As a monoglot who only speaks English, when I first adopted my chi and would walk her in the local park, I’d hear older Mexican ladies at park benches calling out to her with words like “perrita!” and slowly learned a few Spanish phrases and names to call her too 😂

When I would take my chis to the local flea market, I would regularly hear the Spanish-speaking children call them *’chihuahuitas!’*
