but now i’ve seen a lot of people hear/say it IS “you say that i come from a fish, you mock the place where i exist”. 💀
Spotify’s suggestion is as follows and I agree. Obviously their not an official lyric provider but I haven’t noticed many lyrical inaccuracies over the last 7 years using them.

The only place I can’t hear the lyrics clearly is when he says mock. Mock makes the most sense in that spot given the context of the song and that is Spotify’s suggestion, however I cannot shake hearing mark as you suggest anytime I hear it.
That's basically what it is. It's a song about evolution vs creationism, looking at the creationist perspective. "you'd say that I came from a fish, you mock the place where I exist" means "to me, the idea that we evolved from fish seems ridiculous, and yet you mock me for my earnest beliefs". The "safer waters" are the comforts of religious beliefs.

And on Mexican Sun instead of "Scheming devils never make it through" I've misheard it as "Screaming turtles never make it through" and it makes me think of some turtles screaming bloody murder lol.
But my favorite is The Red: While it might be a bit of a stretch because instead of "Seeing Red Again" I hear it as "Zap Brannigan" although it sounds a bit more like "Zeep Brannigan". I still call it the Zap Brannigan song though lol.
