Chihuahuas are solar powered.

They are small dogs, thin coated and their rate of heat loss is high. Typical body temp for a dog is 102 or so - he's getting a nice boost. My old, skinny cats would walk outside and lie on hot cement to bake their aching arthritic bones.

He’s so thin coated I wonder if he could get a sunburn! I can see his pink skin under his fur! Also central Va humidity and heat advisory means less basking time for this little stinker.

Our little Mickey (seven months old) is quite happy to stay in the house, snuggled up against our Mini Schnauzer (Clancy, also a male). Our nearly 12-year-old Basset Hound, however, loves the sun (as have the four Bassets who preceded her). It takes a lot of convincing to her her in even when the temps are over 100.
