Personally, I don’t think I’m going to root for anyone, I’ll prob just tune into hockey when it’s on tv but idk. It definitely won’t be Salt Lake City since I have no connection to Utah at all. I’m not trying to be bitter at all but I just don’t see myself rooting for anyone but my Desert Dogs.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Utah did anything wrong. All of this falls on AM. Utah was given the opportunity to purchase an NHL team and of course they took it. I’m not saying I’m going to root for Utah, but I’m not sure they’re who we should be upset with.

I cant root for Utah. They stole my heart. Yeah, I get that the relationship was over and I shouldnt blame whoever they move on to, but I can't. Do I go for the whores in Vegas as a rebound? Maybe some day I'll learn to love again. Until then, Vegas knows how to be flashy, put on a distracting show, might keep the depression away.
Noone.
I will be unfollowing all NHL related things for the foreseeable future. If and/or when Arizona gets an expansion/transfer team, I will reinsert myself. I hate transient fans, and refuse to become one myself.
It was fun while it lasted everyone.
In my opinion, you're a transient fan if you take your fandom out of the state you were born and raised in.
I was born here, raised here, I'm not here now (work commitments), and I plan to retire and die here. My teams are all here, and if they leave, they leave behind my fandom. I don't go chasing after billionaires like some simp with a strange obsession with pain and suffering. I have enough of that (chasing after billionaires like some simp with a strange obsession with pain and suffering) at home already!
I am after all, an Arizona Sports fan.
Don't let my logic (flawed or otherwise) get in the way of your fandom, friend. To each, their own.
I was just providing context to my decision to not root for any other teams in the NHL.
Roadrunners and Leafs (local team) for me next season. Planning to watch more college hockey as well since I enjoyed watching the Frozen Four last weekend.
Canes. I started following them in 2020 during the pandemic bubble when I lived in NC. Yotes were still my first, but they became a background second, so I'll probably just jump fully on board with them.
As a Canes fan, The Yotes were my secondary team simply because y’all have my favorite logo. The Kachina is absolutely sick and it disgusts me that we are gonna lose it
I honestly have no idea. I live in Missouri but don't know if I can see myself rooting for the Blues. I've lived in KS/MO for over 20 years now but AZ is still home to me. I used to root for the Avs in the late 90s because AZ sports were so abysmal and they were "my team" for a couple years when I got back into hockey 10ish years ago but I realized I have no connection to the place so I went back to my hometown team.
I've got good memories of the Yotes. My dad was a season ticket holder for the first 2-3 seasons. I remember they had this fair/carnival thing the first year. Got to go around and get autographs from pretty much the entire team... This shit sucks guys.
Buddy, I live 25 minutes from Enterprise and have already been asked by my neighbor and friends here if I wanted to join them on the Blues wagon.
Fuck. That.
Yea I feel ya. I've never lived in Stl, currently down in Cape. When I lived in Columbia I played roller hockey with a bunch of Blues fans and even becoming friends with them did not endear me to the Blues one bit.
Bro, I am literally going to be in Vegas next week. Does T-Mobile still throw like a block party if the knights are playing an away playoff game? Cause if they are, I'm fuckin THERE.
Yep, I believe they hold watch parties every road playoff game. Even if they don’t, you can hit up one of the many bars on the Strip, they’ll all be showing the games
I'll probably be closer to downtown during my stay, but I guess if I can find a spot with knights fans to be loud and scream, I'll be there. Thanks for the info!
I'm torn. I know its an unpopular opinion around here, but I might stick with SLC a little bit because I still love the team and the players are not at fault for any of this, so I still want to support them, but I don't think I can fully commit to them out of principle. Its hard to be too upset at SLC because they want a team and there was a perfect opportunity to get one that fell in their laps, even if its at the expense of my team, I can't say I don't understand why they went for it.
If the season comes and I find I can't actually get behind SLC, I might root for Columbus, St Louis, or Nashville since I'm in Indiana and god knows I won't root for the Blackhawks or the Red Wings and those other teams are all decently close. I haven't fully decided yet.
