We have one of these and it is a CURSE.
I'm in MN, and that room is 35 degrees all winter and 90 degrees all summer. It costs a fortune to heat. It's technically my dining room, but I've only eaten in there probably 5 times in 11 years. We basically use it as a big mud room.
It leaks, from multiple spots.
My yard has quite a few pine trees. The upper panels are always coated in a layer of grime and pine needles. It always looks nasty.
I wish a tree would fall on it so I could use the insurance money to build a normal dining room.
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that! We live in GA. We can comfortably use the room about 10 months of the year. The warmer months are actually better because between our shady backyard, the ceiling fan, and the AC that comes in through the French doors, it’s been surprisingly comfortable even when it’s blistering hot. The windows are also UV tinted. The coldest part of the winter we only use if we bring our space heater out (we put our Christmas tree out there last year!)
The rest of our house is a 1600sq ft ranch so the heating/cooling aspect hasn’t been too big of a disadvantage for us thankfully!
We’ve lived in this house for exactly a year now, but we were able to figure out that this add-on is about 10 years old. Which I appreciate, because we know it’s solid! No leaks or any other issues like that so far.
Biggest down side has been keeping the roof clean. My husband usually gets of a ladder with a leaf blower, but I did have to get up there and scrub the windows during pollen season this year which wasn’t fun
It may be worth it to invest in a power washer. It would save some scrubbing in the pollen season. I don't know off the top of my head what the appropriate PSI would be to not damage the materials, though. That I would ask a tradie.
Where you live plays a huge part with it not leaking. In MN, where that other person lives the weather varies too much for the movement that happens with these systems.
LOL I looked a this and was like "Looks like GA, my japanese maples look just like that right now and is that pinestraw and pine trees or oak trees, etc."
too funny! saludos from Atlanta!
I was just about to ask the logistics of a room like this. At first glance, it looks great, but I can't imagine the cost of heating/cooling and cleaning. Maybe it makes more sense somewhere where the weather is naturally agreeable, but not where I live!
We used to have a small solarium in Vancouver and could use it almost year round, though it usually was a "rainarium." Not anywhere near as glamorous as this, but actually very nice during the rainy seasons!
Spend a few hundred bucks and get some peel and stick reflective tint [For example](https://www.amazon.com/Privacy-Window-Blocking-Static-Black-Silver/dp/B0C4Y4DVRV/ref=sr_1_12?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.yDXjYAKY76WP1zSjLScjuIlnrPdcXPy3X-uMI-3_ar2vSTt6pERumS57BUeQh6Iic51QbMiGOBAwsZdQ1MgG-85Dr0a-abKfNYp76lGYYYFxRPYm3bteA5LpPOSRxXA_7VX_B9axifyRwBkaLflafU7owN4LzVCjc05qeBnjdxiTwXCk2EwxHGgt3bEgVLiJtfGYCzvEl4HYCjjt24k26ud8no3SeBeprjgRsTADodhAtTnuTFEbrj1jVGlIbAXyQGuG3D-vLAyoH6BhyvRG6DOtkBLhPYFRxIPLC7HaOh0.775k7mMB1BW3OPEme10N2-eNrDAqMnD05dyVxRgecrg&dib_tag=se&keywords=peel%2Band%2Bstick%2Bwindow%2Bfilm&qid=1720287817&sr=8-12&th=1) Slap that all over the glass and it should significantly cut down on the heat.
For the grime and stuff I would just treat it like car glass: give it a good, deep cleaning [maybe use an auto glass stripper if necessary](https://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Glass-91411-Stripper-Fluid_Ounces/dp/B07YP6Q437/ref=sr_1_2?crid=346105PIFZX1J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.gqVurpc-G-JFRIbpzc8HtV7ApMLFLRi8U5FZyTO6wfKjesECjI5lwHwSUsJ9bnlT0LFilJ2Fp3RvuwirQA6t1sQ3Zm-QO_ZhxYlCClO3BfHhKycG13W8LmZgkIJ_YcufJYE1FL8ODHK9OJdG1i9mBytfpexF6cqHxPBaGTiW6-yyIASQpxcb5rkI71aEek6Uo1IIdCzQDySNW0ZuWp9H51aV1szBntvATaS_OvrmkXOb9UDN55tbQmNX6cNE-FlhyrOHzjEvz8zriuVQ3WrlahIkpwROZRaq0oYW4hh0-lQ.y2XfVT_q4_WF0VdMS8dc3ubF2j4g3UhVBl7ObDOibyQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=auto+glass+stripper&qid=1720287921&sprefix=auto+glass+strippe%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-2) and then throw on a nice auto glass ceramic coating or rainX layer. If you do it right, everything should just hose off in the future.
