I don't need this judgement

senderoluminoso

I don't think I've ever cleaned my Encore

JenniferMcKay

This makes me feel better. I think I've cleaned mine two or three times in the last four years but it's definitely been a while.

jayinfidel

Agreed! Although I just got my M2 burr upgrade. So it's about to get its first and only "deep cleaning" this week.

Son_of_a_Bacchus

I was kinda hoping I could just run some rice through mine.

0uie

Bit late but I just do Urnex Grindz like once a month and then hand clean the hopper and bin with warm water and soap. Damp paper towel the rest of it. And I have a little brush I use to just gently wipe off the burrs and chute when I do that.

ohgodnotmyselfesteem

I took my hand grinder apart after many years of not cleaning it and found there was very little stuff stuck to the burrs or even much in other places so I wouldn't bother. Handgrinders in general are really low retention unlike some electric grinders, but if you really want to get the last bit of dust out, one of those squeezy air blowers for camera lens cleaning will get it completely free of coffee grounds

bumps-

It's really cool that my 1zpresso JMax shipped with one of their air blowers and a brush in the package

Makaijin

I have a K-Max myself. I just use it after every grind, takes like 10 secs to get a few puffs and it's clean. I typically blow from the bottom of the burrs, in the small gap where the grinds come out. Most of the fines stick around that area due to static. I do take it apart and give it a better clean every so often. But like the others comments have said, there really isn't much to clean. I do give the burrs a wipe down with some 99% alcohol (it's fine to use alcohol according to 1zpresso's website) to clean the coffee oils.

Davinator_

I clean my Timemore C2 when I start a new bag of coffee.

HestusDarkFantasy

Does there tend to be much to clean? Almost through my first bag on a new C2 and am wondering if I need to take it apart and do this.

HestusDarkFantasy

Nice one, thanks! I'm generally more into preventative approaches, so I think I'll do this :) Is it just a matter of following booklet to disassemble and then cleaning with the brush?

The_Fanciest_Pants

The booklet that came with mine (I just bought it) recommends not taking it apart for cleaning. Unless you're really worried about oils I wouldn't bother.

Packetization

I don’t think I ever did a tore down cleaning. I just run grindz through my encore whenever I descale my moccamaster

Ok-Recognition-7256

Once a week or so. It doesn't make any night-to-day diference but I prefer making sure ther's no accumulated fines and everything is in order. Just a a way of taking care of something trying to make it perform at its best for as long as it can.

GreysLucas

I have an hand grinder so I do it every time I finished a 250g packet

[deleted]

I clean my grinder on the same schedule as my coffee maker. Every 100 brews (each new box of filters).

partisanal_cheese

Everytime I get a new bag of coffee. I have an 1zpresso J-Max and it takes about 5 mins.

tabgrab23

Do you think it’d make a noticeable difference in taste if you didn’t?

WoodyTSE

I honestly think it depends on how often you use it. If you’re constantly using it, stuff gets cycled through all the time. If you use it sparingly, oil has time to sit and go a bit funny. Completely hypothetical and anecdotal but that’s been my experience.

sonorguy

With my Baratza Forte I notice the coffee notes are very muddled if I don't clean the grinder every time I switch beans. I nearly went an entire bag without cleaning and was disappointed by the coffee I was making. I cleaned the grinder and the last few cups were awesome. I've tried it a few times and had the same experience, so now I clean between every coffee switch.

partisanal_cheese

Not for my palate. I just do so to keep in the habit of 'clean'. Also, the burr assembly attaches with a reverse thread that tightens as I grind coffee. I like to be able to detach that and if I don't loosen it every 10 days or so, it gets super tight.

Theredtriangle92

Same here. JX-Pro

bumps-

Just disassembled my 1zpresso JMax a few days ago for a blow and brush after about 10 months. Honestly seems pretty alright; waiting this long didn't seem to have become a problem in any way. Good opportunity to calibrate it too though.

nach0ladas

Never full tear down. Now, for cleaning the burr chamber with a brush? Maybe monthly or every other month. The Eureka is fairly easy to open up, but I don’t want to be bothered with recalibrating so I just brush the burr chamber and the chute to get any remaining particles out. It does the job well enough.

[deleted]

I clean my Breville grinder after every other bag of beans.

Urupackers

I only use medium roasted beans that are not oily beans, I have disassembled and cleaned my Jx Pro 4 times in 2+ years, very little to clean in the burrs, difference before and after is zero. I clean with a tooth brush the burrs every week, and I blow in the mouth of the grinder when I clean it weekly.

