncing immediately and for the next hour. One of those fantastic moments that will live with me for ever. Spellbinding.

Stained_concrete

I saw Bad News at the Hammersmith Apollo (odeon, then?). Such a strange mix in the crowd, like Young ones fans and Motorhead looking guys 50/50. Appropriately the show seemed to be half music and half arguing and fucking about. Very funny though.

theworst_thingabout

You should watch The Comic Strip Presents ... Mr Jolly lives next door.

Ar72

Escorts, bescorts; Come in if you're saucy

ouch-n3wsho3s

Nicholas bloody Parsons!

InfiniteGoatse

Bottom yes, absolutely. The Young Ones to a much lesser extent. I'm 37 BTW, so Bottom was still shown on normal BBC channels when I was younger.

soul1001

I’m 24 and used to watch Rik Mayalls Grimms tales we had on video. Even as I got older I watched bottom a lot (especially the Christmas episode where they find a baby)

wascallywabbit666

I've a friend from Spain who discovered Bottom a few years back, and thinks it's the funniest thing ever made. Rik Mayall died soon after he'd watching it through, and he genuinely had a period of mourning

a_n_d_y_4_6

HUGE Ade and Rik fan, very much so The Young Ones. Bottom did get a bit tiresome tbh, but still excellent. I grew up watching The Young Ones, I'm 47 now. Still absolutely love it. Was totally heartbroken when we lost Rik, such a funny man and a very good actor. He totally smashed everything he did. As does Ade. He seems such a lovely and genuine guy ❤️

colin_staples

Ade has just released an autobiography, can't wait to read it

a_n_d_y_4_6

Oh fantastic, I didn't know that. Cheers, I'll take a look 👍🏻

[deleted]

I saw Ade in the RSC production of Twelfth Night a few years back and he brought such an amazing and comedic dynamic to the role. Such a talented bloke. So glad I got to see him and Rik perform live together a couple time.

[deleted]

Also The Dangerous Brothers and Filthy Rich and Catflap 😃

angry2alpaca

Guesthouse Paradiso.

twofacetoo

28 now, caught the ferris wheel episode of Bottom on TV as a teenager, and I was set for life after that.

Nickibee

She had an earring? Yes…through HER foreskin!

bill_end

That's alright, the scottish are allowed to be transvestites.

HadjiChippoSafri

r/eddieandrichie

schofield101

I remember trying to bring in a bottom video tape when I was in year 5 to movie day at school. I didn't see anything wrong with it, my mum and teacher thought otherwise. Us all being 9 - 10 and all. Loved those two to bits, still quote them regularly throughout the week. I'm 29 now and consider them a major factor to my humour growing up.

Fancy-Prompt-7118

Omg yes. Bottom was and still is one of my favourite shows. I used to act out scenes for show and tell at my school as a kid.

gillgrissom

The young ones. Stone cold classic tv stuff. Always great they had a live band on. I think Flood, bomb, oil and bambi where the ones that stood out the most. I watch the full lot every 6 months or so. Bottom was just rick and ade having a load of fun. 53 here so i was about when they aired originally.

UpDownCharmed

Similar here, MTV would air The Young Ones right after 120 Minutes (1980s new wave music vids) late Sunday nights in the US Bambi episode still kills me to this day

Haventevengotatenner

I remember reading somewhere years ago that they had the music "guests" on every week because then they could say that they were a variety show and they got a bigger budget from the BBC.

lesterbottomley

Growing up The Young Ones, Spitting Image and Saturday/Friday Night Live were the must see TV for me. I knew more about politics as a tween than I do as an adult I reckon. Edit: just realised I'm so far out of the demographic this post was aimed at I think I'm going to go cry quietly in a corner

gazchap

I'm not \*as\* keen on Bottom, I thought it was getting quite tired by the end of the second series let alone the third (and the first couple of live shows were good, the rest not so much) But The Young Ones is an all-time classic. So many lines that are just living rent-free in my head from that show. //edit: I am probably not one of your 'younger people' though, I've just turned 40.