For the leaks there's not much you can do other than re-caulk it. Might be worth just hiring someone for that. Or you could just dab caulk onto the leaking spots but that wouldn't look nearly as nice over time.
We are in the south in an area that averages a couple snow days every few years 😭 last winter was our first one in the house and I was hoping for one so bad but it never came. Hopefully this year!
In the UK we call these conservatories, and they're used to store all the junk you don't know where else to put. Fridged cold in the winter and basically inhospitable in the summer.
They can look cozy though
I love the Japanese maple too :) we got so lucky, this house came with that one in the backyard and two beautiful ones framing our front door! I’m obsessed
I just had a plain old screened in porch quoted for my place in Florida and the price came back at $25K lol. Just aluminum and mesh. I’d be scared to have this boy priced up nowadays. Looks great
Oof!! I actually don’t know much about all of that, we bought this house last year and as far as we know this was an add-on to the house approximately 8/10 years ago. Which I appreciate, because I know it’s solid!
I have a similar solarium, though not in as good a condition. Are your curved panels glass, or something else? How old is it? Ours is almost 45 years old... leaks through the original seams were an issue, so I've re-covered the top with corrugated (smoky transparent) panels. It took direct sun for decades.
I believe they are glass as well. We’ve only owned this house for a year but we were able to find out that this room was added on about 8/10 years ago. No leaks so far but fingers crossed obviously!
It’s not ~easy~ I wouldn’t say haha but between a leaf blower, our hose, and some long poles with scrubby pads on them we’ve been able to keep it looking decent enough! Obviously there’s some debris on the ceiling in these pics as we’ve gotten a lot of rain the last few days
Gorgeous!!!! So cozy. Your doggos look like they love it too ;)
Off topic: what products do you use to clean your flooring? I rent and this looks like the same flooring we have throughout the downstairs area. My landlord said they "used a machine" to clean but we can't afford that. I've been using Bona but curious if there's a better product.
Oh man. I got to enjoy one of these while I studied in Ireland. I remember curling up with a book and just escaping to another world.
Now I live in satans asshole… and have enough sun spots to create a topographic map of middle earth. 🤷♀️
There are gutters around the top edge and we did a bit of landscaping around it and have had no drainage issues so far! No ants and mice either, but I bet the rodents I can attribute to the fact that my dogs are always out there :P we’ve surprisingly had bigger bug issues in rooms on the complete opposite side of our house, haha
for us it’s more that mice and ants seem to like living underneath it. some ants are getting in through there but the mice seem to burrow around ours and then get in other ways to the other areas of the house. still an amazing room to have and we’ll get the pests under control!
Thank you!!! I got it from Old Time Pottery. I actually have the exact rug in a different color scheme in another room my house bc I love it so much😂 unfortunately I can’t find the exact brand name on the tags
I would consider committing murder to have a solarium like this. It’s gorgeous! We have a sun room where one wall is just two sets of sliding glass doors which is nice, but… this is so much nicer. 😍
There *are* some subtle differences between them. Solariums often have that curved glass, which conservatories pretty much never have. Conservatories also often have a low wall around the base, which solariums tend not to have.

