Your average pizza only cost 70 cents -1.80$ to mass produce and that's with staff manning a store, these pizzas should be 7$, but if people are buying them why not charge them, after all the real price of something is set by the consumer and what they will actually pay.
Ya at that price point I might as well get take out pizzas from somewhere, otherwise I’m cool with the food court pizza. Can always put some in the freezer and bake em again later.
Even before they were discontinued they were never a great deal. They were like $12, which is more reasonable as they had stuff like the margarita pizza but even back then hot pizza was the way to go imo.
To be fair, the old take and bakes just barely fit in my apartment's oven and round pizzas in square boxes weren't space efficient. If they're coming on a paper tray maybe they're trying to maximize how many can be prepped on the same time and avoiding gaps on a prep table.
I think it’s very tasty. Crust has good chew, sauce is zesty. I have to spice it up a little with red pepper flake. Definitely better than mediocre and more in the “quite good” category in my opinion.

You do you my man, but I can't agree with your take. Sauce has too much sugar, way to much cheese, and the dough/crust is atrocious. Just doughy soft with no crust or leoparding to speak of.
Yeah if I were getting an entire pizza I’d ask them if they could run it through the oven twice. The packet of pepper flakes is definitely needed to spice it up a little. I think the crust has sufficient chew. I like it, I’d give it a B.

Prices in hawaii are exactly the same for almost everything and is priced like all the rest of the stores in the Los Angeles area..... it's part of the same territory.
The only exception to this are some local items only available in the Hawaii stores, but everything else (CLothing, patio furniture, TVs, etc.... abides by the LA region pricing.

i just zoomed in and enhanced. that looks like the normal crust. it does not look like it has any frico or crisped edges.
so it only looks square in shape. no evidence of pan cooking.

The Kirkland cauliflower supreme pizzas (2 pack frozen for $11.99(?)) are the bees knees because my store still hasn't/won't bring back supreme at the court.
All of a sudden I cannot get mine to cook through. I cooked one for 30 minutes the other day and the top bit of dough was still squishy. I don’t have any issues with other stuff I make so I’m not sure it’s the oven but idfk
My trick to that is to foil cover the top and cook for about 2/3 of the way. Then the remaining time, move the rack up closer the element and let it crisp up the top.
I’d recommend for the foil not to wrap it tight just pinch it around the tray but allow air to circulate around it. You don’t want to “steam the pizza” but you do want to get the mid level to the bottom crust crispy.
Papa Murphy’s can accept food stamp cards since it’s considered a grocery item, instead of ready to eat food. When I was super poor, it was the only way I could get a decent pizza for my kid.
Papa Murphy's does well in areas where the best cooked pizza comes from Dominoes or Papa John's. It doesn't make sense for people that live in areas that have decent pizza
When I was a kid Papa Murphy's was the afforable option in my town. Now it's not any cheaper than a normal pizza place. No idea how it still stays in business.
I think they couldn't offer old items at low prices at anymore so they had to come up with new items since the consumer wouldn't be as anchored to the old price.
this is my belief. Deli has changed it's platter prices (newest is $50, old croissant was $39.99), cut old items (goodbye Ravioli Lasagna, hello $18 Meatballs & Rigatoni), and now is bringing back take and bake pizzas at $17 (pepp/cheese used to be $9/8 nearly a decade ago).
You see the same thing in the food court. Churros came back "enhanced with a twist" and cost $1 more. Turkey & provolone sandwich? nope. It's a cold Turkey and Swiss and costs $4 more. Chicken Caesar Salad now with "Rotisserie Chicken!" for $1 (or $2?) more
I always expected Combo Pizza to come back as a "Specialty Pizza" that cost more, i just never expected it in the Deli

Without disagreeing with your main point, these aren't frozen. They are made fresh in the deli. But you're right that they are too expensive, regardless.
That's interesting. I've never seen at Costco some sort of statement like "X is back." I assumed that it was in their style guide, never to say in print that something is "back"...or ever left? I thought that was part of their brand distinction.

If you put a cold slice in the air fryer until the cheese is browned-ish and the crust is crunchy-ish... It can be pretty, somewhat, kinda killer
