I work for Ronald McDonald House Charities in South Carolina and we get a ridiculous amount of cookies donated from our local Crumbl twice every week. They end up being utilized in our Family Room program at our children’s hospital.
I can’t say that every store does this, but we’re super thankful that we are able to benefit from all of the extra cookies each week.
You wouldn’t believe how excited some of the families are when they realize we have Crumbl cookies in the house. So many people have always wanted to try them but can’t necessarily afford the cost, so it always makes me smile when we are able to provide these treats.
What’s cool is that a lot of times we’ll get flavors that aren’t on that week’s menu. I’m not sure if it’s because of custom catering orders or something, but it’s always a surprise to see what we get each week. I was a Crumbl fan before I started working T RMHC, so I can usually figure out the “mystery” cookies, but sometimes we genuinely don’t know what we have 😂
that is wild. i just saw a video about getting free chicfila breakfast at 1030 am. doubt its true but the way social media works is just completely crazy to me.
Some dumbass man decided to show a ‘hack’ that if you go to crumbl locations right at closing and ask for free cookies, we’ll give them to you.
We don’t hand out the cookies we don’t sell. He’s just making life harder for the employees basically
I used to work at ulta and similarly there were videos going around of people dumpster diving for product and someone called to ask if they can do that and my manager got pissed and told them no lol. Even though as long as the trash isn’t on public property it is legal to do.
OMG i worked at Ulta during the peak of Tarte Shape Tape (2015-2017) and we used to do our damages on Thursday nights and it became a safety issue for the employees cos when we would go throw out damages and there'd be lines of ppl waiting by the dumpster! We had to randomize the damages and even then there'd be people at the dumpster, just not by the dozens. My store was a pretty big store at an outdoor shopping mall and only sometimes did we have a security guard on duty
This makes my heart happy that leftovers go to hospitals and shelters! In the future maybe try to include DV shelters and women’s and children’s shelters ❤️❤️
The goal is for each store to bake exactly what they need and have zero leftovers ever day. Crumbl is far from a charitable org. Not to be a downer but I highly doubt op or their staff is running a leftover 6 pack to a hospital. More than likely they just throw it out and op is just saying that to get people to stop calling
Obviously the goal is less food waste.
Are you okay though? Let people find joy in things- I think this is cool where they send them if they send them anywhere.
It's negative to think a company like crumbl that pays employees $8/hr is donating to hospitals and homeless shelters. Their policies put people in there
I work at a homeless shelter, and I can assure you that we have had leftover cookies delivered by Crumbl employees on their way home. It doesn't happen super often, not sure if it is because they don't often have extras or if they are spreading the wealth around our city, but it is a happy day for our guests when they do!
Well I've been in the food business and I can tell you donating food is not even that simple. A lot of retail stores especially large ones straight up refuse to do it due to food safety, liability, etc. It gets thrown out in the large majority of cases.
I’ve also been in the food business for awhile lol and sure you’re right, some places don’t do it, but honestly once a company gets it set up it’s not that big a deal and it’s a great PR move so a lot of places do it.
I work for a large national grocery chain and we donate to Feeding America which is a network of local food banks. For safety purposes we can ply donate damaged stuff from the store. If anyone returns an edible item that has to go in the trash because we have no idea what was done with it after it left the store. Like a can of corn might look fine but for all we know that person froze it and then took it on a trip around the equator wrapped in black plastic and then froze it again. Or the box of unopened crackers may have been in a house with bedbugs, etc. Perishable items like bread/pastry and meat gets frozen on its sell by date to ensure it’s safe.
Hi! I work for Ronald McDonald House Charities in South Carolina and we get a ridiculous amount of cookies donated from our local Crumbl twice every week. They end up being packed by our volunteers and utilized in our Family Room program at our children’s hospital.
I can’t say that EVERY Crumbl does this, but we are super thankful that we’re able to make use of the extra cookies from our Columbia store.
When i regularly volunteered at a food bank, Panera would always donate tons of their left over stuff and it was good stuff too. It really made a lot of people happy and the kids absolutely loved it. I don’t really eat at Panera but I always thought it was really amazing that they did that. It’s not just not throwing it away, they wrapped it and made it really nice for people.
Yeah I volunteer at a food bank sometimes that gets a lot of this type of stuff, too. I know we all hate corpos and whatever but they do actually donate a lot of food sometimes lol.
