Buy yourself a better version of something you use all the time. A good kitchen knife or pan if you cook or something like that. If you have a hobby buy something for that
A nice wusthof chef knife is about 100 quid and it will genuinely revolutionise how you feel about chopping up food. It’s sharp on another level and it stays sharp. I hone mine every six months or so and it breezes through tomatoes like they were nothing.
The only reason there are any other knives in the kitchen drawer now is so other people don’t ruin the good one.
My brother got me one and a sharpening set for Christmas 3 years ago. Mind boggling how much easier it is to cook with a knife that's properly sharp. But also is impossible to cook without it once you're used to it
Edited for a) typo and b) slight misinformation due to me forgetting how to structure a sentence properly.
ProCook knives, the Profession X50’s are really good knives for a reasonable price. They also do really nice Le Creuset style stoneware for under £100.
I’m so sorry I realised there’s a typo there…should be ale creusuet type dishes for under £100. So sorry to get your hopes up and instantly dash them again 😫
Yeah, I recommend a Samuel Staniforth Santoku, they're under £80.
Made in Sheffield, hand forged, the shape is ideal for everyday use. It's a really good knife for the money.
When sharpened it holds the edge for months, it's the knife I use at work (so you know it hasn't been babied). I find myself reaching for it instead of my Global, which is like £80 more.

something sensible and useful that will improve your life, e.g. small dehumidifier, plug-in clothes drier, heated blanket, electric blanket for the bed, your future self will thank you when it gets really cold
Serious question I have to ask, how does one know they need a dehumidifier/humidifier? So many people have one or the other, but I have no idea how they come to the decision to buy whichever one. I’ve just always left the windows open a crack and never thought the air in my house was particularly wet or dry?
If your house always feels just a bit cold regardless of the heating, or you have to leave clothes on the airer for more than 12 hours to feel dry, you should get one. We got a mid range one a couple of months ago (damp, draughty Victorian terrace) and it’s made an insane difference. Thought our problem was the lack of insulation on the external walls, turns out a decent chunk is just damp.
Hahaha I mean that sounds pretty good?
In our old house I got a humidifier because I had like, sore, scratchy airways when I woke up every morning. And all my plants shrivelled and died unless they were watered about twice as often as they should
A temperature/humidity monitor is like £3, that's the easiest way. My house is like 75-80%, I just got a dehumidifier for £90 and now it's about 60%, it feels a little warmer and no more condensation on the windows in the morning. I open the windows a lot during the warmer months which drops it a lot, but during the colder/wetter months it doesn't work well and obviously drops your temps a lot so heating costs more. My Dehumidifier costs me about 45-60p a day, so around £15 a month which I thinks worth it, dries my clothes quicker too (it has a washing mode, so I move it to by my airer for that). I never had the always feeling cold regardless of heating symptom though.
I have a humidifier and the main reason is because I have lots of tropical plants that thrive better in humid conditions. It also helps my hayfever symptoms during allergy season, particularly at night.
Those who have dehumidifiers tend to either want to dry their clothes quicker indoors, or live in houses that easily grow mould/damp.
Thank you! Honestly I’m interested, I have no clue about these things! My son has myriad allergies but none of them are hay fever, but if there are others which are alleviated/exacerbated by humidity, please let us know!
I believe moist air can help the symptoms of other allergies. People who live in tropical climates tend to deal with less environmental allergy issues and the moist air could be one of the reasons why (but also could be because the plants help to clean the air too). I only have hayfever (and even then, it's mild compared to some peoples) so I don't really know much about other allergies. You'll have to google!
I second the heated blanket. Makes a massive difference and I'm sure it's saved me loads of money as well. I put mine on whilst I'm washing my face/brushing my teeth and then by the time I get in bed it's all warm and cosy.
If it was me I’d get some running trainers or clothing as my kids take all my personal allowance for clothes normally.
£100 is better than a kick in the teeth!
This. Spent a horrendous amount on some Tracksmith gear when I got a promotion at work. Honestly like nothing I’ve ever ran in before, will definitely be buying more when I’ve financially recovered.
Holy cow, I was dimly aware of Tracksmith but your comment piqued my curiosity. Too rich for my wallet! Having said that I got a heavily discounted mega light Compressport t shirt for hot weather at an exhibition stall, after balking at their exorbitant prices, and it's like witchcraft. It's become my standard Christmas present now.
Just bought a really lovely plug in heater with a little remote, heats up the whole room. Very much recommend.
Alrernatively, you could get yourself a coffee machine and some pods.
Some nice cooking/baking equipment if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
Ditto gardening equipment.
A trip to the hairdressers! If you add a bit more on top you could get it washed, cut, coloured and blown out.
A lovely warm winter coat or a couple of oodies (think they're still on sale).