Man this is nice, I need one of these when I have my own house
just buy an old Wendy's
That was my first thought, "they live in an old Wendy's."
Or an old Rax (IYKYK)
Lol, had just said exactly that before reading your comment
I wanted one until I realized I live in SE Texas. I already have an oven.
It will cost 50k… I want one too but 50k hurts
my daughter’s fiancé has a house in the hamptons with two solariums.
[удалено]
yes, it was quite a find. and he has horses too. snoopy and prickly pete.
Agreed. I'd spend most of my time in it.
Stunning. I am so jealous. I would never leave this room! And cute dogs, too.
This is original content!
We need a weekly update from this place, wow!
🫡your wish is my command! Lol. I’d love to update by the end of the summer so see how big my plants get
Yay!

We’re definitely considering that!! Just haven’t gotten around to it yet lol

Which side of your house is it on?
It’s in the back off of our main living room. It faces directly north, if that’s what you’re asking
I’m also in Georgia and looking to build a solarium but debating size. Can ask the dimension of yours?
I was just about to ask the logistics of a room like this. At first glance, it looks great, but I can't imagine the cost of heating/cooling and cleaning. Maybe it makes more sense somewhere where the weather is naturally agreeable, but not where I live!
Ya I get too much hail in my area. Looks cool but no thanks.
Me, already mentally planning where to put my solarium until I saw this comment
We used to have a small solarium in Vancouver and could use it almost year round, though it usually was a "rainarium." Not anywhere near as glamorous as this, but actually very nice during the rainy seasons!

Lol I live in MN too. Thank you for tempering my dream of having a solarium. Maybe a room with a skylight and sliding doors instead.
Thank you for this. I’m in MN and I need regular reminders that sun rooms like these are not for us.
Looking at the pics it just looks cold to me. Unless it has underfloor heating it doesn't look cosy.
Catch me out there DURING the rainstorm if I ever had this. I’d bring a blanket and a book and read till I fell asleep to the sound of rain.
Yessss I LOVE rainy days out there!!! the pictures of the rain don’t do it justice since it can get pretty dark
One of the most enjoyable spaces I have ever seen.
That is so sweet! Thank you :)
This is exactly what I want at my house one day. Amazing!
So calm and peaceful. Loving the muted colours and the Doggos are sweet.
Thank you!! :)
It looks out of a book! So cozy and very tasteful. Great job
Thank you :) I appreciate it!
I need one. A solarium...the dogs...whatever.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
We make that joke allllll the time ahaha
Absolutely enchanting 😍
Wow congratulations on having such a beautiful space!!

:)
This is gorgeous
Gorgeous ughhhh you’re blessed
Does it ever snow there? I bet that would look very cozy as well.

I opted for a solid roof conservatory with skylights. Absolute game changer.
I want one of these for my wife's house plant obsession. How much does something like this cost?
Unfortunately I don’t have that info as it was already a part of the house when we bought it :(
Gorgeous! I love to read, so this is a dream feature for me. Special S/O to the Japanese maple, especially in that last pic — one of my favorites.
I love the Japanese maple too :) we got so lucky, this house came with that one in the backyard and two beautiful ones framing our front door! I’m obsessed
This looks great! Would love to hang out there and read with the dogs. Really love all the plants too
That's a really pretty area rug.
So beautiful I want one of these😍 and with the rain?? Ugh so nice
I would love to sit and read 📚 and watch my 🦅 birds fly around !
Oh my gosh. So cozy
Magical
Good lord the jealousy I feel
I just had a plain old screened in porch quoted for my place in Florida and the price came back at $25K lol. Just aluminum and mesh. I’d be scared to have this boy priced up nowadays. Looks great

It is a very tranquil looking room! Love it!!! I want something like this!
Can I live with you?
How difficult is it to clean the roof of that room? I’d imagine tree debris gets on top quite often lol. Beautiful room though.
I love my sunroom- we have a very similar aesthetic but tall sliders vs the rounded glass. I live out there 🥰
Oooh love that!!
Omg its gorgeous! I love your style!!
Thank you :)
This is breathtaking 😍 Extra bonus like for the cutest good boys 🙂
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Amazing but really needs to triple the plants!
Gorgeous!!!! So cozy. Your doggos look like they love it too ;) Off topic: what products do you use to clean your flooring? It’s beautiful! I am envious, and just put “solarium” on my dream home list. Thanks for sharing the beauty!!
Oh man. I got to enjoy one of these while I studied in Ireland. I remember curling up with a book and just escaping to another world. Now I live in satans asshole… and have enough sun spots to create a topographic map of middle earth. 🤷♀️
Your dogs are precious
<3
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
Ma'am this is a Wendy's.
Wow 😍 what I wouldn’t do for a solarium
Another solarium?!
One for Snoopy and Prickly Pete each
hows the drainage around yours when it rains and do you have ant and mice problems like i do with mine lol?
There are gutters around the top edge and we did a bit of landscaping around it and have had no drainage issues so far! No ants and mice either, but I bet the rodents I can attribute to the fact that my dogs are always out there :P we’ve surprisingly had bigger bug issues in rooms on the complete opposite side of our house, haha