For sure, and when there’s something like that being done on a consistent basis it really does make an impact. Some families would have to wait a really long time and the kids getting a cookie and some fun new things to try really does alleviate the pain a bit. Not only that but each family would get a decent amount of relatively freshly baked bread for the week. Like it was a *lot* of food and ALL of it was taken and used.
We can hate on these companies all we want but a big corporation donating their things to people who need it will always be better than a company that throws it away.
I worked at a school for children who were brand new immigrants to the US, along with their families. Most came with almost nothing, like we had a clothing closet for any who needed clothes, shoes, and their families too. Panera would regularly send in those cardboard trash can boxes full of bread and rolls wrapped in plastic. We'd get like two every two weeks for awhile.
I used to work at a daycare for low income families that would receive a couple tubs of Panera breads and treats at least once a week. We would have to wrap some of the things but it was nice to be able to offer bread to our families and staff. They didn’t pay much so there were times I lived off that bread.
Depends on the store!! We have food trucks for homeless a local group, or Ronald mc Donald house or whatever! Depends on the store and if we can squeeze em in
I really hope this is true but when I started working at food place similar to Panera, they had a whole section in the training/rulebook about how all the extra bread and baked goods and stuff was donated every night. I got the job and the first or second night there I asked about and said I wouldn’t mind helping to take all the leftovers cuz I thought that was really cool that they they did and all of the employees basically laughed at me and said nothing gets donated, sometime they let the employees take extras home but everything else was just thrown away bc it was just easier. I mean completely fresh full loaves of bread, pastries, desserts, etc… I couldn’t believe they completely lied on the training book so I said I would start taking all the leftovers to a charity by my house that I knew needed these things so bad and I did it every night after work and some of the other employees acted like I had something wrong with me that I actually wanted to do this even though I wasn’t getting paid. I just couldn’t believe not only did they make it seem like it was a store or a corporate decision to donate( it was in the training book) but none of the other workers had any problem just throwing away perfectly new food. Yes I know there are laws about certain types of food and how long you can donate it but they already established that they had supposedly been doing this for awhile so I figured that wasn’t an issue.
The number of homeless individuals you're going to send to an early grave with those 1000 calorie, saturated fat, and added sugar laden cookies...
BTW, you guys have an actual written agreement with an organization to donate the leftovers, right? That relieves the company of liability?
do u work closely with the unhoused population? bc this is a weird ass take. my hospitality center has a relationship with sheetz for left over food.
the biggest health concerns are sexual assaults, exposure to the elements, and infection. not high cholesterol….
Didn't realize semantics regarding the homeless makes u incapable of holding any argument. Weird hill to die on over words LMAOOO. Sometimes they even call themselves street people!! Isn't that crazy Jackie
I take part in grassroots meal cooking for our community! Maybe instead of spouting some bs about calories you take part in cooking healthy meals for those facing poverty in ur area, since you clearly care about their health and wellbeing
Eta: using unhoused when I typically say homeless knowing you'd be too sensitive about it. Interesting.
Why are you paying $4 for cookies? Why aren't you donating that money directly to homeless causes? They are literally people starving on the streets and you are buying extravagant cookies. Can you defend that, too? Please, by all means, apply your self-righousness smugness to that scenario as well.
I don't buy crumbl but I do work at a bakery and give cupcakes and brownies out regularly. I have actually never had crumbl lol (I like looking at the weekly flavors). But you were being condescending about helping people out, that's very different than not giving my every cent to the homeless. Anyways, volunteer your time! Its free! And you can still buy $4 cookie afterwards! Please apply your moral righteousness to all cookie eaters Jackie. You sound like a health nut anyway
This feels like it needs to gain traction as the new Karen or "Sure, Jan" meme...
"DAMN Jackie, you take the cake!"
"Ohhh Jackie" ...*exasperated sigh* (smacks forehead) 🤦♀️
*"Jackie wondered why nobody ever invited her to parties"* underneath Far Side-style comic of cow angrily ranting about her milk being used to make desserts and people buying them with food stamps
then why not rent the cheapest studio apartment possible, buy a bag of rice and cans of beans, and donate all your money to charity? you call others self righteous while criticizing people for indulging in what makes them happy. do you even volunteer anywhere? or do you just put down others in an attempt to feel superior yourself?
lets say a child dies of hunger every time you leave a dumb comment. why do you own a phone and have a phone plan and wifi if you could have donated all those costs to homeless causes?
