ProCore and BluBeam.

rfjordan

Procore is by far the best software currently available. It’s just so expensive. I’ve heard Autodesk Construction Cloud is also very good but I’ve never personally used it.

Procore, blue beam, I’ve had good experiences with Microsoft project for scheduling.

Personally ProCore

Commercial_Active240

ProCore does nothing for us in heavy civil construction industry or most specialized markets. It’s the best in vertical construction of buildings and related. Bluebeam and Plangrid are excellent. Fieldwire is pretty good to some. P6 and MPP for scheduling.

TacoNomad

Why doesn't procore work in heavy civil?  I can't think of any tools that aren't useful for civil.  Yall still have submittals, rfis, budgets, meetings,  daily logs, etc.

Dfuggy

I noticed that Procore was super helpful with coordinating subs and providing them with accurate as-builts and design-related RFIs when I worked in vertical building. When I worked in heavy civil most of our work was self-performed and that type of daily sub coordination was no longer necessary, also we had much less RFIs and design changes to track. Interested in hearing other people's thoughts too.

TacoNomad

I guess that makes sense for it to be less useful in self perform. But I feel like it would still be helpful. We store a lot of information there. Even useful for the divisions we have that self performan. However,  I also still have a dozen + subs. So coordination is crucial

Commercial_Active240

ProCore strength is in DOC control….submittals, RFIs, drawing revisions, CO sign off up and down, etc and getting everyone all on same page….one central hub made for owners or GCss. Having ten+ subs aware of a design change in a building is important. Everything else is a bolt on in ProCore and not very good at the other stuff you’re paying for. There are other options in that space like Bluebeam. The difference between Bluebeam and ProCore is significant for annotation, dimensioning, markup. Their scheduling platform is not very good. Self perform companies do everything internal. Finally, you can’t make ProCore work the way you want it to. You tailor your operations and workflow to ProCore.

What are your exact problems per heavy civil? Maybe there's a product below that can help you out. https://geospatial.trimble.com/en

TacoNomad

I'm not in heavy civil

Hotdogpizzathehut

A recording device to record the audio of all meetings. Meeting minutes are great but the recording can save your ass.

Everyone keeps saying ProCore but personally I think it hasn't developed much during the last 5 years. There are new softwares in the field that offer way more and are more practical.

i like buildxact

Openspace is amazing for site progress capture. Will save your ass in more ways than one. Great for disputing change orders and schedule delays.

I use E-builder. Nothing special.
