Wow, its from 8 months ago and just got deleted today? That's wild lol. I'll def give it a read. Despite what some people are saying, I feel like you can't quite make a Fighter with the same playstyle as a PF1e Samurai with the currently available options.

ZandrXI

I made a post in that sub about why it was removed and the mods removed my post and after I massaged the mods they told me is was a rule 0 violation. The reason it got hit was it was linked in the mod post about Tian Xia World yesterday so I think luck panda went out of his way to have it removed.

Meryle

I am glad we have a better place to be.

Foxblade

I feel like there's a right way and a wrong way to do flavored classes, but you're absolutely right. If we distilled everything down to just "well reflavor your idea as a Fighter" we would literally have 4 classes. Ultimately every class could be broken down into a Fighter, a Thief, a Mage, or a Cleric. Even the last two could be compressed further into a generic "Magic user" class. If we can make room for classes like Exemplar, Champion, Barbarian, or Gunslinger (basically just a Cowboy Samurai), then we can absolutely make appropriate and respectful room for something like a Samurai or Monk.

mhyquel

The magnificent Seven is just a retelling of Seven samurai.

Finrealmar

Got deleted after a comment yeah. EDIT: remove wrong stuff.

ZandrXI

The one I'm linking to is a different Samurai homebrew that is eight months old and I think that one is from ten or so days ago.

Finrealmar

I stand corrected.

Shinavast42

I love pathfinder - i will never go back to D&D and i played D&D since AD&D (yeah, i'm old) - and pathfinder is everything i've wanted out of my fantasy role playing system. But i think some of the fans and sometimes even Paizo need to take a deep breath and chill. Not everything is a micro-aggression and not every aspect of the game needs to be a good fight fought over the indecency and injustice of the real world. Maybe someone just wants to make a fighter that uses a katana and wears o'yorio armor and has a strict code of honor. That is ok. Its not cultural appropriation or a racial/cultural transgression. It might just be a person who thinks samurais look cool AF and have an interesting theme. I got interested in Japanese history when i bought and read D&D's "Oriental Adventures" (YUP, that was that books name - it was the 80's or very, very early 90's what can i say). Not all of this stuff leads to de facto racism / shit looks on the world. Sometimes there's no broader ill . I think people need to give people the benefit of the doubt more and not assume there's transgressive subtexts in the highly subjective and interpretive medium of text on what is a glorified bulletin board. :D

Manowar274

I only learned about this because of the drama, hopefully others do as well so at least *some* good can come from all this crap.

Pivotblazingrush

So, the explanation for why it got deleted was that it violated copyright. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what the copyrighted content actually is, or was. Anybody able to give more info?

CreepGnome

Thanks for this. I actually had opened it in a tab for later, refreshed the page and saw it was removed.

Venator_IV

Didn't even know it was a thing until u/luck_panda made himself a buffoon over it. Downloaded immediately, great class.

StarOfTheSouth

Oh, look, the Streisand Effect. No one much cared about this *eight month old post* until they deleted it, lol.

psychcaptain

It's a bit swordy. I kind of want something like with the Startling Appearance Feat from the Vigilante. But pretty cool!

xukly

ok, not that knowledgeable about PF2 to see if something is good or bad in homebrew, can anyone that knows chime in? Cause, like, ronnin seems like pretty underpowered compared to the other options and mineuchi looks kinda OP for a 1st level feat

HawkonRoyale

I thought people joked when it was removed from pf2e hombrew sub. Clearly not!

TriOmegaZero

Thanks for posting the link!

Comfortable-Bench330

While I think removing that post was an ass move, I agree that there is no need of an actual Samurai class, the same way there is no need of a Knight class, because they are roles covered by the Fighter class. Maybe an archetype for flavor, but not a full class.

Are you referring to the 1e Samurai or this homebrew? I can't speak for the homebrew as I haven't skimmed it yet, but Samurai in 1e had some distinct abilities that aren't really replicated in the 2e Fighters choice of feats as of now. That said, I don't particularly think it needs to be its own class either lol. I think a lot of people just want some new abilities for Fighter or another martial class to be able to approximate that same feeling of the 1e class. It could be an archetype, just some new feats, anything really. Hell, it doesn't even need to be called "Samurai".

Tbf it was and it wasn't. The alternate classes like Samurai and Ninja got a decent amount of stuff unique to them. But they did share enough that I agree they don't need to be full on separate classes in 2e.

Let's just agree to disagree then my friend. You're free to not think they were distinct enough. I doubt we'll change eachothers minds lol.

>an overturned power attack as a class feature at level 1 It's much more accurate to compare it to Investigator's *Strategic Strike* than an "overtuned" Power Attack. Power Attack uses the die size of the weapon, meaning that it does significantly more damage than a measley 1d6 precision damage (at the cost of taking the first level feat to sheath your sword as a free action once per turn, which prevents you from using it defensively, ala a different first level feat).

Author_Pendragon

I don't *agree* with the notion that it needs to be a class (I think it would work best as an archetype based on prior precedents), but on the other hand it's fine if people want to make some homebrew.