I cannot for the life of me understand the constant complaints about how unhealthy Crumbl is.
IT’S COOKIES. People don’t seek out cookies as a healthy snack.
i think they can decide for themselves if they want a sweet treat after their meal… and i don’t know how u would be liable for giving away old cookies like who would sue us over it
Yikes.
The company is completely liable for any food they produce and give away (in most states). Lawsuits have been filed - yes, some by "homeless" individuals - because someone got supposedly sick from donated food. Each store should have an agreement with the shelter or organization they donate to that relieves the store of any liability. This is pretty basic stuff.
I'm not here to provide you with sources. I guarantee the company has a polict that covers this that you either didn't know about or are ignoring. Will you ask them for a source for the policy?
Whenever people mention the liability behind donating food or say that their restaurant or company can’t I’m so confused. Doesn’t the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act relieve them of liability????
Unfortunately, lawyers have found loopholes in the law because of the "qualifying food" clause. This clause basically says you can't donate spoiled food - it's intentionally malicious. The loophole arises because the question is posed as to why a company is throwing away food that ISN'T bad, yet will donate it. Most corporations add an additional layer of protection by establishing a liability agreement with the shelter, church, or organization they donate to.
i should ask honestly but i think my owner reached out to organizations and asked if they want them, and we have a calendar of who is getting cookies what day. sometimes employees can take them home if they will give them to schools or hospitals themselves. we all have a lot of trust in each other so nobody is gonna lie and say they won’t since we are all sick of the cookies lol
Our stores donate to a specific company in the DMV that coordinates the donations to shelters for us. Their name is NEST4US if you're interested https://www.nest4us.org/. My owner set that all up with them and we donate twice a week and have for almost 3 years. Yes sometimes there are more than others.
My owner requires a tax exemption donation id or something like that, but we also donate to local schools who have taken the time to do the actual donation paperwork instead of just requesting free cookie cards and fresh boxed up cookies.
There is a few Crumbl competitors that use Too good too go here in the Phoenix area. I use all the time because I just can't afford to spend this much on cookies. It's a win win in my opinion and it's good advertisements. If I need to buy cookies for someone I am going to go there not Crumbl.
When my situation was a bit rough two years ago I made use of the local food bank. One of the corporate contributers was the local Harry and David's distribution center. Boxes of amazing fruit, holiday gift towers of fancy snacks, bags and bags of the Moose Munch popcorn - crap nobody there could ever afford.
We also do this at our store, please stop calling our phone it has been ringing non stop since we opened and we do not have enough staff on a busy day like this to answer
Yesss we turned off the ringer on the phone. We actually throw away whatever the staff doesn’t take but we are not allowed to give free cookies. Any stores that’s do are going to stop real quick once corporate hears about it with the way it’s blown up on tik tok. I’m just waiting for a message in the crew app 😂😂
It's actually suggested by corporate that leftover cookies are donated to a charity of the owners choice. If your store is throwing them away, its your store doing it wrong or your owners policy. But giving freebie cookies to rando tiktok-ers... yeah thats just weird.
Yes we’re allowed to donate or throw away. Our owners also allow staff to take some. We’re not supposed to give free cookies to customers or use any of those apps that sell at a discount at night.
Can confirm. A family member works at a homeless shelter and they have been receiving crumbl donations for their clients for at least a couple years now.
With grocery stores it's more difficult. With Cookies you can donate them. If it's a perishable item then people can get sick and it's a liability issue that companies don't want deal with.
I do believe that more people would appreciate any help they get but it will be one person who will use it to get money and companies don't want that.
It's always tiktok. What are the callers saying? Because even before tiktok I admit I ask if "You have any leftovers from last week". I did not know that made the workers angry 😟
asking if we have left overs from last week is never a problem on a monday or tuesday. people are calling stores saying they heard a rumor we give out cookies for free at the end of the night cause they believe everything they see on tiktok lmao. stores have been getting flooded with calls because of it that’s really the only reason it’s annoying.
TikTok ruins everything. If your shirt was not doesn’t appropriate they use to just give you a voucher to get a new one. TikTok went crazy with it and people would wear things inappropriate on purpose trying to get free vouchers. Disney no longer offers this.
