Pretty tankful so far for Warks choice of tactics in this innings. Bat serenely for 50 overs going at only 3s and then losing wickets in a rush trying to get the score moving at a late stage and still only going at 3s.
Not exactly giving themselves the best of chances in this match. On Taunton pitches this year day 4 is very easy to bat, that being said I wouldn't trust Somerset to bat well on even the flattest of roads
Whilst I understand the frustration, surely you can see the positive progress from the 'everyone being absolutely rubbish at everything ' policy you had in place last round?
I think we struggle to switch between formats, took us a while to settle into the Blast from the CC opening run and then switching back last week was naff but this week we're ace
Certainly makes a change from two years of Benkyball
Pretty funny innings from Clark, starts by leaving a ball for four which is paradoxically given leg byes. Ends with two consecutive concussion checks and helmet replacements, opting to use bat on the third bouncer to his own demise
[Back end of this Farbrace interview talks about Robinson and England](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6x-E1EVayU) - a lot of funny PR talk (random Euros tangent from Paul) but reading between the lines I think you can figure out some good insight into how Robinson's taken being dropped, and the Telegraph article on the front page of the sub
Do you reckon Jimmys just taken the Mentor job so he’s around the squad, fit and bowling for when the inevitable happens and all the new bowlers break down at once? As tends to happen whenever we try to blood a new pace attack..
Imagine the team management meeting after our 5th quick of the year goes down.
Blobby: "Well that's that 17yr old we pulled out of the Surrey Leagues gone, who would have thought he'd get a back fracture bowling bouncers for 20 overs straight?"
Stokesy: "Yeah surprised me that"
Baz: "Anyway, so does anyone know anyone else we can get in for the Boxing Day Test? Anyone?"
Jimmy: "You know what I think I know a guy....."
Big fan of Kashif Ali hitting twin 50s
Durham have been so much worse than I expected. Form with bat and ball has almost completely 180'd from last year
Just had a look at Kimber's stats for the game, delighted to see he got 38 in 21 balls, three fours and four sixes - not just us then, he'll have a tonk at anyone
Honestly if he develops into a power-hitting lower-order batter, he might go further than imagined
Lancs bowling again is pure vibes, high on their own supply. Pitch has stopped behaving, they’re handing control over to Notts to plod on. Could have finished today 400 to the good with a day to bowl em out.
At this point we really have to admire his commitment to not bowling. He might be the greatest non-bowler ever. I can't remember the last time someone was as good at not bowling as him.
I feel George Garton's been not bowling for about 5 years. And I seem to remember Reece Topley having a massive hiatus from bowling which seemed to go on for about 10 years.
I said yesterday that ~220 was the upper limit for this chase so I guess I'll just have to hope that a combination of weather, good batting, and Surrey going for the batting points allows us to drag out a draw
According to people online it's either that, the golf influencer relationship, too many pizzas, being annoying, not training enough, general attitude towards training, being too focussed on doing podcasts, or a combo of all these. His test stats are amazing though.
Given he bowled three overs today and then went off the field, I'm guessing he's not in his best nick right now - took two wickets though, the duality of Robbo
Isn't it mad that there's a Duality of Robbo and it only involves one of the Robbos. There's literally a whole other Robbo in addition. We have a plurality of Robbos.
This rain might unironically save our free range, non GMO, no added salt, Essex artisanal bacon
(Yours from the Chelmsford food market for £8 a rasher)
Question. What if he overbowls himself and picks up a tiny side strain or similar and has to sit out ONE (1) test. He’s only picked for Lords. Is that him done or the farewell is moved to the second test?
If Jimmy keeps playing for Lancashire then something tells me there will be a lot of County batsmen out there wanting Key's blood.
"I already only average 31 in County, leave me alone FFS."
Sometimes with older players they are picked on reputation, or have stuck around because their team is going through a rough period. Late ponting when his eyes had gone for example or southee more recently.
Anderson legitimately still is the best england bowler. Ignore the fact he's 42. He's just one of the rare players who will keep going until he decides he can't contribute. I understand the idea of bringing in new players but sometimes, just sometimes when you have an absolute worldie let them decide
The ground is bone dry at the Oval yet we’ve had barely any play. At no stage has it been raining heavily enough to stop play imo but what do I know. Since when has it been policy to go off after feeling a raindrop? Somehow it must be Surrey’s fault
Sussex looking good for promotion this season, another great result given they were put in to bat on a green seamer.