Pick appropriate bed size as required.
piggybacking on the coffee machine/pods idea - l’or currently have (at least did yesterday) a machine and 150 pods on sale for £60 reduced from 150 i believe? ordered it for my dads birthday and it hasn’t arrived yet but i’ve heard good things and it was a bargain!
the barista sublime straight from their website, i think they have black, white or red and the original price is actually 165 so over £100 off!
here you go :) https://www.lorespresso.com/en_gb/l-or-barista-sublime-bundle-150-caps-piano-noir?channable=01654869640034373933dc&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEm8VBpdQl3f-EyyIedJRslNL4k60Ar9oyDtck12M4VoYEjpjLrz1qxoCOjMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
This uses the old style nespresso pods which is the best kind of pod - you can recycle them with a £10 gadget and the pods aren’t locked down to one manufacturer
Might sound stupid, but…. Lego.
That’s what I would treat myself to (33m). Had a hard year or so with developments with the kids and with my daughter getting interested in Lego, I had got some for myself with some of the deals around. When the kids have gone to bed and I can sit with a set I enjoy it’s awesome.
The nostalgia, satisfaction and happiness I get from that is something I have missed for too long!
Lego's so expensive, we went over to the dark side and just get clones for 1/4 to 1/3rd the cost, got loads now and never disappointed. I've got a backlog of sets for myself too, Friends Apartment, Hogwarts, LR Defender, RazorCrest etc.
/r/lepin has a buyers guide with recommended sites. Also the aliexpress annual sale is on 11/11 and usually has some big discounts when you code stack.
This is good advice, imo. It's just enough money to find out if you'd like a couple of semi-luxury items - a cafetiere and quality coffee, some extravagant chocolates, premium socks, high quality eau de parfum, etc.
I would agree with this one. Bought La Sportiva TX4 GTX's a couple of months ago and they are some of the best shoes I've ever had. Waterproof, solid and they look good.
I got them for £100 on the nose from a German site I can't remember the name of. They took 3 weeks to arrive, and their customer service is non-existent. But I got the shoes for 60 quid less than market value, so well worth it.
If anyone is interested I will search out the name of the site.
I was given one last year and love it - I also discovered that it makes any hot chocolate drink much better, even the instant low calorie sort - so it isn’t compulsory to keep buying the expensive sachets, lush though they are. I got really into their chilli chocolate 70% but found I can make an excellent imitation by grinding up pure cocoa mass buttons and adding a shake of chilli powder.
In a sale it’s something like £65 for a starter pack - which is the machine, two mugs and a hot chocolate box iirc.
It sounds like a gimmick at first, I thought the same. But I was actually gifted one yet it does make nice drinks.
The machine is made by Dualit so not a cheap manufacturer. You don’t have to use Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate either, much as they do different flavours. Their ‘VIP’ club also offers 15% off with no annual cost, which would also bring the cost down if you do wish to stick to the brand.
I spend too much money on dumb crap, please stop being a bad influence lol. My sister has one and she bloody loves it. She will turn into a mug of hot chocolate soon enough
Well if you’re feeling lucky it’s occasionally given away by Hotel Chocolat or some other kitchenware/food companies.
I’ve had a few wins from competitions of that nature - it can be done eh
Go out for either a 'free' meal/night out or have a really fancy one that you wouldn't normally? Spend £100 on booze ready for the Christmas season maybe have a Christmas party with it? Put it towards a night in a Hotel? Experience/day out? Something to do with your hobby's/interests? Lots of possibilities even if it doesn't cover the whole thing it's still £100 "cheaper" than it normally would be.
Make sure to do the VPN Trick though to get it way cheaper, my last lot of Gamepass Ultimate was £90 for 3 years instead of £12.99 per month. It's a bit more expensive now but still way cheaper.
I'd see if you can find an Aircon, they're quite cheap this time of year.