[deleted]

32 years old and I absolutely love those programs. I actually went to see Bottom Live in 2001 and 2003. I'm still very grateful that I got to see Rik performing live on stage before he passed. The Young Ones was one of my Mum's favourite shows so I was watching that as early as I can remember. There's also a really good documentary about it on Sky/NowTV that I'd recommend everyone who loves the show to watch. It shows just how much it shaped a lot of modern comedy.

ballakafla

Discovered bottom about 10 years ago when I was around 17 or so. Instantly fell in love. Went back and watched The Young Ones after which I liked but not as much. I think it's a bit more dated whereas the humour in bottom feels pretty timeless to me. Every now and then I think of something from bottom and will start laughing to myself in public. I wasn't really aware of Rik before he died but I totally get why everyone was and still is so sad about it. He was truly something else. I feel as though I mourned his death too even though I know that's not true hahaha. I do get these twinges of sadness if I watch him in anything when I think that this magnetic, radiant brilliant thing is no longer with us.

Frothingdogscock

Go watch Blackadder if you haven't already, ignore season 1. I think Flashheart was his ultimate character, Rik Mayall turned up to 11.

SirGrumpsalot2009

Hi Queenie! Is that a canoe in my pocket or am I just pleased to see you? Woof!

Nevorek

Always treat your plane like you treat your woman. Get inside her 20 times a day and take her to heaven and back.

BrotherVaelin

Have you ever seen Drop dead Fred? It’s an American movie where rik mayall plays a girl’s imaginary friend. Was was one my faves as a kid

UnlikelyHat5885

36, my mom showed me Kenny everett, the young ones, blackadder and dad's army etc. Even had some morecambe and wise thrown in. Such were the days of only being able to watch the vhs tapes already in the house

imrik_of_caledor

i just turned 40, i'm young...right?

colin_staples

Some of us watched them when they were first broadcast. And have loved them ever since. I still think that "Bambi" is an absolute classic. Fun fact : The Young Ones had a musical act in every episode because under BBC rules it became "light entertainment" rather than "comedy" and so had a bigger budget Ade Edmondson has released his autobiography this week, if anyone is looking for a Christmas present.

[deleted]

Saw Bottom live twice. Both times left with my face actually aching from laughing

thef1circus

I'm 15 and have seen a lot of episodes of Bottom and a few from The young Ones. Like you, also really lucky to have an old school family in that regard. But yeah, no one else my age I know has ever heard of them. That's their loss, they're missing out on some of the best comedies ever made

thef1circus

Edit: Same with stuff like on the buses, love thy neighbour, George and Mildred, Man about the house, open all hours, only fools and horses, etc

[deleted]

Brilliant shows mate 👌

Scrudge1

YOU BASTARD! ---- --punch

ElectronicBrother815

Gold, Frankenstein and Grrrrrr…. And I’m a Virgin! Absolute class 🤣

ninetwosixfour

Bottom was on when I was a teenager but I never really liked it that much. But I remember seeing Young Ones repeats and thinking it was amazing. I could watched Rik Mayall being Rick forever.

Jaydenn7

I'm 28 and was raised on my mum's old VHSs OG Scooby Doo, Brom, Mr Benn, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Wacky Races...

MDF87

Yep, used to love it as a kid! I grew up on slapstick comedy!

therealijc

I’m 41. I watched both throughout my childhood. Still watch it now

BartholomewKnightIII

Yes. [Still my favourite joke.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3S8bgLovik) His face is hilarious.

IDoMathsNotMath

Then, shortly after, his face when the washing machine spits out the washing. I rewind every time!

DiabeticNun

Yeah I'm 23 and I used to watch them as a kid with my dad, along with Vic and Bob as well. I remember The Young Ones more than Bottom though.

Shanks18

I remember watching the Dracula ep of Young Ones as a kid in the late nineties and only grew to love their work more and more as I grew up. It's fundamentally a core part of my humor and personality. Used to have everything on VHS, including the live shows and the big double tape box S1/2 of Young Ones. Still watch regularly, especially Young Ones with it's more surreal comedy. Have also started watching Filthy Rich and Catflap again on YouTube for the first time in over a decade. Bottom seems too sexually charged to share with my children just yet. But might see how Young Ones goes down.

