I ordered a camp toilet from Amazon and keep bags for it in the car. Haven't had to use it but it is a bit nicer than just a bucket.

I feel your pain. This got me thinking, there should be something on the side bar with what we should have in an emergency backpack, incase things happen. Camp toilet, toilet paper, spare clothes, baby wipes, and others I can’t think of currently. The emergency Crohns backpack.

Add a Towel and like 3-4 garbage bags. You can stash dirty clothes in there for the ride home, line your seats if you need to sit on them etc. Towel also helps if you need a makeshift barrier to have a modicum of privacy if you need to use your car doors a a changing stall/bathroom. Also include socks in your change of clothes.

If you have the money, Instraprivy is an excellent all round solution. I always have it in my car and it’s easy to carry around e.g. for day hikes in nature.

I've always kept an ice cream bucket (with lid) in the trunk of our vehicles. Inside of it, I have a roll of toilet paper, several plastic grocery bags, and a package of wet wipes. Back when my kids were little, I also had a foldable/portable small toilet seat that could fit on top of the bucket for them. Now that my kids are in their 20s, I made each of them an emergency bucket (something my dad did for me when I first started driving) - keep in mind, we're in Minnesota and this is mostly for driving outside of the metro are in the winter/snow. I filled the ice-cream pail with the bags, tissue, wipes, but also 6-in-1 screwdriver, headlamp, rain poncho, bungee cords, ratchet strap, red bandanna, carabiner, paracord, duct tape, candle & matches, mylar emergency blanket, and a deck of playing cards. For those embarrassed to have a portable toilet in your vehicle, you could disguise it as your emergency bucket 😁

[Pop-up privacy tent](https://a.co/d/cBeEPlI). They also sell them in conjunction with a portable toilet. They go up in a flash.

If you have a 4-door car, you can place the bucket between two open doors for 3-way privacy. (I grew up in a rural area.)

What the hell I've had Crohn's for 7 years and I never thought to do this. Having a car bucket would have saved me a lot of discomfort and embarrassment. Ngl I think I'm going to pick one up this afternoon, thank you for the idea!

SailingSpark

I have a camp toilet and I use a small popup tent used for showering while camping.

They sell disposable bags for camp toilets. The bags have absorbent material in them and a two layer bag system. I’ve used them camping many times and not have trouble. I’ve bought these exact ones before: https://a.co/d/8QIBVOj As for logistics, using these bags, I would think you could use a shorter bucket and honestly just sit on it on a seat. If you are of the dress wearing variety, you could use a long flowy dress to cover the whole system while using it. Or a long coat. Or big baggy sweat shirt. Not sure where to find a shorter bucket, but I think I would buy something like this and then cut it to a third the height. https://a.co/d/hZ6TJs6 Ngl, I spend way too much time thinking about this

Traveling at night through Oklahoma and Kansas on long stretches on highways was my best friend 🤣 could see people coming for miles and it was pretty deserted. I popped a few squats in the grass on the side of the road multiple times. Opening the car doors can offer some privacy too. But in broad daylight?? Idk good luck with that. Maybe a curtain you can hang from the doors. Or a pop up change tent.

Refraining from eating within 3 hours of having to travel works best for me, I would possibly suggest a larger van/SUV where you can remove seats in back to have ultimate privacy.
