A Newsweek article says he’s originally from Venezuela and illegally immigrated here last September. He got married to his “wife” to strengthen their asylum case and have since split up.. what a warped perception of the situation the AP has put out.
I saw a bunch of articles on this and read the comments. It's all saying how men don't understand the dangers women face. A bunch of people in the comments are attacking the US because women shouldn't have to be afraid while jogging. it's so unbelievably frustrating.
They don't want it. They want to be horrified victims. and I know you think "Oh, who *wants* to be a victim of SA or assault? Well, every women I've ever heard cry about this exact same thing, when prompted to start carrying a firearm all respond the exact same way: "Well I shouldn't have to". Ok, I'm sure that will play out great. I'm sure that law that bans all the bad people will come into effect soon and it will be a moot point.
There was a post about this on the r/running sub and people in the comments were going OFF on men about how they don’t understand what women go through and how women shouldn’t have to deal with this and yada yada yada. How it’s up to men to end this by squashing “casual sexism” and whatnot. Absolutely absurd. Like that’s going to stop psychopaths from doing psychopath things. Not one mention of how the guy is in the country illegally and was already arrested once. No, it’s men that are the problem.
If that's their angle, they should be pushing hard for constitutional carry (or at least promoting more widespread licensed concealed carry) so the female athletes can better protect themselves when they're out jogging.