SceneDifferent1041

I'm 42 and thanks to an older brother and a video player (yes we have a video), I grew up on Young Ones and Python.

[deleted]

34 loved young ones...

unneuf

I’m 21 and I grew up on The Young Ones, for sure

gingernuttt2000

Yep I'm 23 and can quote the whole S out episode

adamjames777

This post reminds me of a story, a very long story . . . Lasts about . . . . fifteen minutes. Once there was a big . . . forest, and in the middle of the forest . . . there lived . . . . some trousers, called . . . . Dave!

scottfish7

My 15yr old nephew has been made to sit down amd watch bottom, young ones, filthy rich and catflap, comic strip presents etc He's a connoisseur now 🤣

PlasticFannyTastic

I’m 47 and the mutual understanding and appreciation of Young Ones and Bottom references is how I have identified friends and comrades over the last 30+ years. RIP Rik x

ColdPebble

I'm 30. Grew up watching bottom, young ones, fawlty towers, only fools, last of the summer wine. Imo no shows currently shown come close to these..

StevieG63

I was 18 when The Young Ones came out. It never gets old, you complete bastards.

Hebespunk

42, and grew up with The Young Ones. All time classic. I always thought Bottom was an unfunny, unoriginal and a whole less clever rip off.

Y-Bob

Are you being saaaaaarcaaaaarstic?

DentinQuarantino

Sorry, never heard of either of them

Void-Flower-2022

21 this year and my dad used to show me them, alongside ones from when he was young (Sapphire and Steel was a favourite, RIP David McCallum, I also grew up on Bagpuss and Button Moon). We still watch compilations of them to this day. Rik Mayall was my hero.

PainterAnxious

I think you need some new friends.

MrDonly

No

MrDonly

But dick and dom in the bungalow was pretty good

WalksinClouds

Yeah nah two fellas screaming and hitting eachother with random objects. For like ten years. I think it was a show for the intellectually challenged. Bottom was like you asked two five year old boys to make a TV show. Only at least five year old boys acting like five year olds can be funny. Not a fan but it's popular somehow so I know I'm in the minority. It's just so puerile.

[deleted]

Understandable, I hope you graze your knee.

ukyorkshirelouis

Does the pope shit in the woods?

Omega_Warlord_Reborn

No but smells like a bear shit in your mouth! (I forget the episode but i'm sure Ade says that in response to Rik at some point in bottom)

SlightlyMithed123

Yes, me and my mates thought Bottom was the funniest thing ever created. I’ve tried to watch it again since and it was nowhere near as funny as I remember.

IceBeyr

I loved the Alan bstard show

Bum-Sniffer

I never saw the Young Ones until my late 20s and unfortunately I think it was too hyped up for me. I didn’t find it particularly funny or interesting. I really wanted to get into it but just couldn’t. I’m 34 fwiw. Bottom was much better though

mondognarly_

My brother and I somehow came into possession of a Bottom VHS tape as kids when we were almost certainly not old enough to be watching it. Which was part of its fun, that combined with how outrageous and anarchic it was made it feel like something we probably weren’t supposed to watch, and made it more exciting. The same went for late night Channel 4 around the same time. I’m not sure anything really feels that way anymore.

autisticmonke

Don't forget about Kevin Turvey! And Rik reading George's marvellous medicine was something to behold

Neobahamonkey-1

35. My mom got me into bottom and the young ones when I was a kid. We used to love sitting by the TV watching stuff like faulty towers, men behaving badly ect. Good Times 🥰

[deleted]

I’m 37 and grew up on them. I’m fortunate that my late father had an amazing sense of humour which he passed to me and subsequently my son.

drmarting25102

I was practically raised by these shows and money python.

[deleted]

I wouldn't say I grew up on it but I did watch a bit of Bottom when it was on late at night on Dave back when they showed programs that weren't Storage Wars. Never really watched Young Ones, but I do remember watching a Bottom DVD round a friends house once. Think we just loved how openly crass it was more than anything.