Simpson has been a brilliant signing and they've made good use of overseas signings to replace Pujara and Seales effectively. Sean Hunt has been a brilliant emerging talent too.
Haines, Pujara(?), Alsop and Coles is a decent top order but they could do with a specialist opener for next season if they want to push on. The loss of Ali Orr still bites deep...
Thoughts on their chances in Div One? Probably likely to go straight back down looking at the other teams up there.
Our Seam bowling depth is absolutely wafer thin. We're unlikely to be allowed Jofra in the CC even if he's fit and if one of our current 3 goes injured we don't have much in the 2s to bring through. Brad Currie and that's about it. We're a bit better for batsmen but yes, still a massive shame Orr went.
Agreed, we need to sign a seamer. Hunt looks very promising but can't be relied upon to be consistent next season. Robinson might be called back up to England. McAndew is excellent but best as a first change and no guarantee he will be available next year.
That would leave us with Karvelas, Currie, FHP and Crocombe which is a seam attack that would strike fear into the hearts of nobody.
I had no idea he was this good quite honestly. I knew he was a solid bat and decent gloveman but he's been outstanding.
Was he a late bloomer at Middlesex or has he just gone under the radar for most of his career?
Oh that is sexy.
He's realised that by helping the dog botherer get rid of our greatest ever bowler (YMMV based on Age/Contrariness) he's gonna have to be the senior bowler this summer.
Absolutely no way Jimmy is retiring altogether when he’s looking this fit, sharpe and bowling with pace and bounce. He’ll take your little mentorship job Robert, he’ll smile and say thank you and then spend the summer wiping out our batting line up in the nets and “accidentally” chucking the ball in the direction of your head whenever you walk by…
Then he’ll head back to Lancs and decimate some champo kids in September just to ram home his dominance. Back in the test side for Pakistan.
Can't believe we're forcing this guy to retire.
Yeah he's not going to play in the Ashes but so long as he's good enough to take wickets until then who gives a shit.
That included a Creepy Duck (that's not Donald in ghost form) https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/county-championship-2021-1244186/lancashire-vs-kent-group-3-1244288/full-scorecard
It's an absolute fucking joke. Anderson is as fit as a fiddle, there is no evidence whatsoever that he won't make it to Australia next year. The rule book on longevity in sport is being rewritten. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all won GS after the age of 35. Tom Brady played very respectably in the NFL into his mid-40s, and was MVP in the Superbowl aged 42. Ronnie O' Sullivan is still the best snooker player in the world in his late forties.
I have absolutely no doubt that Anderson will be worth his place in the England team 12 months from now. I think it is embarrassing and semi-disgraceful that he has not only been retired against his will, but also forced to pretend publicly that he agrees with the decision and wants to retire.
The guy is still easily the best bowler in England. Easily. His figures today are no surprise to anyone. This is a monumentally stupid decision.
It’s tremendously sad to see a giant of the English game be retired seemingly against his will when he’s got so much left to give to the team and sport.
He does look in great physical condition. He’s bowled with pace and bounce today. Who gives a fuck if he won’t be effective in Australia. Play him in the UK while he’s still able to perform at this level. It’s not like anyone else is knocking down the door.
As I said, we're going to see more participants across all sports changing the rules of longevity because we know more about biology, anatomy, nutrition, sports science, etc.
If Anderson's body was knackered, he couldn't have bowled by far the most overs of any English seamer in India. He has easily got another 18 months in his body.
I think winning the Ashes in Australia is the ECB's white whale and they'll do whatever they can to win it. Including playing all their young seamers in home conditions when you could just get Jimmy to demolish a team
Are these new readers in the room with us right now?
I remember there being a brief period during COVID where the Champo was the only cricket being streamed anywhere in the world for about two weeks. We had a sudden massive influx of very confused Indians asking why everyone was pledging allegiance to Haseeb Hameed and wondering what a Darren Stevens was. Fun times.