I'm feeling the same way. On the one hand it's not the Coyotes since it's SLC but on the other hand it is them because it's the players that are the team. I love keller, crouse, and all the young guns now. I feel what makes it so hard is having all of this taken away just when Guenther, Cooley, and now also Doan show what they are capable of. The future of this young core was finally looking bright and it sucks that they're leaving now, of all times. All of this is just such bs
Yea its like losing your favorite player to free agency, you still want them to do well you just probably won't root for their team. The only difference is we are basically losing our entire team to free agency. Its like the idea of Theseus's ship. Is it the same team if all the players are the same but the name and location is different?
I’ll follow at a distance without much emotional investment (just to see what they change, etc..). If the announcers suck or something it’ll be easier to break free completely.
Just going local team (Flyers) so I’d be able to go to games
Will definitely be at the first Utah vs Philly game to see our guys. Everytime I went to WF to watch the Yotes, they lost. I know damn well Utah is going to beat the Flyers 5-0
I'll be a homeless fan. There are teams with great players that I'll watch regularly like I usually do, and teams I'd prefer to see winning in the playoffs. However, I ain't throwing on another sweater.
Not local to Phoenix, but I'm leaning towards Seattle. I already liked them, and they check a lot of the boxes the Yotes did as well in terms of team identity and playstyle. Lots of youth, no real superstars, play a gritty, aggressive forechecking style of hockey. I already had a Daccord jersey on order, so might as well make it official.
Other options were the Canes and Preds, but the Canes are too much of a juggernaut to be my primary team and I can't give my best friend the satisfaction of converting me to his team. I still root for both of them, but they won't be my number one team.
I will say that if SLC more or less keeps the team together I will probably eventually break down and follow them out of attachment to the players. But it'll be tough to enjoy any success from them for a while.
Depends on the Utah rebrand.. If it looks cool enough, I'll follow. I know it won't be Kachina level, but nothing is.
I can't hate Smith for wanting a team and doing what he needed to do to get one. 1.3 billion for a team with an estimated value of 500 million or so.
Otherwise, Sharks and Hurricanes as a west/east team combo.
Due to proximity and being the only other team I've visited in their stadium, I think Vegas will be my team. I don't have it in me to root for whatever this Utah abomination is.
Anyone who plays against Utah. In all seriousness I have no idea. My appetite for hockey will be weak after what they did with our Yotes. I guess I’ll just watch DBacks baseball this summer and go from there
Kraken.
They've been my planned backup for a while if the yotes folded. No gutting history from my home town team (leafs) and no bitter taste from attempting to support SLC.
Also, Seattle is an awesome city so it provides more excuses to visit once in a while.
I’ve been a pens fan since I started watching hockey, so I’ll probably just keep watching them as my only main team now. In terms of Coyotes replacements, I guess I’ll hop on the panthers bandwagon since I’m at university in Florida. But I probably won’t follow them as closely as I did the yotes. But I’m really not sure, I think I need to wait until next season to collect my thoughts. Since I’m not an AZ native idrk if I’ll follow to SLC or wait for the potential expansion yotes or move on entirely yet.
I’ll probably root for the San Jose Sharks. I’m an out of state fan that’s lived in Oklahoma my whole life. Suns have been my team and have remained that. Even though I live in OKC. Thunder/Zombie Sonics are my #2. Even though I didn’t like how we got them.
I’m a 49er/Giants fan though in NFL/MLB. Probably would have been Dback fan if they existed in the late 80s/early 90s. I was a 49er fan before I got into NBA as a kid. PHX/Arizona Cardinals are my #2. Fandom is complex. I’ve always loved the desert, and mountains over trees/greenland. SW Oklahoma where I grew up has canyons and is fringe desert like in some areas. I don’t pull for Texas based teams or KC. So Arizona/Colorado or Bay Area teams I pull for.
Gonna see how the off-season plays out with this roster. If the core remains intact, I will definitely be paying attention and begrudgingly root for SLC. If players start heading off in different directions, I might go free agent for a while until I settle on a new team. Leading candidates are the Kraken and Canes. Rooting foe SLC is also contingent on what stories come out about how all of this went down after the deal is done. This does fucking suck.