_Milanista_

Bottom, loved that show when I was a littleun’

deathawait5

25 and planning my first tattoo to be Drop Dead Fred, and yes I loved the Young Ones growing up

weirds0up

The Young Ones was not allowed on in our house when I was growing up and it actually got me banned from watching Jackanory because Rik was on it reading George’s Marvellous Medicine

Macapta

Nah, I was more a Faulty Towers and Father Ted kinda kid.

kahnindustries

I did. A close family friend was head of light entertainment at the BBC from the 80’s-90’s He signed off all these and pretty much all the other comedy from that era And was the producer for Mr Bean

buy_me_a_pint

I remember being in Singapore back in 2020 our tour guide a big fan of British comedy and watched bottom , me and him had a good time discussing which were our favourite episode

Leland_Gaunt87

Most people know The Young Ones and Bottom but who knows The Comic Strip presents...? Nobody ever seems to mention The Comic Strip.

rhysharman1

Surely have to mention guest house paradiso while talking about bottom and the young ones Got shown it as a young lad. Hands done one of my favourite films growing up

piggybibble

I remember a family Christmas watching Guest House Paradiso on VHS. My straight laced aunt was not impressed

[deleted]

This was literally a 90’s kid childhood..

C10e2

Absolutely. I'm 24 now, my mum showed me Bottom when I was 14 and I was hooked instantly. Never laughed so hard before. Such a shame that Rik Mayall died only few days later.

Loudsituation10

I’m also 22 and I grew up with the young ones. Not so much bottom

PhazonPhoenix5

I didn't grow up on them, but my mom did and for some reason our TV recorded Demolition, and it was the funniest shit I'd ever seen. Naturally I've caught up on Rik and Adrian's antics ever since. Even met him once, nice bloke :)

Bertie1983

My dad had the Bottom Live VHS. I can't remember how many times me and my brother secretly watched it, but we were in stitches every time.

AFFF_Foam

I'm 29 and grew up with these shows! If the right situation calls for it I still quote them, especially Dr Marten's Boots.

ReaverRiddle

Yep, Bottom especially. I had the first and third live shows on video and watched them when I was about 9.

Glittering_Sky4612

Certainly did

iDemonix

Early 30s and yes, but only because my family loved them. My dad and brother were huge fans of Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Young Ones, Bottom, Monty Python, etc, so there was always a VHS kicking about to watch one.

AverageCheap4990

Not The young ones a bit before my time but used to watch Bottom at my Grans house. She must have had quite a sick sense of humour to let her grandkids watch it.

hasthisonegone

I’m not young, but The Young Ones was the first tv show I was allowed to stay up for, still love it now!

Mehh_12

Yes we watched a lot of old show growing up that no one my age watched. Blackadder, Mash,Bottom, Yes minister were all regulars. Now starting to watch The new statesman. Old films were watched a lot too. Such as The producers(orginal),Blazing saddles, Airplane, Rat race etc.

vaguelypurple

Yes you ruddy bastard!

mykeuk

/r/eddieandrichie and /r/theyoungones are right here!

NapoleonStan

I’m 30 and Bottom is one of my favourite series, just re watched it all recently for the 100th time

abeeeabeee

I’m 27 and absolutely love The Young Ones, been watching it as long as I can remember! My husband is 36 and loves Bottom and Guest House Paradiso, but I’m not as fond. I think my favourite Young Ones episode is when Vivian is “pregnant” 😂

MobiusNaked

Watched The Youngs Ones first time it aired. So no I ain’t a youth. Brilliant TV though. Radical at the time.

[deleted]

Yessss! Grandparents raised me.

Kaiserhawk

No. idk how to accurately word it but the Young Ones viscerally disgusted me on an aesthetic level as a kid. I think I would see the odd clip of that guy with the stars on his forehead and it was too much for 7 year old me that I developed a negative association to the show which lasts to this day.