Ok-Insurance4320

My Zpresso J hand grinder gets taken apart every couple of weeks

chris84126

Every two or three years.

RedDeadRedread

I’ve taken apart my Jx pro once in the 2-3 years that I’ve had it. I feel I need to do it again since I switched from using it to grind espresso to pour over and I’m sure a lot fine bits might be left in there.

Polymer714

I haven't noticed a difference in the results when cleaning them...Now, I haven't gone years and years between cleaning so it is hard to say..I try to clean mine once or twice a year.

puehlong

Cleaned my Wilfa Svart once, got the impression that alignment was even worse afterwards, but it’s a known issue so I don’t think that was the problem. Have yet to clean my Ode but it’s only a few months old and went through maybe 2kgs of beans max

SimpleUsuario

I clean my demoka m-203 every 6 months and with the vacuum cleaner each time I finish a bag (every 250 g).

1L-Fanta

i love tinkering so maybe every 2 weeks?

czhDavid

When it starts to produce a lot of fines. I am at that stage now. I have JX-pro and when my v60 begins to clog up and draw time will go from 2 minutes to 2:30 i clean it

[deleted]

It's on my "do this once a quarter" chores list. But I don;'t stress if I skip it once, so sometimes it'd be six months instead of 3... This is a Mazzer MiniE (doserless) with a set of bellows instead of a hopper. It's always pretty clean inside, no caked on gunk even after 6 months.

Sir_Tom_Jones

I clean mine once a week, as its really easy on the niche. Normally on a Sunday while I fush my Decent with cafiza. Don't notice a huge difference, but it's amazing how much oil and fines build up in just one week.

superkartoffel

Uhhhh I didn't strip down my mazzer mini for ughhh 13 years when I changed the burrs. 😭 I did give it a weekly clean tho.

Aramiss60

Never, unless there is a problem (which there hasn’t been). They do nicely with a bit of season on them.

timmeh129

I've had a Timemore C2 thing for about 6 months, the first few months after I got it I used to disassemble it and clean it almost weekly, then less often, then even less often... now I don't remember when I cleaned it last, because honestly, the open part (idk what to call it, it is the part with the grind adjustment) is really clean for some reason. As if with constant use it stopped accumulating grounds

the_pianist91

A couple of weeks usually, could’ve been more often. I should at least do it every time I change coffee. My Comandante is easy to just unscrew the burr and brush, while my Macap espresso grinder is more work involving two screwdrivers, a brush and a vacuum cleaner.

takenusernametryanot

I use compressed air after each use. I disassemble my Comandante once a month to get it cleaned thoroughly

Lightbulbbuyer

I clean my niche zero every 3 months I think, I have an alarm set on my phone for it and my espresso machine I do a proper backpurge with cafiza every 100 shots. And in the middle I do a few backflush here and there. I also have a descaling solution that I am using every 6 months or so. Even though I have a Brita, a small bag of stuff in the tank that's supposed to help with hard water. Water is so hard where I live, when I do plumbing I can half ass it and it will seal itself anyway. Not even kidding about it. I'm scared for my kidneys whenever I think about it lol.

Reverend_Swo

Between bags of coffee. I've a commandante the whole process is painless so figure why not. Find a lot of oils on the burrs and grinder weights .5g lighter after a clean so clearly some junk getting caught up in the nooks and crannies

BanjosNotBombs

About every six months. I only go through about as much in that time as the typical EK sees in a week at a shop, anyway.

snobbycoffee

Deep clean every 3 months, brush out every two weeks or if I have used a particularly dark roast

oneblackened

Every couple weeks. The Niche makes it very easy.

[deleted]

I clean my C40 when I change coffees.

rubix_cubin

Daily external cleaning you say...?

rofic

I'm dilligent so every 80 years.

BobJava101

I clean my filter grinder when I clean and de-scale my brewer about every 100 brew cycles (aka a box of filters). I clean my espresso grinder once a week when I do a thorough Cafzia back flush on the machine.

thebadams

For me, basically never. With my lido I basically just brush the burrs after every grind, no teardown required. The Lido grinders detail 3 levels of teardown - I will every once in a while so what they consider Level 2 - removing the handle, and pulling out the conical Burr from the bottom. On the Lido this allows you to get to most parts where there might end up accumulated fines and such. I've never done a complete teardown of the grinder, although it is possible.

radiationshield

3 years ago ... maybe?