Okay, I’m adding solarium to my dream house list.
Make it a rustic accent piece in your solarium.
Do you have 2 solariums? That would be quite a find.
Just one :)
Where did you get that rug? I love the pattern and colors.
Well this is just dreamy 😍
Is this what we’re calling conservatories now ?
There *are* some subtle differences between them. Solariums often have that curved glass, which conservatories pretty much never have. Conservatories also often have a low wall around the base, which solariums tend not to have.
Envy!
Beautiful and peaceful 😻
Dream solarium
[удалено]
I could not imagine one of these rooms with no shade!
Gorgeous room
What’s the difference between this and a conservatory?
Primarily the curved glass, I believe. Conservatories also tend to have a small "half wall" around the base, whereas solariums have glass going all the way down.
Great pictures! I'd spend a lot of time in there.
Well thanks for the invite!
As an Arizonan, this would be comfortable to use three weeks out of the year lol. Curse this damned heat.
Omg imagine sitting in here on a fat ass bean bag, reading a book while it's pissing it down outside 😍
You just need to add that smoke tint, and you have yourself a 1990s Wendy's!
Beautiful
Love!! 😍 Would love this to grow plants in
Do you live inside of a Wendy's?
Well it is lovely!
A dream.
What a dream
Gorgeous!
I am very jealous of this
I never knew I needed a solarium but I do now thanks ! Looks gorgeous
This is beautiful
Dogs for the win
Do you live in a Wendy’s?
I would love to have a room like this in my house, it’s beautiful!
Your dogs are beautiful!
I would absolutely live in that room.
So cozy! When I was house hunting, I viewed a home with a solarium and this was my short-lived dream. Love what you have done here!
I love this! I would love a bigggg comfy couch or chair in there. Is that possible?
This is gorgeous.
Where in the world are you living? Seasoned expat here, I would love to create a nest like that. It gives a sense of belonging, and a feeling of being done with the rush. Lovely.
Sir, this is a Wendy's
What breed of dogs? This is a forever home
I feel like I would be in there all the time!
I could never have that in so cal 💀
how did you have it made, is it a brand? how much did cost?
Serious question: what’s it like in there _during_ the rain?
Can I live in this room?
Beautiful ❤️
Excuse me but I would die for this. You need more plants!!
Minor question, did any kid ever kicked a ball or something through the glass walls? I am considering turning a larger balcony at home into one of these but a bit unsure about the glass walls.
Can you guys like .. adopt me?
Ma’am, this is a Wendy’s
I’d kill for a solarium.
So peaceful
So dreamy!
Lovely room! Where'd you get the furniture ?? Been looking for something like that for a while but all the cushions looked so thin. I love how comfy these look!
Dream room
To have one of these is my dream
Everyone secretly imagined themselves having coitus here.
🫣😄
Do you know the name of your patio seating sets? I would love to get one too!
Can I live there? pls
My dream house would have a sunroom. I can imagine the rainy days or the clear nights where you can just look up into the night sky. So comfy!
An indoor and outdoor oasis!! 😍👌 Also, your dogs are so cute!! 🥹❤️
You have a wonderful home you've got there. And your dog's feeling cozy. Love this, thanks for sharing.
this just looks absolutely beautiful 😍
Does it not get impossibly hot? My sun room is an oven
Manifesting this house with dogs for me and my husband
Very cozy and nice
Gorgeous spot, but the dogs are the show stopper for me!
Oh my gawd, this is peak atmosphere in your room.
Cant wait to retire and live in a cozy house like this
We appreciate the bonus dog pic!!!
my goal in life is so have a solarium
I like, but have also watched too many true crime documentaries to feel entirely safe in there /s sort of
That's so beautiful!
The trees in the garden just top it all off 😩
Ughh, a dream of mine. So many older folks who were friends of my grandma had houses like this and I remember visiting as a kid and feeling so cozy and safe and enchanted
Ok writing down Solarium in my future house ✍🏻🩷