I started following the Rangers as a secondary team after the Tempe vote. Eastern conference, old team with a lot of history, and I already followed some other New York teams. It just made sense.
This past week has been very complicated in terms of hockey.
That’s where I’m at too. It will be hard to root for teams in cities where Phoenix has other pro sports rivalries. That eliminates all the west coast teams and CO.
SLC because I'm attached to the players and want to see how the rebuild plays out, but whenever I'm able to move to Washington the Kraken may end up becoming my main team.
Golden Knights have been my backup team since 2017. I also like watching the Rangers. Zero chance I follow this team to Salt Lake. Ryan Smith can eat a dick
I’m just gonna go only my Caps as they’ve been my main with the Yotes being essentially main for the west. Idk maybe I’ll cheer for Seattle idk I’ll see where my next job takes me.
I’m originally from Florida, moved to the Bay Area a few years ago. Never really was a Panthers or Lightning fan. I tried with the Sharks but the couple years I was here, they weren’t great. I wanted a team to call my own and found the Yotes to be really fun to watch and root for, plus the fanbase is amazing. Probably will stick with the Sharks. Hopefully they get better..
I'm planning on rooting for the devils and rags since I grew up in new york and jersey respectively and because they have really good fan cultures but I honestly think it will be awhile until I fully adjust to them because the loss of the Yotes is still too much on me
Penguins. They're my primary team anyway, growing up in that area. I encourage anyone here to jump onto the bandwagon, since they're probably going to miss the playoffs by a point for the 2nd year in a row and the Sidney Crosby era is nearing its end so no one can accuse you of frontrunning anymore.
I believe in GMBA and the players so atleast for the short term I’ll probably root for them in Utah.
NJ is my local team so I’ll probably shift to them too.
I’m rooting for the players I’ve been rooting for for the past 5 years. I want to see BA finish this rebuild. It sucks it won’t be for our state, but we’re orphans now. Once that core group breaks up via free agency or trades I will probably just watch games in general when they’re on but not have a team I’m a fan of. I won’t buy any merch though
I’m super new to hockey and I only got into following the Yotes this year because when I did live in the US i lived in Phoenix for about 6 years. Honestly it’s weird because besides living in Miami for 6 months I’ve got no connection or family members living in other states or connected to other teams, so it’s probably gonna be the Panthers for me.
You can’t not root for Matthews he’s gonna hit 70 and if you know hockey and hockey culture Auston Matthews dunks on Mureulo (not sorry if I blew the last name spelling but yeah buddy you’re hated. Your son is a bitch with a tiny piece (verified). Look at the end of the day if our product is the Jesus of Toronto which is the Jesus of hockey I’ll take Toronto and Matthews any day over any team under Mureulo. Alex needs to sell the rights for the logo and name and also should put a bag over his head and play in traffic while asking his son to direct him. That would kill two birds with one stone.
Depends on the land auction to a degree. I’m from Maryland but didn’t get into hockey until moving here. So may just pivot to the Capitals for a team I have a regional tie to if they don’t bother with the land auction. In terms of doing a long term commitment.
If AM wins the auction, will likely just root for our crew in Utah for a few years until we get the Yotes back.
I was a diehard Yotes fan always, but can’t do SLC so I’m between the Flames and Jackets at the moment not sure yet tho , I’m a guy who has to have a favorite team…I also don’t have any faith in Meruelo or Bettman getting back to AZ, I think it’s over for the Yotes forever
I’ve always cheered for the Bruins in the playoffs cause the Yotes would never make it. Naturally that would be a team I could easily start cheering for full time. Doesn’t fill the void though. Probably gonna take a year off. It feels like a bad break up and I need time to assess where my heart will go next. All my buddies cheer for the Habs or Leafs so would be fun to cheer for the Bruins so I dunno. Sure as fuck ain’t gonna be Utah.
