Which is such a lie. It was their fourth album in like 3 years, they were touring consistently. It clearly was not a long time since they rock and rolled, they had rock and rolled very recently!
Absolutely. Screw each and every song that OP put. He has no clue what makes a great drum intro. His logic seems that just because the songs are iconic and by chance they start from drums so the drum intros are best.
A great drum intro is imo one that should just be one of the most important, recognizable, and something that can stand on its own, no context needed to show it's great.
This is what Stargazer is, When The Levee Breaks is, Rock and Roll is, Hot For Teacher is. Not fricking Like A Rolling Stone.
I don't know how controversial of a statement I said, but it felt too obvious not to say.
Was scrolling through make sure some one had nominated this. Cozy Powell at his muscular best; with some deft hi-hat work added for good measure. Died about as a rock and roll death as you could imagine: drunk driving to the rescue of a wife he was having an affair with.
Jeff Beck actually laid down the drum track for Superstition during a session while Stevie was recording Talking Book. After they finished the song Stevie gave his blessing for Beck to record it with Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice.
I heard Charlie Watts was so sick of playing the cowbell intro live that they had to play it off tape to start that song. Interesting and slightly peculiar guy.