Oh yeah I work at a hospital in Crumbl capital (utah) and every saturday night crumbl staff would deliver 10 boxes to each floor just for the nursing and staff :)
TikTokers ruin a LOT. Ever wonder why Bath and Body Works has a completely new return policy that is much stricter? Cause a TikTok girl posted that you could completely burn your candles or use your body care fully and return it saying you didn’t like it for a complete refund or a brand new item. Our phones were ringing like crazy when that video went viral🫠. They see one store do something “nice” and have to post about it. I feel for you on the nonstop ringing phone. I would love to be able to turn the phones off sometimes
TikTokers just love to ruin every little good thing they discover and it's mad irritating. I really don't understand as to why people feel inclined to share every little thing on TikTok. Especially when the same thing happens every time. Prices raise, employees are having a harder time at work, rules become more strict, it's always the same cycle. You would think people would know by now to stop posting these "hacks" because it ruins things for literally everyone. Just enjoy the little thing you got and go about your day. Cause once your "hack" becomes popular and it's not a good one for the company, now you can't get nothing because you wanted to open up your mouth.
Yes!!! They post secret beach places or mountains and I’m like noooo don’t tell. Same with the little perks we get off the menu or whatnot. If everyone knows they will stop doing it.
I work in an Emergency Department and we randomly got a butt load of crumble cookies last week in the middle of the night and no one knew why; now it makes sense.
YES THANK YOU it’s been actually exhausting having people come in so close to closing and ask that question. We’ve run out of patience for these people and when they ask us, it just ends up ticking us off. You’ll just embarrass yourself if you ask 😭
Ronald McDonald House is my favorite charity, it makes me happy to know the families there are getting a nice and well deserved treat
You wouldn’t believe how excited some of the families are when they realize we have Crumbl cookies in the house. THANK YOU god after the 6th call tonight, I told my coworker to say no and hang up. Leave it to tik tok and some random guy to ruin it for everyone
I don’t use TikTok. What happened?
Some dumbass man decided to show a ‘hack’ that if you go to crumbl locations right at closing and ask for free cookies, we’ll give them to you. We don’t hand out the cookies we don’t sell. He’s just making life harder for the employees basically
Thank you for explaining.
Leave it to the internet to make things more difficult.
Lies i work at Crumbl and we throw left overs out stop the lies
My store throws them all away
I used to work at ulta and similarly there were videos going around of people dumpster diving for product and someone called to ask if they can do that and my manager got pissed and told them no lol. Even though as long as the trash isn’t on public property it is legal to do.
What’s the point of your manager getting mad? People just love to feel indignant.
Once it’s in a trash can it’s public property, legally speaking, in a lot of states
Not if the trash can is located on private property
This makes my heart happy that leftovers go to hospitals and shelters! In the future maybe try to include DV shelters and women’s and children’s shelters ❤️❤️

I'm ok just being honest based on my experiences. Hopefully they do give them to the poor
I hope your day gets better! :)
My day is just getting started and I'm headed to the beach
Wonderful! Hope that positivity spreads to your internet presence :)
You are so sensitive. Like a little cute baby
There’s just no need for your negativity ❤️
It's negative to think a company like crumbl that pays employees $8/hr is donating to hospitals and homeless shelters. Their policies put people in there
But have a wonderful day❤️
Hope your day gets better too
Fwiw.. I don't see how you were trying to take joy from anyone. Seemed like you were just staying the probable reality.
I work at a homeless shelter, and I can assure you that we have had leftover cookies delivered by Crumbl employees on their way home. It doesn't happen super often, not sure if it is because they don't often have extras or if they are spreading the wealth around our city, but it is a happy day for our guests when they do!
No, we have a donation bin that the cookies go in and then someone picks the bin up next day.
Nice that is great to hear.
I agree about the corporation thing but also think they probably do donate leftovers. A lot of corporations do that, it’s not at all unheard of.
Well I've been in the food business and I can tell you donating food is not even that simple. A lot of retail stores especially large ones straight up refuse to do it due to food safety, liability, etc. It gets thrown out in the large majority of cases.

It’s most likely up to the franchise owner so it’s probably not the same for all stores.

100%. Tons of reasons to think Crumbl has bad business practices but this is a goofy hill for some people to die on.