I was a Canucks fan prior, but the Kraken exist now and are on the USA side of the PNW, so 99% sure it'll be Kraken. And I still like the Wild a bit and will hope for them to pummel Dallas, Colorado, and SLC in every meet up.
Tbh if the rebrand is nice I might just follow them to Utah. I'm not from Arizona so I don't really have loyalties in that regard but I understand most of the fanbase wanting nothing to do with the Utah team.
Utah. Owner didn't move them. Forced to sell because he sucks. You either like the guys on the team or, as Seinfeld once said, "you're just rooting for laundry".
Now we're gonna see what someone with money who's committed to the project can do with the players most of you declared to care about. Good luck to them.
I respectfully disagree with this and particularly disagree with the insinuation that not rooting for the team in Utah makes any declarations about caring for the players disingenuous.
In modern sports, most players change and move around a ton and you root for the guys wearing the laundry because the laundry is the constant that represents the home. It's always your laundry, these aren't always your players.
I moved away from Arizona and watching the coyotes has been a way to stay connected to home. Watching the side stories, the community outreach, the desert backgrounds, the panoramic shots of the valley and mountains during the game, knowing that a friend or family member is in the building... Those things brought me home while I was watching and none of that will be Arizona anymore.
I still care about guys on this current squad, I'll be happy for them if they have success in Utah (or wherever they end up), and I'll be happy to see hockey succeed in a new market under better ownership, but that doesn't mean I'm going to become a fan of a Utah team. Utah isn't my home.
Also, Seinfeld is just trying to cope with being a Mets fan in a Yankees world.
The suns and diamondbacks
Rally the Valley
This too
Roadrunners
Aren’t they moving to PHX now
That’s what I’ve seen but I don’t want Tucson to lose their team too
Personally, I don’t think I’m going to root for anyone, I’ll prob just tune into hockey when it’s on tv but idk. It definitely won’t be Salt Lake City since I have no connection to Utah at all. I’m not trying to be bitter at all but I just don’t see myself rooting for anyone but my Desert Dogs.
Anyone but Utah will be my opinion
I understand but what about rooting for guys like Keller, crouse, Cooley, doan, guenther ?
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Utah did anything wrong. All of this falls on AM. Utah was given the opportunity to purchase an NHL team and of course they took it. I’m not saying I’m going to root for Utah, but I’m not sure they’re who we should be upset with.
there are rumors that the new owner hasnt been playing nice the past year or so. meddling in the Tempe vote possibly…
Dude. They've had over a decade to figure their shit out
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Utah did anything wrong. All of this falls on AM. Utah was given the opportunity to purchase an NHL team and of course they took it. I’m not saying I’m going to root for Utah, but I’m not sure they’re who we should be upset with.
I disagree. Utah fans did nothing wrong, but Ryan Smith was actively bankrolling the Tempe No vote to make sure the Yotes didn’t get a new home
I’d like to hear this from more than one source but I’m sure more will come out one day.
You could try another team of the four corner republic. Why go Vegas? Yuck.
Noone. I will be unfollowing all NHL related things for the foreseeable future. If and/or when Arizona gets an expansion/transfer team, I will reinsert myself. I hate transient fans, and refuse to become one myself. It was fun while it lasted everyone.
Are you a transient fan if your team leaves you?
In my opinion, you're a transient fan if you take your fandom out of the state you were born and raised in. I was born here, raised here, I'm not here now (work commitments), and I plan to retire and die here. My teams are all here, and if they leave, they leave behind my fandom. I have enough of that (chasing after billionaires like some simp with a strange obsession with pain and suffering) at home already! I am after all, an Arizona Sports fan.
By your logic I'm already a transient fan in every other sport I like so why not hockey too?
Don't let my logic (flawed or otherwise) get in the way of your fandom, friend. To each, their own. I was just providing context to my decision to not root for any other teams in the NHL.
Roadrunners and Leafs (local team) for me next season. Planning to watch more college hockey as well since I enjoyed watching the Frozen Four last weekend.
Canes. I started following them in 2020 during the pandemic bubble when I lived in NC. Yotes were still my first, but they became a background second, so I'll probably just jump fully on board with them.
