Very shocked with this one from a Wednesday perspective. Thought he would end up staying with us. Oxford are getting a proper workhorse. Good player for you. Our midfield is looking quite thin indeed… need to start getting players in.

WaWaW_Seattle

Keep the faith, pal ✊🏻 I'm sure Herr Röhl knows what he's doing Edit: that said, great signing for Oxford.

Cocoisatiger

Who do you think we’ll sign this window

grobins26

Chansiri will need to ask everyone for a few bob first before you get anyone pal

Cocoisatiger

I’m willing to chime in 10 quid 😭

fattyhashmash

Plus he's got a useful long throw, good at the old shithousery he will be missed.

jeck212

I think he’s more benefitted from being the only player of his type we’ve had the last two years - we look better with him in the team but I’ve never been personally impressed with what he does with or without the ball other than run a lot. Definitely room for us to upgrade and hopefully get a similar style of player who can either offer more going forward or be a better physical presence.

External-Tank-6188

I can’t disagree too much with your analysis. Whilst I’m shocked with Vaulks leaving, in the grand scheme of things, I think there is definitely room not just for an upgrade, but a player who can do Danny Röhl football as well.

He served well, top bloke, thanks very much, no hard feelings. Until he scores at Hillsborough

yorkie_lad

I agree, I would have preferred to keep him. Always seemed to put in 100% effort even when not first choice. Also, not football related but always nice to have good people around the club. Which he seemed to be with all his charity work. I think he’ll turn out to be a good signing for Oxford.

Morepork69

Same here. Great last season and a huge character in the dressing room. I'm trying to trust the process as Rohl is hopefully in control.......but let's be honest, anyone taking that for granted is a bit nuts.

Dr_Chocolate_2436

Fancy Jeff Hendricks on a free 🫣

HoldMyAwp

Half the team must have played for Cardiff now surely

Oggo28872

At this point they aren’t just a Warnock squad they are Warnocks squad

CardiffCity1234

Murphy Bennett Brown Harris Vaulks

yDreamseller

Good signing for Oxford, surprised we’ve let him go tbh. I had Vaulks as one of our 3 best players this season, he was instrumental in that holding midfield role since Rohl came in. Put in some huge performances when we needed it and THAT tackle against Blackburn away 😍 Comes across as a great character and leader in the dressing room too, certainly made an impact here. Best of luck Vaulksy!

jbirdrules

Always liked Vaulks, thought he was a pretty solid footballer, if a bit limited. Champ is definitely his level and should have stayed at Wednesday as Oxford will likely struggle next season

RatherEnglish

Hot take: team favourite for relegation will struggle

jbirdrules

Not the point I was making - he's gone from a team that struggled but could go to midtable to a team that will be in a relegation battle

aledactyl

Would've liked him to have stayed as he was crucial in our run in and seems a bit of a leader on and off the pitch. That said, could've done with a few more goals and he did seem to get caught in possession on occasion, particularly earlier on in the season. But if we can get 2 or 3 midfielders of equal or better calibre into the squad it may not be so bad. I just know I'd want someone of Vaulks' ilk on the pitch if we did end up 'down there' again next season. Solid signing for Oxford mind!

Maay444

Apparently he wanted a longer contract at Wednesday than what was offered, that's what's doing rounds on social media anyway

Material_Trifle

Fair all round. You might feel you can get a step up, especially based on your second half of the season form, we get an experienced player who is clearly good enough for the level and Vaulks gets a longer deal at a time when they start getting harder to find. Win win win. He'll be 32 when his contract ends which isn't exactly old these days for a player who doesn't seem to have struggled with injuries so I'm confident we'll get a couple of years of good service from him. Absolutely delighted with this as a signing and feel it's a bit of a statement of intent. I still expect us to be generally looking at younger up and coming players who will be assets to go with a few more experienced heads. Really looking forward to this season.

Fantastic-Machine-83

Not like chansiri to be tight with money hey?

Realistic_Edge_9610

It’s just sensible

domsp79

Massive asset to Oxford United's Community Foundation too. Has won the EFL player of the community award more than once.

mar87fra

An Oxford fan, this looks like the right sort of signing as he has played a lot of games at this level and last season we were crying out for a defensive midfielder at times.

Livid_Excuse_3501

Strong signing for Oxford, seen a lot of people writing them off in their predictions which I think is undeserved.

AnonymousWebDummy

This feels like a good move to solidify our midfield imo. It's already a position of strength but we need some depth and especially we needed someone who can play a holding role to either give Cam a rest or free him up to play a little more forward. Getting solid experience at this level right in the middle of the pitch is a great bonus too

GreenDantern1889

Serious question (and I know with who I support it looks like I'm being a dick) but who are Wednesday going to sign to replacehim and others? Financially they're fucked, they've kept aging players like Bannan who you're not able to build around for the future - what's the plan?

yorkie_lad

Putting aside our biases, I don’t think Wednesday are in trouble FFP wise (we’ve not spent much on transfer fees for the past few windows). The issue seems to be whether Chansiri has the money or the heart to fund us at Championship level anymore. I think the general fan hope is that Chansiri will let Röhl get on with rebuilding the squad with minimal interference. As you say though, from the outside looking in it’s hard to see what the current plan is. With how thin our squad is, especially in midfield, letting someone like Vaulks go seems risky. Let’s hope we’ve got some players lined up as replacement.

GreenDantern1889

I think you're fine FFP wise - it's the debts against the club thatt would be the worry And yeah - I don't think Chansiri can or will spend, similar to us with Prince Abdullah if this takeover doesn't happen, it'll be frees and loans which makes the task of surviving even harder, especially with Rohl getting admirers and potentially leaving mid-season Odd to see you lose Vaulks, keep Bannan and then decide Max Lowe is a priority target!

yorkie_lad

Ye true, Chansiris previous record doesn’t inspire much confidence from a financial point of view. I think most fans would agree with keeping Bannan, still a quality player. But I hope he’s moved towards a squad role now and we’re not as reliant on him as previous seasons. The Max Lowe rumours seem to have popped up out of nowhere. We are desperate for left sided players though, so hopefully he can give us some balance. What’s your opinion of him? Can’t say I can remember ever seeing him play.

GreenDantern1889

Yeah you need to start using him less because he is nearing the end of his career - if he ever does retire! The best way I can describe Lowe is he's absolutely nothing special. No one sits there and goes "oh my god Lowe had a stellar game today", but we also didn't sit there and say "my god Lowe was absolutely awful". He's just sort of there. And considering in the last two seasons he's managed half the games, to just be there isn't good enough for where are aspirations are (even though we won't be anywhere near them ourselves!)

CardiffCity1234

I make that 5 ex Cardiff players now playing for Oxford. I loved Vaulks although it never really worked out for him at us. Is capable of scoring a few screamers every season, is passionate but misses a bit of quality. Good signing though.

zanduk03

One of the key players in our survival, he will be missed

SirHotwaterbottle

Pleased with the signing for us love a workhorse

Shocking player

SoggyMattress2

Horrendous footballer. Awful technically, awful physically but he always puts in a shift. Can see him doing decent in lower leagues.

biddleybootaribowest

Surprised yous got rid of him then

Think-Ad-1068

Haha aye, surprised he wasn’t offered a 5 year contract.

SoggyMattress2

He was too shit for us and we're awful, you're just making my point for me.

Think-Ad-1068

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. He did nothing of note during his time here. Like you said, hard worker but technically limited. Feel like league 1 is his level. He could do a backflip when he scored so guess he had that going for him?