I worked at a school for children who were brand new immigrants to the US, along with their families. Most came with almost nothing, like we had a clothing closet for any who needed clothes, shoes, and their families too. Why does nobody ever include men's shelters? Do men not deserve help, too?
Male only shelters are not very common.
Ok? That means they aren't worth mentioning?
> leftovers go to hospitals and shelters! Shelters = where unhoused men go for help.

Wow! You're right. Hey, I appreciate that. You've changed my whole outlook on life. You sure are smart. Again, thanks so much.
yeah no problem, i can send you my cash app or venmo if you want to tip me for changing your life. infact i insist, lmk
lets say a child dies of hunger every time you leave a dumb comment. why do you own a phone and have a phone plan and wifi if you could have donated all those costs to homeless causes?
Homeless people deserve treats too
god forbid someone who is struggling to survive in a totally shit economy that has set them up to fail has any joy during their day
I’m a member of a gardener group and we take all left over fruits, veggies, and herbs to local shelters.
I’m pretty sure the homeless individuals have far greater battles to pick than that of an unhealthy dessert….You must absolutely kill at parties.
I cannot for the life of me understand the constant complaints about how unhealthy Crumbl is. IT’S COOKIES. People don’t seek out cookies as a healthy snack.

Better than a fentanyl overdose imo
How do you coordinate the dropoff? Sounds like something g that's far from universal

More stores should use the too good to go app. It’s a win win for both the customer and the store!
There is a few Crumbl competitors that use Too good too go here in the Phoenix area. I use all the time because I just can't afford to spend this much on cookies. It's a win win in my opinion and it's good advertisements. If I need to buy cookies for someone I am going to go there not Crumbl.
What was the tik tok that started this?
I’m curious, too.
Same

What’s the tik tok story?

I just realized it looks like he took it down. Sorry 😔 it was freaking rage bate levels annoying though
It’s ok! I’m not on tik tok thats why I asked. No worries
I work in the same shopping center as a Crumbl. They periodically bring leftovers over and we’re super grateful. But we NEVER ask. That’s just tacky.
I GOT LIKE 25 CALLS DURING MY SHIFT
I wish Publix would do that. They throw out soooo much food. What a waste. And employees can’t buy it either.
They do give frozen leftovers to local food banks.
With grocery stores it's more difficult. With Cookies you can donate them. If it's a perishable item then people can get sick and it's a liability issue that companies don't want deal with. I do believe that more people would appreciate any help they get but it will be one person who will use it to get money and companies don't want that.
Now I’m scared to go back to work and deal with these calls 😭
It's always tiktok. What are the callers saying? Because even before tiktok I admit I ask if "You have any leftovers from last week". I did not know that made the workers angry 😟
asking if we have left overs from last week is never a problem on a monday or tuesday. people are calling stores saying they heard a rumor we give out cookies for free at the end of the night cause they believe everything they see on tiktok lmao. stores have been getting flooded with calls because of it that’s really the only reason it’s annoying.
Cool beans
DUDE THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME 8 calls just todau
TikTok ruins everything. If your shirt was not doesn’t appropriate they use to just give you a voucher to get a new one. TikTok went crazy with it and people would wear things inappropriate on purpose trying to get free vouchers. Disney no longer offers this.
Oh yeah I work at a hospital in Crumbl capital (utah) and every saturday night crumbl staff would deliver 10 boxes to each floor just for the nursing and staff :)
My store we take left overs and also do donations
TikTokers ruin a LOT. Ever wonder why Bath and Body Works has a completely new return policy that is much stricter? Cause a TikTok girl posted that you could completely burn your candles or use your body care fully and return it saying you didn’t like it for a complete refund or a brand new item. Our phones were ringing like crazy when that video went viral🫠. They see one store do something “nice” and have to post about it. I feel for you on the nonstop ringing phone. I would love to be able to turn the phones off sometimes
Oh not to mention a lot of those hacks boil down to stealing
Well I guess that explains the random Crumbl boxes in my break room sometimes when I come into work at my hospital lol thank you
Literally had the same thing happen last week at my ER, we were all confused but at them anyways
Saw a similar post about Popeyes. Seems like it’s better for it to go to homeless and to hospitals anyway. I’m glad it’s not thrown away.