Careful-Increase-773

34 and I grew up with Bottom, Father Ted, men Behaving Badly, Only Fools n Horses

Pristine-Lab-8277

Same here! The Young Ones and Bottom were pure comedic gold!

rikki1q

I'm 41 and my older brothers are about 15 years older than me. So I grew up watching bottom, young ones, red dwarf. Probably shouldn't have been , I was probably about 12 ish but it's shaped my sense of humour ever since.

Dinna-Tentacles

My dad loves both those. Had all of Bottom on video, but it was a case of "we can watch that when you're a bit older" for a while. Sat down and watched some a few years ago and loved it. Though I don't think it would have done anything for me if I'd watched them as a wee lass.

Scarboroughwarning

Totally. And went to see them live when they did the Bottom Your, circa 1994

[deleted]

Thing is the more I've watched it, Ritchie in Bottom is at times channeling Tony Hancock, you can really see it when he turns to the audience and does a bit of pathos.

greylaggoosie

I’m 63, the best episode of the Young Ones was “Nasty” featuring The Damned.

JacquieTorrance

I loved both of those shows. I was so pleased to randomly see Nigel Planer in an episode of Lockwood & Co recently.

Jaikus

Not as young as you (30) but The Young Ones and Bottom were some of my favourite watches at a young age. My Dads a punk so Vyvian was a semi-idol for me haha!

Relative_Slip_6344

Bottom was faf. The camping one & Halloween lol

mfogarty

'Gasman' episode is still funnier than the latest comedy crap on TV.

peterhala

Have you seen The Dangerous Brothers? I particularly recommend the Torture episode.

A-Patriot-Spy

Strongly recommend listening to Ade Edmondson's Desert Island Discs from a couple weeks back. Very emotional listening to him talk about Rik. Such a great episode.

Fitzy1776

I grew up standing with Ukraine and climate change

Hyzenthlay87

I loved Bottom

Gobiego

MTV used to show Young Ones and Comic Strip Live, so even Americans who were around when MTV was relevant have seen it.

Slink_Wray

I'm 36, so probably no longer "younger", but it warms my heart to know that they have fans among Gen Z! Good on you for helping to introduce your friends to them too. If someone doesn't at least crack a smile during the gasman episode, they're probably not the kind of person you want as a mate.

kheeseborgor

I'm from Australia, but my dad showed me bottom and young ones, both are fucking funny

Personal-Zombie1880

I'm 33. I loved bottom. Rick and Ed were amazing!

magical-music-box

Candle in the eye.....ryto

nashile

The young ones was a bit before my time . I was too young . But bottom definitely

VioletDime

We actually got our English teacher to agree to take about 12 of us girls in the school mini bus to the Cambridge Corn Exchange to see Bottom. It must have been 94 or 95. Permission slips signed by parents, money paid, and no one knew apart from the us what we were actually going to see. Maybe they thought it was a Shakespeare spin off? Anyway, we snuck in a couple of cans of beer each, were stupidly overexcited and then Rik Mayal walks out on stage and towards the front row shouting 'Are you having a w*nk, Professor?!) and making the associated hand gestures. Well, our teacher looked horrified and spent the whole show with his head in his hands. Not sure if he was laughing or crying. There was also a scene with a blow up doll getting glued into Rik's trousers. Great night, great times!

Scott_EFC

Yes, plus Filthy Rich and Catflap which seems to be largely forgotten now unfortunately despite having Rik, Ade and Nigel Planer ( Neil ) in it and bring written by Ben Elton and Rik.

hellsfoxes

I’m 37 now but I certainly grew up on them. What legends. Would highly recommend the Bottom live shows if you’ve never seen them! The first 3 are absolute classics.

EAGLE-EYED-GAMING

I'm 16 and have watched the young ones and a few episodes of bottom.

genehil

I was a 30-Something Yank stationed at RAF Lakenheath in the 1970s and 1980s and I was a Young Ones Fanatic…. I’m in my 70s now and still remember what a great show it was. Bottom was after my time in the UK but I’ve caught it on Amazon Prime. Also perfect in all ways. I died a bit inside when I learned that Rick Mayall had left us.