I paid £130 for one that was down from £500 (it was second hand, but perfectly fine) and the 3/4 weeks of heat a year it's a godsend
£100 added to a more usual dinner out cost would get me and the miss somewhere higher end here. Maybe Michelin. Ideally tasting menu.
That's something that would feel special, memorable and shared
I’d second this!
My two purchases with my Christmas money from the last two years have been an electric fleece throw which set me back about £80. Plus a really good, feather and down filled coat which I got from Hollister of all places for £90 in the sale. It’s like going outside wrapped in a duvet and the difference it made in terms of reducing aches in my shoulders because I wasn’t scrunching up against the pain was well worth it. It’s going strong still as it heads into it’s 3rd winter.
If you're blasting through money on meal deals, maybe invest the cash in some new kitchen equipment that would encourage you to cook more? A nice big wooden chopping board, sharp knife, etc.
If you’re into proper tea or coffee they’re useful, but if not I don’t think they’re worth it. I have a small one (the size of a water bottle) that I use when I’m brewing loose leaf teas that are temperature sensitive. But for your bog standard cuppa it’s not worth it
My boyfriend got one - he’s really into proper coffee, boiling water will burn your coffee which is what gives it the bitter taste, you specify a temperature below boiling to get the best out of your coffee - but definitely not something that’s needed if you’re not fussed / a coffee snob.
I regularly use ours at 40 degrees for baking, sourdough starter, etc. Then at 60-80 degrees for herbal tea, 80 degrees for topping up coffee when it comes out of a mokapot, or sometimes even make Yorkshire tea at 90-95 so I can drink it sooner.
I usually have my coffee at 60c as I’m too impatient to wait for it to cool lol, and green tea at 80 or 100. It’s also useful in baking for hot water, where you don’t necessarily need boiling water, and with my carpet cleaner it’s a max of 60c water, so use it then too
A heated blanket or mattress topper - some of the better ones are pennies to run and are rota game changers these winter months especially if it’s just you in the house
you can either treat yourself to an insanely nice meal out or you and a few people to a nice meal out. alternatively, browse ebay for used robot vacuums - i got one recently and i haven't vacuumed in over a year now and it's pure bliss
Not much more than £100 but Camden Watch Company do some great looking watches. The No.29 for £120 looks beautiful.
Heard a Sonos Roam speaker yesterday and the sound was unbelievable. It’s £179 but only £79 if put the full £100 towards it.
Don't listen to comments about how much/little it is. £100 will be a lot to one person and basically fuck all to another. Personally, that would pay one of my bills for 3 months and still have some left over, so to me it's a lot.
Anyways, the serious comments have good ideas, new bedding, utensils etc or if you haven't got one, Asda sell slow cookers for £20, put stuff in in the morning and your teas sorted 👍🏻
I personally recommend getting a good pair of headphones if you like music. It's honestly a huge change to go from something like earphones to some good quality headphones. Maybe noise cancelling if you can find a good deal.
Buy one of them handheld gaming emulators with thousands of games preinstalled. Hours and hours of fun and you'll still have money for a few takeaways.
Well to be fair you don't know where they work? Op could work for a relatively small business that doesn't generate much revenue and £100 could be a lot.
I've worked for companies that make millions and received absolutely fuck all where as my friend works for a small independent Gym run by a local lad who gives all his staff £50 and a free night out.
I got similar this year and spent a little more (£129 all in to be precise) on a 3D printer from box. Entirely frivolous purchase but I am enjoying making little doodahs and learning about 3d design etc.
I've actually managed to make a few useful trinkets which I would otherwise have bought for a few quid on AliExpress so in time it will add up I'm sure. Plus I can print some toys for my son which he loves.
Buy yourself a better version of something you use all the time. A good kitchen knife or pan if you cook or something like that. If you have a hobby buy something for that