Canes for me because they like trolling the other teams and their black jerseys are sweet
Bunch of jerks.
I figure a whalers jersey for Ayers might be the most trolling I can do
As a Canes fan, The Yotes were my secondary team simply because y’all have my favorite logo. The Kachina is absolutely sick and it disgusts me that we are gonna lose it
I honestly have no idea. I live in Missouri but don't know if I can see myself rooting for the Blues. I've lived in KS/MO for over 20 years now but AZ is still home to me. I've got good memories of the Yotes. My dad was a season ticket holder for the first 2-3 seasons. I remember they had this fair/carnival thing the first year. Got to go around and get autographs from pretty much the entire team... This shit sucks guys.

I'm thinking of following a team from each division. Probably going to roll with VGK, Preds, Panthers, and Canes after the season ends.
Come to Nashville, have a beer, enjoy heckling the new Salt Lake team.
I am one hundo hitting Bridgestone next year to sing Garth Brooks and hurl a catfish I snuck in in my underwear onto the ice.
Welcome to Vegas, fellow desert hockey bro
Bro, I am literally going to be in Vegas next week. Does T-Mobile still throw like a block party if the knights are playing an away playoff game? Cause if they are, I'm fuckin THERE.
Yep, I believe they hold watch parties every road playoff game. Even if they don’t, you can hit up one of the many bars on the Strip, they’ll all be showing the games
I'll probably be closer to downtown during my stay, but I guess if I can find a spot with knights fans to be loud and scream, I'll be there. Thanks for the info!
Np bro. Welcome to the Knights fam

Denver and ASU
Rangers, hoping for a rempe fight every game
Anyone who plays against Utah. In all seriousness I have no idea. My appetite for hockey will be weak after what they did with our Yotes. I guess I’ll just watch DBacks baseball this summer and go from there

Im trying Minnesota but learning a new roster and play style, with different broadcast team just doesn't feel right
Leafs for Doaner, Domi, Matthews, and Kneis to get a ring. Cant stand the toxic fans but I love my former Yotes and AZ players more than I hate them.
Red Wings since my dad is from Detroit and got family there, and in meantime hope Meruelo he actually buys the land
I’ll probably root for the San Jose Sharks. I’m an out of state fan that’s lived in Oklahoma my whole life. Suns have been my team and have remained that. Even though I live in OKC. Jets, didn't deserve to lose their franchise like us.
Jets fan here, we feel gutted for yall and know what you are going through. We welcome all of you with a warm virtual hug
Thank you.
im so sorry yote bros :( yall and the org deserve better

I’ll be rooting for the Preds going forward. I have family in the area so I can visit them and go watch a game at Bridgestone at least once a year.
I’m pulling for the preds unless the coyotes come back as an expansion team within the 5 year timeframe (not holding my breath on that)
I’m originally from Florida, moved to the Bay Area a few years ago. Never really was a Panthers or Lightning fan. I tried with the Sharks but the couple years I was here, they weren’t great. Back to Rangers, not a total loss
When or if they give us an expansion, then I'll root for my Yotes. Until then, I'm done with the NHL.
Just out of curiosity are they keeping the name Coyotes in Utah or going full on rebrand?
Rebrand. AM keeps rights to the coyotes logo and name.
Moved to NYC for work so probably Rangers or Islanders.
I’m rooting for the players I’ve been rooting for for the past 5 years. I want to see BA finish this rebuild. It sucks it won’t be for our state, but we’re orphans now.
Golden Knights, the other desert team. Them or the Avs, honestly both I want them to destroy the Utah team for years to come
Well I’m from Seattle so Kraken for me but sooooooo pissed! The Yotes got me into Hockey!
I live in DC now so let’s go Caps
Florida. Because they have Tkachuk a Coyotes decedent! Or SLC because they have our who team. Brutal.
I feel like it won't be the Yotes though. It'll be another team with the same name but it won't be them.
*good since ever
#GoAvsGo
The San Jose Sharks lmfao