Classic disappointing Somerset innings.
Nothing from the opening partnership. 50s but no hundreds, middle order collapse, poor start to the new day.
Awful game so far especially after moments of promise in both innings
Do think we're reaching a stage where questions have to be asked about Hurry & Kerr.
They've been unable to resolve the opening partnership issue in the years since they've been in charge, and our inability to bat big.
And now it looks like we've got the bowling selection and recruitment wrong too.
For some reason I thought today was day 4 so I thought Middlesex had an easy draw and was confused by benny’s comments yeah…
Can they take an extra half hour at Leicester? Should be enough time for RoJo to finish this off
Smith dropping one at third slip only for Foakes to mop up the rebound is symbolic
This just makes me wonder if Foakes is as good of a slip fielder as well as a keeper.
Surrey with one hand on the title then.
Louis Kimber wears TRJ pyjamas
Please fuck Browne off somewhere
Well we're fucked. Will have to win all of our remaining games and just hope
Pretty tankful so far for Warks choice of tactics in this innings. Always happy to see Ryan Patel get a score
Ryan Patel with his one good innings of the year
I enjoy our lots of runs policy but I'm not sure I like our no wickets policy
Whilst I understand the frustration, surely you can see the positive progress from the 'everyone being absolutely rubbish at everything ' policy you had in place last round?
I think we struggle to switch between formats, took us a while to settle into the Blast from the CC opening run and then switching back last week was naff but this week we're ace Certainly makes a change from two years of Benkyball
So annoying we're looking unlikely to put up 300
We're probably gonna lose but Bosch has been a decent signing so far
Pretty funny innings from Clark, starts by leaving a ball for four which is paradoxically given leg byes. Ends with two consecutive concussion checks and helmet replacements, opting to use bat on the third bouncer to his own demise
I don't think we're going to win...
The Peter Handscomb derby
This isnt very cash money of you Surrey
Guarantee we'll be 50-5 or something daft
Lyons such a cunt, won't let an old man take an 8fer, won't not leave the mother of his child.

Big fan of Kashif Ali hitting twin 50s Durham have been so much worse than I expected. Form with bat and ball has almost completely 180'd from last year
Okay this is giving me massive f/o vibes from the NZ test.
We're still -193/0 at the moment, maybe wait until Haz gets his double before worrying.
Just had a look at Kimber's stats for the game, delighted to see he got 38 in 21 balls, three fours and four sixes - not just us then, he'll have a tonk at anyone Honestly if he develops into a power-hitting lower-order batter, he might go further than imagined
Too many words to say he’s just pure Bazball.
Lancs bowling again is pure vibes, high on their own supply. Pitch has stopped behaving, they’re handing control over to Notts to plod on. Could have finished today 400 to the good with a day to bowl em out.
Check the weather forecast for Southport tomorrow
Yeah, better to be bowling in the on-off weather than batting.
Oh, I have a different interpretation. I don't think there's enough time left in the game to win it, without enforcing the follow-on
The plan is simple, quick runs so we have time to bowl them out. Anyway, Sam Hain has just got off the mark from his 23rd delivery
Did it ever come out why he wasn't in the team earlier in the season?
Personal reasons was the only reason given iirc
I haven't seen anything
Ta, tbh its a tad rude of me to expect anything to have come out to be fair.
Why did Worcs bother taking Virdi for one game and then not bowl him
At this point we really have to admire his commitment to not bowling. He might be the greatest non-bowler ever. I can't remember the last time someone was as good at not bowling as him.
I feel George Garton's been not bowling for about 5 years. And I seem to remember Reece Topley having a massive hiatus from bowling which seemed to go on for about 10 years.
He fancied an all expenses paid trip to see the peregrines
Gareth Batty Masterplan.

I said yesterday that ~220 was the upper limit for this chase so I guess I'll just have to hope that a combination of weather, good batting, and Surrey going for the batting points allows us to drag out a draw
Worrall having a bowl, might see an aggressive declaration
No bonus points in 2nd innings
That is a very fair point. I guess I'll just have to hope Rory Burns has as much of a grasp on the rules as I do
Jimmy 17fer in a single day will be an amazing record
Our bowlers have done well but we're not chasing anything on this pitch
Of course Lyon doesn’t fumble now
Really feel for the 3 blokes that are up against Jimmy for the championship performance of the week on the CC social media.
