😂 Well damn fighting somebody almost 20 pounds heavier is crazy

DystopianLeaf

Not only that, but he’s willing to admit it’s not as easy as people think. A lot of fighters think they’re invincible and can take on anybody.

harcile

I think "it depends"; that opponent has to be prepared to use their advantage. A good example is Floyd vs Canelo. That was a sparring match. Canelo wasn't prepared to bite down on the gumshield and take shots to land shots - he tried it maybe 1 or 2 times in the fight, the few moments he landed shots of note including the shot that hurt Mayweather's arm, but wasn't interested in the counters that came his way. Margarito was just "hit me all you like, I'm throwing as soon as I'm close" and that's just a hard, hard 12 rounds.

samthehumanoid

>"hit me all you like, I'm throwing as soon as I'm close" and that's just a hard, hard 12 rounds. MMA but I saw Mike Perry fight live once, before he made a big name and I didn’t really know his game but he was clearly just bigger and this was how I felt for his opponent the whole time constantly landing back peddling and nothing stopped Perry it had to be so mentally draining on top of the physical side. You ever had a nightmare where your punches don’t do shit? It kinda looked like that. The guys that are big and durable but also have the mentality to really utilise it and bully people, trading shots etc are terrifying. Even if ur the better fighter u are getting punished at some point

--thingsfallapart--

It wasn't a sparring match lol canelo got completely schooled. If he just "bit down on his mouthpiece bro" he would've got knocked out. It's that simple.

harcile

It was for Floyd. He cruised through that fight. I agree Canelo got schooled, but he made no attempt to impose his size, which was my point. A stark contrast to how Margarito went after Pacquiao.

Minimum_Room3300

Canelo fought kovalev, KO artist at lightheavy weight and he wasn't dazed. He's been a pro fighter since he was 15 years old and has never even been knocked down. Floyd schooled him but there is no way in hell he can KO canelo, especially not the old, brittle hands Floyd.

hard_okay

Floyd knocking Canelo out LMFAO. Guy was never even hurt; weight drained AF and was never even in trouble. What world is this sub living in that Floyd is this boogie man KO artist??? Lmfao

Prestigious_Bird8642

20 Ibs is crazy even more so at lower weight classes

varvar334

And the most crazy part for me, is that Margarito despite being a cheating asshole was a legit boxer, and one of the best in his weight, not like the bigger guy Tank fought years ago.

AstralSurfer

Usyk was 40 pounds lighter than Tyson Fury. 6'3 vs 6'9.

Solid-Equal-8558

6'2"5 to 6'7"5 tbf

AstralSurfer

Hm, so the "official" numbers are wrong?

Capable_Program5470

Welcome to boxing. Nobody ever measured Dave Allen's reach but they list it...

A_Supspicious_Asian

Once you hit heavyweight it matters *much* less, however both of these feats are crazy though

4uzzyDunlop

Especially at these lighter weight classes, that's a significant amount of their body weight

MeeloP

I keep trying to lose weight but I’m stuck at 222

abdul_tank_wahid

What’s funny is if you watch that fight it just looked like Manny cruised and gave out the beats for 12 rounds, but whenever he talks about it he said it was a horrible experience. Funny how on the outside it looked so easy but inside he was saying “Wow why did I do this never again”.

Fragrant_Power6178

He fought Margarito without a rehydration clause. Fighters nowadays will put in a lot of conditions before accepting the fight. Manny never claimed to be the best, he was just there to fight. No ego.

RioTheGOAT

TIL about rehydration clause what is it?

Oglark

The IBF and certain sports commissions are trying to eliminate extreme weight cuts by fighters. Generally l, it is something like "fighter cannot rehydrate more than 10 lbs last tested 6 hours before the fight."

RioTheGOAT

That’s an awesome idea. I don’t watch boxing much but in the UFC fighters rehydrate to like 30lb plus, it’s ridiculous

bronzelifematter

Yeah, that is a bit extreme

jsingh21

That's because I believe they dony have wieght classes like boxing. Let's start with the 130 wieght class. There's 130, 135, 140, 147, 154, 168, 175, then there's cruiswerwigth where limit is 200 and heavyweight is whatever wieght you want. Ufc 135, 145, 155, 170. You just jumped from 155 to 170. 15 pound difference. Then 15 again, 185 and 205.

ps728

“How did it feel getting hit by Margarito?” “Well, he didnt have cement in his gloves like the other fights, so i beat the piss outta him”

32233128Merovingian

Weight classes for a reason

GM-T800-101

Damn he did that to an opponent that was 17lbs heavier? What a Legend…

Prestigious_Bird8642

And we have guys like tank who scared to fight fighters with 2 ibs difference and on top of that puts rehydration clause on them

Godmode365

Feel like he might be underestimating Margarito's actual weight on fight night since 165 means he only gained like 10-11 lbs. Feel like 154 was the absolute lowest Margarito could cut to and I would've guessed that he put on more like 15-20+ lbs. Edit: NVM forgot the catch weight was actually 150 lbs so 165 lbs checks out.

corviddy

top 3 coolest fighters ever imo. Humble, funny, disciplined and tough af… legend.

Choices_Consequences

![gif](giphy|jV52Cc5uGDEu6YyWmh|downsized) And don’t forget… when Pac-Man rocks the mic, he rocks the mic RIGHT! 😂 Hands down most interesting boxer ever.

DoriOli

What a legend Manny is 😎

BlackwaterMerc

Pacquiao fans made it hard to root for him but he himself was so humble and realistic.

Zopotroco

One of the best boxers of all time

Miniiq

Usyk fights men 40 pounds heavier

getagrip1212

When Margarito hurt him to the body I thought for sure he would go down if he was hit agian, but Manny did a good job of hiding it, and it seems Antonio did not notice when it happened.

Monsterjs2609

Pacquiao > Mayweather