I hone mine every week 😂
I only use mine on whetstones
Do you freehand it or have you got angle guides?
Freehand, you?
Practising just free handing it with cheaper knives, but not confident enough with it yet to tackle a good one yet
Honing only straightens the blade, it doesn’t sharpen FYI
straightening a blade infact does make it sharper just temporarily
My brother got me one and a sharpening set for Christmas 3 years ago. Mind boggling how much easier it is to cook with a knife that's properly sharp. But also is impossible to cook without it once you're used to it

I'm a chef, and I have had the Profession X50 for 10 years and it's the best knife I've ever owned. I've bought it as a gift for 4 people.
Do they each have it for one week out of every four? I'm not sure how I'd feel if someone bought me a gift that I had to share with three other folk.
Haha. Funny, timeshare, but for a knife 🔪 🤣
Detectives hate this one simple trick
I only have 2 at the moment, but I’m looking to get a few more because they’re unreal.
Le Creusuet for under £100? Sign me up!
I’m so sorry I realised there’s a typo there…should be ale creusuet type dishes for under £100. So sorry to get your hopes up and instantly dash them again 😫
Ahhh damn! Tbh I thought the spelling was a bit off but I'm drunk so wasn't sure haha. Back to to the £400 dishes I go 😆
TK Maxx for bargain LC x
Yep! I got a ceramic casserole dish for <£30 😊
That's what I do when I get little bonuses. A nice little pot or pan, blow the whole lot one item that'll last a lifetime.
I’m getting to an age where even new plates or cutlery would be exciting and a nice treat.
I did this exact thing a few weeks back. I now have a dressing on my index finger.
A mattress topper, and some new sheets.
This is a good shout, some high quality bedding is a great investment.
We’ve recently bought premier inn pillows…they are great!
I knew you could buy their bedding but never heard of anyone who actually has! Might need to look into it...
You can even buy their beds! My partner worked for Whitbread and got a discount
I bought their mattress, worst one I've ever had, had to send it back within a month, every morning I woke up I felt like a cripple.
It's great I bought some last year and it's so much better than what I had before. I bought it from their website I can't remember how I found it.
Premier Inn merch.
Where/how did you buy them please? My mum loves them, might be the type of present she'd like

Yes! My 400 thread count Egyptian set from John Lewis feels like a dream.
I've got joules bedding that's lasted me years, very good quality.
Do you wake up feeling like you can get work done after sleeping in Joules bedding?
Certainly wake up full of energy!
The topper is good if the mattress is too hard. If the mattress is too soft it won't fix it.
I spent some nice money (nothing mega) on bedding a few years ago. It’s lovely, gives you that hotel bed feeling.
Go on, treat yourself, stick the heating on for half an hour

Hahaha I mean that sounds pretty good? In our old house I got a humidifier because I had like, sore, scratchy airways when I woke up every morning. And all my plants shrivelled and died unless they were watered about twice as often as they should
You can get little digital gadgets on Amazon that tell you the temperature and humidity
I don't mind dry air but i put the humidifier on when I start getting electric shocks that I wouldn't normally get.

Electrolux EXP12HN1W6 according to my eBay history. Bought in December 2021 for £130
If you haven’t already got one, a heated throw blanket!
Second this. I'm obsessed with mine. Just got back from a firework display and could've cried when I got under it!
One of my favourite things I own. It’s also one of the cats’ favourite things that I own.
Boring option: see if there any things you usually buy you can get in bulk at a cheaper price, will save you money over your next year.
If I buy food or drinks in bulk they get eaten and drunk twice as fast!
£100 added to a more usual dinner out cost would get me and the miss somewhere higher end here. Maybe Michelin. Ideally tasting menu. That's something that would feel special, memorable and shared
An enormous turnip.
A turnip shaped like a thingy!
Electric blanket/throw?
It's organisation that stops me 😂
A variable temperature kettle. And a heated blanket.

If you’re into proper tea or coffee they’re useful, but if not I don’t think they’re worth it. I have a small one (the size of a water bottle) that I use when I’m brewing loose leaf teas that are temperature sensitive. But for your bog standard cuppa it’s not worth it
Thank you! Makes sense now but we are a Yorkshire tea family, not really into the fancy stuff.
It’s also useful in baking for hot water, where you don’t necessarily need boiling water, and with my carpet cleaner it’s a max of 60c water, so use it then too
penny chews, half fruit salads, half black jacks.

£100 in premium bonds
A wicker basket full of garlic bread 🥖
Buy my mixtape.

A good, sharp cooks knife. Recommend Robert Welch.
I am obsessed with my robert welch knives. My current one is approaching 15 years old and is still perfect (with sharpening and care)x
Replace all your pants and socks. Nothing like a drawer of new undies.
New towels and new bedsheets. Decent quality ones.
Buy 100 scratchcards. Using winnings to buy more scratchcards. And so on.
~~A packet of Hobnobs.~~ Wait, £100? Two packets of Hobnobs. Go nuts.

Buy one of them handheld gaming emulators with thousands of games preinstalled. Hours and hours of fun and you'll still have money for a few takeaways.
A really nice piece of clothing.
Cheese. Easy.
A really good wool jumper. You’ll need a bit more than £100, though.
A big 'fuck you for the measley £100' sign to place outside your bosses/owners office or home.

Fucking hell don't know what you get but if we get a packet of penguins in the staff room it's a good day.
You get a whole packet..? Paradise.
Surprisingly I recieved £1000 last year as a bonus. That was nice. Don't think we'll recieve anything this year and I'm fine with that.

Aw don't get me wrong, I am grateful, I'm just looking for fun suggestions on what to spend it on :)
Spa day
I got similar this year and spent a little more (£129 all in to be precise) on a 3D printer from box.