I assume Lancs will enforce the follow on, with how the forecast for Southport looks tomorrow
Lyon getting a run out when a team is 9 down in England. Silly timeline
Hey yall i think this Jimmy Anderson guy might be kinda good
Nathan Lyon with a characteristically great pick up of the ball
Lyon bowling when Jimmy only needs one more for a career best and Notts are 9 down. Not very bazball Keaton, not very cool either.
Great catch from Vince that. Pretty clutch wicket to enforce the follow on too haha
Has robinson just been dropped for being a shit bloke?
According to people online it's either that, the golf influencer relationship, too many pizzas, being annoying, not training enough, general attitude towards training, being too focussed on doing podcasts, or a combo of all these. His test stats are amazing though.
Who cares about your last sentence mate? Get with the program.
I think you can get away with that at County level, but not in Tests
This rain might unironically save our free range, non GMO, no added salt, Essex artisanal bacon (Yours from the Chelmsford food market for £8 a rasher)
Question. What if he overbowls himself and picks up a tiny side strain or similar and has to sit out ONE (1) test. He’s only picked for Lords. Is that him done or the farewell is moved to the second test?
Blob Key would need to consider how he'd like to be remembered
How's woakes looked since coming back for warks? His wickets column is looking rather empty
He's been alright. Only his first spell against Hampshire last week I thought he was rusty but since then he's bowled reasonably well without success
Just checking in. Wow, Melie's Man has done well vs Durham. 4/36 & 4/52, well done!
Retiring this greatness just for a slim chance at winning down under fucking hell
[удалено]
He didn’t hit a boundary?

0* 2 for me?
Why is Jimmy wasting his time playing County and First Class cricket? With skills like these he could be tearing up the Lanka Premier League right now
Jimmy getting one of his replacements Pennington The future is now ~~old~~ young man
"Why didn't you reverse sweep it like I would have done, nevermind - I'll teach you at Lord's next week" Jimmy to Dillon
Lyon must be laughing that this guy is retiring.
AND YOU FORCE THIS GUY TO RETIRE?
Shit blokes CC in massive danger now
One for for Jimmy for his best ever figures in FC
OH JIMMY JIMMY
That's classic Tom Bailey, or as he's fondly known as on these threads, Baildog
Still a disgusting nickname to give yourself. Or to have in general.
Classic Baildog
Tom Bailey hates Jimmy Anderson. Pass it on.
Jimmy's gonna get 10 in a day isn't he
Fuck off bailey
50 up for Jamie Smith He is very good imo
Booooooo@ Tom Bailey
Fun fact: Leus Du Plooy has played 22 more FC games then Max Holden In those games he's scored 3000 more FC runs
Jimmy good
Snaterrrr
If Jimmy keeps playing for Lancashire then something tells me there will be a lot of County batsmen out there wanting Key's blood. "I already only average 31 in County, leave me alone FFS."
Starmer’s first order of business: Fire Key
Preferably out of a cannon
Into the sun
[btw Jimmy is only 41 and 338 days](https://i.redd.it/bg0ar2w9bn741.jpg) not 42
Sorry, off to hang myself with a dog leash rn
Keysey has plenty of spares in his garage

T20 mercenary arc when
The ground is bone dry at the Oval yet we’ve had barely any play. At no stage has it been raining heavily enough to stop play imo but what do I know. Since when has it been policy to go off after feeling a raindrop? Somehow it must be Surrey’s fault
I'm going to the T20 match on Friday, my first cricket match in person, I certainly hope it's not rained out but the forecast isn't great
Totally agree, I’ve seen whole days played with these conditions
Their covers probably have sponsors and need some exposure
They’re actually blank, the most interesting thing to look at is the rope buggy going round the boundary. Feel like an F1 fan
Surely given the state of the game, rain is good for you?
