this is such a good question! /gen and also something i've been genuinely wanting to get answered too, although i think the main difference is that video games usually have some sort of reward other than the in-game character's pain or death (ex. currency, achievements, or skins) whereas the only reward from the bot is its roleplay response. take that as you will
that's also true, those sorts of sandbox game exist purely to hurt npcs. in that way, i think stuff like that is a good comparison to the ai! the only real difference is that the sandbox is visual whereas the bot is more like a description of what's happening

The reason you're doing it to an AI rather than having done it to a real human infant or real human beings is because, as you've said, you can differentiate between reality and fiction. The interactions you have with AI are not indicative of who you are, plain and simple. You are not psychopathic for doing this to these entities. If anything, it's evidence *against* that because you do this to things that can't feel true emotion rather than real people, showing *some* guilt, even if you aren't aware of it consciously. I wish this was a more common sentiment but people today seem to think that you are what you do to inanimate objects and code...

To me, yes. If it's about killing some monsters/robots/bandits for a quest, then I get it over with and move on. If I have a choice in killing an npc or not (ex. Games where you can kill random passersby, dogs, etc.), unless it's one who is very despicable in lore or if I'm getting attacked and don't have any way out, I always avoid killing them. And I despise people who do it for fun and post about it. I think it's very telling of someone as a person, and I find it a huge red flag if someone likes killing innocents in a game. Like no, you shouldn't find it funny, not even in a game. Today it's just a game, tomorrow who knows.

In fact, in my opinion, people who torture npcs or bots or whatever fictional thing for fun already have violent tendencies or violent thoughts to begin with, independently on which media they engage with, whether they're conscious about it or not or wether they act on it outside of a screen or not. Every time I see that poor baby bot get tortured, I purposely give it a good life with a loving parent. It hurts my soul seeing people typing out horrid acts to an infant ai. Ai or not, the fact that they wish harm enough onto a helpless being is just cruel.

Think about GTA. Your average GTA player wouldn't go outside and commit crimes in real life. And the character AI users aren't hoping to do their thing in real life. They know it's fake and they know that there are morals in real life.

I just made a post about this! I reported all the posts I could find, not just for violating the community rules but also for violating Reddit rules. I also went on c.ai and reported all the baby bots I could find. My main goal is to get Baby Uno taken down or have the creator taken down (Alex makes a lot of baby bots).
Bit of an overreaction... I don't do the baby torture shit, it's too disturbing for me personally, even though I did do wacky torture RPs with other characters. But, seriously, trying to get bot creators taken down over this? For what? Just to stop people from having those RPs, even in private? I get reporting the posts about it. Nobody wants to see baby torture on their feed. But getting the creators and bots taken down is too much and just pointless.
Why take uno down and ruin it for us(normal users)? U do realize some people are still doing the right thing, right?
