If your hotel is downtown, the Red Line train goes directly from the airport to the city center, last train is usually like 1:20 AM. It costs $2.50.
There's also regular taxi's that still serve the airport directly.
Tbf that may be why. Last I heard (don't quote me) Uber and Lyft do not currently offer a higher rate for airport trips, and the areas around the airport are completely dead after 11. Anyone driving in the area would likely be camping the handful of bars after midnight and may not want to risk the closing time bump for a short airport trip.
I get that about the bars, but there actually are campers from Uber at midnight. IIRC the driver told me that they check arrival times and hang by the baggage area around those times...and he was very happy to get me home and call it a night.
That's good to hear. I'm just making educated guesses off of experience as a cab driver/gig app contractor, and my hit or miss experience getting a ride any time of day around here. I live right next to the airport and half the time it can take hours and several cancelled rides to get picked up for short trips. But tbf, some of my struggles may be because they're waiting at the airport and don't want to leave just to take me 2 miles. Lol. I can definitely see that, now that I think about it.
It's definitely not a bustling part of the metro area though.
Hopefully OP has a smooth experience as well.
Oof. Recent? I know the VIs were a leg and a half 20 years ago. Still no direct flights outside of MCO, MIA, ATL, (apparently) CLT this day and age?
I think even MSY, JFK and DCA used to have special flights to St Croix.
Crazy to think about the steady increase in cost and decline in convenience air travel has taken over the last few decades. I travel a lot for work and anything less than 1k miles I opt to drive most of the time. Generally a similar time frame and far less stressful, for me personally.
FWIW I’ve been able to get an Uber / Lyft from the airport between 11pm and 2am, just had to wait a little bit. If not the red line train is also an option.
The area around the airport is pretty dead after dark. I've never tried getting a ride from the airport at that hour, but I've definitely had trouble getting one nearby. How far away is your hotel? If it's a short/low-fee trip you may be competing with bar closing traffic for the couple of drivers in the area.
You may have better luck with a taxi if there are any camping the airport at the time.
I doubt you'll be stranded, you may just find yourself waiting a bit.
Alternatively, you could schedule a pickup in advance. It's not always a guarantee but may increase your odds of having someone there when you're ready.

Thank you!
I had no trouble getting an Uber at midnight from the airport...I live 60 miles away.
Thank you!

After a 13 hour flight, I sent the request...the driver was at the baggage area before me...lol. I was shocked too...but so thankful.
13 hours??? Were you coming from Turkey?

Where do you need to go?
My hotels near the Cleveland Clinic hospital.

Thank you! I’ll check out the train then too!
I had issues once at 1 am. Ended up in one of the airport taxis, who almost didn’t stop lol

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ll look up some back up alternatives.
You’ll be good. Regularly take Ubers home from the airport after 11pm. Never had an issue. Probably 40 for 40…and I probably just jinxed myself.