Travelled three hours to watch cricket not ground staff, and don’t call me Shirley
I certainly hope I didn't travel 20 hours to see Friday's T20 get rained out (though the travel wasn't exclusively or primarily for that)
Obviously it's all a trick to make you buy more £8 pints at the bar
I still think that Balderson is a rude nickname for Jimmy and get confused when I see them both on the same scorecard
Whereas I grew up near Newark, so get confused every time I see Balderton not being in Notts.
Is this the leanest/thinnest we have seen of Stokesy?

My brain doesn't know how to process Lyon in a Lancashire shirt chatting nicely with Jimmy. He's the enemy.
Some proper /r/agedlikemilk stuff when you see Jimmy still being the best and being essentially forced to retire
Obligatory shout-out to William Williams parents for having little imagination when naming him.
I like to think the birth registrar's keyboard broke after entering the surname and the parents couldn't be bothered coming back another day.
Massive fuckin lol at Jimmy's figures. This guy is so washed
Some comedy gold for McAndrews second wicket of the spell. https://x.com/SussexCCC/status/1808104721086824953
Felt bad for Weatherall but it was very funny
Went down yesterday. Got to meet Jimmy very briefly at least.
What is happening with Derbs? Obviously it’s not a minefield, so I really expected more from them second innings.
I remember when Stokes retired from ODIs...for the first time
Siri, in UK law can my employer force me to retire?
Boomer man gives a massive drubbing to the Zoomers. More at 8.
Gorgeous delivery from Stokes to get Jones. https://x.com/DurhamCricket/status/1808106000815140884

Rather dramatic way to get to 100. Anyway get in there Abbas
Would love some wickets
I’d just prefer some play to be honest at this rate
With the current match situation I'd take a draw
Also, great to see Leaning back and scoring (unlike the rest of our batting line up).
Jimmy streak over? Clearly washed.
On a serious note our Jimmy is 100% getting a knighthood in the next honours list isn't he?
Sunak will announce it tomorrow in a last ditch effort
How would he know who he is, he doesn't have Sky
Knighthood for services to presenting The Hundred on BBC
Northants' number 11 is either hanging like a dog or he's got a stomach bug, he's walking out like Lyon at Lord's
Can't believe we're forcing this guy to retire. Yeah he's not going to play in the Ashes but so long as he's good enough to take wickets until then who gives a shit.
Bold of you to assume he won’t be good enough for next ashes
Key must go and take his ageist nonsense with him.
7/19 is currently Jimmy's FC best btw
That included a Creepy Duck (that's not Donald in ghost form) https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/county-championship-2021-1244186/lancashire-vs-kent-group-3-1244288/full-scorecard
It would be more unusual if there wasn't a creepy duck in the CC
10 overs, 7-19 in 2021 10 overs, 6-19 in 2024 Clearly past it and should retire
Age is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act of 2010. Just saying…
How’s Stokes feeling about this county player Jimmy? Definitely worth a look in, I reckon.
Come on Jim!! Who was the last bowler to get a 10-fer in county? All I can think of is Otis Gibson years ago.
I know you all love Jimmy but you have to face facts, he just can't go at 43 an over like the young guys.
Williams knows if he takes a wicket to rob Jimmy of his 10fer he’s getting deported to slough
This Anderson spell really makes me wonder how someone like Cummins or Hazlewood would go in county cricket.
When's the last time we had an active Aussie quick in CC?
Siddle maybe?
Neser and Boland I think.
Ah forgot about Boland
Neser has been in squads, right?
Aye
Scenes when the net bowler for England will be the best bowler the fans can see this summer
Lads this kind of deference to the old is not what Shit Blokes CCC should stand for. Though this level of batting is very par for the course...
Rob Keys gonna have Jimmy's legs broken at lunch at this rate.
6 wickets in 6 consecutive overs Jimmy? 6? That's insane.
Jesus Jimmy
Make that six

Beneficial Microscope doing Microscope things once again. England call up when? (Yes I know this will be confusing to new readers).

🙏
This Jimmy Anderson lad looks decent, think he could do a good job
This is getting silly now
At what stage do we have to say the selectors have made a mistake and right their wrongs?
I said it at the time.
I think it is partially because I’ve not fully accepted he’s going yet, but surely we have to accept he is still our best bowler
In England it's not even close. Still don't know why we can't at least give him the whole series and then go from there.
