Afaik, they had some friends being taken POW and the russians executed them during the battle for Avdiivka. After that they really went all out.

“Lone Russian machine gunner” doesn’t seem like an effective fighting force (even without the drone chasing him).
Good chance that he was part of a unit that got mulched in fighting nearby, and the drone chased him down when he was separated or retreating.