LeFuzzyOtter

I did! 27 here. It's mostly from my parents, as they loved that type of comedy. I went to see Adrian live in Liverpool last week!

falkorv

Grew up watching Bottom with my cousins and was definitely too young. recently watched and I do not want my kids watching until teenagers at least haha

[deleted]

[удалено]

kugo

38 and used to love watching, think Bottom was 9pm on a Friday BBC 2. I still crease up now watching episodes. Young Ones got me into Madness too. Had no idea about the content until later in life. Need to start watching them again.

Samsterman

I never really watched The Young Ones, but Bottom was great growing up, the live shows are always amazing.

thebeesbollocks

Have to be honest, I’m 29 and was aware of the young ones because a friend of mine was obsessed with it when we were kids, presumably his dad had introduced him and was a massive fan. I didn’t like it at all, felt too dated to me and I didn’t get any of the jokes. That’s not the shows fault obviously, I was probably way too young to fully appreciate the comedy

Ginger_Hood1999

24, have loved the Young Ones for a LONG time, even own the DVDS.

blainy-o

Not quite, but I do distinctly remember watching Drop Dead Fred as a small child. The copy we had that was recorded off the telly was missing 2 small bits, the "(Woooow, cobwebs)" line, and the "No panties! NO PANTIES!!" bit. That was my first introduction to Rik Mayall. Then after that, I remember watching Guest House Paradiso on TV some time in the early 00s with that being my introduction to Ade Edmondson. Until I watched it again years later, the one scene I distinctly remembered was the bit near the end where everyone other than Richie, Eddie, and Gina Carbonara were violently sick after eating the nuclear fish. Especially the giant puke ball that Gino Bolognese unleashed. I didn't even know that half the cast of Shaun Of The Dead was in it for years. The first introduction to the TV series Bottom was when I was 12 or 13, in year 8 of school. I remember watching it on UKTVG2 (yeah that's how long ago it was, Dave before it was Dave). The first episode I ever watched was Gas. I watched it because I was flicking through the TV guide, saw it, wondered what it was, then saw the name Rik Mayall. I've not looked back since. The Young Ones I can take or leave to be honest. Series 1 was alright, but I didn't think much of series 2.

mattynutt

I went to see Ade Edmondson last night, he says Young Ones was 14 weeks of his life and Bottom not much longer. I watched them both of course and loved them, the man himself likes to point out that these we only small parts of his life.

New-account-01

Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Bottom I only got tail end of the young ones

Key_Communication_21

Neil..sat in the dark in a bath of mud ...."turn the light on please rik?" Rik..."why what are you going to do Neil ? Photosynthesise?"

oj-simpson32

Yeah, bottom is hilarious

sporticia

“Ha ha Vivian, you missed both my legs.” Young Ones: Episode - Oil Yeah, was def one of those moments in time that couldn’t really have happened before or after. Fond memories for sure ❤️🤣

[deleted]

If you liked those, you should check out ‘Filthy Rich & Catflap’ and ‘The New Statesman’.

CartezDez

A person of culture I see. Kudos to you, there’s treasures to be found if you’re prepared to keep an open mind

LuDdErS68

I'm 55 and I remember the first series being talked about at school. They were first shown in 1982 and 1984 so I was 14 and 16 years old.

I'm 35 and I adore them. I blame my parents for being loud about me not being allowed to watch it as a child 🤣

I'm 43 I feel young at the very least. I grew up watching them when they first come out., Just loved the grimeyness of both of them.

I’m 34, and you made me feel old

Pro-tip: Guest House Paradiso is a poor attempt at a return to the glory of Bottom. For true Bottom "movies", it's the live shows all the way! "Oi! Xylophone Fancying Old Regina Deserves Unusual Nine Inch Todger. Excited, Darling?"

My father has the DVDs for both of them, I grew up with bottom more than young ones but young ones found its way through eventually

Have you tried the new statesman with rik mayall? My favourite rik comedy after bottom. It helps if you understand a bit about the 80s culture but is good nonetheless.

My mum introduced us to the goodies and the young ones when I was a kid!
